There was absolutely nothing rude about what Jim did and he most certainly doesn't need Pam's permission to take a call from his workplace. Pam is outrageously rude, mediocre and frankly bogging him down.

Instead, he had to concede setting paper in a dead end job because she neither had the fortitude to survive on her own nor had aspirations of her own. Pam is a child who constantly needed her hand to be held. What Jim ever saw in her is an absolute mystery. Frankly, he could have done far better.
Jim was at fault for taking huge life decisions without consulting with Pam, or thinking of how its gonna affect her. Pam was also too agreeable and didn't stand up to Jim when he took those decisions, and went along with it half heartedly until things started getting sour for her. But her refusal to move to Phily was not fair. Sure she loved her job and life in Scranton, but Jim hated it there. But she put an end to their growth unilaterally. It was not just fear of change, but also she was kind of punishing Jim for making her life difficult. She failed to see that Jim was doing it not just for himself, but for the family. Obviously, it was the better choice for the whole family, but Pam was a bit selfish there. Jim should have also made sure that Pam was on board before making long term plans, including migration.
Everytime i see this shows is always the woman who have to adapt to the man. How is Pam selfish? She took care of the house and their kids all by herself, beside having a job, while Jim was away. Now she is selfish for not wanting to adapt all her life for Jim? Stfu.

As dumb as Michael's ideas were, he knew to take action when is needed.
