  • Step by step walking you through how i rebuild a landcruiser diff using the best ‘off the shelf’ parts and then bolt them into my fj45! Hope this video might help some people get a better understanding around diff centres there is a reason specialists exist for this kind of job but doesn't mean you cant have a crack yourself!

    At this point in time, most of us watching are probably guys or girls who’ve grown up and are done with clickbait UA-cam, and clickbait automotive channels also. To see a down to earth bloke make an informative yet entertaining video with a genuine personality will always have my attention. You, Timmy, Macca. Providing what the people want.

    Great video, only thing I wanted to add is when you putting the flange on the pinion, never strike it with a hammer, as you will dig the edge of the rollers in the bearing into the race and cause micro marks, sometimes small dents.. which then transfer to rollers and causes a pattern around bearing and noise. You might get away with it but if you inspect races you’ll see what I mean.. and you can feel it while turning by hand. Massive respect for showing a whole video of doing this process 👌🏻

    I just rebuilt the rear of my 105 with an elocker and solid spacer bearing kit from terrain tamer so the process is fresh with me. I watched every video I could find online and went into a few local shops to me which gave me the best pointers that the videos didn’t. Your video made the process way more simple than what it actually is. I’m surprised you set all the pinion with seals etc. without knowing the correct pinion depth. did you not film that part? many people will say to not use shims with the solid spacer and im sure many would argue thats fine however given the title of the video I thought maybe you’d shim the outer pinion bearing closer to the spacer so you didn’t need the shim because that could only be a stronger way to do it. What stops the carrier bearing rotating on the locker? Plenty of guys would say to knurl that surface. Preloading those carrier bearing adjuster caps with screwdrivers is a first. Anyone who thinks this video is detailed should keep watching, lots of important info left out. Nevertheless, like watching your vids, keep em coming

    • @Unclepooly
      @Unclepooly  6 місяців тому

      Hey mate thanks for your comment and i agree with all of it quite a few things i left out of the video it wasn’t meant to be a tutorial as stated im not an diff specialist but i just wanted to share my experience and explain in a way that i would have liked it explained to me as for pinion depth i had just built two other diffs both re-using the depth washer from the existing pinions and the depth was correct so i took a gamble with this one and installed the seal and it was all correct as expected. for the solid spacer shim i didn’t need it anyway just showed using it for the purpose of the video, i undone everything in the video and pulled it back out but id happily put it where i did put it if needed, it can’t be installed elsewhere to shim the bearing preload it has to go there and i can’t see it affecting strength once all done up tight eliminating the crush factor of the crush tube is the main thing for me
      As for carrier bearings, brand new locker brand new bearing i had to use a press to install it the bearing fit was tight i can see why you would knurl it though i guess thats the difference between a diff specialist and me!

    Uncle pooly this has to be the best diff video i have ever watched on youtube, also you if we had a opinion on why the old diff exploded. i’m a 3rd diesel mechanic down in dandy and we had a newish freightliner come in with 60,000 k’s on the clock, boys down at the frieghtliner factory left the crown wheel bolts loose exactly like that one, 2 came out and ran through everything exactly like that and the rest either snapped or bent. also found that the preload was out on the pinion and they bent the shims somehow. sorry for the word vomit, keep up the great vids please mate 🤙
