I love how Sir Ansbach is this wise old scholar, and then shows himself an absolute beast of a warrior, capable of matching an elite and young Redmane blow for blow, with equal fervour. If only we could have seen him in his prime...
Leda knows she’s a killer at heart, and I think it’s for that reason that she sees necessity in Miquella’s rule. She assumes that everyone is like her, deep down, and that there can be no peace and kindness in the world without his influencing charm.
" The path to hell is paved with good intentions " This line can be link to both Miquella and Leda. Such a simple but really powerful character writing!
She is a good girl after all. But she can not stop the urge to protect by any means. Basically she is us, but without plot reasons to consume everything on sight.
@@BloodyArchangelus She's also correct in her suspicions as well. Ansbach does betray Miquella. The Hornsent will inevitably turn on Miquella since his thirst for revenge wasn't even sated by killing Messmer, and swears he'll kill everyone related to Marika and the Erdtree. He'd probably turn on Miquella for being Marika's son. The Tarnish is literally guided by Grace to kill Miquella. However, she admits to making a mistake regarding Thiollier as a threat though, since she didn't predict that Trina would desire Miquella's death despite her deep love for him. She's also really respectful to the objects of her suspicion when she's trying to kill them. She's also implied in her rune's description to have been a Tarnished but was given unalloyed gold into her eyes by Miquella, which is why she's so fanatically loyal to him. She did kill all the other Needle Knights in the Haligtree though for reasons unknown, so she's still a crazy bitch.

“You have no understanding. Of kindly Miquella, or St. Trina’s love.” Don’t see people talking about this one enough but it’s probably my favorite dialogue from this fight. It’s that reminder that we’re not just doing this to _stop_ Miquella’s plan because it would be a world bereft of free will… But also as mercy to Miquella himself. Godhood would be a hell of his own making, a terrible unending nightmare that he would never awake from. Even after everything he’s done, St. Trina still loves him enough to wish him the mercy of sleep.
He's right, too! Leda truly has no understanding of what's about to transpire. Thiollier is one of the rare characters that has that depth and comprehension. He recognizes that he made a mistake in doubting us, and does a full 180 once he realizes we were telling the truth. He's a real one.
It was so heartbreaking to fight Freyja, Hornsent and Moore. But I was relieved hearing Ansbach and Thiollier by my side. This is hands-down the best NPC fight Fromsoft has ever done.
@@josephbulkin9222 if you get to the point where Leda is suspicious of the Hornsent, but then enter Messmer's boss room before interacting with their summon signs, it skips the part where they fight and she remains at the cross outside Rellana's arena until Messmer is dead and the summon signs in the Shadow Keep will disappear. once Messmer is dead, she'll have dialogue saying that with his object of obsessive revenge vanquished, she has no reason to distrust him anymore. i imagine that if you assist him against Leda, it plays out the same, where she forgives him and fights alongside him when you reach the room. although i think if you help Leda, he dies there and is not part of the final encounter.
To be fair, Leda doesn't summon him. Hornsent is a rogue spirit who can damage everyone. His obsession with revenge, held back by Miquella for so long, has driven him entirely insane. He will kill all Tarnished, deeming it the only true way to get revenge
Moore is universally depressing and I just wish I could hug him. All of his friends die or leave him, or he has to be killed by the only people he could still call his friends. I need a hug taunt for my little oxidized copper man
Moore: "Miquella the kind will help us forget". Somehow the one character clearly written as a simple-minded is the one who knows, and tells, the unsettling truth as clear as day. Ansbach: Casually is respectful, ominous, thoughtful, as resolute as Leda and as war-junkie as Ishinn AT THE SAME DAMN TIME Leda: Talks so ambigiously she makes it impossible to tell if she is sorrowfully going after her former comrades OR taunting traitors in passive-agressive disdain and hatred. Thiollier: "Not the finest blade, not the mightiest armor..." Player: after all his journey, even now bro just can't help but downplaying himself a little Thiollier: "...will spare your life from the poison of Thiollier!" Player: HOLY FCKING SHIT THE SELF-CONFIDENCE Almost everyone: "I don't want to do this. This is heart-breaking. But given the stakes, you can be assured I shall murder my way through all of this. Moore again: "Sad, forever?.." My god, no wonder Fromsoft almost never allow npcs to have dialogue with each others. When they do, it leaves a mark on you for life.
I fucking love Ansbach and he's still my favorite, but goddamn if it Thiollier's character progression didn't make me feel a type a way. Even more so when Ansbach; a renown warrior who has accomplished much in his life-time as a well renowned noble and general to Mogh, was the one to give Thiollier praise. I only wish Thiollier heard his kind words, perhaps he doesn't need too anymore. A man who was beaten down by life to the point where he was too scared to die but suffered too much to live. A man who simply wanted an ever-restful sleep and a purpose for his life. It was only logical for him to chose St. Trina as his purpose. And for the first time in Thiollier's life, he had a purpose to see through till the end. A purpose we found for him.
I think Leda is both sad and disappointed, sad that she has to put down her former friends and disappointed not only in us for following the guidance of grace, but disappointed in ansbach and thiollier for not taking in miquella’s kindness to heart and trying to stop him from becoming a god
I was using Dryleaf Arts exclusovely throughout SotE, so while Ansbach and Thiollier kept Freyja and Leda occupied, Dane and I went toe to toe. It was almost like the "master vs student" fights you see in martial arts movies. He taight me to use rhe Dryleaf arts, and then I used them to kill him.
This is one of the best fights Fromsoft has done in soulsborne games simply because they had an assortment of characters throughout the DLC fleshed out beautifully, and the track to back the sentiments thrown back and forth, beautifully done
Its really crazy how they fleshed out so "many" characters with rather few lines and in this little time of the dlc playtime The npcs of the Base Game almost seem shallow in comparison imo
@@nyankant8008 I think he actually speaks (the line in this video here) when he dies, since while dying he seems to break his vow of silence to mutter one last sentence of defeat or prayer to Miquella. During the fight it's easily missable though, I think. Since sometimes when one NPC is still speaking and another one dies, the first activated voiceline has priority, so the "dying voiceline" isn't played.
God I'd absolutely love a more NPC focused FromSoft game, where just like in this DLC, we can see all the different factions interact with each other and affect the outcome of their battles. I do appreciate the isolated journeys of NPCs i nthe base game but seeing them all interact and fighting for their own goal is honestly so much fun!
Freyja: meets the Elden Lord, who has slain a god already, and countless heroes, champions, and demigods before that. Freyja: giggles like a little girl in anticipation of a fight She might be our enemy, but she is an absolute chad-ette. Makes me respect the Redmanes even more. Shame we can't join them in the base game.
One thing I hope they learned from this DLC is to make NPCs more vocal. I don't think anything makes them better than having them actually talk when things are happening. Igon screaming with every last drop of his being during Bayle, Hornsent hating Messmer, and the battle where friends have to be at each other's blades because of their goals. All of these were made infinitely better by having everyone just finally TALK.
Leda: Throiller I seem to have a poor judgment, about you or perhaps St Trina Throiller: *You have no understanding… Of kind Miquella, of St Trina’s love. Not the finest blade… or the mightest armour.. will spare your live. From the poison of Throiller* 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
What's even more heartbreaking - they all respect each other deeply. They were really united for some time and found common goal, despite all their differences. It's like growing up when one day you have to go separate ways from your family to chase your goals. They don't want it but know it must be done. And FromSoft managed to convey it with just a few lines of dialogues. Compared to other games it's really sparse yet it's filled to the brim.
Ansbach’s Honor, Thiolier’s Love, A Tarnished’s Resolve, Hornsent’s Hatred, Leda’s Devotion, Freya’s Loyalty, Dane’s Will and Moores Compassion. There couldn’t have been better storytelling here even if they wanted to.
The drama of this moment... How did From knew I'd meet and understand all these people? Leda, you follow your Lord into godhood, but have you wondered if it is really your choice? You've been to the crosses, and seen everything Miquella left behind to ascend. Is there anything left of the Kind Miquella you're sworn to? Freyja, Radahn is dead. He died a warrior, like he deserved. Bringing him back, on the corpse of someone else, to serve a Lord he didn't choose, would he want that? Do you want that for him? Hornsent, we fought Mesmer together, we avenged your people... But once you get a taste for blood, you just don't care who it comes from. It won't stop with me. Sir Moore, you fight to forget the pain, but it is that pain what drives your caring nature. Would a kind Lord take your kindness away? Master Dane, there's no need for words. I've met each of you as allies and friends. If lordship requires suffering, I accept the price. I am to become Elden Lord. I herald a new age. The throne will be mine.
"Master Dane, there's no need for words" is a line as hard as "Not the finest blade, nor the finest armour, will spare your life from the poison of Thiollier" You came up with a Fromsoft worthy line for a silent protagonist
These characters are probably the finest Fromsoft ever developed and their from a DLC. I really bonded with them and knew from the start it would not go well for some of them.
"I am deeply sorry...for doubting you. I am here only to grant St. Trina's singular wish." "I will stop Miquella the Kind. He will never become a god."
Ngl, when i walk in the arena and saw Leda, i was like; huh, so here we go again, another typical fromsoft sad npc fighting ya? But the moment when every npc start talking and interacting with each other, the whole fight easily become my favourite and damn, it was epic!
The fact that the two heros that stand with you, one being dex/arcane/faith for Ansbach, the other being dex/arcane/int for Thiollier, has to be some sort of point that Miyazaki is trying to make about building as such
This is so refreshing from the empty, celebrity driven VA that has taken over so much Hollywood animation / films. These are professionals and a far level above and it's so obvious.
How is there not a single comment about how epic this song actually is? It's all about the dialogue but youre missing the reason the dialogue works as well as it does. This track is great
If someone told me an npc gank fight would have been the peak of the dlc and prime Radahn was one of the worst fromsoft bosses ever I would have lost my mind
@@alessandrodebonis4888Whoever says that Radahn is the worst Fromsoft boss is high af because we have such contenders as Bed of Chaos, Ancient Dragon from DS2, trio gank fight from DS2, double Gargoyles in ER. He is not even close to being the worst in my opinion
I love this fight, if you do it alone, it's like you are the boss here and Leda and her companions must defeat you, and if you do it with Ansbach and Thioller it is a fight between companions with different ideals, really a wonderful idea for a combat against npcs
Ansbach: "there's five of them and only three of us. It appears the odds are against us" Tarnished: "don't worry guys, I called a friend" ... Igon: "CUUUUUUUUURSE YOUUUUU LEDAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
Didn't know Hornsent could play a role in this fight since i killed him in the ancient ruins of Rauh. Also Dane's last words really took me off guard during the fight
That should mean you summoned him to defeat Messmer, as Hornsent invades you in Rauh right before fighting Romina. If you don't summon him to fight Messmer and he survives his whole quest, he allies himself with Leda.
@@Gmaster124 summoning Hornsent to defeated Messmer is what triggers the invasion before Romina. If you kill him then, he won't appear in the final fight.
"Kindly Miquella... Make the world a gentler place..." This last line is so... ironic. Leda, the one, who's ready to eliminate anyone on the path to her chosen god and caused so much violence... In the end, SHE is the one, who asks about making this harsh, cruel world a gentler place. Even if her god is the reason, why all of this unnecessary violence had happened in the first place... I love FromSoftware. Please, don't change
What makes this so much more depressing is when you kill them all, you think "oh their corpses faded to dust like usual" but after the loading screen you see all their bodies everywhere with unique positions. Really settles in the feeling of what you just did...
Freyja was the only one I was looking forward to fighting. Its a bit difficult to explain, but as I respected her as a warrior, and looked forward to when we would be fighting together or against each other. It for some reason felt right to fight her. Edit: Thats not to say I didn't enjoy the fight overall, its just that fight her was the highlight for me.
Her fight man, it made me sad. She was the one I was hoping we would charge straight into the final battle with. When she said "this is our moment. Let's make it something to remember" It felt like an old friend telling me to smile and to honor her with battle. 😭 Edit: Oh yeah she bows to us in her death pose. I think she accepted us as lord in the end.
Thankfully I got the full free-for-all on my 1st blind playthrough. Goddamn it was the hypest thing I've ever experienced in souls. And I never expected Thiollier to deliver such badass lines
"I am Sir Ansbach of the Pureblood Knights. I stand with blade aloft, blood afire. For the dignity of my lord and master Mohg." This is the ABSOLUTE best of Fromsoft's NPC fights. I legit had tears during the whole fight. This might've been even more emotionally charged than the final boss. Final boss was epic, but THIS. This was so emotionally charged that I just can never hate this fight no matter how much anybody tries to convince me otherwise.
These voiceline edits are fantastic. DLC has a lot of controversial elements, but handling of major NPC quests has honestly been a knock out of the park in terms of improved across-board quality, and I hope the standard stays raised to this level in future games.
THIS is what the Roundtable Hold should've been. A group of mighty tarnished warriors all striving towards the same goal, but all ready to stab each other's backs when the time comes.
Miyazaki made this fight so people who whine about "summoning means you didn't beat the boss" will miss on one of the best fight narratively, and you can't change my mind
I know there are some editing tricks here and there with filling time and adding in Thiollier's death dialogue and all that but It is actually insane that all of their dialogue together comes out to almost the exact length of the song holy shit
"This is our moment, lets make it something to remember". "I never couldve imagined it, that YOU might be the Erdtrees rightful lord, Ha ha ha" Freija...please. 😭 I never wanted to kill you...but i will defend Sir Ansback
The fight was so hectic that I missed some of the lines later on in the fight. The exchanges between Thio and Leda, as well as Ansbach and Leda in particular. I would say I kind of like this encounter more than the final battle in some ways lol. Makes me hope FromSoft takes this more NPC/party member centric approach in their next game, whatever it ends up being.
Even though I got through the fight first try and mechanically, it's just a messy NPC team deathmatch... this was one of my favourite moments of the DLC! The thought of all these diefferent people you accompanied on their way through the Lands of Shadow, all their experiences and intentions culminating here in this massive fight to the death at the doorstep of a new god... it's just so epic. And seeing your "good" deeds be rewarded by having two allies by your side and then having all NPCs actually talk to each other directly, exchanging some words of sorrow and determination... and then having the awesome music elevate all this to even greater heights... simply incredible. Huge props to whoever came up with that idea, I think that is the first NPC fight in any Souls game I ever enjoyed (at least I can't think of any that would particularly stand out), and it was an NPC gank fight on top of that (brings back nightmares of the Dark Souls 2 trio) and still it was great, all because of the dialogue and music.
"Every age it seems, is tainted by the greed of men. Rubbish to one such as I, devoid of all worldly want." **Summons Unbreakable Patches** "Needle Knight Leda. Charlatans like you are why we are in this mess. On my name, on the friends that I have made along my journey, I will undo the greatest illusion of them all. The greed of Miquella."
I can't say much more than what's already been said, but man this fight was epic.... Getting to give Freyja a proper battle, one against the Pureblood Knight Ansbach at that. Feeling fury at Hornsent's self righteous behavior after learning what he and his people did to Marika's. Sadness and reluctance to fight Moore due to his naivete, and renewed strength at hearing Thiollier not only apologize to us, but feeling his new resolve to help fulfill St. Trina's wish to save Miquella. Mutual honor towards facing down Dryleaf Dane after learning from him, and facing down the Oathbound Knight, Lady Leda and her dedication to Miquella..... It just was such a beautifully done fight, Cinematic in every way alongside my spirit summon, Tiche,, leader of the Black Knife Assassins...
People who say this is the worst boss is probably because he didn't give a shit about the NPC quests, this fight is simply epic, although the combat itself isn't the best but the feeling that comes from having to face those you saw as allies and fighting side by side with others produces a feeling that no other boss gave me... that added to the music and the NPC dialogues undoubtedly make for a pretty epic battle.
People don’t understand Leda character, why she is on dls cover and whole message of AC 6. Sadly. Look into the mirror. We are the fellowship of brothers, but before the Marika herself - would we not fight for our own ideas how to reshape the world? THEY ARE US. We deeply respect each other or hate with deep passion. We pursuit own vision of the world and think that it would be the best variant for everybody. Through our blood and tears. Leda is the closest person to tarnished. She is nobody who earned the rank. She fights not even for the Lord, she fights for the future, while being unstable person herself. Thats why she is on DLS cover. Brilliant. Magnificent work from FROM. It was so heartbreaking to fight Freyja, Hornsent and Moore. But I was relieved hearing Ansbach and Thiollier by my side. This is hands-down the best NPC fight Fromsoft has ever done.
It is odd that Leda and Hornsent are fighting alongside each other, considering what happens when Miquella's great rune breaks.

Everyone is compelling and plucks my strings in some manner. Except Hornsent. He can go lie down with the rest of his foul kind.

The way he says, "of saint trina's love" in that echoing voice gives me chills
One thing I hope they learned from this DLC is to make NPCs more vocal. I don't think anything makes them better than having them actually talk when things are happening. Igon screaming with every last drop of his being during Bayle, Hornsent hating Messmer, and the battle where friends have to be at each other's blades because of their goals. All of these were made infinitely better by having everyone just finally TALK.

St Trina told him to lock in and he immediately turned into a giga chad

"Master Dane, there's no need for words" is a line as hard as "Not the finest blade, nor the finest armour, will spare your life from the poison of Thiollier"
You came up with a Fromsoft worthy line for a silent protagonist

Freyja was the only one I was looking forward to fighting. Its a bit difficult to explain, but as I respected her as a warrior, and looked forward to when we would be fighting together or against each other. It for some reason felt right to fight her.

This is the ABSOLUTE best of Fromsoft's NPC fights.
There's such narrative potential in the Roundtable. It's sad none of them actually care about becoming Elden Lord.
