  • With the old tired 305 out of our customers 1980 Chevy C10 "Bonanza" we've now got room for it's beautiful new heart that's MUCH stronger than anything that could be found in one of these things stock! We even do a short little unboxing video for you, have to say this thing DEFINITELY looks the part!
We've built a lot of engines. We've ordered a lot of engines. We've torn apart and put together a LOT of engines. The fit and finish of this new 383 stroker is extremely impressive, all the accessories are on, all the belts are tight, the spark plugs are in, the timing is set, EVERYTHING is ready to be picked up and dropped in the hole! Really really nice package and for the price, you really can't beat it!
Now as with anything in the hotrod world, once you change one part, you are pretty well guaranteed other parts won't fit correctly or will show their age and need to be replaced as well. In our case the biggest challenge we run into is what kind of headers to put on this thing! Initially we attempted a set of Jegs stainless steel headers, these were designed to fit the 2wd and 4wd versions of our truck. Unfortunately, they didn't. Well they fit on the passenger side but they contacted pretty severely on the drivers side lower control arm. So, that won't work. Next up we tried a set Hedman Headers (Hedman 66092) designed for 1967-1991 2WD and 4WD trucks. THESE headers did fit perfectly and cleared our initial problem however then had a different problem, unfortunately the tubes were so long and put the collectors so low that with the significant drop of our project they would be FAR to low to run down the road. So, on to option number 3 was we found set of "mid length" headers designed for an 88-99 C10 or K10 that would both clear our control arms AND allow the exhaust to be high enough to tuck up and not risk damage. Success!

Well glad to hear you're out there enjoying it, that's the whole point of building these things! Fortunately the weather gave you a gift of some beautiful days as well :) Btw, we still have your engine paperwork if you want to stop by before your 500 mile "break in check up"

Have to say for an "inexpensive crate motor" we are so far VERY impressed with this Skip White 383! We'll see once it's got some miles and abuse on it how she does! Another hotrod Chevy truck with some Lucore Automotive love ;)

@@cfmechanic It is yes. We've done motor swaps from many different sources, so far especially for the price this one is checking the boxes.

@Skip White that's an unfortunate circumstance a LOT of us are learning right now, with raw materials becoming hard to come by and the international supply chains still reeling. Crazy complicated time in the performance automotive world for sure.
We are the same way with the projects we see through, over build the hell out of them and run at 75% for a long long time!

Not sure why everyone with a C10 insists on long tube headers. They ALWAYS hang below the frame are an issue.

Put a 496 in my 67 and had to use mid- length headers.

Headers are often the most surprisingly difficult and frustrating part of a build. Ordering, waiting, testing, returning, reordering to figure out fitments clearances... not fun or sexy but you're going no where if you don't get it resolved. We tried no less than 3 sets on this C10, and tried I think 4 sets before we settled on ones for our Code 504 '53 Chevy Truck build we just wrapped up.

Thank you Sir we appreciate the love and comment! Funny enough we were actually waiting on the LS short block to show up for the RX-7 project and when this showed up that's what we thought was in the box. I cracked the top, looked in, and immediately was like "whoa what is THAT!?" It's definitely one good looking package!
