I became addicted and was so strung out I couldn't work a job to pay it so I started whoring myself out." To be honest I think it's ridiculous to think everything she said throughout this interview is true considering she never even looked up from the ground, she mumbled and paused constantly throughout the whole interview, she played the victim card every chance she got and never once took ownership for anything that happened in her life. And literally shit on everyone mentioned throughout the whole interview, plus she's an active addict. What 14 year old child knows the consequences or even dangers of living in the streets? Furthermore these girls are threatened and beaten in order to keep them compliant and they’re given drugs to keep them docile. As a society it should be our job as adults to protect little boys and girls at all costs, if you see something, say something. No. Drug addicts can be all kinds of people. I would agree if you said not all drug addicts are bad. Often how they are depends on how their character was before ever being fucked up high, their current state of mind, what kind of drugs they are on, and whether they are high at that moment, coming down, or having withdrawls.

Sadly enough you can have two loving parents and still end up here for other reasons that are just as tragic. I'd know as a 12+ year recovering heroin addict - which was triggered by devastating absurd and being left for dead by my (now ex)husband. The abuse and then final assault was absolutely terrible and scarring for me no doubt, but the years after of having to deal with the court system and his trial for his crimes against me sometimes felt even worse because I was forced to relive it regardless of me being mentally prepared to do so, just so I could make sure he was punished and held accountable for what he did to me. He eventually took a plea deal that was okayed by the prosecutor and myself because I couldn't manage the years long turmoil it was causing me and in turn not allowing me to functionally work as a nurse and take care of my (at the time) young children. Numbing physical and emotional pain is so very common with so many addicts. I'm so fucking glad that I've been in recovery for as long as I have been. It is amazing but I always know it's just a short trip to be right back at that terrible place I was then. Being given support, grace and appropriate medical intervention as the things that made me turn around to the place I am now and I couldn't be more grateful ❤

What you don't hear is many have no transportation to get to the destination, they could even be mentally ill.
Some of the most empathetic ppl are.

Trauma happens on many levels, and a lot of it is unknown to people because it's societally accepted. There are professionals out there who are more and more aware of how this works and also what can be done about it, even later in life (check out Gabor Maté, and Bessel van der Kolk here on YT, just to name 2). But common understanding, legislation and enforcement of legislation are very slow to pick up on the scientific understanding of trauma... often also strongly hindered by politics.

Hard question about where you see yourself gets a person to think of their life without drugs. If you can’t make a person see what their life could be like off drugs they won’t ever get off. This isn’t a disease you coddle. You fight it. Families are supposed to cut ties. Offer no financial support. You cannot enable a drug addict because ur killing them faster than they would alone. I was working full time and a student before dealing with a domestic violence incidence upon which I found myself homeless (live in my car) I still shower, try to find safe places to park. I'm still in school. No one would ever suspect I'm homeless because I don't "look homeless" but just as you said, not having a safe place to stay really effects you. I went from an accepted member of society because I had a home, to people noticing me in my car and treating me like I'm a sub human and assuming I'm an addict or did something wrong to be at where I am (I don't do drugs or anything)
I already graduated with my associates degree, and I can't wait to finish this certification program I'm in, in September so I can get a much better job. I never imagined I'd be here, but it's definately a shock. It's very hard to be positive or focus on what will better your situation when you're in a constant state of 'survival mode' and being hyper-vigilant just so you can sleep, just to exist. I can't imagine what these people go through completely living on the streets and being addicted to drugs. Must feel absolutely hopeless

Andrew Link Maybe because we are normal human being with feelings and emotions? Lol? She had a terrible and horrible childhood upbringing which obviously led her to rely on drugs to numb everything that ever went on in her life. Sure it might’ve been HER decision to end up like this on drugs instead of get something good out of it but still don’t bash anyone for ending up like this when they have been traumatized, basically trafficked, abused, abandoned, and struggling their entire life. She is hurt, and as much as she tried to get better, the only thing that sadly helps most broken people is drugs.

My husband, myself and our daughter were disowned by his entire family when he came forward with the abuse he had endured at the hands of his grandfather. Once our daughter was born he knew he had to cut contact with him for her safety. His mother said he was lying and told all of his brothers that if they ever had contact with us she would disown them, too. His mother is a classic case-study of narcissistic personality disorder. I would be willing to bet that many mothers who refuse to believe their children when told they are being abused are the very same way.
