My mama use to make Hungarian cabbage rolls when I was a little girl, I'm very old now. They were so good but we're time consuming. I remember she used to put the cabbage in boiling water and it would take forever to make. Her recipe was a little different but the technique was the same except for that wonderful microwave and Crock-Pot tip, Glory hallelujah!!! Thank you for sharing what you know and God bless you real good 💚 🥀🐴 🌿 Jude from Kentucky My Mama's Recipe: 1 large leafy cabbage-boiling water, to cover 1 pound ground Chuck 1/2 cup rice, cooked (slightly undercooked) 1 small onion, chopped fine 2 large eggs-1teaspoon salt-1/4 teaspoon pepper. 2 cans of tomatoes, undrained 1 can tomato paste or sauce 1 clove of garlic 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 3 tablespoons lemon juice 3/4 teaspoon of salt-1/8 teaspoon pepper Remove 12 outer leaves from cabbage and place in large pan of boiling water to cover. Let stand 30 minutes. Drain well and set aside. Coarsely chop remaining cabbage and put in bottom of large pan. Set aside. Mix beef and next five ingredients. Put 2 tablespoons of the mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf, fold left and right side over mixture and roll up. Arrange rolls seam side down in the pan. Top with onion slices. Mix tomatoes and remaining ingredients and pour over cabbage rolls. Cover and cook slowly 1 1/2 hours or until tender. Yield: 4-6 servings This recipe is at least 60 years old. I thought you might enjoy a bit of antiquity. I hope I didn't offend anyone, I just thought I would share an old recipe.
Thank you so much, you're so nice. I hope I didn't hurt your feelings my putting that recipe on I just thought you might like it. I hope you always do well and that you are blessed in so many ways💚🥀
Love stuffed cabbage here at my house, my mom made them differently from others by cooking hers in beef broth, No tomato sauce or tomato in them at all. We use onion, garlic, salt, pepper and a little bit of herbs de provence. I also always do double of this recipe, two heads of cabbage we eat them for dinner, breakfast and lunch for days, TFS your recipe.
Oh, wow!! That's a new ay, I bet it's yummy! I'm wondering if they freeze well? I am thinking that the cabbage would get yucky, but I'm not sure. What do you think?
Hello Tammy, you made stuffed cabbage rolls look so easy to make, especially with adding and mixing all the ingredients to a zip lock bag. What a great idea! My question is can we use the left over ingredients to stuff bell peppers? Why do some people add an uncooked egg to the ingredients? Is the egg necessary? I really enjoyed watching your video, and thank you :)
Thank you so much! Yes, for sure you can use the filling for peppers too! Would be yummy! The egg is supposed to help bind everything. I have done it with and without and I don't really see a difference. :) Enjoy!
Look delicious! Thank you! Going to try this on Sunday. I am a pretty good cook but I can see my cabbage flying across the room and right through my kitchen window while I try to core it. I am often clumsy when cooking but if it's good, it's worth a broken window. LOL
I didn't bother to roll them up and used real rice. Like you I used a bag to mix it up then put a layer of the mixture a layer of cabbage, ending with cabbage on top pour on the sauce. When it was done I gave it a good stir and served it up. No time for rolling here and it taste the same without the work!
Hi, I didn't notice so I ask, did you put water in the bowl before you put the cabbage in the microwave? I played it back, but sometimes I don't see what you do when walking away from the camera. Thanks D. PS: how will you use the rest of the cabbage? :)
+TT.Scraps We don't use mushrooms, although, I do love them and I may try that. We often use any tomato based item we have on hand for the sauce. Tomato juice, tomato sauce, ketcup, tomato soup or any combination of the above. Other than that, it's basically the same recipe.
Hi, thank you very much for your video. I love gołąbki and I didn't know how to make it. My mom just arrived from Poland and will make it tomorrow. We both watched your video because for the first time my mom will use a crock pot. We love your idea with microwave!!! It's a life and time saver. Are you Polish? This dish is from Poland so we are curious if you have some Polish roots? Best greetings from Dallas!
Thanks so much!!! I do not have Polish roots that I am aware of. Who knows though, they may be in there somewhere. :) Thanks so much for your kindness and I hope you enjoy this as much as I do! I need to make it again soon myself!
This looks absolutely amazing! And I think its awesome about the hubby not liking mushrooms, someone in my family doesn't either but I always cut them up fine and add them to my sketti sauce, ALSO we cut onions the same way =) I love your pepper shakers my grandparents used to have a set like that I believe from tupperware! Have a great Holiday Tammy and family!
+Rebecca McCune Thank you! :) YES! Those shakers were my grandmas! I love them and they are sentimental to me so I use them all the time! Tupperware - it lasts! :) I was wondering what to have for dinner.....sketti sounds delish! :) Happy Holidays to you and yours!
I am looking through your food videos and omg I love stuffed cabbage rolls but haven't had them in forever. I wonder how good this recipe would be in your instapot!
Yummy!! I havent made these yet but they look delish! I did the chicken pot pie tonight,so I'm thinking about making this next week when I go grocery shopping again,, If you were to freeze these for leftovers how would you recook them ? I love these recipes ❤
Thanks so much! I would probably put a little more sauce on them to freeze and maybe cook the cabbage a little less so that it would be less tender to start. Not raw, but still crisp. I would them wrap them well, freeze and I'd bake them on 350 for about an hour from frozen.
I don't eat the meat but when people make these, I love eating the cabbage! So delish! And being a cat person, I couldn't stop watching yours in the background!!
You could make a vegan version with a mushroom and flax filling. My daughter is a vegetarian too so I am always looking at recipes and figuring out a meat free option.
Cooking with Tammy. That is what went on yesterday. While watching you make stuffed cabbage, I was making meatloaf. I've never had stuffed cabbage and to be honest, I had never seen it made. Looks easy and I will have to give it a try. The hubs and I would like it anyway.
+Mandi McClure Oh, that's cool! It is really good and is even a bit like meatloaf wrapped in cabbage. Yum! Someone commented that she's going to put leftover corned beef in the cabbage leafs - that sounds delish too!!!
The easiest way i've found to core is a little at a time so you aren't sticking the knife in so far. Like taking a cone shape of the core a bit at a time.
I'm new to your channel these cabbage rolls looked delicious. Im going to make them Sunday for dinner with mash potatoes. Thanks for telling us about putting cabbage in microwave that was clevet.Usually I put in the boiling water.Buf I will definitely use the microwave. My name is Brenda and I'm from Chicago
stuffed cabbage per say would not go in my house. lol . my other half is a somewhat picky eater. however, i wrote this down so i can do a corned beef and cabbage roll with "st pat's day leftovers." that he would enjoy. i, however, want to know when next you are making these and what time i should be there. ;)
Never tried it as of yet in my Crock Pot,? always, either on the Stove top in a Pot.? or in the Oven,? In a Baking Pan.? Will be trying the Crock pot this week.? thanks for sharing.? TT
you should read up on microwaves and how bad they are for you! Honestly... we had no idea until we started researching it, and then my husband actually took our microwave and put it on the curb with the garbage!

I've never had enough left over to freeze, but I don't think the cabbage would hold up well, it would be like wilted frozen lettuce.
your mom's recipe sounds better i will try it since i do not like tomatoes:)

I did put a little water in the bowl. We love cabbage, but my favorite way to cook it is to roasted with olive oil and salt and pepper
My mother is of Slovak decent and these were always a staple in our house growing up. I still love making these (halupki) on Sunday. Yummy!

Thanks! :)
Mmmmmm those stuffed cabbage look so good ! tfs
+Lyze LeClerc Thank you!!! :)
guys I don't know how I missed it how long did she microwave the cabbage for?
12 minutes
When I make cabbage rolls with the extra meat I just roll up in oval shape balls and put in sauce because my kids don't like the cabbage
Perfect idea! :)
I use Peapod too
Very Yummy! I want to make this dish Mmmmmm
It really is yummy! :)
Doing the Head of Cabbage in the microwave,? Seems easier than boiling a big pot of water to do it with.? Your way looks great? Just steams them off.?
Where do you get that blue cup can't find it?
Glad you found it! :)
This is one of my most favorite foods! Have you tried making stuffed cabbage soup? Very yummy!
I have and I love it too!!! :)
Never tried it as of yet in my Crock Pot,? always, either on the Stove top in a Pot.? or in the Oven,? In a Baking Pan.? Will be trying the Crock pot this week.? thanks for sharing.? TT
Polish as I grew up Golabki.
Looks yummy I'll try this for dinner, but I must say your knife skills had me scared.
I found the website I just bought it.
:)
I couldn't see you roll the meat in the cabbage. The camera wasn't focused on you doing it. But I could hear you.
I couldn't find the recipe :(
I SUBBED !
YAY! Glad you are here!
you should read up on microwaves and how bad they are for you! Honestly... we had no idea until we started researching it, and then my husband actually took our microwave and put it on the curb with the garbage!
Okay, thank you! I really don't use my microwave much, but I may have to check out what the harm is! Appreciate you looking out!
My momma taught me a trick to get the core out fast. Bang it hard, yet steadily on the edge of the sink and it pops right out
YES!! :)
