Just did this class as an isolation workout/technique recovery after yeeeears of not doing ballet and I absolutely LOVED it!!! Thank you so much for the wonderful video :)
Thank you so much, your teaching is clear & easy to understand, & the music is fabulous! I’m a adult beginner & live in Hong Kong, it is rising up Covid 19 cases so we need to stay home. Ballet school closed too......very sad.... thanks again your video, I enjoy sooooo much!!!!
Thank you Erika! The music is by David Plumpton... He has 30 albums of ballet and tap music available at www.pdedancesupplies.com/collections/david-plumpton-music-for-ballet-class-cds I hope you’re enjoying dancing along at home and hopefully we’ll all be able to get back to the ballet studio soon! am very much a middle aged beginner, enjoying this class so much!! have yet to finish the whole vid though! this time next century, i might be as elegant as you :-) thanks for posting this xx
You’re welcome! Thank you for trying my barre Lucinda, it’s great to hear that you’re enjoying it! Have you seen my playlist for beginner ballet? You can watch it here : ua-cam.com/play/PL2uKu8q5cK1rJp3eoVudwN3tWVtzgy6Ol.html
Under this lockdown for Covid 19, this exercise really refreshes me everyday, even in the condominium, this is very elegant and quiet for moving. Thank you !!
Thank you Suzuki! It’s wonderful to hear that my follow along barre is helping you to stay active. Wishing you good health and happiness at this difficult time. -Kimberley
Thanks for making this video Kimberley! I’m going to be 54 soon and still want ballet in my life, so I’m taking a once a week adult class. But as the nature of most adult classes in my area is “mostly recreational”, I really need good videos (and online teachers!) to practice with so that when I’m in class I can practice / remember good technique and hold myself to a high standard. I like the pace of your teaching, you have a lovely voice and presence. :). Aside from looking to gain strength & improve technique, I also hope to improve my ability to remember longer combinations. Your videos are so helpful, and fun! I like the music too. :). Thanks again - I look forward to more with you!
You're welcome Janine, I hope you enjoy my videos! You might also like my playlist of adult beginner ballet videos at: ua-cam.com/play/PL2uKu8q5cK1rJp3eoVudwN3tWVtzgy6Ol.html
My legs hurt so bad. This is definitely the real deal. Hahaha. I'm looking forward to practicing this everyday and mastering it! For now. SO PAINFUUUUUL!! MY LEEEGS!!
I take official ballet classes now. Along with practicing Intermediate/Advanced ballet videos. Skipped back to the part of this video I used to struggle with most and couldn't stop laughing. I cannot BELIEVE I used to struggle with this! Hahaha! Didn't realize how much improvement had come. But I seriously am grateful to these videos. Was the perfect start!
In this video it is perfectly understandable, as the combo's are longish and it is beginner level. However - I find it more productive when the combinations are not called out all the way through, because I get better practice at remembering combinations, and getting myself back on track if lost. I have even had teachers who bark out the whole combination so loud it feels like a hammer! Have gone home with headache from trying to interpret the music artistically, lol! Online barres are a dream when the talking is all done when the exercise is initially described, and not after the music starts. So pleasant! Love!
I am 70 years old. I took four months of adult beginner ballet last year. This is a great way to keep up with the routines until I go again to classes this fall.
Thank youuuuu, sweet lady !!! This is exactly what I was looking for, with the mood I needed ! A dancer, this is the only thing I would have liked to be. My body and my soul, grateful !! Thanks for sewing hope in this lockdown times. I subscribe right now, from Buenos Aires. Be blessed in Jesus.
You’re welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed the video Rachel. The music is by David Plumpton, he has a lovely selection of CDs of ballet and tap music. You can browse all of his CDs at www.pdedancesupplies.com/collections/david-plumpton-music-for-ballet-class-cds
Thank you very much! There is also a centre and allegro video that follows on from this. If you have found it beneficial, there are 2 more full classes on the Ballet Class For Adults DVD here: www.pdedancesupplies.com/products/ballet-class-for-adults-beginner-level-3-dvd-disc-set
You are a beautiful dancer and fabulous teacher! Thank you for your detailed videos with exquisite technique! It has been helping me with my teaching of ballet barre in a 10-12 year lyrical ballet class. :)
You dance beautifully. I just started .. a Adult Introduction to beginner ballet . At the National Ballet of Canada 🇨🇦. I practice yoga a lot and love it but I was looking for a change . I have a bit of arthritis in my knee so I can’t bend all the way . I’m frustrated because our teacher moves to fast and I’m trying to focus .. it’s only my third class. I like the way you explain everything thank you . You break it down . And your not that fast which is helpful for absolute beginners . Thank you ..
Thank you! This is a great supplement to the beginning classes I'm taking. I'm often lost when it comes to port de bras and this is a great way for me to practice.
Wonderful workout. As an aging woman, I really appreciate the strength this imparts to my feet, and how it corrects my posture. Also, I have nearly the very same outfit. It is from Modli Calypsa? They market them as modest bathing suits but they are the perfect workout wear. :D
Hello Jill, thank you for checking out my channel. If you want to practise your grand battements, they’re included in this follow along barre: ua-cam.com/video/EpNGqLu6Nf8/v-deo.html
You’re welcome Celina, it’s great to hear that my videos are helping you to keep active and keep on dancing through the quarantine! Best wishes - Kimberley.
thank you so much for uploading this video. It certainly is one of the best I've seen and it is so helpful for beginners as well as for beginning intermeditas for training at home. You choice of music is perfect and you have a very pleasant voice to listen to when you explain. Thank you, looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
Thank you so much! I am so pleased that you are finding the video helpful. The music is David Plumpton - he has lots of ballet class for music CDs, which are wonderful! Kimberley
I really enjoy your video. Thank you very much.😍 I start practice ballet and really love that way you teach the movements slow and patienly. I would like a video that you can improve the 5th position or the turn outs, please. 😊
Thank you for your comment Elizabeth, it’s lovely to hear that you are enjoying my video 😊 I don’t have a video specifically for turn out and 5th position but you might like this beginner ballet video which includes some tips on the positions of the feet : ua-cam.com/video/KvsNZISrHv4/v-deo.html
Thank you so much! You are so graceful and easy to follow so that even if you're so beautiful I dont feel frustrated, instead, I just want to keep on practicing when I'm home! You will be part of my 2019 ❤
Such a good class, joining from Dubai. This was a great way to continue practicing during the lockdown. By the way did anyone tell you, you look like Winona Ryder :)
That is excellent! I always like doing a class first thing in the morning! Let me know how you get on and when you start to feel the improvement! Kimberley
I am feeling so much improvement already! My posture throughout the day is so much better, my shoulders more free, fingers more alive and I feel more bouncy. And also, I feel really inspired and considering to start taking ballet classes.
🌄🙋🏻♀️😊I Always Wanted to Learn Ballet But Never Had a Chance to Learn , Always Admired Ballet Dancer's Gracefulness. These are really professional classes and great for practicing at home. I was wondering if your 3 cd Course was available as iOS download as when working at home and switching sides I can move my iPad relatively quickly but cannot move my tv which is attached to my DVD player. Thank you so much for these and good luck with your career.
Hi Patricia, thank you so much for your kind words about the classes and I am so pleased that you are finding them useful. I am sorry but we only offer this on the 3 DVD disc set. I do have lots of downloadable videos that you should be able to download to your iPad. However the download videos are where I look at the technique of different steps from the ballet class in more detail rather than the follow along classes. You can view all of the DVDs here: www.pdedancesupplies.com/collections/tips-on-ballet-technique-dvds you can also browse the full selection of downloadable video at www.tipsonballettechnique.com Hope that helps - Kimberley
I found myself constantly getting confused with foot positions, as in right and left. Like, if the teacher used her left foot in front during fifth position, for some reason, I'd struggle to figure out if I was supposed to copy her or mirror it. What an odd issue of mine. Lol. Either way, amazing video! Thank you so much! This has given me such hope! Along with horrible leg pain. Lol. But totally worth it!! Especially since I know it'll be less the more I practice. ^w^ Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
I really liked this video for practicing at home between classes. however I find it a bit difficult to watch the video, hold on to 'the barre' which is in my case the wall and to the movements properly while keeping a good posture and not hitting my feet against the wall during the exercises facing the barre. The ones sideways on the barre are great though.
I am glad that you liked the video. You can always practice the 'facing' the barre exercises sideways to the barre if that makes it easier for you and then just repeat it again on the other side. Hope that helps! Kimberley
I have started to teach myself ballet I was wondering if you have any ideas on the best way on learning 5th position I find it very difficult any tips would be great thank you, - Zoe
Hello Zoe, thank you for checking out my Channel and I hope you’re enjoying getting started with ballet! My video of Beginner Ballet Tips takes you through all the basic positions of the feet, arms and more. You can watch the video at: ua-cam.com/video/KvsNZISrHv4/v-deo.html If you’re just getting started it would be safer (and easier) to begin with 3rd position of the feet, which is not as crossed as 5th position. Best wishes -Kimberley.
Hi Jen, the music used for each exercise is listed on the video at the start of the exercise. It's all music by David Plumpton, from his albums New Classics and New Classics 2. If you wish to purchase the music separately, you can browse all of David Plumpton's CDs at: www.pdedancesupplies.com/collections/david-plumpton-music-for-ballet-class-cds
Hi Tandra, thank you for your comment. If you want some tips on how to do a plié, I'd recommend taking a look at this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PL2uKu8q5cK1res24bBiIvSOh7EeO2NkEX.html
Hi, thank you for checking out my UA-cam channel. I’m not offering online classes. However I do have a number of follow along DVDS available at www.pdedancesupplies.com/collections/tips-on-ballet-technique-dvds and a large selection of downloadable ballet videos for you to watch on your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone at www.pdedancesupplies.com/collections/tips-on-ballet-technique-downloadable-videos
Would this also apply to teens as well? Because I want to try ballet but I have never done it before. I know that ballet helps with flexibility and strength, as well with posture too! Thanks for the video!
Yes Kaylee but just make sure that you are nice and warm before you start! You may find it beneficial if you are attending ballet lessons as well but let me know how you get on. Kimberley
Could you please do more of these barre ballet videos please? If you create an adult ballet beginner course and upload it on Skillshare, im willing to just purchase them.... thanks!
Hi Liz, thank you for your comment. If it helps you at all this video comes from my Ballet Class for Adults Beginner Level 3 DVD Disc Set. I think I'm actually improving at this. LOL! My legs barely hurt anymore! If you don't mind though, I would like to ask. What is the point of doing these Barre exercises and how do they help you progress in ballet? (The ballet class I went to irl did very similar exercises actually!) Do they improve foot and leg strength? Or do they help in another way? Just curious!
Great that you are beginning to feel the improvement! Practicing your ballet at the barre is a great way for you to practice repeating and refining your ballet technique. The majority of exercises that you practice at the barre can also be practiced in the centre. It is a good way to focus on practicing and improving certain steps and those skills can then be transferred into a ballet solo or perhaps repertoire for the stage. It will help to develop the strength in many parts of your body - not just your legs and feet and can help to increase your musicality and artistic understanding as well. Kimberley
I see! That's wonderful! I would also like to ask, once I have fully mastered this video, what video/barre exercise of your's would you recommend moving on to afterwards?
You could continue your class work by moving onto the Ballet Class for Adult Beginner Centre and there is also a Basic Ballet Barre to follow along to on my channel. I do also have a Ballet Class for Adults DVD, which has 2 more full classes designed for adults at beginner level. If you really like this video then I think you will also like the other classes on the DVD too. You can find out more at www.tipsonballettechnique.com/ Thanks Kimberley
VonSmore: The point of these exercises is to learn to actually dance real ballet. The mathematics of it are long and complex, however, after mastering a complete set of barre and centre exercises (advanced, of course) you will find that, as if by magic, you will be able to dance the classical repertoire!
Great video to practice in between ballet classes. One quick question - what length of barre are you using in this video? I am going to buy a portable barre for home and unsure whether to get a 5 foot or 6 foot barre (want to make sure I have enough space to not hit the legs of the barre that stick out). Thanks!!
Hi YE Martin - the barre I am using in this video is around 6 foot. I would recommend using thebarre.co.uk if you are looking for a portable barre to use at home! I am glad that you are enjoying the video to help with your practice! Kimberley
Thank you for watching my video. I am wearing ballet teaching shoes, which often have a small heel. Thank you for checking out my UA-cam channel and I hope you enjoy my videos. - Kimberley.

Hello, thank you for checking out my channel. Most professional ballet dancers have spent a number of years training at a full time vocational dance school from about 11 years old and then audition for professional ballet companies at around 18 years old. So in terms of training to become a professional ballerina, 18 years old is too late for most people. However, many people begin ballet as an adult and enjoy taking part in adult ballet classes for many years. - Kimberley.
Hello Marissa, thank you for checking out my channel. Most professional ballet dancers have spent a number of years training at a full time vocational dance school from about 11 years old and then audition for professional ballet companies at around 18 years old. So for purely classical ballet, yes 17 is quite late to start if you wish to become a professional ballet dancer. However, if you are interested in other dance styles, there are many colleges that specialise in contemporary dance, musical theatre and other genres and take students from 17 to 18 years old to study dance. I hope that helps and I wish you all the best with your dancing! - Kimberley.

Is that the same as Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do?
Carol, karate is a Japanese martial art form,
jeet kune do is kung fu, like bruce lee, a Chinese martial art form

Thank you so much, your teaching is clear & easy to understand, & the music is fabulous!

Thank you !!
Thank you Suzuki! It’s wonderful to hear that my follow along barre is helping you to stay active. Wishing you good health and happiness at this difficult time. -Kimberley
thank you so much for this video, super well explained and dynamic. From Barcelona, Spain.
You’re welcome Eva! 😊
Thank you for your lovely comment Joy Lara! I am so pleased that you are finding the videos useful - Kimberley
I'm a 42 year old beginner and this video was just what I was looking for thank you. I'm going to keep practicing.

@@TipsOnBalletTechnique thank you so much. I will check them out.
Love!
Thank you! Kimberley
I am 70 years old. I took four months of adult beginner ballet last year. This is a great way to keep up with the routines until I go again to classes this fall.
Excellent news - I am really pleased that you can use this video in between your lessons, what a great combination! Kimberley
Great music ! And clear explanations of the moves . Thanks🌸
You’re welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed the video Rachel. The music is by David Plumpton, he has a lovely selection of CDs of ballet and tap music. You can browse all of his CDs at www.pdedancesupplies.com/collections/david-plumpton-music-for-ballet-class-cds
oh wow this class is amazing! anymore longer classes for beginner adults? I'm HOOKED

You are a beautiful dancer and fabulous teacher! Thank you for your detailed videos with exquisite technique! It has been helping me with my teaching of ballet barre in a 10-12 year lyrical ballet class. :)
Thank you! :-)
Thank you for your lovely comment and that's wonderful that you have started taking ballet classes! Let me know how you're getting on! -Kimberley
Beautiful class! Thank you! Get back to it! ❤️
Thank you! This is a great supplement to the beginning classes I'm taking. I'm often lost when it comes to port de bras and this is a great way for me to practice.
Great Stefanie - I hope that you are enjoying your ballet classes! Kimberley
Wonderful workout. As an aging woman, I really appreciate the strength this imparts to my feet, and how it corrects my posture. Also, I have nearly the very same outfit. It is from Modli Calypsa? They market them as modest bathing suits but they are the perfect workout wear. :D
Awesome video, it's a great addition to my ballet semester classes! Thank you so so much!
You’re welcome Anais, thank you for checking out my channel!
Thank you! I am a former dancer and need to dance at home for now; please do grand battements next class?

I really enjoy your video. Thank you very much.😍 I start practice ballet and really love that way you teach the movements slow and patienly. I would like a video that you can improve the 5th position or the turn outs, please. 😊
Thank you for your comment Elizabeth, it’s lovely to hear that you are enjoying my video 😊 I don’t have a video specifically for turn out and 5th position but you might like this beginner ballet video which includes some tips on the positions of the feet : ua-cam.com/video/KvsNZISrHv4/v-deo.html

I am feeling so much improvement already! My posture throughout the day is so much better, my shoulders more free, fingers more alive and I feel more bouncy. And also, I feel really inspired and considering to start taking ballet classes.
Fantastic! I am so pleased that you are considering taking ballet classes - go for it!! Kimberley

Beautiful music as well . would you be able to share the music what piece and who is playing the piano?
Hi Rachel, thanks for watching. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed the music too! It’s all from David Plumpton’s albums New Classics and New Classics 2. You can see his full collection of albums at: www.pdedancesupplies.com/collections/david-plumpton-music-for-ballet-class-cds
This video is golden!
Thank you so much - Kimberley
Beautiful class Kimberley, thank you! Sandy :)
Thank you Sandy!
Thx Teacher....very good demonstration and videos!!!
I love it
❤️ Thank you Pauli!
Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
Great to hear that you are enjoying the video! Kimberley
Kimberley
thank you!
Thank you so much for these videos. God bless you❗️
My pleasure - Kimberley
thank you so much for this! it's perfect!
You are very welcome - Kimberley
Could you please list music used in the tutorial? Thank you!
How do you properly do a plier? I never seem to get that right and i've never done ballet before.

Kimberley

Awesome :) thanks!
You are most welcome! Kimberley
Kimberley
I love it! Than you!

Love it I’m dead. First time ever doing this.
I am 18 years old and can I start ballerina now?
Starting now will help me to become expert?
Hello, thank you for checking out my channel. Most professional ballet dancers have spent a number of years training at a full time vocational dance school from about 11 years old and then audition for professional ballet companies at around 18 years old. So in terms of training to become a professional ballerina, 18 years old is too late for most people. However, many people begin ballet as an adult and enjoy taking part in adult ballet classes for many years. - Kimberley.
@@TipsOnBalletTechnique thank you so much

is 17 to late to start to become a professional ballet dancer
Hello Marissa, thank you for checking out my channel. Most professional ballet dancers have spent a number of years training at a full time vocational dance school from about 11 years old and then audition for professional ballet companies at around 18 years old. So for purely classical ballet, yes 17 is quite late to start if you wish to become a professional ballet dancer. However, if you are interested in other dance styles, there are many colleges that specialise in contemporary dance, musical theatre and other genres and take students from 17 to 18 years old to study dance. I hope that helps and I wish you all the best with your dancing! - Kimberley.
