how could anyone be arguing about who is better or who started what?! this is what music is about, everyone playing and enjoying it, and there may be better or worse out there but this is top class and i love it
The blues greats (Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, etc.) would be proud that beautiful music like this still exists in today's pop-bubble gum world.
You know, I keep telling myself that it's not about the destination, it's about the journey, but god DAMN, I wish I could play like that! Just phenomenal!
People seem to forget/not know this is Trey Anastasio at his absolute lowest point in his established career. The man went on to rehab about a year after this occasion... that said, I'm super happy to see Trey healthy these days!!
+Sco Yeah...he's still bad at blues. I don't blame him though. For blues, it's all about feel, and you're either born with it (like B.B), or you're not (like Trey). He's still a good guitarist though.
@IwotchVid3oz yes he toured with him the early nineties. carlos was pretty impressed by phish. during ecstatics moments of jamming he described the scene unfolding as "the band being a hose, and the music was the water rushing through the band into the audience" which appeared as "flowers dancing and floating in the water coming through the hose" or something like that, which stuck. now those ecstatically immersive moments in their jams are reffered to as the "hose"
The blues is very much alive today thanks to Stevie Ray Vaughn. Blues lovers live all over the world, but every now and then someone comes along who can really play the Blues. Personally, I keep the tradition alive by listening to all the old blues music on my cd player.
I think that everyone who says that one of these world-class musician/guitarists is better than another one, is using the wrong word. It's not a matter of 'better' or 'best' at their level; but a matter of one's personal taste, or the one you like the best. There is no objective measure of musicianship on the level of these guys.
So sweet and epic. Love how they start on Funky Bitch and just take it to the stratosphere. Two living legends and two of the best to ever play the instrument in I and I humble opinion.
@himtroy - I actually feel the opposite way. Trey is extremely technically proficient while Warren plays with more feeling. Just an opinion, but they are both sick.
How in the hell is no one commenting on the fact that they are both practically wearing the exact same thing: black on the same color blue jeans. not to mention their hair is practically the same color... that is fucking amazing.
Here are just a few great musicians in my book. Pete Huttlinger, Joe Pass, Martin Taylor, Tommy Emmanuel, Bob Brozman, Marco Pereira, John Williams -- many more - there is no better then.
I find it funny people are saying who is better than who, when the actual guitarists give each other such respect and just want to play together and wind up making beautiful music
Why do I somehow get the feeling that arguing about whether Trey or Warren is "the better guitarist" is basically taking a gigantic shit on what is, to my ears, a beautiful piece of jamming? Fan-boys on both sides ought to pull your heads out of your asses and learn to appreciate the fact that music like this still exists at all. If you need a harder kick in the ass than that, I'll happily invite any of you to allow my teenage daughter to be the DJ in your car while you drive.
@xeric8 nah man its true. my neighbor shane brodie roomed with mike gordon in college. mike lives 20 minutes from my house and he visits my neighbor at least once a month. and trey comes along sometimes to. so we all jam.
you dont need to. if you play with people worse than you, as long as they're intermediate at least, youll get better by learning how to play off of others.
@sbriefel12 Yeah man houser is awesome! What do you think of Jimmy Herring joining the mix? I've been a Herring fan for some time now and pretty stoked about him joining.
how could anyone be arguing about who is better or who started what?! this is what music is about, everyone playing and enjoying it, and there may be better or worse out there but this is top class and i love it
Here here !
trey is one of the greatest improvisational guitarists of all times, period.
Comment Deserves more thumbs up
@@Shmeck002 gave it mine for sure
@@Shmeck002 I wish I had more thumbs, 2 isn't enough
That's right..✅
Ok..I really dig this...
The blues greats (Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, etc.) would be proud that beautiful music like this still exists in today's pop-bubble gum world.
Both Trey and Warren are incredibly talented. I could listen to this all day!
A lot of warren Haynes virtuosity on the guitar goes unnoticed . what a great complimentary player as well as a lead guy
Warren Haynes is a monster guitar player, just love that guy. He makes every musical situation better. This was really nice.
Imagine that sitting on the front porch of the house next door to you, riffing away and sipping on frosties all day.
Warren Hayes is so respected in the music world and it shows in this video with Trey. Great Jam gentleman!
warren,a classic blues soloist mixed with the unconventional jam style of trey makes simply beautiful harmony.
Two of the great underrated guitarists in history
I've heard this soooo many times, it just keep a getting better every time I listen ;)
musicain5 i forgot i posted this.....after i remember seeing this now and im not suprised.
If it wasnt for all the "know it alls" on You Tube I wouldnt of thought this was Warren and Trey playing the blues for us. Thanks for the post.
"all of sudden we were on top of each other..."
+kingathan star Ethereal Jiu-Jitsu. Full mount and pulling guard at the same time.
reach around ?
Haha
Lord knows I'm standing out, I got nowhere to go
If you wanna know what it feels like to play music on a high level, trey can explain. Dudes a treasure.
OMG grow up already this is a big ole world and there is enough room in it for all the talent... Warren is freaking amazing...and I LOVE this video!!!
You gotta love headphones. Right now I have Warren in my left ear and Big Red in my right. Talk about eargasm.
I need to go out and buy a guitar ASAP. Nothing but admiration and respect for these guys.
warren kills it, he makes every note count and his finger picking rhythm's are awesome!
Trey really loves that guitar, he's used it so long.
This video is great.
The Languedoc light one..
Awesome. How about a whole album just like this! Two guitars is all you need with players like this. Thank you so much for this post!
EEEEVERY TIME I SEE HER...She got new fancy clothes.
Very mellow blues improv! Thank you for posting this!
so deep and perfect, cant even imagine the depth and thats why some people wont like it, but if you understand whats happening youll just smile
You know, I keep telling myself that it's not about the destination, it's about the journey, but god DAMN, I wish I could play like that! Just phenomenal!
Man I'm so glad I stumbled onto this gem. Thank you for sharing. Subscribed.
They could play like this for 24 hours straight and I'd listen to it the entire time
People seem to forget/not know this is Trey Anastasio at his absolute lowest point in his established career. The man went on to rehab about a year after this occasion... that said, I'm super happy to see Trey healthy these days!!

+Sco Yea Trey probably had pills in his pocket and probably popped about 5 oxycodones before this- so glad he got clean.
@stephencm321 Bad at blues? because Trey knows nothing about pentatonic scales, rhythm, and licks?
What are *you* smokin?
Sco lowest point? He sounds great?
Sco A year later is a long time. He doesn't look to be at a low point in this video, although, yeah, he was probably hooked on opiates by this point.
both these guys at the TOP of their game....unreal jam
Living legends goin at it.. Fucking amazing
my favorite part of this video is seeing how much music still makes Trey "little kid" excited.
@IwotchVid3oz

That was fantastic

the emotion in this is amazing
Through Dave in the mix as a vocalist and you have three of thee most incredible musicians alive
I think that everyone who says that one of these world-class musician/guitarists is better than another one, is using the wrong word. I agree that it's a matter of taste & opinion.
In my opinion Warren is the more talented.
One word. Goosebumps.
So sweet and epic. Love how they start on Funky Bitch and just take it to the stratosphere. Two living legends and two of the best to ever play the instrument in I and I humble opinion.
"you start listening so intently that your like a half a second behind your brain" warren feels the music
Hey man
Best jam sesh ever
So true!! Such an inspiring story
@himtroy - I actually feel the opposite way. Trey is extremely technically proficient while Warren plays with more feeling. Just an opinion, but they are both sick.
Agree.
Trey looks a kid on christmas. He so exited and looks at Warren as if it was a wonder of the world. I'd probably be like that too hahaha
so great!
Wo, The best Jam ever!
"We needed a bass player about half way thru that". Classic!
Phantastic....every.time.
i'm thrilled..
Great blues jam this
Just golden! Thnx 4 posting it!
god damn trey and his awesomeness (=
this is SO good
I like Warren Haynes playing. Actually, my favorite DVD is "the deepest end".
@greeeenmachine thank you very much

didn't know Trey ntil I came across this video.
he's got some tasty phrasing.
dig it, got to discover other stuff of him
Yeah.... You should learn about Trey between 1983 and 2004. Guitar monster.
I will; if you suggest me wich way to go in listening the great aomunt of stuff Phish realesd through the years it'd be great
Armando Pace Listen to "A Live one" by Phish

Do you live in a cave?
How does this not have 10 million views? Oh, that's right, people like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.
exactly.
that is some sick a.ss s.hit - thanks for putting it up.I love these guys who critique the f.uck out of every note played, get laid every now and then
Currently tabbing this out!
GOD I LOVE THAT TONE
He's oozing soul! Warren and Derek Trucks are the NEW guitar hero's. Jimmy, Eric, and David have passed the torch.
How in the hell is no one commenting on the fact that they are both practically wearing the exact same thing: black on the same color blue jeans. not to mention their hair is practically the same color... that is fucking amazing.
Cuz this ain’t a fashion show bud
"when we did that thing down in asheville." thats where i live, and i was there
how does this not have more views than the top bieber video
Can’t believe this is 15 years ago
Freakin' nice. Jamming is not about competing. Jamming is about exploring. Here's your proof if ever there was one.
damn Warren you killed it
This is two genres overlapping; simultaneously melding their craft at a higher level. Learn from it; don't hate.
nice pickup. pretty amazing really
Here are just a few great musicians in my book. Pete Huttlinger, Joe Pass, Martin Taylor, Tommy Emmanuel, Bob Brozman, Marco Pereira, John Williams -- many more - there is no better then.
@suspect56 I agree with you. Good point.
They can communicate so friggin well
So dang good!!
I find it funny people are saying who is better than who, when the actual guitarists give each other such respect and just want to play together and wind up making beautiful music
Never really heard Trey play "blues" before. He's quite competent at it...
awesome. thanks for panning their guitars!
"All of a sudden we were on top of each other..." Delicious context >:D

I just happened to read some of the comments....holy $h!t man, might possibly be the greatest reply I've ever seen! ✌️
Anyone know where and when this was?
6:11 Here on 12/16/2019
Yup. That slow down is right on the ear

Pure country gravy
It’s true the jell well. It’s a beautiful thing. Yes don’t think let the music flow through you
You guys can really wail!!!!!
@xeric8 nah man its true. my neighbor shane brodie roomed with mike gordon in college. mike lives 20 minutes from my house and he visits my neighbor at least once a month. and trey comes along sometimes to. so we all jam.
I agree! Well said!
Now I understand a tiny bit about musical growth by playing with others. How do you find players that are either as good as you or better?
you dont need to. if you play with people worse than you, as long as they're intermediate at least, youll get better by learning how to play off of others.
Double mint Big Red
Well put my friend.
apparently 21 people must have been watching this with the sound off. this sh*t rocks!
Awesome, I love this!
@sbriefel12 Yeah man houser is awesome! What do you think of Jimmy Herring joining the mix? I've been a Herring fan for some time now and pretty stoked about him joining.
hey are you the same guy that i was talking to about the derek trucks video with?
you can really see the stoner teenager inside both of them come out when they end the jam and talk about how cool that was while laughing
Anyone know the year of Warren Haynes les paul
Great
Dude! where/when did EC say that? wow!
when he says the name carlos do you think he means carlos santana?
