Wow! I didn't even know they made fabric from Pineapple fiber! Banana fibers too! I was directed here by a comment on a video about that. Beautiful and fascinating!
Here in New Zealand we do the same with harekeke(flax) to extract moka (thread) which we use as rope, fishing lines, all sorts. If we trace our migration through our ancestors filipinos and maori share a very similar culture and language its very interesting. I'm a weaver here and i have many filipino friends who always sending me these type of videos. Absolutely amazing 😍
Soooo that’s why products that has a pineapple fiber made are quite costly! The process and the craftsmanship is not an easy task! Kudos and salute to the weavers pf Pineapple. They’re jist like the T’boli tribe who really work hard for this amazing art ❤️
Really interesting to see. I grew up seeing barongs at a lot of formal Filipino occasions, but never had a clue what the fabric was, or how tactile and time-consuming the process to even create it could be. I'm glad I finally know!
WOW this is so amazing! The work that goes into this textile mindblowing! Thank you for your dedicated hard work. I learned a lot from this. Newfound appreciation and gratitude for hand-made crafts...
The Piña fabric is very strong but so cool to wear in hot weather! The Barong shirts and clothing are very formal appearing in an informal way and always attracts attention ... just be careful because it takes a stain, too. Best not to wear when eating Cioppino ... :)
only now do i highly appreciate the tremendous work that goes into making one fine barong..i was fortunate to wear one before and the one I had felt very smooth..
The word "bastos" is also used to describe someone who is rude, or as an insult to mean someone is dirty or indecent. I guess that's why it refers to the washout - the unwanted part of the plant.
I would like to learn how to get the yarn. We already do weaving with cotton and silk and the Pina yarn can be an added one to our collection. In our country we grow alot of pineapples. Can they teach someone to do it?
I think you and those with you can already make them since you already have the resources. The devices like the ones in this video doesn't require electricity and your country already has something similar or can put together. Though to really achieve the sheen and elegant texture of the Piña cloth does take time. But don't all things of Beauty and quality? 😀😀😀😉😉😉😍😍😍
Hi, I am living in Vietnam, having a 10.000 hectare pineaple plantation. I would want to learn this techique, or colaborate with some companies in Philippines to produce the fiber. Would you help me with some ideas. Thanks.
If you look carefully nothing is useless even the broken plate. It is not a throw away society like today. Notice also the clam shell has it's uses and are available all the time like the broken plate. I'm sure they didn't break that deliberately either in case you're wondering. The work is simply amazing.
Heil Wolf I am sure you have something in your life that you use and could do with an upgrade but you are use to the old one so you don’t replace it .same for them.
Good day po. Permission to use your video for educational purposes po. For our video presentation in Contemporary Philippine Art from the Region (CPAR). Thank you po.

In fairness, most of what you see would be made of ramie linen or synthetic fibers. Piña would extremely expensive.
Massive respect to these artisans! Such a beautiful fabric.

From Spanish 'basto' which translates to English 'coarse'. Pino is from Spanish 'fino' meaning fine or thin. Coarse and fine strands.
For short bastos is manyak.
at kelan ka pa nagkaron ng phd sa linguistics at mali naman haka haka mo ha?

pinya means pineapple ...

can they find a more sophisticated tool than that broken plate
+Heil Wolf i hope you could donate some good tool rather than talkin
+Heil Wolf -- It seems your comment was taken as an offensive remark by Chico Tablason. Pinoy pride hurt.

Tip:if you dont want to break a plate just use a small plate called a platito
