Great, very useful, thanks. I hadn't considered putting a reverb on my programmed breaks, or a gate for that matter. I was watching your meters and wondered how you approach gain staging in Cubase? I have literally no idea what I'm doing so every one of my tracks has Klanghelm VU meter at the top, and I try to ensure the signal coming from the instrument is at zero before any processing. Usually this means I have to drop the volume in TAL Sampler for instance as the 808s come out at about 7000 decibels. I'm really interested to see how you automate volume as well - might sound basic but I find that if I use the volume automation track it gets messy if I need to adjust the overall volume of the whole track. So I automate the trim on the Klanghelm instead. It leaves the overall track volume adjustable while leaving the automation still relative. But I have no idea if I'm approaching any of it properly. I also have no idea what i should be looking for on the mix buss level-wise. I always aim to get the level to the zero on the mix buss meter, or slightly above. I have no idea if that's what is preferable for mastering though. I also have no idea how to take a project, with all of its delay and reverb and FX sends, (and sidechains going in every direction) and convert it to stems for mixing. That's probably why a lot of people (me included) do literally everything in one mega project and toast the processor. Cheers, enjoying the combination of jungle and Cubase and experience!

are these all cubase specific plugins, or can i get them externally onto ableton, also, do you usually mix the drums together or do seperate mixing to the individual sounds, thx

Great to watch somebody actually producing jungle and dnb in Cubase... it's like an Ableton wasteland out here. I'm still on Cubase 12 Pro but I imagine I'll move on to 14 soon. Looking forward to seeing how you approach your breaks in Cubase - I'm wrangling with the Hot Pants break myself right now. In particular I'm curious as to what you're doing with the multiband envelope shaper (I spotted it) because I have it on my Hot Pants break as well. I'm working on smooth and jazzy track so I've rolled about 3dB out of the attack, mainly in the high end of the snare. Another thing I do, which for some reason seems to add authenticity, is to put a tiny amount of phaser on the whole break on about a 4 bar modulation. Anyway, great video, cheers

Great presentation 🙏. I like the workflow enhancing features that drum machine provides, but I was sort of expecting it to be possible to export a drum machine instrument to groove agent for further tweaking, much like you can do with sampler track. I wonder if this integration is coming, possibly with an update to groove agent…?

Good stuff! Akai muscle memory is burnt in. Too young for the s950, for me it was s3000. Another cool way to feed sampler track or padshop is render in place. I have it on alt+r and alt+shift+r with settings. Would be cool if I could send it directly to sampler track though 🤓
