    As a technician, shop manager, and 30+ year veteran of the industry, ive got to say ive never been more amazed at a "backyard trick" such as the "use a paint cap" trick. Just used your method to remove a set of a/c lines on my buddies Fox mustang. After trying 2 days (unsucessfully)I used yoyr paint cap trick and they were off in less than 10 minutes. Thank you for your contribution.

    THANK YOU! I’m stuck at home no transportation and some jerk stole my tool to do this but I know I have several rolls of teflon tape. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Anyone can do a video with the correct tool but it takes someone creative to find the work around.

    The spray can lid is almost ready-made for this. Though I've ordered a set of the white collar versions, I'm going to cut up a paint lid to try. Thanks.

    Mine was SUPER Finicky on a VW! The tool had to be removed before pulling the pipe or it wouldn't come! You have to push the spring and pull a little, that keeps the spring pressed. Then remove tool and the pipe will release. It would NOT come with the tool in place!!! And I was wrenching on it, pushing and pulling, twisting it round for ages! Dam. It came out so easy after I removed the tool! Live and learn. I failed with multiple home made tools. The good news it Amazon next day was a set for $6. All good now I hope. Lets get it re gassed and see.

    I hate these connections,i have almost every tool imaginable to take these off and everytime is a struggle, i have never used the little house looking ones (thats what i call them,lol) that you show as your "go to" so i think ill pick up a set sometime soon, i am replacing my entire A/C system and i was trying to get the big line from the evaporator and i just ended up cutting it, ran out of patience.

    Do you have to do anything before disconnecting the lines?

    • @You-Tube...005
      @You-Tube...005  4 роки тому +1

      Absolutely, do not attempt this if the system is under pressure. If you don't have ac gauges to check, you could carefully press the low side port Schrader valve to see if there is any pressure still in the system.
      Hope this helps.

    Can't get it to work with the tool im thinking i should bevel the tool some..seems it's just pushing the spring back not lifting it any..pissn me off! Probably better off just make my own lol. It's coming off i may have to buy a grenade!

  • @lanceyoung8808
    @lanceyoung8808 3 роки тому +2

    Not always that easy. I have one that I can not get the tool to push into the fitting. It's on a 2007 Fi150 with very little room to work next to the firewall. Another Ford design failure in my book.

    • @danielc9312
      @danielc9312 3 роки тому

      Same here with a 2009 F250. I have the tool and it still wont release.

    • @lanceyoung8808
      @lanceyoung8808 3 роки тому +2

      @@danielc9312 I had to work very hard and tried 3 different tools. I think what is happening is the spring is getting hung up by the tool and not expanding outwards correctly. When I finally got it off hours later, the spring fell out of the fitting easily. That tells me the spring was a little too small. I actually sprayed a bunch of lubricant (corrosionX) with help and a straw. Then worked it pipe back and forth while working the tool to get it to push in enough. I actually moved a little bit and then the tool worked in further before it came all the way off. Again, extremely hard and barely enough room to work. The most ridiculous line I have taken off.

    • @danielc9312
      @danielc9312 3 роки тому +1

      @@lanceyoung8808 I'm going to try to spray some wd 40 in there and see if that helps. I'll clean off the parts and I already have new o rings waiting for it anyways so it shouldn't do any harm.

    • @lanceyoung8808
      @lanceyoung8808 3 роки тому +2

      @@danielc9312 It should be fine. Try pushing in and pulling the tool into fitting. Might have to work it back and forth. Good luck! It's a pain.

    • @danielc9312
      @danielc9312 3 роки тому +1

      @@lanceyoung8808 As a matter of fact I just got it off a bit earlier after spraying it with the WD-40. That stupid line was blocking my spring compression tool to get the roller follower in on the exhaust valve on cylinder 4. Such a P.I.T.A. but its finally off thanks to your suggestion. The faster the truck gets done the faster we can leave California :)
