So relatable! We’ve had mice, snakes, flying squirrels and bats in our old house. So far, the rats have stayed in the barn. The joys of old home restoration. Get a cat. Love your new channel!

Hi Dean & Borja, I’ve just found you, on UA-cam & love what you are doing with the room,the paneling ,the secret doors,the plastering & paint colour are absolutely stunning! I had to watched this video twice, i loved it so much ! I’m from a long line of English tradesmen ! my late husband was a brilliant joiner / carpenter ! I can spot a rubbish job from a mile off ! You guys are doing brilliantly,the preparation & workmanship is amazing! You both should be very proud of yourselves !

Those ceiling beams are gorgeous. I love seeing people today, still knowing the old woodworking techniques, using their hands. There is no problem with power tools- when needed, but some jobs just need the touch of olden ways. Rats…….. ugh! I feel you pain! ❤❤❤ great episode.

I was getting kindling and I pulled the tarp cover up and there was a giant wood rat 🐀 staring at me!😳I screamed and my 14 pound little dog went Cugo crazy and was trying to get it! Whilst I was having (I thought) a heart attack! I called my husband and he told me to call our builder to come over and take a look! Short… He saw it! Called my husband and said the rat is gigantic! Shorter… It’s gone now! 🐀 BTW it was out on our back deck by our door! If the rat was in the house, I would be moving!😝😜🤪 Shortest… Loving your UA-cam account! Can’t wait for the next video!🥰

Highly recommend keeping those lovely oak doors unpainted at least for now. Easy enough to add paint later once you’ve got the rest of the decor sorted if you still think there’s too much wood. For me there’s no such thing! Lovely seeing you bring this to YT ❤

I hope you have been able to completely resolve the problem. maybe you could get a large Cat from a rescue that is and indoor and outdoor Cat. Great video...sorry about Mr. Rat. Decades ago, when I was in high school ("secondary school"), I worked at an automobile repair shop where I grew up, in Texas. A nice lady who lived on a farm brought her car in for service, and as I raised it on a hydraulic lift to reach the car's underside, the springs loosened. A critter that looked the size of a water spaniel plopped upon the garage floor. The entire staff of five people began chasing the terrified creature with various blunt instruments...frightened the bejesus out of everybody, and, of course, led to the demise of the rat whose tail was as long as its body. I wish I were closer; I own a beautiful small carved marble mantle, "federal style," that would look beautiful in your estate. I'd gladly contribute it to your worthy project, but it weighs as much as a rat-infested sedan.
A thread that's disgusting and funny - oh my gosh! I had mice. I bought these electronic things that you plug into an outlet and it doesn't affect people or cats or dogs, etc., but it keeps the mousies out of my house. I despise mouse dirt and rats - and I live in the country, too!
@@mytinyestate Bummer! Try stuffing gaps with steel wool. Icky critters don't chew through that (we had rattlesnakes get into our Adirondack great camp and before we repaired their entrance points we stuffed them and it worked).
Good grief boys, it's a rat ! Considering all the incredible things and bad discoveries you have found, that must be the least troublesome thing yet. My daughter has kept rats for years, they are clever resourceful creatures. Drama queens come to mind 😁😊
Welcome to my world, guys... at least it was when I was restoring my listed Cotswolds house. Rats cause horrendous damage and are a health hazard - I tried everything until I came across the Good Nature Humane A24 rat/mouse trap - not joking, but almost instant success and I now always use them - I have one in the loft and three outside - one in the walled garden, where the bins are and the storage cupboards. Works better than anything, and is a humane way to solve the problem. Yes they are expensive but you only need to change the cartridge every six months and they give peace of mind...
There is never just 1 rat. They always invite their friends and family to join them. They sound like a humans walking above your head when in the ceiling. The size of footballs. I had a broken roof shingle and endded up with 29 🐀 🐀 🐀. When they die in the walls, it smells horrid. Also maggots start coming out of light fixtures. Just plain nasty ...ewwww
