This is scary, is this some kind of training? Yeah, not sure I want to blackout in the ocean, I don’t care how many safety divers are aroumd me.

If blacking out in the ocean is a possibility, I'd rather do it in a controlled environment

Over 5000 people die every year free diving. Best of luck.

Honestly you can't tell me that there is no long term brain damage to people that go through this. I'm convinced that we'll look back on freediving in 20 years and shake our heads how reckless we were with our health. I kind of stopped believing in freediving as a competitive sport in the last years..

But with the same logic, we can assume that scrolling news feeds kill brain cells. At the current moment, there is no evidence that shows that breath hilding negatively affects the brain. Even when the freediver gets black out, the cerebral circulation is not stopping.
However, my teaching philosophy is that we should avoid BO by all means

Really can I ask why? I've been interested in it for a long time and thinking about getting into it, what should I know about it that I don't. No sarcasm

Combat sports or even american football have probably a lot more brain damage than freediving. But we'll need research to know.

@user-wg9pk5cl2w your question is key! Keep asking it every year and explore the sport with care 💙
