It almost looks unreal, what a striking piece of engineering.

As always an evocative and beautiful film. I wish it was like that now, we could go back and see it all again ....

A wonderful film, thank you for sharing that. I grew up not far from there and as a young lad, I remember the trains. Wonderful piece of engineering we all took for granted, lost forever.

Never take this video down..... They are all that remains of a greatness that was lost which has yet to be realised. With every passing year the roads become ever more and more expensive and harmful to the environment. These railways were thought unnecessary and uneconomical, yet only a few years later we need them now more than ever. Damn you Mr Beechimg how short sighted were you!

The politician behind the closures was Marples, his family were road builders!

How I remember crossing at regulation 5mph with 4169 and 8104 from Neath passengers train 60 years ago, I was 20 years old fireman.

What a wonderful example of Victorian confidence and engineering capability when this viaduct was built between 1853 and 1857. I was fortunate to have crossed the viaduct on a number of occasions, the first time when I was only two years old! The tender locomotive shown two-thirds of the way through is probably a Grange. I used to go to Mountain Ash Grammar School and the Vale of Neath line ran along one side of the school and I used to watch the trains going past.

A beautiful piece of engineering, captured and edited perfectly in this piece. That shot of the tender-engine crossing with the passenger train was particularly stirring, with the golden lighting and picture-perfect crispness of the steam!

I remember the viaduct as if it was only last seen yesterday. Sadly, I can remember its destruction. 😢😢😢

I used to catch a train from the Hafod over the viaduct to Treowen for 1 old penny. Number of times we used to walk across the Viaduct via the catwalk. Never saw the danger after all only 11 at the time

Wonderful footage, I always wonder whether the report which stated the viaduct would need extensive restoration and maintenance and recommended its demolition was influenced by certain parties who would benefit from its demolition

Hi there, this video is fascinating. I am with a Welsh TV channel and we're looking at revisiting memories of the Crumlin Viaduct, would the person behind this channel be so kind to comment with an email please?
If you have any fond memories of the viaduct you'd like to share, please comment below. Many thanks - Jess

This structure should have been preserved as a listed monument - even if trains were no longer using it. It would have been perfect to walk/cycle over. It is criminal that the powers that be have just been allowed to demolish it.

Surreal. Maybe the tender loco was running late?

Fantastic video of a unique part of British railway history! :D
I was just wondering, would it be possible for me to use this footage, as well as a few other videos you have on your channel, as part of an upcoming documentary I'm creating about the history of the Crumlin Viaduct?
I will provide you will full accreditation and send you a link to the video before it's release so you can review the use of your footage.
