this song literally changed my life. I was 15 at the time. super religious. my brother's girlfriend brought this b side to our house, and my bro said "listen to Spark, it's so good!". So, I took the cd, fell in love with Purple People, and listened to it on repeat for days. I came out of the experience an entirely different person. I left my religion and turned toward music instead. Best spiritual decision I've ever made.
What a powerful message. Music is our own spiritual pathway that is WAY more complex and important than any doctrine! I agree... this song (and this version of this song) is otherworldly. Such an unusual, poetic beauty.
@@somethingtidal it’s so funny because I normally just ask Siri to play it but I suddenly felt compelled to search UA-cam ignoring my usual “Tori live” performances in favor of just “Tori Purple People” and immediately heard the first second as a completely different edit or even a different recording. Yes haunting indeed.
i love how this song and especially in combination with the album cover gives me a late november mood, everything seems infinitely more beautiful and dark when tori sings this
You're right, the "remaster" sounds more polished but it got rid of the drum brush or snare? idk anything about drums intro and it sucks compared to this. Now I understand why I got rid of A Piano so fast. I already had most of the singles + the extras were boring to me and kind of regret getting rid of the singles now.
I wish we could get an official release of this version. I was hoping we would get it on a potential Choirgirl 20th anniversary deluxe edition, but that obviously didn’t happen.
It still needs to happend, it does. I guess it is because her many fans are just not buying her music anymore. What, with what has happened to the music industry, the economy, and of course the culture and politics. Alot of her EWF are probably low on funds. Through all this though Tori has remained so creative, inspirational, and true to her self.
Well, hey, do you do judo when they surround you? A little mental yoga, will they disappear? It's grim but never dubious as motives go One thing she'll always promise, promise is a show Thunder wishes it could be the snow Wishes it could be as loved as she can be These gifts are here For her, for you, for me I watch me be this other thing and I never know If I'm marooned or where the purple people go Then lily white matricide from vicious words It doesn't leave a scratch, so therefore, no one's hurt Thunder wishes it could be the snow Wishes it could be as loved as she can be These gifts are here For her, for you, for me And on and on, the nurses make it clear Just when you escape, you have yourself to fear A restaurant that never has to close Breakfast at every hour, it could save the world So, hey, do you do judo in your finery? An angel's face is tricky to wear constantly Thunder wishes it could be the snow Wishes it could be as loved as she can be These gifts are here For her, for you, for me La, da-yah, ha-la, ah-yeah For her, for her, mhm
It’s an absolute travesty that this version isn’t available on streaming. I mean, I *have* the original Spark single, but try making a “Best of Tori” playlist for somebody new without this song. Ugh
it was a misprint on the cd single - this song is just 'purple people.' listen to her version of 'have yourself a merry little christmas,' which was the following track on the single. that's the one that was *supposed* to have "(christmas in space)" appended to it.
@@justinsomething i just learned this myself today! Actually it was supposed to be titled "Christmas in Space (Have yourself a merry little Christmas)"
Absolutely f***ing criminal that this (the original) version is not available anywhere official. Try making a “Best of Tori” Spotify playlist for a newcomer friend without this! Pfft

@@neilstoodley3377 this version is particularly haunting, when that piano line comes in, it's like a warm, velvet blanket. Pure heaven.

Was about 15 too. This song is so melancholic. Somehow it provides a lift or something hard to ex0ain. It stands alone.
Probably my favourite Tori b-side. Best version of this song!
this is in my opinion the best version of this song. it's one of my favorites from Tori if not my very favorite.
Agree💯

Oh this song... goddamn this song always makes me cry. So fucking beautiful.
It’s like a velvet , non alcoholic fancy cocktail of a hug.
Wonderfully descriptive critique, and so very true.
@@lyricalalchemist4091 thank you. Yes very sobering . for some reason this song is like “anorexia” eating to me. 🌺🌹🐚🪺🌱

This beautiful song from Tori saved my life. A wonderful tribute to Tricky!

Tori said in an interview recently that the plan is to do a 25th anniversary edition of Choirgirl, so here's hoping! 🤞🤞🤞
unfortunately that didnt happen either 😕 maybe we'll get a reissue soon
Thanks brother love this song ever since I first heard it on her NPR special
Thanks
Absolute banger
