Fantastic video, greatly appreciated love this device fits perfectly transportation. I'm setting up some local beat nights in my home town Birmingham and can't log lots of equipment. You're videos are helping me get to grips with this dream box 🙌🏾
Greetings from Scotland my friend!,,,totally appreciate you doing these superb videos! in which are very educational and a godsend in learning how to get to grips with this awesome little box of tricks! Did not realize it could go so deep and there also seems to be so much lurking below it's surface,,it's rather powerful in regards to the synth features which is pretty awesome too! ....Just goes to show that we should never judge a book by it's cover,,the same should be said about Yamaha's SEQTRAK! THANKS FOR SHARING!🙏
hi mate yep you can change the speed to multiple values including 50% and different types of arp styles! not on the drum parts though however you could use the racket (sub step ) features per step etc as a sort of workaround hope that helps!
I'm guessing the launch quantize also affects how long the scenes play for in song mode too? Can you control this per scene or just overall? Ie 8 bar Intro, 16 bar verse etc etc Also guess you can change the channel scene for each song scene to vary the patterns? I'm being lazy really, I'm getting up to speed with it, but not explored sampling fully or the song mode, so really appreciate this video. I hope you are on the Yamaha pay roll for your work with the SeqTrack. Your doing an ace job of promoting it. I also haven't yet got my head fully around how to manage user samples in the app and it took me ages to realise it is drag and drop to add because there is no documentation mentioning this and no UI clues! I also use a DAW, but this is my first physical groove box and I'm just loving how intuitive and fun making music is with something physical. Laptop screen just isn't the same. Jeep up the great work bro. Looking forward to more content.
Hi mate, really enjoying your Seqtrak vids. Great to hear dnb when looking at new gear. I have a question if you could help.. when loading your own samples onto the drum sounds with the app, once unplugged from the app are your samples saved onto the device or do you need to be plugged in at all times to access them? Cheers!
thanks mate! no they get saved to the seqtrack but to make sure I always save project from the home > project screen and then 'backup' but everything you work on gets saved to memory when unplugged. I usually favourite (heart) my own user sounds so I can find them easily and to see what ive been loading/sampling/dragging in!
Great video.I would love to hear how good the piano/sound presets are with a midi controller.I would be using it as a sound module and was wondering if the sounds compare to the Motif?
hi mate the piano sounds are nice there's quite a few on synth engines 1+2 im not sure about comparing it to the motif but depends what generation of motif!
Hey dude, I love your videos and am equally loving my Seqtrak - first piece of hardware I've owned and I'm having so much fun with it! I was just wondering if you know - is there a way to export audio in stereo into a DAW? To keep all the lovely panning I've done on the device! Thanks :)
Hi mate thanks for the kind words! the best way is to use it over usb c as an audio device this should come up in your DAW (most daws can only use one audio device at time) then you can just press play on your seqtrak and track real-time into your created audio track on your daw hope that helps :)
Ahh thanks mate no not currently you could as an option use up to 8 bars (across the page button) and across the 6 patterns per track option to get the most of out varietys per scene is one way !
Hey Sappo thanks for this video. I got my Seqtrak but I have a question regarding the song mode. is there way to switch song mode and playing differente project? From 1-9. Just realizing if I’m doing a live set the machine has to be stop and play another song. Thank you
Hey Sappo, thanks for your answer! Let's hope for a firmware update in the future. I found the song mode feature very limited when doing a live set. I have already contact the Yamaha support I will push them until the end for this change😊
Hi-I played with the SeqTrak a few time at NAMM. I found it surprisingly intuitive, so that's good. One thing I'm wondering though: is there a way to play any samples-whether those included or those recorded by User-chromatically? And: if this can be done, then is it possible to do this with an external keyboard, or can it only be done with the built-in keyboard?
Hi mate! Name looked awesome hope you enjoyed it all ! Samples can't be played chromatically as such as they are dedicated to the 7 sample slots synths however you can via key+all knob or by plug in a midi keyboard with the adapter or via usb and play the sample and synths. The samples will correlate to midi channel so kick - channel 1, snare channel 2 etc hope that helps!
The Seqtrak is amazing! Realy great synth. A big improvement could be to be able to chose an instrument and the effects per pattern. Three instruments + re-sampling is usually enough at the same time, but a bit limited when you want to create a full song.
Hey sappo loving the vids very helpful info. Would be great if you could show us how to hook the SEQTRAK up to a daw. I use bitwig and I can’t get it to recognise it, I’ve only seen it done in Cubase so any info would be awesome. Keep the vids coming they are so helpful
Thank you mate, its usb audio so should be able to be picked up in you're daw, you will have to use this as you're main driver for going into your daw you will have to make this your main driver/in/out in Bitwig.
Re: External MIDI keyboard control. The problem is that each drum is on it’s own separate MIDI channel. I have an advanced MIDI (DIN cable based) patch bay/processor, the MIDITEMP MT16X, that can split/distribute the input signal to the channels of your choice. I’m sure there are newer (and cheaper) alternatives. Working in the garden, it struck me: Why not make a MIDI-channel-splitter-rerouter-for-the Yamaha-Seqtrack. Small box, no power needed, like the Anatek Pocket Pedals. I would buy one😎 Any takers? I also have a slight problem reading the grey text on the black buttons, (I like Black) when they're not lit up. Just thought this was good to know, before pulling the trigger on this one, Otherwise I'm, so far, very happy with my unit.
Hi mate the app is the best port of call for me personally ! less muscle memory however a lot is doable via the key combinations if you check them out on the app manual section it can be used pretty much fully standalone!
I’d love to see a more extensive demo of synth sounds. That’s the missing element so far from the videos I have watched. It would be great to know if the synths really sound as good and rich in options as a montage for instance, as some early reviewers claim or question
By the looks of it the 2 AWM tracks are just preset players like a Yamaha home keyboard, they’re not synths at all. The 1 FM track seems to be the only real synth part. Unfortunately it looks like it’s a very underwhelming and underpowered unit compared to the competition.
Hi, do you know if there is a way to copy all the steps from one page to another? Copying the steps one by one is pretty cumbersome if you only want to do a hat variation every four bars, for example.
hi mate at the moment you can use copy per step by holding a step until it flashes then holding 'page' to choose your page and just input the step (when it flashes white its copied) I probably should show this at some point good question!
Interesting question. I think you would need a DJ controller with midi out for clock syncing for it to work. Although I can't vouch, SeqTrack app does have midi clock settings, so I'd say it would work with the right DJ controller. Buttons might be a bit fiddly though, might be better off with something with big, rubber buttons, especially if you are going to get excited whilst performing 😂
good question mate I would use it in a DJ performance for the fx as you can monitor through them (in sampling mode) or sample then trigger the sample slots (7) after and maybe some transitions/ beat sections (in pattern mode|) like you can with the pioneer mixers.
Hi, in first time Thanks for your videos. Can you help me? Know if i want conected controller midi mk32 native as keyboard with Seqtrak? Only one usb (no 5 pin). Sorry for my english. Thanks for all
Hi mate no problem yes you can use usb midi (usb c cable) you don't have to use the 5 pin cable converter. you might have to set your midi channels on the midi keyboard though or find out what they are via manual or editor software but they will correspond kick midi channel 1 snare midi channel 2 and so on hope that helps :)
That's even worse than the Roland MC groove boxes :(... not sure why these big manufacturers cannot add an SD card and stream samples from there like the Dirtywave M8.
I would like to have a SD card slot as well. But you are able to put up to 510 MB of own samples onto this device directly. Considering the price range this one competes with the MC 101 which has 4 tracks only, but a SD Card slot. The SEQTRAK in comparison has 11 tracks, but no SD Card slot. @@EdoardoMarcora
You can import your own samples to the SEQTRAK. To Drums and also to AWM/DX Synth. So the SEQTRAK is able to do chromatic sampling. But unfortunately not (yet) with the Sampler. I hope this will come in future with a new firmware, cause I am missing that feature in sampler as well

5:09 ARP! so you can change the speed to 50 and then it will play slower? (Is there any way to get "note repeat" style playing on the Drum section?)

Yes, the AWM engines are romplers and your editing option is therefore a sample based subtractive synthesis
