Ah yes, the avatar, master of the 4 elements, ice, lightning, air and camera

You know a boss theme is great when you're trying to focus as hard as you can on fighting but your brain is constantly interrupted by "god the music goes hard"
he was the first boss i fought and when the ost changed and started switching through the different elements i was too flabbergasted to keep fighting
100% i had the same reaction lol

Dancing lion: 72. Me: 0

@@InkNoodleSoup real shit
Fun fact: in his second phase the boss transitions through the three elements at specific musical cues. He really is dancing while fighting you.
I noticed that! I love when boss fights come together with the music like an actual dance its so fun!
Oh so him leaping and dive bombing me with his face is an elaborate dance got it
I like how the arena itself is a theater meaning that technically if the battle is a performance then it’s a musical
I fucking knew it was not random.
@@Jhas14ducks the grace name seems to confirm it, the boss arena is where they used to have a festival with ritualistic dances. Thats propably also the origin of those spinny hornsent with the crescent twinblades

6 F*cking Basilisks:

The fact that they integrate a lot of elements of chinese festival music works so well with this boss as it is directly inspired by chinese lion dancers.

It feels like a 6 beat measure but same shit lol. Still a 3-count either way

@@kingkop8155 no, it's two
It's two guys the model has been analyzed
Omg, when I finally noticed the guys hand operating the lion's mouth, I was so happy

I love how this fight didn't even have a second phase. The boss just transformed when he wanted to and cycled on his own timer. Really refreshing boss design to be honest.
I really loved that as well, before Elden ring came out I was thinking a cool boss design would be if it timed its attacks to the music and this is kinda close.
Although it is kindve a second phase since he only starts doing it at around half health. I probably only that since you've died 50 times less than me.
I’m pretty sure the weather effects were the second phase
@@TheJayTex there's a little chance it does it almost at the beginning of the fight, it happened to me

I was worried about what would happen with From’s music after Yuka Kitamura left. I’ve never been so happy to be wrong
For real, Shoi Miyazawa delivered some of the best in the base game. When I heard this music, I knew right away that he also made this piece. The man never missed!
The whole Elden Ring OST crew delivered craaazy with the basegame and dlc
Did she do some stuff for the DLC?
The work she did do in Elden Ring is both phenomenal and unique when compared to her usual style.
The Agheel/Dragons theme filling her more classic niche while Regal Ancestor Spirit being her different takes. All still beautiful sounding.
@@snimon5824for what i've seen, she was involved in 4 DLC tracks ? I might be wrong though
But fromsoftware casualy having the best composers of the videogame industry is something amazing
While it's good to see she's broadening her horizons from a career standpoint, I'd like to think she'll make an occasional contribution for From in the future if she chooses to.
Kind of like how Nobuo Uematsu writes a theme or two for an upcoming Final Fantasy game (as he did with FF7:Rebirth this year), even though he's not with Square-Enix anymore.

The boss itself was amazing but this music was so extravagant.
This song deserves the pin on top of my homepage now
As wild and as varied as the boss itself

My favorite part of the boss is how in its lightning phase is does a square up walk towards you in time with the music.
I honestly prefer the sumo stomp in the ice phase, but the second he pulled out ANY element for the first time I audibly yelled “Holy fuck”.
My fav part is that thanks to how the music works 99% of the time the beat will drop as he swaps from lighting to frost

I think this boss is weirdly depressing, it was a expression of celebration and beauty that was turned into a war machine, essentialy destroying their own culture in favor of trying to keep themselves alive and still failing at it and you can still feel this duality in the song.
Well they didn’t really destroy anything. From what I read the omen people just realised they could turn the lion dances into aggressive battle moves and we see this in the belurat enemies as well. There’s no reason why they couldn’t just go back to dancing normally if they won the war.
@@arryn786 winning that war is a big 'if' though
@@MartinPurathur I was talking hypothetically as It’s not really even an if at this point. We arrive in the shadowlands in what is basically the thousands of year aftermath of a war they have already lost.
I mean... if you dig deeper into their lore, their culture and traditions were always built on human sacrifice on an industrial scale, I don't think it was that much of a stretch to turn their celebratory dances into war tactics. Hell, this creature is itself an approximation of their own holy warriors that dwell on the tower.
The best divine beast warriors are chosen to serve in the dancing lion . Their ability to conjure storms is what makes them eligible. So no i wouldnt call it an approximation, its the ultimate form of their cult.
Is an actual dance; totally insane. Worth waiting 2+ years for this level of quality.

this boss is one hell of a first impression for the DLC, in both fight and music. I just beat it and it felt on the spectacle level of some of the coolest bosses of the main game, for a boss that isnt even a named character!
And it only gets more insane!
The weather effects of the elements were beautiful. The chaos and might emanating from this boss is insane.
Just finished fighting this boss and I had to come back and listen to the ost again, holy shit that fight went insanely hard. If that's the standard for shadow of the erdtree, I can't wait to see what else the game has to offer.
Same man this ost is so good
You won't be disappointed.
I went and fought Rellana first so he was easy. Still way more fun though.
Can't speak for too many of the bosses yet (no spoilers) but I'll say that a part of the DLC map is really boring. Looks beautiful but it's a whole lot of empty and copy-pasted nobody enemies with a repeat boss here and there. Also bored of seeing those big ogre guys everywhere lol

What’s sad about this boss is that the divine beasts were put to “martial means” when Messmer was sent to purge the hornsent. They were originally just costumes designed for plays and festivals from their culture, forced into weapons :(

hardest thing about the Boss is, that the Grab nearly oneshots me and I can´t stop dancing, because of the incredible music!!!
He has two grand one that comes out fast and one that has a lot of telegraphing where he chomps down his teeth like a nutcracker twice then grabs
It's normal attacks almost one-shot me let alone the grab.

he vocal harmony in this song is maybe the best out of any fromsoft song imo
My favorite part about the theme is that there’s a wild rhythm to it reminiscent to a festival, which is the origins of the boss, a graceful dance utilized for war.
And is it just me, or appearance wise it looks like it takes inspiration from Chinese Dragon dances and the traditional image of the Tarasque? Because that just fits the theme even more.
God I love FromSoft.
