    I purchased the 2 year plan. My mother just died a month ago and I am the genealogist in the family and offered to scan all the family photo albums before we divide up them between my 5 siblings. I have an Epson FastFoto scanner, but it is cumbersome to get it to upload to google drive, took several hours to upload 200 photos. I am concerned about quality of them, but if there is a family heirloom photo I will probably scan it with Epson. For a review of the Photomyne, it worked awesome for photos in the albums. The auto crop feature worked most of the time, but you can adjust the cropping edges with the crop feature if you edit the photo in the app. I had another family member download it and log in with my login and they could scan at the same time. So, we are tackling a very large task, but I am aiming to get it down by Christmas. As I am also the executor of the large farming estate. I guess my feelings about it are the easier it is, it will more likely to get down. I also liked how it auto enhances them.

      Thanks so much for sharing your experience with Photomyne. I know there are some compelling reasons to use it... and like you said you can scan the important ones with the Epson. You have a big job!

    Thanks for your review. I purchased the Kodak PS80 a few years back. I digitized about 6,000 photos. A friend of mine told me about this scanning app. After a lot of research I agree with what you said.....it's better than nothing at all. I wondering what future generations will do with all their digital photos....like you said they are everywhere. My plan is to take 50 of my favorite photos of my family going back 4 generations and make a hard copy book. Then I will distribute the book (along with a thumb drive) to my family and cousins hoping at least a few will save for future generations.

    I have used Photomyne for years. I agree with your concerns about quality. I like it for ease of use and for volume scanning immediately. I think you can selectively scan on a professional scanner for better quality.

      Thank you Ed for watching and your thoughts. I think that is a good approach to selectively scan some photos with a traditional scanner when needed.

    I think this could be useful for scanning albums or pictures that other family members have in their homes. Most people will not let you take their photos to be scanned on a flatbed. The older members of my family would sometimes not show pictures to other family members because they were afraid others would want to take them to get copies and would not return the originals. I'm visiting a newly discovered 3rd cousin this weekend to look at her Family Photos. This service would be great to quickly make copies of albums or photos without having to ask to borrow them. I am interested in the Photomyne slide and negative apps since I have vintage slides and negatives given to me by family. Thanks for your review.

      A bed scanner has very controlled lighting. How did you control the lighting for testing the app? Some of the results seem as if too much light was used and washed them out.

    Great review Mollie, Does the App performance with resolution depend on how good your phone's camera is? Like would it recognise settings and give you better detail if you had the latest super cameras on the latest models??
    Also is it possible to get a scanner or a program to separate smaller pics if using a flatbed scanner all at once? Like I have oodles of pics, like many hundred to digitise. Doing one at a time is way time-consuming. I do get the chance to label each one on the PC then can upload to folders on Google Photos.
    Interesting you are scanning with 600DPI setting. My Canon TS 6160 only goes this far and I thought resolution not good enough. But if you are happy with it then fine with me.

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  Рік тому +1

      Hi Grittsy… I do believe having a better smartphone camera helps… but you’ll never get the detail you can with a photo scanner. Epson flatbed scanners for sure allow you to scan a bunch of smaller of photos and save them separately. Have you seen this video on organizing photos once and for all? Experience scanning on flatbed scanner. Hundreds at 300dpi in jpeg. Now I know better and have been scanning or rescanning at 800dpi or 1200dpi in TIFF format for the archival copy and making copies to work in other sizes and formats. I have the Epson V600, which I'll use for slides and negatives, but I prefer my little V39. It's quieter and still does dust removal and high resolution. Just downloaded Photomyne and hoping for good results ❤

    I am currently using the Epson 680 and really do like it. I am also using the Doxie scanner. I do have a couple of hundred pictures that were done with a 110 Instamatic that are very grainy, very faded and unclear but I don’t want to lose the images. They are also on a heavier stock because my mother had them in a photo album glued down so they are too thick to go through the Epson. They need color enhancing so I am saving them for last.

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  2 роки тому

      Hi Marva - We like the Epson 680W as well. There is a setting for "instant photos" that does allow for polaroids to go through, but not anything heavier. You are right need to scan with a different scanner. Thank you so much for watching this video!

    This video about Photomyne has been very helpful. I truly can see the quality of photo of mine is not up to my expectations either. The Epson 680 has done a great job quality wise on the majority of my photos. Now I’m getting down to the nitty-gritty. I have album pages on front and back from my grandmothers and remove the photos would destroy them. I may resort to just photographing them with my iPhone as I have gotten good results there for these photos that can’t be put through the Epson 680 or the Doxie Go. I don’t have a printer/scanner so may invest in a flatbed scanner just for that purpose.

    I’m really glad you told the sizes of the photo scans when you compared the app to a regular photo scanner. Would the Photomyne photos print out ok at a larger size?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  3 роки тому +1

      I wouldn't trust more than a 5x7 or 8 x 10 max. When you upload photos for printing, often the service will tell you if it's going to be poor quality. You might see that explanation point over your photo.

    What size in avareh are the pictures ,ou scanned? Are they good enough to make prints and lastly what light would you use when you lay them out in order not to get glare on the scanned copies?

      Hi Andreas - those photos varied from 4 x 6 up to 8 x 10. I'd say it is a personal call as to whether not prints would be of good quality. I was in an office setting with fluorescent lighting for the test and moved around to avoid glare. I am no expert in using this app for scanning photos as I use high speed and flatbed scanners for all of my work.

    I hope this comment finds you well. Some photo albums cannot be easily be disassembled to lay the pages flat. The other thing is going to someone's home and discovering a photo album that has some part of my family in it. Your phone is the only scanner you have at this point, and you do not know if you will ever be back. My wish is for an improved version of Photomyne with four additional features. 1. Single image setting so you can take a photo of the complete album page, and not break it up yet. 2. Meta data note entry in the album and all the photos within. 3. A level camera guide to help with taking the best square on picture possible. And 4. Photomyne to use the camera's resolution/lens settings. Highest resolution and macro lens if available.

    Once you’ve scanned everything then what? It sits in your phone or computer and you’ll rarely ever see them again. We transferred all our tapes to DVDs and we never watch them. It like wedding videos. Waste of time and money.

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there, thanks for watching! I actually teach that after organizing and scanning, people need to share and preserve photos for future generations. I would agree, most of my clients probably don't access old photos routinely, but they do look through them for a specific photo or groups of photos. (especially for milestone events.)
      Our next generations of kids really should learn about what life was like before all of this technology arrived . . . and I believe families are strengthened when they take the time to share photos and stories.
      With regards to VHS tapes that have been transferred to DVDs, I agree that is not ideal. We actually transfer videos to digital files and teach our clients how to edit the important parts out (which is like 5-10 minutes of a two hour tape in some cases.)
      Anyway, I think the investment of time and money is a personal choice. I have a section of my family who sees no value in the old photos and finds them actually hurtful to look at due to very bad mental health issues that go back.
      Thank you so much for watching and sharing your thoughts!
