The synth-banjo/fiddle melody that underpins the whole thing is just a demo track on some cheap Casio keyboard (we had one at my secondary school). The boys must've found it funny and decided to compose this novelty track around it. Also, Alex's "Well you know, you've grown up and I obviously haven't" at 02:28 is almost certainly a paraphrase of John Lennon from his infamous interview with Gloria Emerson.
I live in the US South, and I'm absolutely certain: We (Southerners) are probably the biggest stereotype in the world. Not only does the rest of the world make fun of us(especially Europe), but the rest of the U.S. makes fun of us. Hell, WE MAKE FUN OF OURSELVES!!! (Though I think it's needless to say that we're not all like that :)
Yep, Graham's doing most of the singing (believe it or not) and Alex is the one chipping in with all the genius comments. I've got every Beatles record. XD
It's definitely graham, cuz if you listen to the take 1 version that's on the web, graham stops in the middle a couple times, and in the end, he yells that he didn't do the waitress part yet in his actual voice.
Me too haha, oh and the guy talking is Alex. You can hear him talking at the start. Graham is backing him up. 'lex has a much deeper voice than Graham, he's talking at 1:56 guys :)
@FlyingMango94 So true. I can't tell you how many Americans sound like a cracked-out John Cleese following mouth surgery, while attempting the all-inclusive, dialect-sweeping "British" accent.
If you haven't heard an American say "Don't yah know" before than clearly you have never been to the upper midwest. It's a Northern Minnesota/Wisconsin thing, and it is spoken all the time. Just watch the movie Fargo.
What? No Graham is the main person talking (you can tell when he says certain things- like "die") and at 1:56 it's Alex. Unless that's what you're already saying haha I might've read your comment wrong
@MeLittleAbbey Oh, I've been there. Niagara is beautiful. I love Canada, but the US really does have a lot of nice places (and people). Hope you will come back and explore it more someday!
omfg this is HILARIOUS!!! The lyrics and their voices and omg. Fuckin' hilarious!! Whose voice is who, though? I know Graham is the main singer, but who is the one prodding him on in the background? Damon?
+theuniversal123 whilst it is difficult for me to know for sure who the lead vocalist is (not sure if the sleeve of End of a Century shows it), doesn't someone - perhaps Alex - say "Graham you will never die" in answer to the vocalist? 0:58
@MyDomonation Where in the US were you? It's a pretty huge country and maybe if you had driven around a bit you would have seen more of it and noticed that not everyone is like that! It's just a silly song : )
the collective smoker's lung cough at the beginning is truly the cherry on top of the whole song
i would sell my soul to see them play this live
This is why I love Graham Coxon.
I still can't believe this is Graham singing with an American accent. XD
I can't believe that's Graham. O_O I also wouldn't believe it if it were any of them.
Graham you will never die
Graham says"Graham you are never gonna die"hahahahaha
Alex says that.
I'm a fan of blur (who happens to be a yank), and I love this! It's good to hear some fun being prodded at us!
I don't think it's prodding fun at all of you, just the type who might support your new president.
as opposed to supporting a ruthless criminal like Clinton?

Most hated and most desired? Those are contradictions. This is why America will fall. Cya.

This is Blur at their sneering worst. Dreadful..
Still one of their best. Hey, at least it’s funny.
