As a Design and Technology teacher this is an outstanding video. Going through the research and thought behind your design. The CAD modelling and planning around material usage. The construction processes and systems. Showing mistakes and how you overcame them. Finally going back over your initial design and critiquing final product and what changes could have been made. A+. I’ll be showing this to my senior students that’s for sure. Keep up the great content.
I am a PD&T teacher as well, what a great vid! You are so right Josh. Thank you D&B for sharing and I will use this as well, it is very relevant to my students who are building their own 4x4 rigs.
I salute your design process. I always survey the "prior art" as they say in the patent office, and take away the best ideas of every design. Then my design automatically becomes superior to each of those. The best of the best I call it. Nice welds. I'm surprised at the heavy gloves, but you still feed filler wire like a champ, so they are not hindering you.
@@DesignedandBuilt not really, we only struggled one time when we were parked in shade for a few days without starting the truck up. We only had 200ah lithium but over 1kw of solar. I wish we had more battery capacity but at the time that’s all the budget would allow.

INCREDIBLE engineering, thoughtfulness, and BUILD out. Me: I'm a dinosaur/67....still use my Coleman dbl. burner, from the 70's. Works like a charm!! I can buy fuel anywhere- and even attach to my 5gl. tank....which also powers a Heater, inside or out. So that's why I DIDN'T go for a conventional/permanent "stove"....no matter the type/fuel. I wanted max. flexibility, cheap/easy, and NOT a kitchen. (which eats up real estate) Your rig is KILLER!; well done mate!
Managed to stumble across you ep 1 of the barra build, so already knew you were talented, but song selection and video quality has gone up massively haha, good work
This is great! It's funny though I built my camp kitchens and tables for my van ( not slide out deaigned to be set up away from the vehicle) and love spending time setting them up at camp. But I also love these quick pull out set ups. Love your work
Your split lid storage space, if you look carefully I believe there might be some automotive weather stripping for car doors or windows that might fit, possibly for a smaller car model. So, I'd look for some spare sedan weather stripping and you may able to put a bar in the middle, fit the stripping on that and it will spill proof it but still give you the accessibility you designed it for. Just a thought.
Awesome build, it came out looking really good and suits the goals you had in mind. Curious to know what program you're using to go from the 3D model to the flattened dxf?
I was wondering how you use a magnet on alu? a piece of steel on the back of the vertical piece? and assuming the table is steel. The mag will suction through the 3mm alu?
Noticed at 9:23 you started the cuts on the outside of the profile, if in future you sell these kitchens might want to start cut in profile to cut out. Just something I noticed.
Looks great mate, enjoying the content as usual. What have you done for a cutting/prep surface? Hard to tell width of the pantry, but a slide out table from the bottom to match the cooker would have fit nicely
Thank you! so either I put a cutting board on the induction or the lids. Unfortunately the pantry is only 300 mm wide. Would like some more table space, I was thinking of getting the lids to fold back and double as a food prep surface.
Should have mentioned, love you design though....hindsight is wonderful....would have been awesome to see before my build, would definitely have changed a few things.
Holy mackerel I hope you have a massive power house to run that cooker I run the single version with 310ah lifpo4 1500w inverter with 620w solar and still struggle to keep up with it
Do you normally camp up in the same spot for a few nights? I only have 220 at the moment and a 50 A DC charger, I would change a lot of things though. I don't stay around in the same spot for more than a night.
Does the stove have some sort of safety switch? Would hate it to turn on without it being asked to and starting a fire. Looks like a good set up. Nothing worse then complicated set ups.
It would need to have a ferrous metal (pan) on it to activate the circuit for cooking, the surrounding aluminium wouldn’t conduct, & you probably wouldn’t have the inverter turned on while travelling anyhow, so it should be fairly safe.
Excellent job, do you have any issues with recharging after a big night cook? I like the idea of the double induction top, but I’m trying out a single for now with a dual fuel stove as backup until I am sure I can recharge my 2 x 200A lithiums ok, I might try taking along a 2nd single soon & see how that goes. I am just fitting out my canopy atm with a 3000W inverter & 400A lithium to run it, this would be a fantastic setup to have. My 2nd watch of this vid, love ur work. Cheers
Hey bro looking at getting into using CAD to help with my builds. What CAD system are you using or any recommendations for someone who has no idea what they’re getting into. Loving your builds man keep up the mint work.
Induction means the plate is cool to touch - the heat is transferred to the pot. That’s why they are safer in homes with kids too as they automatically shut off when pot is lifted off. I would presume immediately can be stowed. Anyone know how to turn off all the bleep beepings on induction? It drives me crazy at home I would not want to disturb other campers with all those beeping sounds.
The induction set-up looks to be the way of the future....but the 12V system to run your unit would have been expensive.....definitely has it's pro's over the gas....but the price will be a big one for many. There is also some space and weight issues to take into account, even with lithium.
Hey tell your shy boy he's good looking and don't have to be camera shy! Bang up Job ! Hey when you use the key/tab method for welding is there a software feature or do you add it by hand?
