    Brother, I am so fluid, my cup runneth over. Seriously though, people are packages of programmed responses that evolve over time as we try out different algorithms. Ego is an illusion. Duality is an illusion. We are one. The Tao that can be spoken is not the true Tao. Your goals, dreams and aspirations are all temporary distractions, they keep you in the game. Who you will become is already written in the fabric of time and space. The best you can do is experience it honestly and embrace the energy field of which you are a temporary expression. Suffering is the alternative. Suffering for those dreams and aspirations. Let go of that. But you see its not up to you. If you are right and I am right and ego is an illusion then its not up to you because you don't exist. You cant have it both ways.

      PS - I like your videos, they have come upon my path in life, but that path was not for me to choose freely; yes, our brains ARE decision making machines but the factors which weigh into the decisions are not; choices are real, free choices are a logical contradiction and part of the illusion of ego. We are part of a larger drama and its almost like watching a movie plot unfold; please note that this does not negate NLP, which is an algorithm that works (fairly well I think) on a lower level of consciousness; some people may live their entire lives and never hear of it; not their choice. They (their ego) doesn't really exist but as a façade on the stage. Shakespeare was really a genius at understanding human nature and the drama of human life; there are fates that we cannot avoid. If this comment makes you angry, its not your free choice, nor is any other response; in some way, Stuff Happens, is all we can say for sure - Cheers, brother - you are helping those who have crossed your path - that's all you can do, you are part of the drama and so am I. Weird right.

    Since I found your channel, I am watching your videos every day so I could improve my life and life of a people around me. I have really BIG problem with smoking addiction, I tried million times to quit, but somehow I always back to that bad habit.
    Smoking is my biggest weakness and I am smoking since I am 17 ( now I am 39). Sport does not help me, I am regular in gym last 20 years, so that is not the answer in my case.
    I work as music producer mostly and sometimes as video editor or graphic designer, so most of my time I spend in front of my laptop or in studio.
    When I work I smoke a lot, but when I quit smoking even when I do not have that urge to light a cigarette (5-7 days after I quit) , I can't seat and work, I need to do something manually or just to walk outside.
    I lost confidence in myself because of that addiction, I do not trust to myself anymore that I will keep my word and that I will complete something that I started, so this is really big issue for me. Thank you in advance for reply and that you for free knowledge that you are generously sharing with us.

    I feel like my sense of self is more fluid but flexibility requires different experiences. So what I try to do is challenge myself to complete activities that are new to me, such as learning a new skill, creating a new project, eating at a new restaurant, or listening to music outside my usual playlists. Stepping outside of what I typically know is easier said than done, but I do it.

    I have been reading the book Transforming Your Self by Steve Andreas. The thing that strikes me is how fluid the members of seminar audience referenced in the book are able to have such rich and vivid representational examples of their qualities. My experience with the people I encounter in my world and myself don't have the strong images, feelings, and auditory renditions of their database elements as the seminar participants represented in the book would lead you to believe, let alone manipulate the aspects of their examples with the facility that they do. Am I missing something here? Incidentally I do agree with you that you or no one else can truly know who you are, and we are essentially fluid and resourceful, and that's why we can learn and change.

    I am liking all the videos so far! But, this one I am having difficulty with some of the concepts. It's nothing I would be able to get into in the comments section here (discussions are best taken place elsewhere), because I think it centers philosophically about chosen words used here that simply don't work with the idea presented. I am *almost* there (here?) but there is some more depth to see for sure.

    • @neurocosm
      @neurocosm 4 роки тому +1

      @@DamonCart It's not really a question, but I'll need a reframe of the use of the word "lie" as a component of a growth mindset. I could not use that in my practice unless I was using it out-worldly from the individual themselves (probably to describe the behavior of another person in reference to the client to overcome something the 3rd party was doing, but I digress). Maybe something like un-truth or non-truth. I'll need to think about it, and possibly even come up with a definition, then a new word :) I am good at that :D

    • @aaronthomas5314
      @aaronthomas5314 5 років тому +2

      Solid meaning things about myself that I like and don't want to change. Ideally over time my core should become more and more solid as I examine outer components and try to solidify them in a way that I'm happy with. Unfortunately old habits and mindsets can be extremely hard to break, so my core is always being added to, but not subtracted from. At least in theory

    Why do you say most affirmations are destructive?

    • @DamonCart
      @DamonCart  Рік тому +1

      If they're affirmations regarding the way you want to feel about yourself, they won't work because self-esteem has to do with an evaluation of yourself. If you want to change your self-esteem, you have to change your internal representations so that you evaluate yourself differently. These types of affirmations may feel like they put you in a momentary state of feeling good about yourself but the moment that fades away people often feel worse about themselves.
      If you're using affirmations to try to convince yourself that you are something you are not, like a millionaire, some part of you has to reconcile this with the truth, that you are not. This creates an internal conflict where one side is trying to keep you sane and connected to reality while the other tries to slip into delusion.

  • @ABB14-11
    @ABB14-11 Рік тому

    These are just some semantic corrections but a concept can be real. Something being immaterial doesn’t mean it’s not real. I had a conversation with in philosophy class where we discussed concept, truth and reality. It’s problematic to call self-concept a lie, or just calling anything that you’re not certain about as a lie is because people actually become delusional because of that. From being just plain wacky or downright gaslighting other people

    • @DamonCart
      @DamonCart  Рік тому

      Calling self-concept a lie may not be the most accurate term for the self-concept, but what it does do is draw your attention to the fact that we create our sense of self. It's not real. You can not say definitively who you are (nor can anyone else) so we have to make it up. This doesn't mean that it's completely inaccurate. We can know some things and we can base ourselves off of what we know so that we're not delusional. The very fact that we have self-esteem (also a concept but feels very real to us) means that our sense of self is just a concept. How we feel about that concept we call self is what is called self-esteem. Change your concept of yourself and you will change your self-esteem.
      For example, what I think about a rock that I'm holding in my hand has no effect on the rock. However, what I think about myself can change who I am. In fact, what I think about myself is creating who I know myself to be. This is true for everyone.

    Why do you think most affirmations are more destructive than productive? and do you have some examples of what the good and bad affirmations are?

    • @DamonCart
      @DamonCart  4 роки тому +3

      If you're using affirmations to try to tell yourself that you are someone you're not (but you want to be) or that you possess a certain ability that you don't, part of you knows the truth so it creates an inner conflict between what is true (or what you believe to be true) and what you want to be true. This will hold you back. Fake it until you make it is a bad strategy. It can work sometimes but it usually creates more problems than it solves. Also, if you're trying to gain confidence through affirmations, the confidence isn't real. It's weak and will shatter easily. True confidence comes from experience. For example, if you want to be confident in flying a plane, then you need to practice flying a plane. Affirmations aren't going to help you. In fact, if you were able to convince yourself that you can fly a plane well by using affirmations when you've only had a few lessons, you can create a dangerous situation. Now if you are highly capable at flying a plane but you're not confident, NLP is a great tool for helping you connect your capability with the appropriate confidence. Affirmations will only give you false confidence at best which is what arrogance is.

      @@DamonCart thank you for that very good reply 🙌🏾 so giving yourself positive affirmations on personal behaviour is somewhat more appropriate than skills not yet learned? For exampel ; I am always motivated to work on my emotions.

    • @DamonCart
      @DamonCart  4 роки тому +4

      @@craydimpel9289 If that last sentence is an affirmation, again, it's not true. You're not always anything and part of you knows that. Also putting that kind of pressure on yourself is unrealistic and destructive. Match your affirmations with real life experiences you've had like "I'm an extraordinary person" while you think of extraordinary things you've done. "I am a grateful person" as you think of all of the things you're grateful for.
