I used this method last year to fish very deep over a drop off covered in Mussels to catch a 37lb mirror on Christmas Eve in Amsterdam in 35ft of water from my boat in 4ft. 👍 Great stuff Steve. Btw, I add a 1oz lead on a running snag safe clip about 4ft above the main lead so that last section should be pinned down but will break off if it gets stuck.
Most of the time it’s all in our own heads. If it scared the fish then it wouldn’t be a successful method but in fact my catch rates went up noticeably when I switched to this set up.

@@greatbongo33 you don't need to fish far out - but where to start? it's an impossible answer as you need to find the fish and they could be anywhere. It's worth a look in front of Brasserie du lac restaurant as I've caught fish there before.

My first time using boats etc and Cat fish only unfortunately, but learnt so much and can’t wait to go back, hard work with days only but I can see why you love the venue so much. Tried all depths in many different areas and no crayfish were evident so I can only assume the cats are eating them....do you think this could be changing the depths carp can be found at e.g maybe they are now searching out swan mussels as the main food source instead? We also heard that they are no longer stocking the lake, if this is true then I wondered if the stock will eventually decline which would be a tragedy.
Adrian Connock I think the stock has already declined from about ten years ago unfortunately, the new head of the federation isn’t a fan of carp fishing like Gerard was before so the carp stockings are a thing of the past - at least for now it seems. The crayfish seem to come and go but have never been as prolific since catfish were introduced in numbers. The carp certainly feed on the various shellfish but it doesn’t determine the depths you find them at, the depends mainly on time of year and just the natural thermocline and oxygen levels.
No I've never received any less action using the rig - the same with the bottle rigs at Rainbow - even when the water is crystal clear, as it is at Cassien - it shows that we create more doubts about things in our own minds
Steve briggs I think we give carp to much credit with what they can see... the main thing is find the fish when they are in the mood for feeding then u will catch them it’s as simple as that
Hi Steve, I'm a your really fan! I found this "rig" really interesting, but I have a question. In the lake I'm used to fish there are many spinners so it becomes necessary using almost one back lead near the rods to keep the line far from their casts . Do you think is it possible using the floater with an heavy back lead? I usually use a "stone back lead" with an elastic to make it easier to lose. Thanks in advance!
Hi Pietro it is more difficult if there are many spinner anglers around but I do have the same problem at Cassien with swimmers and pedalos etc so I do the same and pin the line down in front of the rods with a large stone which definitely helps. It's not perfect but it makes life easier.
Very good info, using a boat myself to drop baits I have used ground bait to mark my areas but with the wind being strong it can drift as well to, and we also have the pike and musky anglers here in the US so keeping it out of there way is Paramount as well. Thanks very much Steve!
Sometimes in your Cassien videos I’ve seen that the ball is just few meters in front of your rods. Is there a reason why you don’t put the powergum knot as always? thanks Steve
Dear Steve! Thanks for sharing this useful information, but if you put power gum stop knot to stop the ball, how the lead clip and the ball are able to slide down from the line if it tears while the fish is on?
The lead clip doesn’t slide, it is designed to be fixed to the swivel so that the lead is released. But also the idea of a power gum knot is that it can slide on the line under pressure.

Due to work and family commitment I’m going to go for it at long last . I’m thinking what is it like at the back end of September/ October, I suffer badly in the heat so what sort of temperatures am I looking at at that time of year?
Hi Steven generally the heat would be reduced somewhat at that time of the year. I'm not a fan of the heat myself but should be fine then. There is also a lot of shade from the trees surrounding the lake. It can vary greatly but i should imagine you'd be looking at around mid 20's max.

no reason why not I guess. I have cast it out on occasions but its more a rig that I would use with a boat.

yes I never claimed to have invented it but loads of people asked me to show what I use and how it works so that's the reason for the vid.

thank you :-) I only ever use one type of braid really and that is Nash Bullet Braid, normally 25lb - just very reliable
