Let's Talk about what Mel Kirk From Zen Studios had to say about working with Arcade 1up. Also, what do you think about Jaws Stern Pinball being announced? - Ігри
Thanks for linking the episode, guys. So it was actually the internet connection freezing at that very moment of Mel dropping a truth bomb, so myself and Jared also didn't get to hear what he said. In my moment of panic I failed to realize follow up was needed, which has me cringing as I watch your reaction! That being said, Mel is very careful with his words and doesn't burn bridges if he can help it. License agreement is not exclusive to AtGames, so if Arcade 1Up were willing to meet Zen's specs it would still be an option. As Mel said, they're not in the hardware business, so if they can get their software out there on many different products, they will.
As for the AtGames limitations, our question was specifically about SSF through OTG, and I don't think Mel quite got that. Our advice is to be very vocal on Reddit and Discord Zen channels and make sure they know what we want out of cab support, such as working with SSF kits and having animated backglass native as an asset. I don't believe anything will change in game functionality (maybe those powerups will be gone, but who knows) but I also don't believe the AtGames version will look anywhere near as good as the Steam version, which is more what I think he was talking about.
Lastly, I do want to clarify Mel's position with Zen. HIs day to day is predominantly dealing with licensing, partnerships, and keeping the studio running as COO. He used to be very involved with game functionality and more of the tech end as well as community relations, but that's now in the hands of people like Peter 'Deep' Grafl and Akos. As such, we've stopped asking him nitty gritty questions and stick with where the studio is headed and product he'd like to bring to market.

@@therexershow Absolutely. I've also built a PinSim cabinet that I'll be comparing against. The part of getting the ALP 4K that excites and frightens me at the same time is getting OTG to work, hopefully well. I'm starting at ground zero of knowledge there! I'll be ordering a new vid card once it's here and I know exactly what I need (RTX 4060ti or 4070?) And then it's discovering the joys of Baller Installer and *gulp* VPX

what? No. You mean an actual box that it came in? 19k is so wishy washy its hilarious. One day he hates 1up, but then realizes he is alienating his whole base, so then he goes back and talks good about them. hahah.
He got an open box street fighter deluxe and the entire video is him pulling every part out and inspecting and describing it. The thumbnail is a clickbait “was I scammed?” He wasnt.

Hey guys I believe the small boat on the Jaws playfield is Ben Gardners boat not Qiunts. The upper playfield is the Orca.
someone said it's Hooper's boat. But still a miss, that's such a small piece of th movie, it should have been orca. The Orca is so Iconic , it should have been right there in the middle.

The white boat is not a miss- it is Hooper's boat from the movie- NOT the "Orca" (Quint's boat). Hooper and Brody took it out once, at night, looking for Jaws.

@@therexershow In Stern's 6 minute video, Gomez or Elwin says that the upper playfield is supposed to be the Orca... so you need to go Premium or LE if you want the iconic boat.

I bought the Marvel pinball and after two days I put it on Market place and sold it within the same week of my purchase.

The upper playfield is the Orca. The middle one is Ben Gardner's boat. It even has his severed head. Watch the videos. You'll see it.
Yeah. Someone said it was Hoopers boat. But I get it now , such a short scene . And pro doesn’t have the upper play field for orca or the white boat . I would have taken an additional orca gadget instead of the white boat. If people are like me , they won’t remember what that boat is, but the die hards Will definitely like the attention to detail and aligning with the story .
I love pinball but I'm also honest with myself. I live pay check to pay check in a small apartment. A couple of times a year I'm able to put money to side. I picked up a couple of New Wave Replicades and Numskull mini arcades and I enjoy them but I'd love to get an affordable table top pinball machine or if anyone pinball games are worth finding say on steam or consoles I gotta look harder. I actually bought the American Doll Pinball Machine (It's okay you can all laugh) and It's really solid mini machine that saves the high score. I just needed some kind of pinball fix.
You should start with adding pinball fx to your Pc , buying a couple famous games , playing with a controller then finding a pinball shell and maybe putting a pc into a cheap shell . Maybe find a old ALp on marketplace. Then just use your pc in it. There’s some options.

Pulp fiction is an old school layout, no bells and whistles , but people seem to love it.
The new ATGames 4kpinball will be a gamechanger.
I personally think the first ALp was just fine. OTG to the first ALP with FX and 1080 is just fine. This new one seems overkill and the price is too much.
@therexershow yeah, it is somewhat of a gamble but if you got the dry powder it could very well be worth it.
I have some spare money for pinball machines. But I don't have the space for more than 1 of those monsters.
I think I would get bored of playing that same pinball in a month. Stern should try to do an all digital 4k screens, 4k backglass, 4k dmd, surround sound system with excitors/thumpers to feel the balls moving around.
Then have a market place built in so they can sell every table they ever made for $25 to $100. Have it work with their app also to keep track of each tables progress.
This would open up pinball to alot more people who loves everything about pinball. I want 5 pinball machines. I just don't have a spare $60,000 or space for them. Take a chance Stern it could change the industry and put alot more money in your pockets while making alot of fans happy.
People get tired of their pins then they trade them or sell and get a new one. I’m not tired of mine yet. I try to play so much that I get bored. Plus I’m not that good so I can’t even beat the games yet.
Pedretti is supposedly doing TZ, there was a recent large order of TZ ramps from a supplier for a unnamed company.

I can't see unless I squint and squint some more. I may just see at that time John D watching me closely very closely. I immediately at that time became Sergeant Schultz. Then again it is hard to see anything with all those 1 up balls in your face. Finally I'm excited for Jaws and I may give it a go. I may just wait a couple of months and see what else Stern has in store for me wallet. Great show again you two spot on again...

Atgames will have SSF. I think Zen will finally embrace that, but unfortunately won't for Steam users. (They really dislike Steam cabinet users for some reason). For the software they would have had to change the UX to finally be cabinet friendly. FX3 and FX from Steam can't be completely controlled on a cabinet without a 3rd party front end.
In the interview they discuss some of that. Mel discusses the trials and tribulations with DIY users in fx and sorta promised ease of integration in the future. Time will tell I guess.

Look into it but it seems 1up didn’t care about alot of products like we do. It’s just a profit margin for them.
That pcb was dog shi$. Couldn’t even run 1080. Laughable and people promoted it.

Thanks Mel. It’s Good we all look bad at the 1up experience and get a laugh from it. The Atgames launch isn’t going great, lag glitches, bad 3D effects, plunger. I feel like Atgames bit off more than they chew with this chip set. I do worry about the “look” it gives zen. People see these tables run poorly and then they get turned off. They may not go try these tables through steam on a nice pc and then you lose sales. Are these partnerships hurting ….
@@therexershow at the end of the day, the chip set is the decision of the manufacturer. Having a bad experience out there is bad for everyone involved, but ultimately it is the worst for the player.
We are very early with AtGames, Zen is committed to doing everything possible to make the Legends 4K / Collector's Edition Pinball platform awesome. This starts with first nailing the gameplay.
I do see massive investment and a lot of determination from everyone at AtGames to be a world class company. We will get it right.
@@KirkMelchiah Mel, what's going on over there now with Atgames? They say you guys can't fix it so you're using Epic and Google to fix this. How is epic and google supposed to fix these issues if you guys can't do it in over a year?
Despite what people's opinions are of 1Up, they will still sell. Not everyone can afford to purchase a real Golden Tee for 3 grand or any other real arcades. Some people (Rex) can build arcades themselves, but not everyone can do that either. People will still purchase 1Ups to still have some sort of arcade in their home to bring in that feel from being a kid. The average person doesn't build or have the funds or space to make those type of purchases. 1Ups can be modded to be better. Bottom line is the small number of people who want an arcade cannot afford, don't have the space, or have the knowledge and tools to build an arcade. I'm also sure someone from Zen will not discourage people from making a 1Up purchase despite their opinion. I get what you guys are saying and I enjoy it but what I said is how it is fellas.
Great point. I've built a couple full size arcades, one in a Defender cab and one cocktail as well as owning some original games, and at this point I actually prefer the smaller machines (but they're too expensive). As someone who maintains four 70s era pinballs, I'm not a fan of the small electronic pinball machines. My A1up Golden Tee is great and gets regular play.
Nobody arguing people won’t buy , especially when the price is right. But I can guarantee there are ton of people who paid $700 for these pins and have complete buyer remorse. And I’m sure all the gamers who actually k ow anything about VPIN either didn’t buy one, or had the worse buyers remorse and sold them . Heck , even the shills sold them all.
@therexershow love the content though! Also, i live on the island of O'ahu Hawaii, so getting real arcades out here is basically impossible! Matt Hooper was Richards name in Jaws by the way. Also, Go Lions, Red Wings, Tigers, and yes... even the horrible Pistons, lol!

The Boat is Hoopers, The orca is the upper playfield would be weird to have two Orcas on the playfield.
Yea. Makes sense I guess. I’d rather see another orca boat in the middle with the shark popping up. Jaws chewed through orcas. And the other boat is such a small part of the movie, but if they are following the story of the movie , it makes sense that they were once in that boat. But then what is on the pro model? There’s no upper playfield and no Hoopers boat. So is there no orca gadget ?
@@therexershow Not sure I wish the Pro had Orca somewhere, I think that is a miss, The Orca is as important as any other character in the movie!
For the price, it’s my 2nd most played cab (Marvel Pinball). Not being 1080p is the only downside imo. I added the new style pcb after I had it for a few years. Got on release and still works. At games looks good, but it’s a lot more than 549 delivered.
The $1300 plus price tag for the ALP 4k isn’t worth it either. By the time you’re done adding everything , including paying for games , they will be over $2k. Pass. Have you ever played FX pinball on a pc though? That’s where it’s at for VPIN. Not this cheap crap .
Went to bed after watching your stream and had the worst nightmare. I dreamt that I had purchased an arcade1up pinball machine. Woke up in a cold sweat. Thankfully, it was just a dream. Although, my bedroom was 3 degrees warmer due to that overheating pcb😂

Rexer, when you talked about us getting tired of stuff And not playing our systems anymore. I just updated ,my pixlecadelcd on my Rec Room Masters mutlicade. Now before the marque, it shows the top scores for the game. I had one game , asteroids deluxe to test out the function. First place score was 800pts, 2nd and 3rd place was 000pts!! Hahaha. I'm more of a builder or modder then gamer. Lol. I build the most powerful gaming pc's on earth just to play old school RTS GAMES LOL. YES , I'm the last person probably out there playing PC RTS games , building up bases and sending in tiny armies to get slaughtered!! Lol 😂 I do for some reason install every neogeo system and collection on every device I own. I just love baseball stars 1 & 2 neogeo. Great show as always.
A lot of us enjoy fixing the games as much as playing , or modding, nothing wrong with that. These other guys just buy and buy and buy and act like they are playing them and they love every game , when the sad reality is they only enjoy doing YT videos on them.

I read somewhere that retailers determine the price of the stock and A1 has to go off what they say. I dont know how true that is. These 700 dollar prices definitely makes me think twice on them, but i always wait for the sales like a recent 299 on a few. I am more in for the cabinets that realistically i probably would never be able to get like Tron. I know nintendo would never be licensed, but if it does happen, id be down to see a dk cab and cocktail review from you on them 😅
The price always starts with what the manufacture sells it at to the retailer , then the retailer has set margins they have to make. I’m sure those margins are higher for 1ups because of the space they take up and such , but if 1up would sell them cheaper to the retailer , then they would be cheaper to us. Doesn’t matter because they all get clearanced out anyway , just be patient.
Great insight that makes a lot of sense. Personally for me the cap should be at 500 retail. Extras like stools I personally don't need increasing the cost. Any higher than that there's some real machines you can get at that range and even cheaper if you're patient enough (saw a centipede cabaret and dk cocktail for a cheaper price than these). Definitely no rush on my end I treat this as a hobby and like the idea of what the gameroom can look like for the right cost.
As for the JAWS pinball. That boat looks like Fisher Price and where is Roy Scheider (Martin Brody) on the table art. He was one of the main characters. I am sure it will be fun to play though. It is a new pinball. I will play it on location and enjoy it I am sure. Also the first 2 JAWS movies were good. Jaws 3D. Ummm not so much. The Pro you at least get to see the JAWS toy on the playfield.
someone said that boat is the one Hooper drove. Why not ORca though, doesn't make sense. ANd yes, Not much Martin Brody art, besides the one where they don't show his face. Is he dead? Maybe they couldn't get his likeness?
Roy Sheider died 15 years ago. He is not on this pinball because Stern didn't get the copyrights from his family ... And for me it's a big problem: Jaws without Brody/Sheider it's like Dr No without Sean Connery!

The 1Ups were $300 at Costco which was the perfect price. My 5 year old loved playing the display unit. If marketed for kids and price point it’s fine. The PCB’s dying is ridiculous. They were a gateway for Michael B for real pinball which isn’t a bad thing

I have a remedial to non existent knowledge level of pinball. If I were going to splurge on ONE machine, it would be the Weird Al machine which is more of a personal thing than anything.

As far as jaws the premium i'm not Impressed, the pro looks much better. Remind me of Jurassic park, but where is the watch tower? Where is the sand???? I am very underwhelmed at best way too much blue
You make some good points. !! Not really impressed with the shark coming up from underneath. At least JP had the raptor cage and the moving trex on the premium. I think pro will do just fine.

Arcade up is good for what it is. I'd rather just play the old console games on my tv with an arcade joystick, but for $300 it aint bad. Those pinball machines are amazing but built for rich people. My favorite old pinball machines were: WWF wrestling, Freddy Kreuger, and the Terminator.
1ups are good when you get them on blowout sale. But these things were 700$ and the shills were promiting it. Sad. I don't remember Freddy Kreuger but the other two pins i do. Nice.
