diyforknucklehe... How to make a stool from recycled wood. The rustic wooden stool l’m making in this video is dual purposed. Initially it’s for a child but it can also be used as a step stool. I made this stool from hardwood fence palings but you could also use pallet wood. It’s a very simple stool to build and should only take a couple of hours or so to make.
To finish the stool off l give it a rustic paint job and then seal it with a clear varnish.
    Before l go on...

Great and easy idea there, Shane, thanks. I think I may just ramp this up, add a bottom shelf, and make a pair of nightstands for the Misses & I.

I looked through/hunted for a video on making a simple stool that didn't involve angles or fancy cuts, and looked and looked. Finally found yours! Thank you! Your design is exactly what I had in mind, very straight forward, aesthetically pleasing, sturdy, and potentially adjustable to any size. I can't wait to go through my wood stash and get started! Thank you again!

I like these stools, Uncle Knackers. I've watched this video a few times, but no matter how many times I view it......there is never a Dad Joke. I'm disappointed, but I still enjoy watching.
    Stay safe, my friend.

Love the simplicity, yet great look of this stool. Exactly what I was looking for. I made mine 23 inch in height for my mom in her bathroom. Very sturdy and will be easier for her to get up, being she is 96. Added a cushion and a shelf on the bottom. Turned out beautifully. Thank you so much for posting your video.

Thanks Uncle Knackers, for another fast a neat little project. I made a little pallet table using your design for the yard and the camp fires. Always need small table to put my drink and snack, while watching the scraps burns.
    Have a good one, John.

Nice builds! A cool feet-chah (hey--I'm tryin'!) is a handle to make the stool easy to pick up and move: leave a 1" wide slot between the boards in the center of the stool's top. It allows your fingers in so you can easily one-hand it when you need to move it.

Definitely a WAY better colour choice with the white Vs the green IMO. Nice shade of green, but the white just goes better against the dark fence pales.

Excellent video! I used the plan to make outdoor coffee tables. I just changed the dimensions - legs to 16 inches, frame also 16 inches (keep the measuring down!) and top boards 20 inches. I dispensed with the lower stretchers altogether. Worked great!

    Really appreciate this.
I found the cutting list very confusing though.
    8 (leg parts) @ 260mm
    2 strips @ 270mm
    2 strips @ 240mm
I gather that doesn't include the "side braces", for which measurements or anything apart from putting them on, aren't mentioned? They look less than 55mm, so they seem to be a complete mystery really - or did I miss something?
Nor are any measurements mentioned for the actual seat - and since it extends outward from the legs, it would be important to note?

    • @rebreb28
      @rebreb28 7 років тому +1

I just found this vid here and I agree with you. I've played the vid over and over to find the same thing because I was missing it too what you just mentioned.
With these type of vid's it would be nice if there was a cutting plan with each vid.
I hope he can still write it down here below the vid, because it isn't anywhere either in the replies he gave to some.

Thank you for your idea for making a simple and strong stool from pallet wood.
Giving a coat of paint to the stool top and clear varnish to the rest of the stool was not a good idea. You should have used the clear varnish for the entire stool like you did for the step stool.

Hi, thanx for beautiful work but I have no idea what all those tools were. Was that a nail gun or was it screws? Also why the glue before the initial put tog on the legs? Is it just to hold it in place? I will rewatch to see what I missed but being a neophyte I just couldn't grasp how I could do it. I have a drill, recip saw, chop saw but no table saw so I don't think I could get the 2" for the legs. love both of them paint looks great you are a gr8 combo of showmanship, display, teaching and camera work. Is someone else running your camera? What camera? I am looking for one but haven't begun the research. Thanx so much, subscribed already.

Thanks Owen. I find Bondall, Clear Satin Varnish to be the go. It's oil based, well priced and the finish is pretty good. Cheers mate

Awesome as always! The little step stool looks really cute, I'd paint it in pink or light blue for the kids. Very handy stuff..
What about some little shelf? :)

Hello. I really like your projects because of the simplicity and the wonderful end product. I have a question on the nail gun you use. What are the specs. I am planing to get one but I am not sure which one will work. Thanks.

G'day mate and thanks for the feedback....much appreciated. My gun is from Paslode. It's a 16 gauge Bradder and works really well for my projects. In actual fact, a lot of professional contractors use the same gun. It's slightly pricier at $760.00 (Australian Dollars) but in my opinion it's worth it as you just don't get the power and performance from cheaper models....in my opinion. Good luck👍

Hi Uncle Knackers, you are the first You Tuber that I have actually subscribed to! Loving watching your posts as I am rediscovering my love for woodwork and you just make it look so easy and fun ( and you also remind me a bit of uncle Arthur from the comedy company lol). Anyhow, off track, but I was wondering what the nail gun was that you use in your videos?

Hi Sarah. Thanks for the comment and for the sub. It's much appreciated. The gun l use is a Paslode. It's a pretty good gun. If you get one, make sure you use only Paslode gas cartridges. Cheers

    • @diyforknuckleheads

The spark thing was me grinding off the nails that had come through the other side of the wood.

what angle are you cutting the legs ? keep up the good work

    • @diyforknuckleheads
      @diyforknuckleheads  7 років тому +1

Hi Sharon. I don't really have a set angle as your cut will change in accordance to the width of your stool leg. Just run some lines on the leg and see what you think suits. Good luck! 👍

Just an FYI - Don't know if you actually use that 30 second cleaner, but if you look at the ingredients you will see that all it is - is really expensive bleach. Yep, the same stuff you do your laundry (whites) or whatever with. $30 a gallon vs. $3 a gallon hmm, hard choice there.
