      Wasn't ninjutsu a type of martial arts that samurai could partake in? As in, anyone could learn to become a ninja by partaking in ninjutsu. But being a samurai was more of a rank as a soldier.

      I'm not gonna argue with you on that, cause you're probably right and I haven't looked into real history on it, however there have been instances of pop culture where a shogun or someone else of equal power has had Ninja on the payroll to assassinate ppl, so I can understand it causing confusion.

    • @kenpachinopein3954
      @kenpachinopein3954 3 роки тому +6

      Ninja were absolutely not rebels. They typically worked for whoever was paying them which is basically the opposite. They were spies and influencers first and foremost. Some did assassination missions. Jessica is absolutely correct on ninja. It was quite common for samurai to be ninja. "Ninja" isn't even the proper term for them. It's shinobinomono or simply shinobi. The idea of ninja you are referring to is just based on stories people made up to amuse others. But even many Japanese people believe this stuff so I understand why you do too. Also, samurai didn't really live in castles either. They were just a noble class that followed a lord and a code, similar to knights. Castles were typically used for defense, not as residences.

      Correct me if I’m wrong but the Trojan horse predates Rome. The only link there is the fact that the Roman founder had some Trojan ancestors. I think it was just a misconception that it happened in Rome because the word was on the board and they were trying to think of any links

      @@simoneingleson4280 Yes. The Trojan horse was several centuries before the founding of Rome. But the two are linked in Mythology through Aeneas and through 'common knowledge' through both being ancient societies and that's the crux of this game. @@simoneingleson4280 No, I completely agree. I'm sorry if my comment came of more adversarial than I intended it. Yes it predates Rome and No it did not happen in what was then Rome or what would later be founded as Rome. Can't Count - Spymasters can't give numbers for their clues, and must mark their clues with a random number, their teammates knowing it means nothing. You'll likely want to make a uniform number throughout the game, i.e. mark all clues with 1.

    Amateur opinion (jiu jitsu brown belt) so take it with a grain of salt: Ninja are definitely Japanese, however they are NOT connected to the word castle. On the contrary, ninjas were farmers who were secretly trained in martial arts to defeat bandits and even samurai (from the castles) they disagreed with. Their techniques consisted of mostly "he atttacks with a sword, preferably from horseback, how do I defend against these specific attacks". As such, they learned very basic techniques which mostly consisted of avoiding a blow delivered by a sword (katana) either by foot or on horseback and countering it with either your hands or tools provided to farmers (eg hammers, knives or even stones).

    • @lightshadows1300

      Also, Chilled flipping about some dude with elephants surprise attacking another country, definitely ain't Alexander the Great sieging most of Asia but most likely refers to Hannibal (An African) attacking Rome and actually nearly succeeding

      Additionally, the modern depiction of ninjas as wearing all black is actually stagehand outfits. People dressed in all black would move things around to generate "special effects", and the audience was supposed to pretend nothing was there --- so when one of these suddenly pulled a knife and killed someone, it was a big surprise!

      A small clarifier: while there were ninja who were solely rebellious farmers, there were also professional ninja for a while in Japanese history, consisting of (essentially) scouts and saboteurs. They are famed IN Japanese history for several assaults on castles where they destroyed infrastructure ahead of the battle or acquired valuable intel on enemy positions.
      So it's a mixed bag: they never HAD castles, as was suggesting, but they were associated with them. Indeed, the modern Ninja museum in Japan is in a restored castle from the period.

      To answer your point about BBQs: there are actually multiple groups and regions that would object to classifying burgers or hot dogs as barbecue: to those groups, those are "cook-out" or "grilled" foods.
      Technically, "barbecue" refers to "meat, cooked in smoke, over low heat, for an extended period of time, until the connective tissues break down, and the smoke flavors the meat". It ALSO refers to "a smoker, pit, or grill, in which one can or does make barbecue" AND "an event at which barbecue (or foods prepared on a barbecue) are served". And that parenthetical is a detail people argue about: to some people, if actual 'barbecue' is not served at the event, it is a "cookout", 'get-together', or other phrase. While others say "eh, we cooked it on the grill, which we also call a barbecue, so it's a barbecue." So to one group, Burgers and Hot Dogs are the epitome of barbecue food (as you note), while to others, they're perfectly good foods, they're just not barbecue. They might be SERVED at a Barbecue (since, you know, if you just used a grill to make Brisket, you can crank the heat up and grills some burgers while it rests), but they're not 'real barbecue.'
      It's a very weird and messy little issue in American linguistics, with different standards for what counts as what. (Typically, the distinction is maintained more rigorously by Southerners, and/or Black communities.) And of course, it's not something most people THINK all that hard about, so it's likely Shubble just vaguely knew that burgers aren't "really" BBQ , but she wouldn't be able to explain why.

    Not gonna lie, that constant demand there's no chalk used on soccer fields got me feeling pain with how frustrating that is haha. YES SOCCER FIELDS USE CHALK TO OUTLINE THE FIELD AND THE GOAL AREAS. Maybe not in a pro setting, but they absolutely do ALL THE TIME at the civic levels as well as on school fields. It's ALWAYS chalk, and I've never encountered once without it being chalk outlines. Actually, I LOVE running that chalk through my fingers whenever I'm around it lol. I guess it's super frustrating for me because of how adamant D4 was against it being a thing. He also made some REALLY stupid comments that blew me away for how stupid they were in this one too haha. Still a fun session to watch!
