This whole concert is a trip. Incredible and it’s super crazy. Live at the Ritz. The whole thing is amazing, there’s people running on stage, the band going wild, everything is just pure crazy rock n roll. This is them on their ascension to being the biggest band in the world. It’s def worth a watch.
The really lousy thing is how Axl Rose can't hit some of the notes anymore. I mean I still love these guys and if you were around to hear them, you're very lucky.
Axl also talked about his other experiences in the city. He got picked up by some random guy when he had no money, he paid for a motel for them to stay in. He woke up to the guy trying to assault him, so Axl pinned him against the wall and grabbed a beard razor to defend himself. Sounds like a jungle to me 😂
I have heard Axl allegedly sold himself to men as he had pretty much nothing in the beginning. I wonder if this story is one of those incidents but then the guy actually tried to rape him. I mean why would he follow a random man to his hotel room, that's so dangerous. Not sure if true and just a rumour I heard recently, but I wouldn't judge even if true, happens to many who have been assaulted as children. Anyway city life can be very dark and dangerous and specially if you come from a different world you're just trying to get by, easy to end up doing things you shouldn't, drugs, meet criminals and dangerous people. And just get caught up by all the parties. So makes sence someone tried to warn him.
Slash is camera shy and said that he can't look out at a crowd for more than a few seconds while performing on stage hence why he has his hair in his face and wears shades all the time. Most of the songs by GNR are based on true events that happened and you'll be surprised by the inspiration behind them and one in particular is Rocket Queen as they are certain noises in that song which have one hell of a story behind them LOL
Awesome reaction :) The song's inspiration is indeed from a true story. Axl (lead singer) has told this story on multiple occasions during GnR concerts. Also yes, it was in L.A. good call on that one. I am hoping that if Axl ever writes a book, he may tell more about it, or at least in more accurate details about when/ where it had happened. Some of GnR's other songs are based on true stories, which adds to the vibe of their music, although not all their songs have true stories backgrounds. I love GnR.
At the beginning, the band performed slash shows, stealing a belt and a top hat, then combining the two and wearing them as accessories, now it has become their trademark.
I didn't know there WAS a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders thing on Netflix. Wow. They were so popular back when I was a kid, because the Dallas Cowboys and Rodger Staubach were totally dominant, and then I think they were the first or one of the first teams to really put a real emphasis on their cheerleading team, and then they just exploded in popularity. I think it kind of set the tone for a lot of things to follow.
I would check out some of GNR live in 1992. The energy from those are awesome! Coma live in Chicago 1992, the garden live in Saskatoon 1993 (exception), pretty much all the major songs live in Tokyo 1992, Mr brownstone rock in rio 1991 (exception), knockin on heavens door live in Argentina 1992, and slashes blues solos in Tokyo / Argentina.
Maddy in 2024 listening to a song released in 1987 and asking questions as if it is 1987. Here ChatGPT's answer to your Slash question: "Slash, the guitarist of Guns N' Roses, often covered his face with his hair as part of his iconic stage persona. He has mentioned in interviews that it helped him manage his stage fright and maintain a sense of mystery. His trademark look, with a top hat and long curly hair obscuring his face, became a signature style that also added to the rock star mystique."
Cool fact: Slash's mum, the model Ola Hudson, dated David Bowie when Slash was a kid, and designed some of the threads the Thin White Duke wore on stage and in The Man Who Fell To Earth.
Grew up there. Rough at times but loved it there. Was also there during the Rodney King Riots. So much happened there. I was drummer in a rock band and obviously never made it but had a blast seeing all these bands getting out there.
I believe it's a true story... W. Axl Rose (vocals) grew up in Indiana where he was raised in a broken home marred by religious & physical oppression and sexual abuse... As a teen, he was always being arrested by cops and spending time in juvenile detention... At some point, he decided to leave home permanently (to escape Indiana law enforcement) and make his way to Los Angeles - his friend Jeff Isbell (Guns N' Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin) left months earlier to become a rock star in a band, so Axl decided to join him. Axl's first impression upon arriving in L.A. was a homeless guy yelling at him, "U in the jungle, baby! U gonna die!" It took Axl a month to find Izzy because he had no idea how big L.A. was... they formed the band Hollywood Rose and were active until 1985... Axl and Izzy joined another band L.A. Guns w/ guitarist Tracii Guns and suggested they change the name to Guns N' Roses... (Axl told Tracii, "You be the Guns, I'll be the Roses...") ... Months later, Axl fired Tracii Guns and wanted Slash on lead guitar in GNR (Axl had met Slash when he was in Hollywood Rose) Years after his initial experience, Axl Rose wrote the lyrics to 'Welcome to the jungle' recalling that incident coming to Los Angeles to a riff that Slash (lead guitar) had written. A lot of the lyrics to Guns N' Roses debut album 'Appetite for destruction' were based on real-life... "Nightrain" was inspired by a brand of cheap wine apparently... 'Out ta get me' was about Axl's run-ins w/ police in Indiana... "Mr. Brownstone" was about Slash using he+++n... 'Rocket queen' was about their young groupies... "My Michelle" was about Axl's ex-GF Michelle Young ... "Sweet child O' mine" was Axl's love letter to then-girlfriend Erin Everly... etc. Guns N' Roses lead guitarist Slash (real name Saul Hudson) was a very shy fellow... Apparently, he would let his hair hang over his face to avoid making eye contact w/ people... Lately, he seems to have a lot more confidence as a solo artist if u see him in live performances but he still wears shades while playing onstage because of his shyness (I'm guessing)... In the early days of Guns N' Roses, he was always drinking Jack Daniels straight up and could barely stand during the band's photo shoots (someone had to hold him up from behind)... Band insiders recalled that Slash was so dedicated to playing guitar on stage that he would throw up behind the amps and come out still playing guitar. Even when Guns N' Roses were inactive and Slash had been fired in 1996, the guitarist still worked on music in spite of his various addictions and personal problems... He recorded 2 Slash's Snakepit albums in the 90's... 2 albums by Velvet Revolver in the 2000's... and his own solo career as Slash (w/ Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators) w/ 5 albums and 1 solo record w/ various singers.

That's why he has hair like that

“You can have anything you want but you better not take it from me” that’s my favorite line from this song. 🫶🏽
It really encapsulates not only LA culture at the time, but USA yuppie “Me generation” culture as well.
