    Both of you are Jacks of all Trades. The work you put in, and the amount of time you spend on that work, well, admirable is not a strong enough sentiment for what you are doing. But it's as close as this old lady can come. Good job guys!

    These episodes are never long enough: I just want to keep watching you working on your projects! The bathroom looks lovely, and everything is so well thought out. I sympathise with Dean and his sleep problems, as I too wake between 4 and 5, but don’t get up - instead, I watch videos of other people doing things!!

    Beautiful job on the new bathroom.
    Dean, my mind does the same thing yours does at night. You conscious or unconsciously think of all these things that need to be done. The more you try to stop thinking about those things, the worse it gets. I finally went to a therapist, and she actually helped me. I hope you consider doing the same. Especially with a baby on the way you will need your sleep. Hugs to both of you handsome teddy bears.

    • @mytinyestate
      @mytinyestate  4 місяці тому

      Ahh thanks for that! I did go to one but clearly it was the wrong one I think there has to be a compatibility between your therapist and yourself for it to be successful I just never got that

    Dear Dean, your work ethic is top drawer, actually both of you are perfectionists. I was like you two in my younger years and now I'm 69 years old. Don't sweat the small stuff and see the forest for the beauty it is with all the little imperfections and not that one ugly tree with the split in the bark. Just like the mixed colours of the daffodils it's beautiful. Smartin up or I'll send over a bunch of slappers. Love you guys. ❤❤😊😊

    You guys are too funny.😊 Some may call your work ethic as "perfectionism" others may call it "obsessive compulsive". Hehehe I realized it was the latter when you had the vacuum working as you go in one of the projects. I do the same when I am cooking. I wash dishes, pots and pans when their use is no longer necessary. (I don't use the dish washer. I don't trust it's cleansing usefulness.) 😅 BTW you two totally failed with the cheese cake debacle. It was funny though...😅

    I’m so enjoying watching you work together to create these beautiful rooms. Just one request … PLEASE WEAR A MASK when you are cutting marble or anything else. Even though you mostly do this outside so the dust blows away, surely there are particles that you inhale without knowing. Here in Australia we are stopping the production of composite (mixed rock) kitchen/bathroom benches because cutting them without the proper safety gear is causing people lung problems - similar to asbestosis. On a happier note, you are a great team and I can’t wait for your next video to arrive on my screen😊🦘

    Hello Dean - i hear your pain of your mind not turning off when you're trying to rest.
    I often wake at night and my brain is making lists/solutions for Work problems. I often just send myself emails or in Teams have a running list and write down the latest thoughts and visualise moving it from my mind to the document. And that helps my brain let go. It takes practice but it works well for me. Maybe practice some breathing techniques too. Gosh you've got fabulous gardens, let that seep into your brain and push out the To Do list thoughts. You can do it!

    Dean!!! You need to try to practice being in the present. I was like you always planning, having back up plans to my plans, basically over thinking. I had a full total burn out and my body crashed. It's taken 2.5 years for my health to change and 6 months after the shift for the better I'm still working on getting my body strength to being able to to basic things. I know you are busy, but try taking 10 minutes to do meditation, and if you can't quite meditate yet a couple minutes of controlled breathwork helps your nervous system. Love you guys! And love all the work you have done! Thank you for sharing a window into your lives.

    To keep my mind from racing when I try to fall asleep, I focus my mind on a word game - going thru the alphabet think of one word movie titles (or those with proper names) or taking a six letter word and making the most words outs of combinations of the 6 letters. It usually works.

    Dean you overthinking everything comes down to the fact that you don't make time for a coffee... And that's why when you're on holiday you say screw it and just power down. It takes some adjusting but it is possible to find balance.
    However I totally feel your pain not being able to have a restful nights sleep when there's a million things to do because I'm exactly the same.

But burnout is real and can affect you in more ways than you think. So sometimes Dean when you find yourself not being able to sleep imagine yourself being on holiday... allow yourself to shutdown and just say f#@ it, I deserve it. Turn over and let the warmth of Borja and the bed envelop you. No one is judging you, you deserve it.
      PS when it really doesn't work I put on rain or ocean sounds and I make the bedroom extra cold.. that usually does the trick ❤️

    Dean - how you feel is very relatable. There are quite a few potential sources of the always thinking (& only relaxing on holiday) - ADHD & C-PTSD being the two I know best. But no matter the source, look into vagal nerve theory & somatic exercises to experience calm (eg box breathing). You will probably HATE it to start off with 😂 because initially trying to calm your nervous system feels awful. But it’s so so good for calming your nervous system. I found becoming a parent a huge motivator to find more peace in my body because kids are so finely tuned to what our bodies are telling them about danger and safety.

    I think you both are amazing people and renovators. Every time you bring a room back to life it looks astounding. If I put my old counsellor hat on again Dean you need to find better coping skills to deal with your brain. If when you go on holiday and you can relax I suggest you schedule a week’s leave after each room to recharge yourself and Borga. I know it’s harder in the UK than here in Australia as we get more paid leave than the UK I think.

      @@mytinyestate it takes practice, worth persevering. Find something that you relate to. I found waking my body up or in the eveningputtingmy body to sleep, from my toes to my head and concentrating on channelling positive energy to each part of the body. If I found myself losing concentration I would stop and refocus. Some days were easier than others and I improved as time went on. I slept better and woke refreshed and with more energy. Try a night time regime and start small. Good luck hope you can find something that helps you sleep.

      @@mytinyestate I'm in the US, but I went to my family doctor & she referred me to a psychiatrist. They asked a bunch of questions and put me through some testing. Funny enough, stimulant medication can slow us down and help calm our brains and bodies. That might not be it, but the same doc could give coping techniques and help sleeping 💗

    Questions if you have time to answer:
    Where did you source marble tiles for your shower? Did you have them cut to a bespoke size so two fit perfectly side by side in the shower stall so you didn’t end up with messy little pieces?

    • @mytinyestate
      @mytinyestate  6 місяців тому +1

      Of course! It’s a company called Fired Earth, we love it, also the marble comes from Spain ☺️
      When we designed the shower enclosure we had in mind the tiles that we wanted to use to minimise wastage ☺️
