- APPRAISAL FAIR | Antiques Save Small Town! | 1876 Manor HOME TOUR
Columbia, Pennsylvania is a small town with amazing history, making an amazing comeback with the antique and vintage industry at its center! I'm here to support it as part of a group of antique appraisers as we hold the town's first appraisal fair in a newly renovated Market House!
We expect to find good and interesting things at a Pennsylvania appraisal fair, and this one has more than we can show in just one video! We see a football that survived Deflategate, an unusual Victorian ironstone platter that Dr. Lori weighed in upon, a delightfully complete early Barbie collection and a hand made box that might be as old as this 1726 town full of antique delights!
After a bunch more cool finds cross our desks, we tour our wonderful resting place, the wonderfully rebuilt 1876 Freedom Home. This sumptuous Victorian manor is now a lovely and large B&B, walking distance to the multiple museums, antique malls and shops, fine estate jewelry shop and other vintage delights that make Columbia a great Pennsylvania antique destination!

George, you are just a wonderfully kind, respectful, encouraging person!!!! I came for the vintage and antique collectables... I stay for your expertise and FANTASTIC personality!
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that.
Your appraisal videos are some of my favorites!! a such a wonderful variety of items. Thanks George!
Thanks! I have more to come
George is the best❤
Oh, I like this woman who kept her dolls all the years. I'm the same and have all my childhood dolls.
The best 47 and a half minutes of my time🙂
Mine too, really!
$45 for that pumpkin was such a great deal. I'm glad for her. The snap crackle and pop history was interesting. I love houses with secret areas and lots of staircases.
Me too!
Hi George, interesting video, thank you for all your work !
Thank you so much ❤️
Loved the Tom Brady joke.
Ha! I'm glad one person did, not everyone was thrilled with it
George, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. When I'm treasure hunting, your tips always come to mind.
Cool dude! Thanks again good stuff!
George it was wonderful meeting with you! You are such a kind person! Thank you for the appraisal, it was very interesting and wonderful to here. I hope our paths cross again soon!!!
I can't wait to visit Columbia again real soon!
I am so glad! I really enjoyed seeing you there and what you brought. There were more good items and I'll show more in a future video
That secret room was so fun! I bet it was a hiding room.
Awe.......you made your own bed......you're a keeper.
Lol I wasn't at home
The Victorian enamel coin dot pitcher was so pretty. Paragon teacups were adorable.
That is a beautiful restoration of that B&B. And I love the secret door and the labyrinth pattern on the floor. Great history. Thank you for bringing us these stories! 💚💚💚
It was really a wonderful place to stay!
The carriage box is something folks who drive them still use. You keep everything you need in them in case you break down. You also keep some leather straps in them in case a piece of leather tears on your harness.
I used to drive horses. That box was AWESOME!
Very good to know, and useful too!
Finding out the history of old homes is absolutely fascinating! If I ever go to Columbia I'm definitely going to stay in that B&B. Such cool stories! I was in an older house in Meadville PA that had similar stairs that you encountered where they were used for the servants to travel back and forth between rooms and not be seen by the owners while doing their daily duties. And then another old home I visited when I used to live in the South, had a bell in the dining room floor right underneath where the husband sat at the head of the table. Whenever they needed to summon the servants he would press it with his foot and they would hear the bell in the kitchen! I love this kind of stuff!
I do too! I like those old side entries and servant stuff in old homes
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Ten thumbs for this one !!! U made those people's day !! I bet you'd have a BALL !!!! Touring the Julian Price house in western NC !!! Was an episode on hoarders that was bought by two fellas and restored . And rooms are rented. It's on my bucket list !!!
This was jam packed with so much information & history! Loved it!❤️
Fun, thanks for sharing
As always super interesting!😊❤👍
That box looks like what I imagine the box is in the story "The Lottery". Lol.
What a great show! I could watch appraisals all day. I’ve never spent any time in that part of the country and would love to visit some day. So much history and so different from the west coast. ✌🏼
You should! It's definitely interesting.
Best video I have seen lately!!!!!! Thank you for sharing your experience there❤
Wow, thank you! I enjoy doing appraisal videos
Interesting as always thank you
Love the appraisals.
More to come soon
Great video George! Love these appraisal videos. Such good stories on the pieces. That house! The secret room! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it, I sure did too
George you make it seem like I am beside you, you make evey video fun, and teach us something new everytime!
Thank you! I think of you as being beside me in spirit
Love the history of the freedom house🥰and the hidden room
Me too! That was so interesting to me
Thank-you!❤ George yet another fun video! Wow what a neat B&B you stayed at and showed us.
I admire your diplomacy when explaining some piece that someone is endeared to. I wish I had that patience and decorum myself. 👏🏻
I loved this video George. The history of Colombia is fascinating. Thanks again. 👍
It is! Another place the US has meddled in seriously
This was a wonderful show and tell and help of all kinds.
Great video George! Second time around even better! Thanks for sharing!
I'm glad! This was a fun time
Columbia is now on my bucket list!! That was fun! And the house was to die for!!!
Love that house!!🧡
Me too!
I’m getting knowledge from you. I guessed 120.00 on the three wheeled tin toy. I was off a bit but in the ballpark! Thank you. ♥️🙌🏻
You are! I'm impressed. Learning through osmosis is often the best way anyhow
George, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. It was educational, informative, and as always, inspirational. Thank you so much for entertaining me.
I'm so pleased I can!
Loving your Work!
Good evening, George! I'd definitely live in that B & B. Loved the secret room! That massive house I used to have had something along that line. I didn't even know it was there, until the cable guy found it when he was running the cable for the house. There'd be a lot of white that would have to go away in the house, for me, but loved the layout. Being an artist, white walls just don't do it for me. I actually liked the Delacroix art, and I'm usually not too fond of that type of art. I do, seriously, like Jackson Pollock, though! I'd have definitely paid $45.00 for the jack-o-lantern candy collection bucket. Seriously liked the old wagon box! Love these appraisal fair premiers! Thanks for the take-along!!!
That's so funny! Secret rooms are a fantastic feature in any house, I always wanted to have one. I liked where they used strong colors in the rooms, I think the way you might do things in your own home gets tempered when you're renting it but they were not shy about strong design in the living and dining rooms! I do like Pollock and I thought the Delacroix was interesting enough and very thoroughly done. The wagon box, I could own that, I seem to be noticing handmade true antique primitives a lot lately. $45! What a deal on that Halloween bucket. I really do like doing appraisal fairs and look forward to showing you more this Fall!
@@TheAntiqueNomad I actually never went back to that room the cable guy found. The house had..."eccentricities"...so I wasn't about to get myself into a place where I couldn't stand and run😆 I like the jewel tones in a house, especially in one that old. I rented five bedrooms in that monster I had, and there wasn't a white wall in the house. Pollock's work is fantastic! I, too, am really noticing the handmade primitive antiques. They seem to have more of a "human feel" to them than the factory-made items. That was a freakin' steal on that jack-o-lantern bucket! Looking forward to more of the appraisal fair premiers!!!
You’re the best, and not a snob🥰
Never understood snobbery
I so appreciate and enjoy your videos. I learn so much. I had a Great Grandfather who fought in the Civil War. His name was Grorge Washington Glover 2nd I think. I love US history. I want to go back east and see the 13 orginal colonies. I I have my Barbie, Ken, Skipper,Midge,Allen. Also. Please Stay Safe, Happy And Healthy. Have A Wonderful Day
You would really enjoy the historic aspects of the east coast! I hope you get to go there.
What an interesting town & such a beautiful house. Thanks for the tour, George! You know those little "stairs to nowhere", reminds me of Jocelyn's new home. She did a home tour before they moved in & there was a few of those "stairs to nowhere", as she called them, & the "house of a dozen doors". That secret room was amazing! Yes, if only the walls could talk what a tale they'd tell! I'm about sure enslaved people were hidden & helped there.
I haven't gotten to see her new home up close yet, but it does seem to be a thing in Pennsylvania!
What a wonderful B&B!! I learn something new with every video
So glad!
Your ancesters were strong people, wow.
I'm glad they were...I'd have been the one saying, "No, I'll just stay behind here in Sweden-England-Germany-etc."
This was a treat! Gad, I love enthusiastic young people :)) From the Barbie collection to glass to that wonderful painting. Fun Stuff!
I do too! It makes me feel like I want to share everything I know so they can start off on the right collecting foot
George this is so hilarious you are posting about Columbia, PA. I met you at the Springfield extravaganza- we live in Nashville but are from Pennsylvania. We are currently up here and just a few days ago I found Columbia on my google maps when looking for new spots to antique hunt. And now you’re posting about being there! So funny. We fell in love with it there - such a charming spot. Great antique shops :) we filled a uhaul! Woohoo
I really like the town! Great antiquing and a nice setting for it
Very informative video thank you
I live hour away and didn't realize how much there is in Columbia. I did visit Jocelyn and Dagny couple weeks ago and finally got to Burning Bridge. You actually got one of your pieces there for the thrift battle!! Love watching as always.
Pam
So cool! I sure was impressed and surprised, and need to make a return trip
Hi, New subscriber here, I’m so happy I found your channel. I have lots of antiques,so this is going to become my favorite channel really soon.☺️
Hi! I'm so glad that you found it and thanks for subscribing! Come chat with us during a premiere any M/W 8 pm eastern if you like
Columbia is beautiful. I almost ended up there. Long time ago, my late husband was offered a job at the watch and clock museum. He turned it down to go to work at Bulova.
He probably was smart, but nice offer!
Great video ❤
You are so informative. I just love watching and learning from you.
❤❤❤
😊😊😊😊😊😊
The painting is interesting. Might be something listed in Benezit. I usually have good luck with artists there. If it is a NY artist from the Beat period in NY, there were tons of artists working just like there were tons of poets, musicians, etc. I would look into some books about that particular period in NY. A very interesting time!
Thank you for that lead! I'll look for that.
love your appraisals. I really liked that wagon box! Never saw one before this.
Wasn't that cool?
This was such a treat to watch! It covered so many interesting topics. As crazy as it might sound, I’ve recently moved Pennsylvania to the top of a location I might consider moving to. I’m no spring chicken so a four season state might be odd. However, Pennsylvania checks many boxes!
I retired here to Columbia from a lifetime in NYC. It was the best decision, it is a lovely place to live.
It definitely has plenty of great old stuff to enjoy!
I hope you got a great rate for staying there because of the terrific tour you gave of the house. Doubt that the secret room was used by the Underground Railroad though as the house was built in 1876. Another informative and enjoyable video. Thanks so much, George!! P.S. I can't find "Curb Digger Karl/Carl " on UA-cam or the web. What am I doing wrong??
Lol that's right about 1876, I hadn't thought of that. I suspect it was just a storage room but I like it! Please go to Redbubble.com and then put in Curbdigger Carl to find his stuff
I would love to stay in that house and go antiquing ❤
💖
I had to skip by the Barbie clothes.I sold my Barbie clothes and Spanish Flamenco doll for 100.00 In the Early 80s. Lived on my own. Saw them later at a doll museum at Hobby City. Still hurts.❤
Yep.. Vernon Grant was from Rock Hill SC. I lived there for a while and was able to see his work in real life when we visited a printer who printed out limited edition prints of my own artwork. Question, though... speaking of art. I have had pieces travel the world, get sold to people all over and I have had work disappear that traveled in a tour and have had other art stolen. I also have some pieces displayed in various areas. Do you think that if someone came in with one of my pieces, that it would be known as mine? I've always wondered. I have a different last name.
How neat that you got to see his stuff up close! Sorry to hear about your losses...I think if you want it to be known, you might create a bio that includes both your surname and your artist name...if you feel comfortable revealing that.
This AirBnb was so cool! Never heard the burning bridge story so that is really interesting.
It sure was!
😊
I have done that before George, marked an item up and it sold with 2 weeks after sitting in my booth for 5 or 6 months. Plus another peraon has asked the owner of the flea market when I was marking it down, left a contact number, but never answered. So go figure, your rational is correct. People want to brag about what they have paid for an item. This was an antique brass fire extinguisher!!!
😊😊😊😊
Maaan they were busy in 1910 😎
Yes they were!
Just a great b& b..bo hiss hiss bad tom Brady joke
It sure was! I couldn't help the bad joke, my brother-in-law is a big fan and I have to needle him when I can
The old Ken's are bigger new clothes don't fit
Zz
ok
