    This year certainly saw an unusual increase in wind synth offerings and interest from the public, I feel. Between this, the new Akai EWI one, the AE 30 Pro, the YDS-150 and the Emeo, I feel there's something for everyone. It would be great to get a comprehensive comparison video

    Thank you for a well presented demonstration and evaluation of the Sylphyo. Cheers from Seattle! 🍻

    If you DON't use the sax fingerings and use the EWI fingering system, there are a ton of alternate fingerings, so that's a rather unfair criticism, considering it gives you 50+ options for fingering systems.

    Well, I’d love to have one. You can configure it to Native American flute setting.

    Well different strokes for different folks. Nice presentation though always good to have extreme close-ups on components also I don't believe I heard any discussion of the tactile response of the keys or switches - how much pressure is required etc. To me the sounds are mediocre. Having to use an external box is also a pain. The number one question I have is never the number one question presenters give which is not the sound but how useful and expressive it is as a controller driving external MIDI VSTi or hardware or creating sequences. All that physical motion for controller data is not my cup of tea either. A bite sensor is much more intuitive. My vintage Yamaha WX5 along with the VL70m or a slew of alternative hardware and software is still king in my book. If Roland had made the AE30 pro with Yamaha YDS150 keys instead of their clacky buttons, well they might have had something special. Just my 3 cents. I've seen and heard great music produced by the Sylphyo so it's obviously a wonderful instrument in the right hands.

      The touchpads are EXTREMELY sensitive, the very lightest touch is responded to. It uses the same technology as computer touchpads. I don't see why having a remote box is a disadvantage, remote control is terrific, but you don't need it. You can use a direct USB connection as well. the built-in sounds aren't really the selling point, the expressive mappings are. Not only the movements, but the slider that works from the top, from the bottom, or from the middle moving up or down. That's four slider messages at once, plus the pitch bend capabilities with the fingers themselves.

    Look up the opening theme for Sanford and Son. You’re first sounds would have been perfect for playing it.

    Thanks for the vid. I am still not sure which wind controller to get for use as trumpet player. I am thinking about the Sylphyo, one of the EWIs or maybe the Berglund NuEVI. The NuEVI looks the bomb, but as far as I know, has a waiting list of 2 years or something like that. And is the most expensive one. And that's even without even trying it out before buying.
    Do you have any experience with the NuEVI or NuRAD?

      The Sylphyo can use EVI fingerings if you want to try them.

    Hi, I'm considering getting one of these. I play with right hand on top and intend to use the Native American Flute minor pentatonic fingering. Will this be a problem with right hand on top?

    personally, it doesn’t sound the best, not even good. Its selling points seem to be its multiple fingerings and expressiveness for certain instruments

    • @davidmdyer838
      @davidmdyer838 2 роки тому

      Actually, its best selling point is the variability of controller messages it can send. Any message can send any controller number. It also has the most sensitive breath sensor of any controller.

    Might be good for sound effects for Dr. Who and it has some interesting functions, but - not for me.

    • @davidmdyer838
      @davidmdyer838 3 роки тому

      The built-in sounds are not its selling point, its breath sensitivity and multiple, fully assignable continuous controllers are.

    The motion of the vibrato makes it a no for me...

    • @davidmdyer838
      @davidmdyer838 3 роки тому

      Good thing you're not a violinist. It works for the NU EVI and NU RAD, and of course you can do vibrato the normal way with your breath, or use the slider for the LFO.

      Imagine the jokes from the band member's and audience every time you applied vibrato...

    • @davidmdyer838
      @davidmdyer838 2 роки тому

      @@johnmika6512 Is it weirder than a mod wheel, a guitar bend vibrato or whammy, a violin vibrato, the face you have to make when you play a sax? People are used to wind instruments being static, I think all its movements add stage appeal.

    that vibrato is a hard no for me

    • @davidmdyer838
      @davidmdyer838 2 роки тому

      The vibrato is adjustable in response and you control how fast and wide it is as you play. It's like the bite vibrato of the EWI.

    Those cheesy presets sound well-nigh unusable, for any style of music.

    looks like large baby bottle.. I'm after a wind instrument that emulates real instrument sounds well. You cant call it flute fingering without the thumb Bflat key.
    The test for these should be that a player can play technically advanced repertoire for the emulated instrument on it at full speed.. otherwise its just a toy.
