They say they're restricting dollar stores to help poor people when in reality they're doing it to help big box stores like Wal Mart who have bigger lobbying budgets.
Why not make Dollar stores part of the solution. Maybe regulators can try working with these businesses so that certain stores located in certain low income food deserts to also carry some fruit, veggies, eggs, etc? Maybe give individual locations a bit of a municipal tax break if it raises that location's operating costs too high. edit: nvm i just needed to watch the last 25% of the video haha

In southern rural Kentucky, you’ll find Dollar General on a country highway practically in the middle of nowhere. It really is a valuable service to people living where no other store can be found for many miles.
It’s good for those who otherwise wouldn’t have access to any type of grocery store, but in urban environments, they’ll plant themselves in an area that *looks* far from a full-service grocery store, even when it’s only a mile or two away
Dollar Tree was a gem for me when I moved out of my parent’s house. I needed meals (and everyday items) for one and obviously was on a budget. Good memories shopping there and feeling I was getting a great deal!
Making people 'feel' that they are getting a great deal is part of the the business model. You are most certainly not getting a 'deal', much less a 'great deal'. But as the video says, for those without the means to use other stores where a 'deal' can actually be had, these kinds of low-cost stores can be very helpful in getting desired products. But it must be remembered that you are paying more for less at these stores, and long-term, that is a bad thing.
Dollar General really isn't a cheap place to shop. And, over the years, Dollar Tree has reduced their product sizes. Sometimes, going to dollar stores is wasting more money than it's saving. I pay attention to the sizes/weight of my items and divide their prices by the weights of the item to see if the cents per/unit weight makes sense. If it doesn't I opt for Sams, Costco, or Walmart.
@@soulaimanebalhan9730 They may have added the price increase here, too. She said it was beginning in January, but I haven't gone in this month to see for myself...
Most people I know had been seeing less than 2% annual increase in the last 5yrs. In other words, our real purchase power is going downhill year after year. Nowadays, if you can afford Walmart, you are middle class. If you regularily shop Target, then you are better than half of the people. Dollar stores will dominate.
Dollar store hauls are ironically a source of revenue for middle class suburban moms - making dollar store gift baskets and craftable dupes of name brand decor using dollar store materials for views on their youtube and instagram. They will buy an entire shelf of stock for their video "just because". It's sickening to me, because in the comments you'll see "my dollar store was empty." And it's likely not the supply issue so much as some people with a comfortable income buying a surplus of an item. That being said - I absolutely agree that a lot of people tend to go to dollar stores now more than ever due to tightening budgets.
@@Queen-gi1ib I would only buy home decor and electronics at target. I’m very sensitive to prices so I can see the price difference. Probably not saving a lot but I don’t mind Walmart or people in Walmart lol
Well this says it all about: 1. Low wages 2. Wealth distribution 3. Labour America 4. Income gap 5. Struggles to climb the ladder 6. Poverty in America. Global poverty.
@@johnnyw6467 America had a poverty rate of 12%. The globe has a rate of 11%. That's pretty close and you can consider it easily respective or the globe. China has a poverty of 13%. Please note I'm using UN not CCP numbers. CCP numbers list . 6% for China. Basically everyone has a very similar poverty rate.
Our CFO asked us who walmart's main competition was. We all said Target. He said, no. Target isn't even in their radar. Dollar general he said. And 10 years ago no one have them a second thought.
Yeah I would of said Target as well, Target is always looking so clean and upbeat than Walmart do I would of thought they was some competition but I see they not. And as a kid all we shopped at was dollar general and family dollar
The Target here has given up competing against Walmart. It no longer sells food items. It's shelves and selection seem kind of empty now since even automobile care items are mostly absent now. The housewares selection has shrunk and it has almost zero home hardware items. It's mostly clothing now made in China. I'm wondering if Target will stay in business in my city since there are walmart supercenters located both north and south of it. It also doesn't have many customers since each time I go in, the store is sort of empty of foot traffic.
I'm not surprised. Target is more specialized than Walmart when it comes to it customer base and what it sells. So it is looked at as more an upscale store than Walmart, which is more a general store. So if you have shopped at Trader Joe's vs Aldi, you would see my point clearly. Dollar stores are too low end to compete with Walmart directly. I do use them more often though, because they are much closer and I don't need a car to get to them. But I'm so limited on what I could buy. I do often time compare them with Harbor Freight, because I need tools and rope a lot. And I don't want to walk the extra mile sometimes to get these items. I never hardly ever buy hardware, tools at Walmart. It is hard to find in their big store, you have to go out your way and something's are never in store. And I use home Depot and Lowes for hardware, because they are very consistent like Harbor Freight.
Given rising prices and stagnant wages, many people can only afford Dollar Tree products. Even for those with a decent income, Dollar Tree is just fun to shop at bc they're so cheap.
They are super cheap. When I am craving let’s say some kind of junk ( for example a Diet Coke ), I just visit the Dollar Tree within walking distance from my apartment . It’s always refrigerated and cold in 0.5l can.
Just another sign the US is in a rapid state of decline. Everyday there are more poor people, and the inequalities between the rich and poor are becoming unbearable.
Not really…discount stores are popular everywhere in the world. Get something you want for less is what everyone in the world do. Mom and Pop’s store are closing down? Oh BOO HOO!! I am not contributing into building your portfolio by buying your overpriced things.
Not true. Discount stores attract a very wide range of income levels. You get a dopamine hit when you feel like you're getting a bargain. Everyone loves a bargain, whether you're rich or poor. I'm definitely not poor, and I love shopping at Dollar Tree and thrift stores.
@@Athrunwong Not really. I live in Sweden I have not seen a single dollar store here. And in Germany where I grew up there are very very few. I can count on one hand how often I have been in one of these Dollar type stores during the 25 years of my existence. In Europe there are very very few of these Dollar stores in general. They are a bit more common further south in europe, Spain, Italy and so on, but nothing even close to how it is in the US. I go to Lidl often but that is very different to a dollar store so I would not put that in the same category.
The analogy about the paper towels has merit if you are buying for a family but a single person may only need 1 paper towel roll and doesn't need 6 or 30 rolls. A lot of ppl do not need a ton of items so these stores work for their needs.
I am single and I buy 24 rolls at a time because its MUCH cheaper that way. I also tend to start shopping for more when I am down to 4 or so - I can watch for sales and not be "forced" to buy because of immediate need. But I can AFFORD to do that.
I'm always buying paper towels at dollar stores. Reason, if I was to buy them at Walmart, that is the only thing I could buy, which is considered a wasted effort. Getting to Walmart is more than 5 miles from me. I either have to walk or take public transportation. I'm also a single person. I do sometimes pick them up at Roses (a discount store) or Aldi (if the sell them.) But they usually come in 6.
@Lil Luke True, but many people live in small spaces that can't accomodate bulk. I relied on Dollar Tree for paper towels when I rented a small 1-bedroom place. Now that I live in a 2-bedroom home that has a sizable pantry, I buy paper towels in bulk from Costco.
As a single person one roll of paper towels lasts me a month I don’t need a six month supply I can use that $4 remaining dollars to get other things I need. I’m a late comer to the dollar store but happy I finally took a browse
This is awful! I've decided to boycott Dollar Tree! Which is sad, but they already refuse to pay their employees more than $7.25/hour... But to raise prices without paying their employees decent wages! I'm done!!! 💯💅
I definitely think it is the walkability / accessibility factor. We have a Family Dollar in our neighborhood less than a block away we can walk to versus getting in the car driving a few miles down the road.
Dollar stores are just providing what customers want. If you want to improve things, you will have to change the culture and behavior of the communities, not regulate the stores out of existence.
It tells you how much the US is suffering from wealthy inequality. With wage stagnation and price inflation, the Walmart shopper is becoming the dollar store shopper.
not really. all these problems arise because of America's car-centric infrastructure and how inaccessible stores are (hence food deserts). If there existed a European-like alternative, with public transit available in most towns and towns being scaled to walk-ability, then people won't have to shell out an excess of 1k on cars per month. Public transit is much cheaper, it turns out. People can survive and thrive with much smaller incomes (20-30k depending on rent prices) with these conditions present, including a variety of stores and grocery stores and retailers that offer discount prices. Move all these people to a public transit friendly place and watch them manage living with the same income that they're having trouble with in smaller and rural communities. There are still people in north america who are living paycheck to paycheck despite making like 60-100K. there's clearly something wrong, never mind Westerner's habit of overspending, living past their means, and the biggest offender of all: eating out often (including visiting fast food franchises) or buying ready-to eat meals at their grocery stores instead of cooking. People have a budgeting problem.
Something they really gloss over here is how forcing people to spend more money because they have less keeps them trapped in low income. When a company declines to comment on their rapid growth and success you know somethings up.
7:39 This is such a bad criticism. Yes buying paper towels in bulk at walmart may save you a few cents per unit compared to dollar tree, but you will more than pay for it with just 1 uncaught pricing error or item marked up for no reason. The last time I needed batteries, the cheapest at walmart was 8x AAs for $8 while dollar tree was selling 2 packs of panasonics for $1. Plus, personally I prefer to outsource warehouse logistics to dollar tree instead of host bulk items rent free in my home.
I live in a podunk town and we got like 14 of them surrounding us, popping up in old fields every year. Some of them have fresh produce and good selection so I'm not gonna complain. DG used to be super cheesy and had only junk food when I was a kid but it's definitely evolved into something like a mini Walmart and you save on gas because you don't have to travel to actual Walmart anymore if your closer DG has what you need.
Dollar Tree is making a huge mistake thinking that most of us shop there because of the value. Most ppl shop at DT because the stuff is a dollar. And most of the time when it's a dollar I'm going to buy multiples. If I want to spend more than a dollar I would go to Walmart or Dollar General. I think they're making a big mistake with this.
@@zinjanthropus322 if it is then they wouldn't have to buy Family Dollar. This us something they should have done years ago if they were going to do it. Ppl are use to everything being a dollar and now 30 plus years later they want to turn it into a Family Dollar or 99 Cents only store. I don't see that working out for them.
True! I stopped by yesterday and only left with 3 packs of peanuts vs buying a bunch of stuff i dont need because they are only $1. 🤪Unless they have some name brands stuff left over (and not ridiculously downsized) from other retailers, it is just not worth it if you can afford to buy in bulk from Walmart, Target, Aldi, Costco etc... People who can only afford to spend as little as they go are going to be the most affected, unfortunately.
Here in canada dollar tree has been 1.25 for like 15 years and some items are now going up to 1.50. Its not going to destroy their businesss. Like always, you should shop around.
I loved living in Germany with their many discount grocery stores. It was very inexpensive but they had good produce, meat, and cheese. The German Aldi is a little different than their US counterpart. But there was also Lidl, Penny, and others. Germans rejected American Walmart. Lidl was the best, and there are a few in the United States. It would be great if the Lidl grocery model took over rather than dollar stores. Think fresh bread, produce, milk, cheese but no fancy displays and bring your own bag or box like ALDI. Canned items are discounted international so think fair priced Greek olives, pasta from Italy, and 39 cent Spätzle. If Lidl did take over they should consider taking over the cheese production in the USA too. The USA produces tons of excess milk and produces mediocre cheeses. I got Brie for about one or two Euros at Lidl rather than $10. They also had cheap liquor and wine which would likely not happen here. An off brand Jägermeister or good wine for 5 Euros.
Their market is middle class. They would never setup in a lower income area, because that would mean having dedicated security, which would affect their price point. Anyway, Save A Lot was suppose to fulfill this void. But they haven't done well in managing there business.
When I first moved to Los Angeles in March 2000 I bought everything I could in the 99 Cent Only Stores that are all over L.A. With inflation I doubt they can keep this up much longer.
They already sell items over $1. And NONE for exactly 99 cents! When I moved to L.A. 14 years ago, all their items were 99 cents or less. Then they raised their basic price to 99.99 cents (always rounding up and never counting that hundredth of a cent.) Then they added items above $1.
99COS is keeping up by making their stuff smaller. Things that would have a pound or 1/2 qt in it in other stores only have 10 oz in 99cos, for example, energy drinks or cooking oil.
The problems with the US urban communities is the planning policies that encourage the construction of huge shopping malls people HAVE to drive to instead of being able to walk to within their community. Thus the big stores have huge shops in the big malls while the smaller options like the 'dollar stores' can set up in much smaller communities closer to the clients.
Dollar stores have the essentials, easy in/out, located nearby, priced right. Unlike super stores with massive parking lots, long aisles of junk, located at a distance.
I suppose it depends on your definition on junk. You say 100% of the stuff is junk, my guess is 75% is junk, not too much different than any big box store. I like DG because I don’t need to overpay for standard household and personal consumables.
Geez cannot allow dollar store to open because of poor diet? How about not have any diet, that would for sure solve the poor diet problem! Genius move!
Dollar stores were never meant to be grocery stores. They’re an off priced hit or miss odds and ends store. If you want fresh produce or meat’s go to the grocery store.
I used to work for a company that produced goods for Neiman Marcus to Martha Stewart brands. Dollar Store is smart because they asked for pre-approved licensed items that no other retailers wanted and ordered in bulk.
I enjoy occasionally going to dollar stores as much as the next person; especially for seasonal decorations. The problem is people don't measure the ounces or item count compared to regular grocery stores. A 12 oz can of generic green beans is $1 at the dollar store store, where as a 18 ounce can is $1.19 at the grocery store and people don't realize the $1.19 is a much better deal per ounce. I think the issue isn't going to the dollar store, it's not having nearby competition for people to make informed decisions.
I was an international students in the US and I shopped a lot in dollars store. I mean, for a int'l student with limited fund and had no plans to stay permanently in the US, I had no need for luxury items. I only need my basics met and if I could find it cheap, why should I pay more. I still shopped at Walmart/Target/Trader's Joe for fresh produce/food...but still....

Some dollar stores are dreary simple dumping grounds for cheap, at times out of date or unsaleable items. At the same time, some of them are fun. I go to them all the time for cheap plastic bags and cleaning stuff. However, store customer service and store cleanliness is terrible. I guess you get what you pay for as they say.
Our government serves the affluent first and foremost. That is a very serious problem. The affluent aren't bright enough to understand that money in peoples hands is how an economy works for every one. All profits and any other kind of money should be directed at the poorest. Any other kind of activity should be called what it is, a Crime.
Dollar Tree is good. You will never have a pricing mistake or unreasonable markup at dollar tree. You will never be pressured to overbuy and overstock your home, it is the direct opposite of the big box consumerist mentality of "buy a year's supply and throw out half at the end of the year cuz it went bad before you could finish it". Dollar Tree may not offer the best value for every product, but the value will always be fair. Dollar Tree is life.
Dollar Tree has changed since it is going to a dual store concept here. The new section of store will have items higher priced than $1.25 and the $1.25 section will be mostly the party goods, seasonals, and smaller items.
I love dollar general or dollar stores. I don’t typically buy food there but they have a lot of other items that are much more affordable than big box stores.
I think it’s a little inauthentic to compare genuine dollar stores like Dollar Tree, where the vast majority of products are actually $1, to other dollar stores that have the word “dollar” in their name but don’t sell the majority of their products at $1. Every Dollar General, Family Dollar, etc. I have ever been to sell the bulk of their products above $1 whereas Dollar Tree has only just started introducing small sections of items priced up to $5.
Here in Mexico we had about 10 years ago $1 store. But as the peso loosed value those were closing or seling $1,$2 even $3 products. On the U.S are rising instead of dessapearing lol. As someone said above. Diminish of the american middle class and the U.S dollar itself.

The profit margin is not the same as net income. It could be the company requires a 35% margin to pay its administrative and operating costs. At the end of the day no one invests in s company they aren’t making money on.
Well think about it, do you like going to Walmart for dog food where you have to find parking, get off and walk half a mile, go into the big store grab a cart and walk another half mile just to reach the dog food? Then you see things you don't need and end up spending $200 on dog food at Walmart? Or just park in front of the Family Dollar and buy your dog food and walk out?
Dollar stores are more expensive ("poor tax") than a grocery store or even Wal-Mart. This is why regulation is needed. But they do take the risk moving into areas that Wal-Mart do not. For example a bag of charcoal is a few dollars more expensive and after awhile, you're paying $20-30 more just because you don't have reliable transportation to drive 5 minutes.
True because the quality is not that good, ingredients are questionable, cheaply made duplicate products, and tissue and paper towels are cheaply made.
A poor tax is a $35 charge for a $2 overdraft. Father in Alabama paid a $50 penalty for a late $14 water bill. This is how unregulated capitalism maintains a poor and exploitable population. This is where the US is right now because citizens are no longer able to outspend the rich and place more priority in theocratic policy than actual quality of life.
Dollar store is not more expensive than Walmart or the grocery store around here. You also have the choice to shop where you want. It’s not the stores responsibility to solve all your problems. Shop there or don’t. They’ll just open somewhere else snd be just fine.
A possible solution is to require that all dollar stores are required to have permanent food stands that local farmers can use to sell their produce. Let them partner with local businesses and the OG bargainers; Farmers.
I LOVE a good Dollar store of any variety, For me its not about being cheap but rather getting more for your money. We tend to forget that products today are simply not made as well as decades prior. Inflation price hiking changes in companies locations , and the cost of shelf life and demand and advertising costs. Its all jacked up the price of all consumer products, many of which are no longer even produced in same manner of old or sourced from the same locations. So what we have are often two products one sold in thrift stores that lack all the glitz and glam of products sold in standard big box venders, but in truth are products being created and sourced from the same location... CHINA, or many other of the major asian foreign nations. The difference in the products overall being negligible at best. so why burn all the extra money thats actually not attributing to a truly better product? at least in most cases. For things like food i typically still stick to the more popular sources, but for general items, you simply mix it up. And often you find, the same product simply relabeled, or lasting just about as long if not longer than its more expensive counterpart.
I've recently moved to central IL lived in Chicago my entire life, there's a dollar general every 3 miles in any direction it feels like. Even when you feel like you're out in the boonies in the middle of nowhere, a dollar general comes out of nowhere. I've been into a dollar general to buy a gift bag or stock my home theater candy , but slowly came to realize that unfortunately some folks do the majority of their grocery shopping there 😕
Dollarstores give you the illusion of cheap price. In reality its more so just smaller and lesser quantity for less price. Not necessarily a "deal" but also not a scam. Sure its 5$ compared to 9$ at target but that Target one will last 2 weeks while the 5$ will only last 1. So when you consider the time, gas, physical energy, and wear n tear into account, that Target is the better choice
One thing people have to realize is that too much of anything is not good, it also applies to making few companies too big isnt good either. The bigger a company gets, the lower their quality of goods become. They will think, why make it better when people are buying it. So my suggestion is to support, small business and also support your local businesses.
Most small businesses are wayyy more exploitative, prime example is India where small stores often charge 2x-5x of retail price and often rates discussed on phone and in store rate differ too much that making any price inquiry to local shop is never worth it.
Dollar stores do serve an essential function for under-served communities, but they can also promote a very wasteful lifestyle. Buying cheap goods that you will throw away in a few months or use twice is not a great way to live, for you or your descendants or the people around you.
did you people forget to mention the fact that most of these places give their employees low amount of hours each week to work so therefore they make more money
I was just watching the issue of food desserts. Dollar stores, although not perfect, they at least offer lower prices. This is compare to convenience stores. Their selection is also much better than Convenience stores. But for cold drinks, usually a convenience store would win.

Making people 'feel' that they are getting a great deal is part of the the business model. You are most certainly not getting a 'deal', much less a 'great deal'.
@@animejanai4657 Target doesn’t really do anything special in any category.

Can't be said better, it's a symptom, not a cause. You can't just ban them...
Dollar stores are just providing what customers want. If you want to improve things, you will have to change the culture and behavior of the communities, not regulate the stores out of existence.
Good look with that, people pay for farts in jars.
It tells you how much the US is suffering from wealthy inequality. With wage stagnation and price inflation, the Walmart shopper is becoming the dollar store shopper.
Yep!!
not really. all these problems arise because of America's car-centric infrastructure and how inaccessible stores are (hence food deserts).
The explosive rise of poverty in the USA would be a more accurate title

Decline in the middle class, stagnated wages, decline in purchashing power and the rise of dollar stores..America

Here in Mexico we had about 10 years ago $1 store. But as the peso loosed value those were closing or seling $1,$2 even $3 products.
On the U.S are rising instead of dessapearing lol.
As someone said above. Diminish of the american middle class and the U.S dollar itself.
Dollar stores are not cheap, its the “perception of being cheap” that is fueling their growth, similar to the psychology of $1.99 bargain.
Dollar stores don't do weird markups. They can only change the quantity which takes much longer to implement. Dollar tree offers fair value and pricing stability.
Where else can you get a laundry basket for a dollar? Maybe you should drop psychology 101 and take a math class. No one can touch their prices.
@@kayakexcursions5570 Agreed. Some items are not a deal, but I buy dollar store items when I have scouted the prices at other stores. I don’t buy for the perception of a deal, I do the math and often the dollar store is cheaper.
Not true! Lot of the items are cheaper! The items where its simply not feasible to sell at bulk prices they reduce the quantity to make it fit. What else would you expect them to do? Sell at a loss?
That's not true at all. Zip lock bags, plastic totes, cookware, and other things at Walmart or Target are way more expensive than at the dollar store.
This is awful! I've decided to boycott Dollar Tree! Which is sad, but they already refuse to pay their employees more than $7.25/hour... But to raise prices without paying their employees decent wages! I'm done!!! 💯💅
I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 80k in stocks (with the help of my Financial Advisor of course) and made about 246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded with her again and now I'm rounding up close to a million.
I'm very confident trading with Mrs Kathy because of the steady income she makes for me. She has never faltered
I just withdraw my profit last two days before
now. am glad i did invest with them still reinvested and the trade is ongoing
4 years ago I was living paycheck to paycheck, working 40hrs a week,
High school drop out with a GED. 489 credit score with an eviction, Repo and collections.
Got into real estate but ran into unqualified clients that didn't qualify for a mortgage because of their credit
I found this home based business in here on UA-cam and it just made sense.
This opportunity has changed my life ❤️
My credit score increased tremendously, I become a multiple 6 figure earner, I'm able to finicially support my family. I now have the time to and luxurious life I've Dreamt of.
All thanks to Mrs Kathy.
God will surely bless her abundantly.
Now I advice others to go into crypto trading.
It's the independence and financial freedom for me 🥰🥰
The smaller size of product is also a convenience - not just the price. It's cos I'm carrying them out, not driving them out.
Just be careful working in the stores. One became an Uber driver, cuz she was tired of being robbed as a dollar store manager. Sometimes people and kids come check out, and they don't have enough money, so the cashiers feel awkward.
Uber has a 90% turnover rate & Dollarama IS for the people so unless they start calling police & become the next wallmart, poor people can get away with so your point is slack
@@4777hamza uber was the only job I ever worked where I made negative money. Such a rip off
You can say that about any store. It’s not the store’s fault thugs run free.
Dollar Tree said that its decision to raise prices permanently was "not a reaction to short-term" inflation, but the change will help Dollar Tree return to its typical profit margin of around 35% next year.
Tree $$$ 10 .00
This is awful! I've decided to boycott Dollar Tree! Which is sad, but they already refuse to pay their employees more than $7.25/hour... But to raise prices without paying their employees decent wages! I'm done!!! 💯💅
Exactly
Nickel and dime stores? Here in the Southeastern U.S., they were called "five and dime" stores.
Both terms were used around the country.
Same for the northeast.
So the poor are paying higher prices because they can’t afford to buy wholesale? That isn’t “helping” the poor
I make nearly 6 figures and I still go to the dollar store by choice. It’s not just for poor people. It’s just a smart place to shop.
I agree. If you use Walmart, dollar store and BJ/Cosco together you can save a lot of money. Shoot. You can also get a lot of pet supplies there.
For me the nearest Wal-Mart is 60 miles. I call the dollar store the poor mans Wal-Mart.
A possible solution is to require that all dollar stores are required to have permanent food stands that local farmers can use to sell their produce. Let them partner with local businesses and the OG bargainers; Farmers.
😂😂😂
I've been into a dollar general to buy a gift bag or stock my home theater candy , but slowly came to realize that unfortunately some folks do the majority of their grocery shopping there 😕
Soon to be the $1.15 store 😂
$2 store
So my suggestion is to support, small business and also support your local businesses.
wrong. big companies = more economies of scale.
Small businesses are inefficient and inconsistent
Most small businesses are wayyy more exploitative, prime example is India where small stores often charge 2x-5x of retail price and often rates discussed on phone and in store rate differ too much that making any price inquiry to local shop is never worth it.
@@AS-ug2vq yes true, ofcourse it would have a different meaning in other countries. I wasnt thinking internationally.
The professor at 01:07 is the proof that dollar stores should not sell webcams! 🤣
Dollars stores are very convenient for small household ,kitchen items, but i can't buy any food from them,it's horrible.
When all you have is a dollar, that is where you go...
I'm not even tripping about a quarter, up until a year ago, I made fun of dollar stores, thinking they were jumbo version of the dollar aisle at Albertsons, but I've been saving ish-loads of money. I'm in👍
They complain that there are no stores in inner city neighborhoods then dollar stores open and they complain about that.
This just shows how much poorer we getting as a society
It now, $1.25 store! They having not gotten around to changing the signage yet!
My Dollar store is next door to a UPS store. I buy the card, tissue paper, gift wrap, packing tape and box at Dollar Store before I walk to the UPS store to ship. My other favorite items to buy are tissue boxes, cotton pads, napkins, vaseline lip balm and clear fragrance free hand soap.
Supermrkets are not the solution to the lack of cheap fresh vegetables in American cities. Sidewalk vendors are, but they are banned.
Did they give a reason for banning them?
Aldi and Lidl will help with that, they are cheap and sell fresh vegetables, because they cut cost everywhere except the quality of their products
Went to the "Dollar Tree" to find that everything that i usually purchase had increased by Twenty five cents, left without purchasing anything and went to WalMart, after looking i found the very same items for around Ninety five and Ninety eight cents, then i checked over at the Dollar General, they had them for One Dollar still, looks like Dollar Tree is overpriced, goodbye Dollar Tree.
Because the average person is getting poorer
A Dollar Tree only works out economically if you are a savvy shopper, cook everything from scratch, and grow your own fresh vegetables.
How does taking less of your customer's money make you the villain?
Dollar stores here in NZ sell almost exclusively cheap Chinses goods and are run by usually Chinese or Korean immigrants .They supply some very useful goods at a very low price although the quality is naturally lower.
America: We want American made goods. Not cheap stuff from China.
Also America: We love our dollar stores!
You can have both. Just don't buy cheap ALL the time.
Dollar General is killing it in the rual community. They are everywhere and in excellent locations. The DG around from my house is packed every day. It's in a great location.
To be fair, my in-law’s neighborhood has had a DollarGeneral Marketplace (the version with fresh food) for several years; the expansion, not the establishment of that model is fairly recent.
Lies again? Take Meds
So many budget/dollar stores in the greatest economic power of the world. I truly have not seen so many of these kinds of stores elsewhere. Sure, you have euro shops in Germany for example, but they serve slightly different purposes.
Banning dollar stores is not going to help poor community diets, people who would rather save money and not buy fresh food we’re going to already do that even if they shopped at Walmart
I have seen multiple Dollar Tree stores in upscale areas.
