My dad was a cop. My uncle was a cop. All the buddies that came over for weekend BBQs were cops. I decided I wanted to be a lawyer. From every perspective, the investigation was beyond flawed. I really hate having to tell people that the police lie. A lot. So many families put all their faith in the police and if the police say they’ve got the perp, the family is all in. It makes me livid! Victims deserve justice and just handing them *anyone* is not the answer!
It is completely understandable for the family to be biased toward the suspect that the Prosecutor "delivers" to them as the person responsible. I believe that I would have tunnel vision myself, discounting obvious flaws in the case just for my sibling's death to be avenged. I would imagine that it would take quite some time and exposure to others' assessment of the case to consider that the police had gotten it wrong...and perhaps worse.
Unrated message!! No one wants to believe that the police lie, let alone would do something so horrendous to one of their own and frame a professional working woman. Much easier to be a sheep and believe the police only protect and serve us. It's terrifying to think that any of us could be Karen Read or John O'Keefe's grieving family.

@@mick8888V Oh believe me, I am not at all surprised by that reaction. I just find it incredibly sad. I grew up being told the police are the good guys and only want to help people. I was told they put in their top effort to investigate crimes so that the court can give the family justice. It was a rude wake-up call when I learned that wasn’t always the reality. It’s always heartbreaking (and angering) to me when I see the police fail because it ends up being devastating for the victims.

Which is why false confessions happen and we need evidence to corroborate them. Like a plausible accident reconstruction...

They also wrote a letter to the AG (when asked to stop their investigation) saying that their investigation showed a different story than Morrissey was pushing and they politely declined the request (September or October of 2023). They've received more evidence as late as February of this year. The FBI also hired the defense reconstruction experts.

Sadly I think the family is so desperate to blame someone they are willfully ignoring reality. I'm sure they never liked Karen so it made it easier to feel like she was responsible, whereas they are friends with the other people that were there. She might have seemed callous when he initially died, but people respond to grief differently. She may have even felt guilty because she dropped him off and the last thing they did was fight / she was thinking negative thoughts (that he was out cheating) as he was dying. You can't deny all the shady things. Like how do you ignore the changes in testimony from those witnesses, the horrible police investigation, the lack of timely reports, the science, all of it? And yeah smirking is petty and childish (if true) but "if" she is innocent she is probably mad at everyone out there accusing her and felt a little vindicated with the verdict. Brian and Brian destroyong their cell phones, Karen sauong i hit him, the last two witnesses wno were fabulous said he wasnt hit by a car, Karens lawyer in Stoughton court saying it was an accident. Proctors txt which i think should have been read but i dont think he needs to be the fall guy for the whole trial, doesnt need to be fired, somethimg lesser shoukd do, after all his boss did nothing about it. That actually is illegal, and if she doesn't end up getting convicted she can sue him for defamation. Understandably, this is a man looking for someone to blame for the death of his brother. Just because Karen and John were fighting and they may be close to ending their relationship, doesn't mean she killed him with her car. The ME said that there was no conclusive evidence to prove the victim was hit by a car, therefore, there is no way to prove this case.
I am deeply sorry for this man's loss, but his loss doesn't give him the right to assume Karen killed John. I think the prosecution should be ashamed of themselves for their botched investigation, and owe the victim's family an apology. But I truly believe there was no strong evidence to prove the prosecution's case.

I had to stop watching at 6:12 when she gave her opinion stating that was strange behavior on Karen Read's part. How unprofessional. With that being said, my heart does break for the O'Keefe family. I did watch the entire trial with an open mind. I did come to the conclusion and agreed with defense's two reconstructionist experts stating there was no way, scientifically that Ms. Read's SUV hit John O'Keefe's body and that the injuries on his arm were due to dog bites.
