Color is very important to me. I am not an artist, but I annotate PDFs all the time. The PDFs have color to help make information clear, graphs, tables, etc. While my RM2 has been great for more than a year it has been a struggle when I have a need for color which is typically 2-3 times a week. And the thing is, when you need color, you really need it. While I have used color pens on my RM2 which show as grayscale until I print it to a color printer from my desktop computer, there are many times when I thought I switch the pen to red, blue, or black only to later learn that I didn't. And typically then it is too late to go back and rework the document. So I look forward to getting the Paper Pro. I am not keen on the idea of less responsive, or that the pen needs to charge, or for that matter that they changed the pen at all. I have the pen from Remarkable for my RM2 and it is what I use when on the go. But at work and at home, I have a separate third party pen that I much prefer, it is a softer tip. It is like having a car without shocks (RM pen) and with shocks EMR Stylus. That said, I will likely get the Paper Pro soon, maybe a Xmas present:)!
I was so pleased to see a fellow leftie using an rM, until I saw your handwriting XD Great video, and going from the rM to the rM2 and now the rMPP I really appreciate seeing your experience to see if it matches or differs from mine, and I couldn't agree with you more. The rMPP is only worth it to rM2 owners if they want colour and the "backlight" (which I did), but otherwise it's pretty much exactly the same. It's bigger and faster but not so much so that the rM2 seems small and slow. New buyers should definitely get the rM2 unless they specifically want the new features, and I'm pretty sure you can find quite a few 2nd hand ones online right now!
For me, the main difference was the active nature of the screen and pen compared to the RM2. The range of pressures works better for me on the Pro, and if I had dry hands then gestures was a bit hit and miss on the RM2: not on the Pro at all. The colours are great, but the moving to the new screen and ten tech is actually the game changer. I expect that there will be times when the backlight is super useful too.
Can you go back and forth using both RM2 and RMPP? Do they stay in sync without the Connect subscription? I love my RM2 and just purchased the RMPP yesterday. Looking forward to it arriving! I'm curious to see if I'll want to use RMPP at home (due to its larger size) and RM2 while out and about since the small size makes it easy to throw in my purse. We'll see how I use one or both once the RMPP arrives. Just curious to know what's possible. Thx!
you said what I really wanted! the size of RM2 but with colour!... that could be awesome, and I would really wait for it to come up before buying any of them hehehe
I think all reviews of tablet especially those designed to be written on for maximum paper-like experience should include at least a 5 minutes writing showcasing all the functions.
It does seem to have a darker tint without light, but when the light is on, yellowed definitely. I was a bit bummed on this too but overtime have gotten used to it.
I have to say that for me as well its a close thing between the r2 and Pro. Low weight and almost perfect size of the r2 on one hand. Bigger screen and colour on the other. I appreciate the larger screen of the pro as I love to mind-map. R2 is a little too small for mind-mapping. But the weight and cost of the Pro is a draw back. I did however notice another difference between them. After using the Pro for a couple of months I went back to the r2 and the paper-like texture is very different. Both are remarkable brand, so it isn't that. I'm guessing that as well as the different pen-types - for Pro (powered) and R2 (passive) - its also the screen type. The r2 is a plastic film covered whereas the Pro is textured glass covered. I much prefer the Pro feel - its less "draggy" but still feels like writing on paper. Still I'm within the 100 days and undecided about returning it.
I keep everything in monthly journal notebooks and then custom monthly calendar PDFs I make as well. I also wish search was far better. There is just so much more they can do with this device!
Do you read books on the RM? I've owned the RM2 for years and didn't think it was possible. Are you just reading PDFs? I use mine for note taking and as my planner. I love it and have missed using color for my notes and daily planner
the drab gray screen is a lot less readable in daytime indoor/office lighting than the RM2. front light maxes out at 3 or 4 nits, versus my Kindle Oasis rated 137 nits(!) wtf.
Thank you for the video. Would appreciate your opinion. I am an attorney working 80% at home. I need something for note-taking and for marking up pdf’s (and possibly words doc). Which e-tablet would you recommend? Thanks.
I recently got the RM2. I thought about paper pro but in reality the color option won't be of much use since I'm looking for pure note taking. I also appreciate the thinness and screen size of RM2. Again as a pure note taker I don't see the added weight/larger footprint as a bonus.
I think that this device would be great for that. But... If you need to do more than that, there are other e-ink tablets that have more features and considering your an attornety, would being able to search pdfs and notes by words? If so Id suggest an e-ink one from boox. More features but if its just for productivity thats where this one shines. Just my opinion though!
I am more interested in how the extra layers in front of the panel affects the sense of really writing directly on a paper. Something that remarkable had better because it did not have a back light. Is it a lot worse? I get also why they add a backlight with the color screen that is quite a lot darker they need to use it so it don’t look so grey even in normal lighting conditions
Remarkable had the potential to be an excellent studying device for languages and more, but it doesn't support essential basic tools and languages; no Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, indian, Urdu. No chat gpt, word, pp, Excel etc. the most cheap and basic smart phones can support all this. Distraction free is a thing but it is more disteacting if you have to jump to other devices constantly.
Not sure why anyone would want to use chatgpt, word, power point, or excel on this device. The battery life would become horrible and cost would increase due to a more powerful processor as well as having to deal with app updates. Remarkable not offering any apps for download is a smart decision because the devices can't get bogged down with bloatware and will always be as responsive as they were at purchase.

Wow, she is hitting exact the points which are important to me too. A true RM user. Thanks for the Video. Much appreciated.
Thank you for a hype-free, intelligent review.
if they launched an rm2 with a frontlight (and a faster processor), i think the need for the pro mostly goes away.

Indeed. That's all it is actually.

Great review. The screen of the RPP looks yellow:(

Very helpful video
Great review.
I’d love to see a global search option. How do you overcome the lack of handwriting search?

You can drop Epubs, PDFs and other files onto the reMarkable desktop app and it'll go onto your device. Libraries rent digital books for free!
Great review thanks for that! Just wanted to ask where can i buy one ? the official site of Remarkable doesn't seem to have the paper pro yet!
Fwiw I see it there
@@CyyFyy thanks for taking time to respond. Can you please share the page link here? It will be helpful.

Really? I would return it. I have had no issue at all... It's the same reflective in day time screen as my RM

Are you using a Mac or Windows PC? If you use a Mac, an iPad is a great edition and works flawelessly with your Apple stuff.
@@edding6210 I should have made it clear, a PC. Sorry.

@@rhproductions4932 Thank you so much. Which BOOX model would you recommend?
it is not an e-ink tablet, as you say. it doesn't have any apps a tablet would have.
I don’t know if it’s me but the calligraphy pen on the pro doesn’t write that of the 2.
Do the pen tips last longer now?

the display is even thinner than the rm2 even with the frontlight
i wonder if i can read the economist/wsj on the paper pro lol
I think its still a little too small
Southpaws….UNITE!

You want an iPad bro
An ipad is what you want
Ipad ! or a Boox go 10.3 which is a Remarkable lookalike e-ink android device.
I guess, with handwriting that bad you can’t really test for (the feel of) stylus accuracy :(
It's not a back light, it's a front light.
