WATCH: bit.ly/3YjLPbT In our exclusive interview, Richie talks about his Flying V Custom, live gear, recovery from his recent health scare and how he nearly missed the call to join Judas Priest!
I got to hang out with Richie and talk guitars with him for about a half hour and he was just the nicest frickin' guy! He gave me some sage words of encouragement and said that "we're ALL always trying to get better, no matter what level you're at. Just keep playing." Very cool...I feel really lucky!
I always thought Richie was one of the most surgically precise players I'd ever seen. Very rarely do you see him miss a note. It's always super clean and articulate. Dedicated to the perfection of his craft.

First words out of his mouth here are “Nik Kershaw” hell yeah, Nik is a great songwriter. Watched til the end, going to have to give his Priest material a listen - he plays guitar like a fierce lightning storm!
Chuck Garric from Alice Cooper's band is currently rocking the 2019 Gibson Thunderbird bass and the Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro on tour. Any plans of having him on your UA-cam channel ?
I had the privilege of hangin' out with Chuck and Chris (Beasto Blanco) and both of them were just totally cool! Chuck looks like he could kill you for no reason but he was as nice as can be. Real easy to shoot the shit with.
Next time: more rock, less talk. Unless the talk is more specific to the guitar. Don't get me wrong, I dig Richie, but I would have preferred more talk about the V.
Yeah, it's for people who don't want to have to take off the gear to get up under the full pickguard. I don't care, I think they should go with what looks cooler
Bet it's that fakelite shit. Gibson has just really took a big ole greasy fat shit on not only their own legacy but, also all of us who used to love their guitars
Sometimes I think Richie sounds like Nigel Tufnel- only he can REALLY play guitar! I mean he is a freaking fantastic guitar player - and a super nice guy. I've done 2 video Masterclasses with him in the last year and looking forward to meeting him in person this November.
KK can't stop ruining his reputation with his childlike rants. The dude is one of my faves but he can't just let go the fact hes been replaced with a younger version of himself. He should be proud not sour.
I have always wanted a Gibson flying v, but the quality control was so poor on my les paul studio and my thunderbird bass I bought in the past, I think i'm going to get something else. Good luck with your future though Gibson after putting a few 100 in to my Gibson's they are nice now, but I should not have had to do that.
I have a Gibson Flying V 2018 T I bought last year. I haven't any issues whatsoever with it. The tone is addicting. I think Gibson can be fine if they get their head out of the sound and just make good guitars. Quality over quantity.
What Richie Faulkner says about the influences of people like Bryan Adams on mire recent Priest material isn't necessarily true, at least not across-the-board. I can remember hearing Bryan's voice along with that of Richard Marx as I was growing up and wondering why they were so frequently associated with MOR or tender ballads. It almost always seemed to me as if both cats would be better suited for the same kind of material that Priest and their contemporaries are known for. Nothing proved that for me more than the opening cut from Richard's 1991 *Rush Street* album, "Playing with Fire". He co-wrote that awesome funk-metal fusion song with Steve Lukather, another guy wrongfully categorized by ballads and soft rock. Funny I clicked on this video after having viewed the 5 W world short history of the flying V. I've enjoyed hearing what Richie has to say about the influence other artists have had on Priest's music.

Agreed. Hideous looking neck/body junction on this one. body goes too far up the neck. It looks like a cheap bolt-on neck version. The '58 V has a cleaner and more refined look to it, hands down. Even the pick guard looks like it doesn't know where it's supposed be. Trying to change a time proven design , just because you can, is simply irresponsible .
Well the pickguard is so people can take it off without taking off the gear as well, and the truss rod and logo are actually old style. Still, I think the 67 version looks better with this
I have the old 58 style pick guard and it restricts bridge height adjustment on the treble side, this one appears to have avoided that issue, prefer the headstock on this as well but there's another version with the larger truss rod cover more familiar with v's, also about £300 cheaper here ? Not sure what other differences there are
You're right.. about mid 2019 they made some minor changes to the V's and Explorers and tagged them as the "originals collection." The pearl inlay was one of the changes. PDX Guitar Freak did a good youtube video discussing the few changes that were made. I got mine (first V ever) in June and have trouble putting it down sometimes.. great guitar!
