Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better. - Навчання та стиль

What’s the flannel you’re wearing in this video, it looks like a really high quality item
My advice to anyone who wants a pair of boots now but can't afford them is wait. Save up instead of buying a pair and being disappointed. You will be so much happier when you get that pair you really wanted. I wanted some Iron Rangers for years but didn't want to dish out 300 plus dollars. I finally made some side money and got a pair. I'm so glad I did. They are absolutely amazing boots and they just get better by the month. Save up and get the ones you want.
Well, to be fair, it isn't as if you have a choice if, for example, winter is coming and your current boots are shot, to just go barefoot for another couple of months.
But I get it. You get what you pay for, and you should get the right tool for the job. So if, for example, you need good work boots, don't bother with a casual boot as it will fall apart sooner rather than later.
If you have insurance you can get boots or shoes from an orthotic store. These cost several $100s. And the insole is usually custom.
@@asadb1990 and maybe in ee-eee width too!
I paid the equivalent of $700 USD to a local bootbaker to make me a custom pair. Best thing I ever did, so worth it. I picked chromexcel exterior, kangaroo interior, veg tan inner soles, and Daynite soles. Goodyear welt, old Czech army design. Doesn't get any better IMO, and the feeling of having a boot designed exactly to your foot dimensions is something you have to experience at least once in your life. The guy actually created a last that was exactly the shape of my foot, by gluing strips of leather on an existing last. And then he made an cheap boot on it and called me in for a fitting, then threw the cheap boot away, and then started on the actual boots. Fkn amazing that's all I have to say.
thats nice dear
Oh wow no way! That's cool, where could I go for that??
@@sbentsen2714 Any bootmaker in your area... I'm in Melbourne, Australia :)
awesome, thanks mate :-)@@SP-nx8qx
You should make a video about them !!!!
Thanks for the shout out Carl! We getting some great feedback on our Vellie since your last video. A great watch too and a handy video for those on the look out for boots
I love seeing a real comment from a brand in a UA-cam comments section! Awesome stuff. I'm debating between the Razorback and the Monster Waterproof, but I'm sure I'll be happy either way!
These look awesome! Have to check them out
@@DrRolexPhD always a pleasure watching and learning from these videos, being tucked away in South Africa for many years it is interesting seeing other international brands and what they about.
As for our Monster vs Razorback they both great boots but if waterproofing is not a necessity then our Razorback is a very versatile option and does keep water out to some extend depending on how the leather is treated.
Drop us an email if you have further questions?
@@stephenathon Thanks for the kind words! We have been around for 30 years in South Africa but only 2 years in the US, Carl was one of the first chaps to put our boots to the test that side.
i was wondering, is the rambler the same costruction as the vellie, just a different shape? and do you ship to germany?
best wishes
I love that caveat at the end, Carl. Sometimes we get caught-up in the items themselves (watches are my drug of choice, but I love my boots too) and we forget that the real value comes from the life we live WITH those products.
Amazing video as usual, you've been a UA-cam inspiration for me for a long time. Keep up the great work, and enjoy that Oris Aquis 😉
Thank you sir!
It’s a sentiment which I feel is important to repeat periodically. It’s not the things we own, but what we do with them!
@@CarlMurawski Amen brother.
Viberg work boots are impressive from a structural perspective. They come in whatever color you like as long as it’s black :) They don’t however offer the same character or flash as their Pacific North West equivalents do. Heavy on the function over form so maybe not pretty but the quality of materials and construction are impressive.
Thank you for everything you do Carl. I’m a tin knocker by trade and I love my boots. I just purchased my nail shank 2 today and I feel great!!! Gabbard is a true craftsman and I love his boots. Thanks again for everything you do it has helped me immensely!!! Take care buddy.
For the ultra affordable sub-$100 mark I was a big fan of my boots from Warfield and Grand. Definitely a great gateway boot
Consider doing a review of the Red Wing Sawmill as it is a winter model with a insulated liner.
Great idea!
@@CarlMurawski I have it, I think its the best Red Wing
Got my Thursday boots, rugged and resilient, very happy.
Good to hear!
I've got two pairs of Red Wing Moc Toes (beige suede and black), Thursday Captains, Crockett and Jones Molton and Alden 405s. And I just can't get enough. Fashion really is a love/ hate relationship.
Are Thursday's even worth buying after wearing Alden? Honestly curious.
@@stephenathon they were my first decent pair of Boots. I mostly wore them when I was working outdoors and they've got a great patina now. Sure alden boots are like walking on clouds, but I would never want to damage them. I want them to last a lifetime and they will get a great patina by that too.
I still love Thursday tho. They've been holding up pretty good
@@hannesbosse9030 Thanks for your answer. I own Thursday and not Alden, and have been disappointed with the quality of the former - although, for the price they seem fine.
Army surplus is also very good for affordable vintage boots. New surplus stuff is usually more high tech with a PU midsole and a cemented construction, but I've been able to find good deals on ''obsolete' vintage boots like the Steinkogler Feldschuh Schwer which has a triple stitched welt, triple leather midsole. The Swiss mountain boots, and Swedish M59 boots also look quite high quality.
I wore a pair of Thursday Boots Captain Arizona Adobe, everyday for a week in Budapest, never had an issue and actually had some locals where I got purchased the boots, can't say enough about them, I highly recommend them
Carl what you said at the end... priceless. One love dear man. x
Great video Carl, this is pretty much a guide to buying boots and if I'm lucky enough I'll end up having enjoyed wearing most of the boots you mentioned. One boot company that caught my attention was the Junkart boot company. I own a pair of Junkart boots in waxed flesh and I simply love them. The level of craftsmanship for the price is fantastic and their customer service is unmatched by any of their competitors. I own many of the boots you've mentioned and this is one company I'm really glad you mentioned. As for Viberg , I don't see too much value there considering I love my Nick's boots and they're two thirds the price of a Viberg. I'm looking forward to your Wesco review though, especially since you mentioned that they were the best finished boots amongst your PNW boots. Cheers and Kudos for another blockbuster video.
I am a big fan of the thursday boots. I started out with a classic black captain as my first gywed boot and then a few weeks later, I got the Captain's in Arizona Adobes, and most recently I purchased the Logger's in Cacao. The Classics are my go to for more formal occasions and then Arizona Adobes and my Cacao's are my daily shit kickers. I got the Loggers a few weeks ago and I love the boots. It has 11 eyelets which is a bit annoying but the 1/2" vibram fighter outsole, the cuban heel stack, and the thick leather really makes the Loggers the best boot Thursday has to offer. I have been wearing them everyday since I got them for christmas and I still have not borken them in just yet. It is getting more and more broken in and the leather is beautiful. When it wears in you see the nap coming through because the leather is a waxed flesh leahter. It's like having two boots built into one. My next boot will be the Truman Java Waxed Flesh with a cap toe on the 20 last. It will take a few months to save up for but those are my last boot, my grail boot.
I got a pair of iron rangers almost 2 years ago. Time for a resole, but loved them so much I got the blacksmith. Use them for work (contractor) and play (motorcycle). No issue…
I have a pair of Sagara boots and can confirm that it's tricky to order and mine arrived a couple months late. As for the quality, especially for the price they're absolutely flawless and I would trade them for any other boot.
Good to know; I have some cordmasters on order.
I think the majority of QC issues with the Thursday Boots were when the company was starting out. In the last few years they definitely have upped their game. I own 2 pairs - Captain and President and they are both made very well indeed. No loose threads or missing eyelets, the leather has no scuff or defects. Just a fine pair of boots
This is awesome content, discovered a lot of new-to-me brands
Just found this video, thank you! The advice at the end is very important too, especially for us cash strapped folks! As much as I want a pair of Iron Rangers someday the fact is I love my new Thursday Captains, they feel special when I put them on and so what if they aren’t the best things ever? They’re really enjoyable and have plenty of adventures ahead of them and that’s what counts.
Still waiting sooo patiently on the wesco video, I've been wanting to pull the trigger on a pair of job masters for 4 years now, I still haven't. But I cant wait to see your review on them. I'll be using them for commercial construction as a Sheet Metal Worker (tinknocker)
Thank you for the list I'll be referencing it often.
I agree with your financial priorities, Carl. As for boots, I love my Viberg 2030 boots. They are almost like bespoke shoes for me, at least.
I really love the Urban Shepherd's for an affordable boot, super well made, pretty (in my eyes) and like 150 in Europe.
Thanks for sharing!
To be exact, they go for 145 to 205 euros including taxes in Europe.
From what I've gathered, they're worth every cent of that money. I'm certainly looking to grab a pair of either the Backroad or Scout model myself.
Edit: In fact, I couldn't think of a reason I hadn't placed an order yet, so I just bit the bullet.
This was fun to watch. I like how you broke down the tiers and introduced me to several new brands. How many of the ones you haven't tried yet are you planning on purchasing from?
For $250 the Thorogood 1892 series Tomahawk from Weinbrenner is an excellent boot for the money.
And you're getting Horween Chromexel for that money too.
Very cool, thanks for adding!
Nice but looks like they've stopped making these boots. Chippewa Originals are comparable in style and quality and have also ceased production.
@@stephenathon
That's a real shame.
They're still in stock a lot of places, and I just bought mine back in January.
They are / were an extremely underrated boot.
Horween Chromexel in a gorgeous Cognac color, 360° goodyear welted with a leather welt, brown cork outsole, black rubber heel block, and machined brass hardware with a dark nickel finish.
And the come in at about $250, a real steel of American made traditional boots.
The toebox I love too, not too tall and bulbous, and not to low like a lot of " high top dress shoes " as I call them.
@@TylerSnyder305 I like the style of both brands of boots too. You just about need an insole when wearing them (or very thick socks) since it's fiberboard and not leather, but that's my main complaint with the Chippewa's.
@@stephenathon did yours not come with one ?
Look on EBay for boots, most can be nearly new for way less. I picked up several pair of Viberg, White, and Truman for less than half of the original price. Can’t go wrong.
Great video sir
Hey Carl, new subscriber here. All I can say is Wow, what a great site and Boot review. I didn't realize how out of touch I was with the world of boots. I've been fortunate over the past 30 years to have good luck with Carolina Boots and Keen. Seriously considering treating myself with a pair of Nick's. Thanks
Thank you for taking the time comment! There is a vast world of boots out there and I’ve definitely spent a fair time in those ~$200 boots
Thanks on the reviews, just purchased the president from Thursdayboots and shout out to you!
I one pair of Golden fox ww2 style. I bought 2ends for 90 dollars, just had small color Belem, but quality build good. I bought these for after work boots and are very comfortable. I have worked in these boots in hot weather and thinner leather help keep my feet cool. I like the classic style, this soft sole. For the money give it a try.
Can confirm, White Kloud are unlike anything I have ever experienced.. if I could try to put it to words...
Imagine your royalty in the 1500s.. and you commission the best shoemaker in the land to make your shoes.
Don't see it mentioned in the below comments, so I will add in. The Red Wing mocs come on two different lasts. The 1907 and 8883 designs you are are the newest design in the roomier 45 last. This allows them to include one of their leather insole inserts. They only come in two versions of their Rough and Tough leather. The other mocs are the "classic" mocs on the older and narrower 23 last. These come with no insert, flat welt and run a more slim profile. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the research and info my man!
Fantastic content once again king... 👍👍 for the wisdom and knowledge! 💚💛❤🤙
Much appreciated!
BTW, Something unique to Viberg are their wholecut boots. They look to be 5" boots but wow are they cool. One piece of leather. I don't know much about them but I was drooling over a pair that were made in Beaver Kudu. Looked amazing.
I have the Clarks bushacre and have used them a ton. Great inexpensive chukka boots
I have a pair of the GF Boondockers. They are stupid good for the money. They indeed have a PVC welt. The leather is really nice and they are very comfortable.
Great advice at the end man
Outstanding video! Tons and tons of information. Great job Carl. I am curious if you have heard of Helm and any feedback.
Great information and great advice at the end much love
Thank you!
I think Clinch needs to be on the list as well. Clinch to me is up there with White Kloud and their engineer boots are fantastic 👌
surprized that Alden Indy boots weren't in here. Seems like Steve from Bedos leather loves them.
Like Viberg, overpriced because they are so popular, yet there is no true substitute for the Indy.
Great video and your content is damn good, keep up the great work. Tier 2 Thursday boots, man… those things last…. I have had 3 different pair between the $200 and $300 and all have held out for the last 3 years. Seriously worth it and yes used everyday and not only for going out - but also in the wood shop (take a beating and a quick buff and back to clean). Tier 4 Red Wings Iron rangers. All around best option for work and Motorcycle riding, 4 years of wearing the same 2 sets and still have about another 2-3 years (yes in the wood shop too when doing heavy work)…
I would not recommend work boots for a motorcycle riding. There are completely different areas of protection for motorcycle accidents
I just did an inquiry to Chevalier and think they might jump up a tier in price. The boot I was looking at is 235 and shipping to California for me is a whopping $90!
BTW, I've got a pair of Spruce Kudu Parkhurst. I LOVE THEM! They look so GOOD. Great boot.
I’ve heard nothing but good things!
Truman is definetly a brand i'm looking to. i'll probably get a pair of their boots. the hard part is choosing the different leathers cause they've got an amazing selection.
Totally a brand I slept on in this video!
I love my Viberg 2030 service boots. They feel bespoke to me. I also like Red Wing Iron Rangers, not as heavy duty as Viberg but they are excellent.
Truman is still my favorite. I do want to try Nick's though.
Great overview, Carl. One brand I like is Allen Edmonds. They have excellent boots, typically retailing $400-$500, but also run a lot of sales for 40% or more off. Best of all, they are American Made.
My go to brand. Great fit, comfort and look. You can't go wrong
Seconded. The Higgins Mill is where it's at for casual wear. But it is a pretty light boot and not comparable to White's, etc.
The plastic welt on the Golden Fox boots looks sharp and seems pretty tough and flexible, but I do feel it on the outer edges of my toes and the back of my heel at times. A leather/cork insole and new socks makes it a non-issue for the most part. Their leather is surprisingly soft and supple while being plenty thick. Company based on CA, most products made in China, but they have an American made line that uses a full leather welt and midsole for about 200 bucks.
Deserves a million views! Thanks!!!
All my fav boot come out from indonesia they affordable reliable and superior handmade just love it
Really expected Danner to land on here around the $300 range. I’m not an expert, and I get you can’t list the world. But some Korea brands. Guess Tho Danner might be more on the Hiker style vs a dress/heritage boot. Great video!
Thanks for putting this all together! Would you be willing or have plans to review the Jim Green Monster in the future? You introduced me to the brand and I can’t really find much on that model. I’d love to see how they stack up to the Razorback as I’m looking for a waterproof boot (wish the Razorback was waterproof).
Yes sir, definitely coming!
@@CarlMurawski awesome! That’s great news…looking forward to it
Good wisdom at the end!
Its important to keep things in perspective!
I think Alden should be mentioned here, and it’s important to know what type of boot will work for you, quality is very important but sometimes that’s not always reflected on the price alone one should know what shape or style will work best, for example my Thursday boots fit me better than most and I wear those over my whites-Alden-viberg-grant stone-pairs that cost significantly more. Parkhurst and Junkart look very interesting tho, thank you for putting those on my radar. I was planning on getting new Alden’s or whites but I will check those out.
Thoughts on Truman? Surprised they weren’t included with their recent rise in popularity.
Honestly I havent tried them yet!
I own a pair of their moc toes in storm kudu. Incredible workmanship!
Truman makes a good boot!
Hey Carl Murawski, I was wondering if you had any experience with Oak Street Bookmakers? I just ordered the cap toe trench boot because I love the look of this boot. Just wondering,if you own any or recommend this brand? I take your advice very seriously and hope Oak Street boots are as good as they look...thanks again. Huge fan from Wellington, Florida.
Hello, just wondering where you would rank oakstreet bootmakers on this list?
Love your videos! Thanks
+1 for a review of a TXTURE boot.
Do try Parkhurst boot, they are great.
I've been wearing a pair of MTO Txture Sanity boots for a month now in the PNW doing linework. Very nice boots, every stitch is perfect and the fit was spot on. Payed 390$ with shipping and PayPal fees.
One brand you didn’t mention, Allen Edmunds (on sale). They have good styling and are very comfortable.
I like that there are a lot of price options here, but a grounded nature about the whole affair. This may be a strange comparison, but Rick Owens is surprisingly down to earth, too.
Courteney Boot Company. Vellies style “bush” boots. Mine are olive green. Hand made in Zimbabwe, company goes back to when it was Rhodesia. Lots of hunting boot options.
Yeah, if you have the time and patience exploring Indonesian boot makers brand, you can find good boots with really good quality at really cheap price, because a lot of Indonesian boot makers are really a small workshop with only ±10 workers so it can't met the scale of production and marketing like other bibrands. I have a pair from Indonesia and it has thick full grain leather all around (more than 2,5mm) wiith neat stitches, nice finish and goodyear welt for $100 lol
Do you have any thoughts on the best waterproof hiking/work boot?
Surprised to not see Oak Street Bootmakers on here. They have a range of offerings. Correct me if I’m wrong anyone, but I believe their boots range from $260-$500. Small batch out of Chicago. I don’t own a pair personally, but they make high quality looking boots!
Frye makes good boots for the money and they go on sale. The Frye Gordon is a good example.
Do you have any videos on hiking boots that can really do 1000 plus mileage - granted not expecting you tested them other than via machinery?
I wear my razorbacks witha 5"inseam short as well
I scanned the comments and didn’t see anyone mention origin boots. They seem like a great up & coming boot and apparel company.
JK boots in Spokane are really nice boots and quite the American Dream story behind the scene.
Give Truman boots a whirl. I have a few pairs and I love them.
What do you think of Fryes boots?
My Thursday midnight blue scout just got here today, the quality is very nice , only thing is I ordered it half size down as the website suggested, and it's too tight and they don't really have my size in stock so I can only return and refund it 😢 but yeah they are nice
Hey Carl, what do you think about timberlands American craft line, ive been seeing them on ebay for under 150 Goodyear welt with horween leather
would you recommend the timberland 6" premium for work
We need more jacket reviews. Bradley Mountain, lc king, bravestar, Railcar.
Top boots channel on UA-cam
Hi Carl, I also suggest you check hiking boots like Meindl or Limmer boots if you could. Would be nice to hear your take on them. Thanks for this nice video man.
I totally intend on checking out Limmer soon. It requires a drive up to NH which is fine by me!
@@CarlMurawski that is amazing man
So when is the wesco video coming out?
Baker’s and WESCO have the Best Customer Service also WESCO have an AWESOME Customization Program which leads to the next step: Carl Murawski - Baker’s - WESCO Collaboration 🎉
Dude, how about Chippewa boots? They r my favorite
Time for an update video!! 😊
Great listing. Working on my first pair of Thursday boots. Wondering how, in the lowest price grouping, you feel about New Republic? Also, Beckett Simone (2nd group) and Allen Edmonds (a bit higher)?
Thursday boots are awesome. I wear mine daily. Extremely comfortable. Only problem is that the normal soles are not that good for winter which is why I think they came out with the storm king bottoms. If it is icy I slip a lot in them. Otherwise they're legit for $200.
Those are the very same four brands I tend to shop when I consider boots. All great, but New Republic isn’t on the same tier. They are great if you want to try out a style, though, like say your first ever Chelsea. And they do offer value for the money, IMO
Dammit one minute I’m about to buy a Thursday boot vanguard and now I’m on a viberg service boot. Thanks a lot! Lol
Hahaha I’m sorry!!!!
Great video! Can you make a video on boot soles that are really loud? I got a pair that looks good, feels good, the leather is GOOD But they sound like I'm wearing heels as in women's shoes. I don't think they are re-solable and I don't really trust shoemakers around where I live as they don't have the skills, materials and frankly the mood to resole anything. I mean they do but use glue and that's about it. And there's no way of choosing the sole either.. So, what can be done in that instance? Thanks!
Are boots from Amazon worth it I found these really nice Bruno Marc boots I wanted to know if they'll last if I buy them
Kreosote 7 at 19:58 would appear to be called the “Murawski” ? One in the same? Good-on-ya, but I’m more lower end and can’t agree more with your Jim Green assessments. They are my hiking boot. I like to feel the shape of the rock under foot with more rather than a single point of contact. A great urban boot too.
I've been trying to get boots in New Zealand that don't cost 60+USD to ship. Or in redwings case, ship here at all. Any thoughts?
Hey Carl are you doing a gift guide this year??? Need some ideas for the girlfriend.
Why was Alden left off? Are they over priced now or just forgotten?
Are the cheaper boots not glue soles? Is this a bad thing or does it not matter too much?
blundstone also makes good boots for around 200 they have work boots and casual boots
I wish there were more options for women
I bought my wife a pair of Thursday Chelsea boots for women. She loves them so much I am thinking about getting her a second pair.
My girlfriend owns Red Wings and Trumans. Both are great quality.
Being European I have some Septieme Largeur Moissac Dainite boots, they're really awesome
Also just ordered boots from Bridlen, based in India
I got the tier 3 redbacks for less than 150. Was worth it.
Gotta try a Viberg;)
The Mil Tec WW2 service boot repros have a good reputation for sub 200Buck boots
I'd be curious to here what you think of the Rokker Urban Racer boots. Dedicated motorcycle boots, but suitable for daily wear. Everyone who's tried them has had nothing but positive things to say.
