- Huge ANTIQUE MALL SHOPPING | RESELLING VINTAGE | THRIFTING for BARGAINS!
We're shopping late at this place! Luckily we're here during their 4th Friday BYOB evening event, so we can stay after hours and do a deep search of this gigantic antique attraction. I follow@CrazyLampLady and @FlyingPigThrifts upstairs in Columbia, Pennsylvania's Burning Bridge Antique Market, as we quest for the fun and fabulous things we might flip for a profit.
Puzzling over the purpose of a homemade pulpit, we head towards a showcase with a Blue Mountain Pottery vase you just never see! Canada seems to be the theme of this case, with Players Cigarette tins and Canada Dry cigarette lighters. We see an unusual German Nubian bust...and that's just walking up the stairs!
This place has variety that spans 1885-1985, so there's fascination for a lot of collectors here. I show a Pottery Craft vase that lets us give tribute to the women who decorated it, then hit a good modernist space with MCM Heywood-Wakefield and a great lamp...adjacent to a really nice Victorian coverlet and 1910s Devil Ware from Royal Bayreuth. A gallery of paint-by-numbers and a 1950s pottery that cured boredom are extra surprises!
So much fun shopping with people who like and appreciate what you like! We get to the counter and leave with a pretty good pile of things, including the Haeger earth wrap pillar candle holder that made it to the Thrift Battle finale @PrimeTimeTreasureHunter ! It's sure fun to do this stuff in the real world too.
We sure see some great stuff in this one, including:
California Originals dealer plaque, Blue Mountain Green Splash animals, 1950s rhinestone handle umbrella, Goldscheider bust, 1980s mauve lily lamp, Tonalá candlesticks, 1960s-1970s Ford car brochures, 1950s felt pennants, Mersman oak 1970s end tables, teal 1960s cocktail set, Halloween devil head shakers, gargoyle door knocker, Jayne Mansfield water bottle, Calvin Klein sign, golliwog doll, The Fugs album, cork lamp, Winart drip glaze pottery, Forest Green 'Bubble' luncheon set, McCoy tulip vases, Pfaltzgraff jardiniere, John Kerry flip flops, Brush-McCoy jardiniere, West German MCM pottery vase, African tourist modern art, American Eastlake paned mirrored cabinet, Victorian mantel luster, Victoria Czech sailing ship spice set, 1920s Chevy grille, Colony Antigua teal pedestal vase, Indiana Mt. Vernon fairy lamp, Wedgwood sample plate for Simmons Mattress, etc.

Good tip about old mirrors.😀
Hello everyone, love your videos and your knowledge 🤗🤔😘
Thank you so much!
Thank you George for adding all the background of the things u showed us.
I always love your videos!
Thank you so much!
The antique dealers must love you!
It's a friendly and fun group!
My guess for the handmade 3 pedestal piece is a hat holder and the box hold the hat pins!
I agree with you. Maybe could also be put in the window of a hat shop.
Agreeing with both of you...recall old haberdasheries & tailor shops & the posh fashionable little design shops/houses offering custom designed dresses/gowns for ladies...off on 1 side would be a "men's avenue" for all things hats, scarves, cufflinks & accessories, ties & bowties some even custom cut & made with matching handkerchiefs...those places just don't spot the streets anymore.
That would be a fun way to use it!
Plant stand, all the way! A nice Boston fern on top, other full plants on the other three stands😊
Once again, we learn so much from you, George. TY!
Glad to hear that!
The topper pot to the wonderful yellow jardinière...wow! Beautiful! I love jardinieres! The complete sets of bowls & bases...prettiest things to sit around, different sizes, some have carved bases of various woods for the pedestal to sit on...I have my Mamaw's lovely cream green, purple & yellow & blue-green raised vines & colored flowers complete jardinière set with wood base...my best prize of life in my opinion. Mamaw's jardinière got me addicted to collecting them. Great video show with everything! Thanks!!!
How cool that you have her set then! I really think they're beautiful too
Hi George & Everyone!
Hi Cat! 😊🖐🏽 Great meeting you too! I can't wait to hangout!
❤️Maddy
We'll all have to get together! Let's say...Portland, July 2023?
My favorite!❤❤❤
Cool! I liked this one too
Great information about old mirrors? You're a wealth of information.
Thank you!
Thanks for the old mirror info, George! I've often debated old or newly replaced. I usually look closely & see if the silvering is missing or foggy, but now, with the newly aquired knowledge you so graciously imparted, i'll know.
George is super with a brain bank of everything! Nomads are always the wise folks through history!!!
That's terrific! Glad I could help
Thanks George.
George, your videos are like a fun class every time. I am blown away by your knowledge. Thanks!
Glad to hear it! I love sharing what I can
That’s what is a great thrifting video. It was nice to see Dagny and Jocelyn again. I appreciate your information about how to tell if a mirror is old.
My pleasure! I always enjoy shopping with them
I am guilty of putting my finger on mirrors now since you passed on that knowledge in a previous video! I love learning things because of your videos!❤️
Fun Times!!!
Oh wow I have seen alot of blue mountain in my day and I'd have never have guessed that vase was by them ! New bucket list find !
Yes! They did some crazy stuff you never see
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
Hi George! 😊🖐🏽 It was such a treat meeting you at the Rose City Vintage show! I wanted to say goodbye but you were on the phone. Busy, busy, busy. 👌🏽😁 I truly appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to give me advice.
Until next time.
❤️Maddy
Oh thank you! I really enjoyed meeting you as well. I'll be there in July 2023 for the next show!
Thanks for sharing 👍
That oak piece at 2;34 looks like a plant holder, if you look at the tops they have rings in them from where plants would sit and get watered too. It never fails I always drip a bit down towards the bottom of the plants. lol
I like that way that you take the time to show and explain the items, even the ones that you are not going to buy but that are of interest. Your videoing (is that a word?) is good, we don't get whiplash or seasick, and they're in focus. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. It must be difficult to find the right item at the right price, while explaining the process. You make it look easy!
I am so pleased to hear that! I want people to see and appreciate the entire breadth of what people collect, not just my little corner of it. I do sometimes overlook buying things I should though because I'm focused on filming instead of shopping! I have tried to learn to film so it's nice to hear I'm doing better with it. Thank you for your support!
I mirror tip was wonderful!
Cool! Glad it's useful
Really enjoy your videos George and your extensive knowledge on a wide range of items. I've been yard saling, thrifting, flea marketing , etc. for over 50 years myself. I like how on top of your knowledge your videos show the realistic side of the hunt and value of things. Every day out isn't always an exaggerated find for a few dollars with an unbelievable profit return. Enjoyed watching you and Carl out together too. Anyway keep up the good work and be blessed.
Oh thank you! I like the fact that someone with your years in this still finds value in what I'm doing, and you know as I do that every shopping trip is not a bounty of 25 cent items worth millions. I want people to see the reality of this business and enjoy collecting for what it really is!
OMG George - we have a lot in common! I was born in DC and lived in Silver Spring after the Korean War for 2 years before coming to NY! Lovely place. My Granny had an amazing house there.
Grandparents always had the best places ever...mine did too!
I'm a new subscriber and a retired antique dealer and wow I'm so impressed with your knowledge! Great video.
Nomads are the folks of wisdom...George is the brain bank of antiques & vintage. I discovered him ages ago through Laura Caldwell at West Coast Revivals...she's a hoot! Might be her at Left Coast Revivals...either way, Laura Caldwell.
That's wonderful! I appreciate that you are getting something out of this since you were in the business, @Yvonne Nourse. And @Curtis Childress, I really appreciate your comment, I'm looking forward to seeing Left Coast Revivals' Laura Caldwell again in Portland soon!
Great tip for accessing a mirrors age
George is the true down-to-earth happy-go-lucky hippie brain bank for all things vintage & antiques!
I like that moniker! Thank you all for watching and I'll try to keep giving more helpful hints
Noooo! Don't say the 80s were 40 years ago! Surely it was just yesterday.
The lines in my face beg to differ
Maybe the small designs on the Simmons plate, at 17:20, must be fort countries where Simmons sold or had representatives.
George you are so knowledgeable !! Is there anything you don't know? Im learning so much it's great!!
I'm so glad! Yes, I just learned tonight that JJ marks on jewelry are Jeanette Jewelry from the 1970s-1990s. We all learn from each other
To my knowledge Pfaltzgraff is no longer manufactured anywhere. Sad that the older pieces are not valued. An older Pennsylvania company that goes back in history.
They still have a website and do sell, but it appears to all be offshore production now
Good evening, George! There were some Rexall cups/mugs in the case at the beginning that caught my attention. I like things like that and the old mortar and pestles. That handmade piece, with the deer photo on it, looks like it was made as a trophy stand. Possibly an archery trophy display stand. The statue next to the case with the cocktail set caught my eye. The large skull key next to the door knocker would be something that I likely wouldn't be able to resist. I could see myself using that gargoyle door knocker. Love to have the Jayne Mansfield water bottle! Loved her squeal😂 Those African art pieces reminded me of something I have - several art pieces done in Tibet using mud and other natural mediums. If I had room to hang them, they'd be in frames. I really liked the Czech cannister set with the USS Constitution on it. If it was in the Czech language, it would've seriously had my interest. I imagine they likely weren't made with the USS Constitution on them with the Czech language, though. That mall looked like one you could spend a week browsing. Thanks for the take-along!!!
Rexall! I liked that drug store when I was little, they mostly are gone in the US but still strong in Canada. A trophy stand! That's a great thought as to a use for that very specifically designed item. Jayne Mansfield water bottle is another bucket list item for me! I like the thought of your Tibetan pieces, they sound primitive and interesting. You're right about the USS COnstitution! Thanks for joining in on this one!
Loudest antique mall ever .
Trophy stand. Squirrel, skunk, badger
I had not thought of small game! That helps
My cousin has one.
❤❤❤
It looks like a plant stand.
Enchanted forest closed many yrs ago.
Rail City, Sandy Pond, NY!!! About a hour north of Syracuse. Not far from my house. I believe most of it is in ruin or sold off now.
Sad to hear but interesting!
💖
That wooden piece is a plant stand
It's a plant stand.
Would the oak pedestal piece have been for tabletop taxidermy mounts?
Thats what I thought. I thought that was wht the deer was in the center and the varying heights of the flat surfaces were for the small taxidermy.
That seems to be the conclusion others had! I think you are likely correct
Plant stand
Perhaps the wooden stand is for some small taxidermy to be displayed?
Someone else suggested hunting trophies, I think you're on the right track
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Who bought the "burn the candle at both ends" art piece? ❣Canada 🍁
If you watch the whole video, you will see George bought it
@@MayditaVanessa I don't know how I missed that, I'm a senior maybe that was it! 🤔
I bought it and it's for sale at Epic Antiques in Seattle now! Things travel in my world
Maybe that unusual, homemade wooden piece was ment to be used as a plant holder.
There may be another somewhere, but I know one Iwo Jima is along the Potomac on the VA side. Is that what you meant when you said it was not in DC?
That's part of it yes
Tramp art? Not sure about that curious table.
