“Utter INSANITY!” Julia Hartley-Brewer Fumes As Brecon Beacons Changes Name Due To Climate Change
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 кві 2023
- The Brecon Beacons National Park is changing its name as a direct response to the climate and ecological crisis, the park’s CEO has said.
From Monday, it will adopt the Welsh name of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park - pronounced Ban-eye Bruck-ein-iog - or the Bannau for short.
The park’s managers said the present name referencing wood-burning, carbon-emitting beacons no longer fits the ethos of the park.
Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by Conservative MP for Brecon and Radnorshire Fay Jones to discuss the change.
Fay says: “I don’t think anybody looked at the logo of the national park and was encouraged to set wildfires and to behave irresponsibly!”

What do you think of the name change?
Will always be the Brecon Beacons
Just another sign of how broken this country has become. How are we employing such dumb people why are they getting paid.

It's in Wales not England. It's up to Wales to decide. They should call it by it's Welsh name. It's not even on the English border ffs.
Just because they change the name doesn't mean we have to
My thoughts exactly, don't pretty much all place names exist because the locals are the people that name them?

The world is going crazy.. I'm welsh too..and too many Welsh people they will still call it by its right full name.. I wonder who decided to change the name?? Somebody English?
I thought "Beacon" was meant to be a positive word, as in a beacon of hope or a beacon of light, a word used to encourage and raise us up. I can't see the new word making it in to many motivational speeches.
Beacon is referred to elsewhere whilst mountains are so-named. Most English speaking people are comfortable using the word beacons instead of hills or mountains. This is insanity!
No hope is allowed any more! How dare you 😅
Those phrases all originate from traveling in past times and coming across beacons to give you security because they would have people there or they were lit one after the other as warning across the landscape. Names also give a history of past use. Belfield where bells were cast ..Wells where you could get water. etc.

@ Solo Performer
Maybe that's part of the plan. They seem to be doing their best to keep the public out of the countryside. They're planning to cull Ponies,Sheep and Cattle on Dartmoor. Grazing animals play a huge role in keeping the countryside accessible. Add in their rewilding plans, the planting of forests etc and it's not hard to see their game. I know they're talking about reintroducing native animals, like the Red Squirrel, but this entails the mass culling of the Grey Squirrel, something I find unacceptable, especially as they plan to sell them for their meat and I thought they wanted to stop people eating meat. In addition I was reading about a guy in America, who is in trouble for growing too many vegetables, although he was a market gardener, selling veg at farmers markets and giving food to friends, neighbours etc. The plan, re farming in the Brecon Beacons sound good, but you do have to wonder what their future plans really are. I think they will try to push lab grown food on to the public in the future.
