There's this weird, creepy old-man angel guy who inhabits a kid's teddy bear in one of the houses in the first town. I have no idea why he is there. I have no idea what he is giving you. But it is very off.
6 years later, and only now have I learned that Robopon is based off of a classic Toei-produced Japanese series that originated in the 1970s. It's very much beloved, which would probably explain (at least partially) why names as big as Hudson and ATLUS were chosen to work on the game.

Ah yes this brings back memories. I remember being disappointed by the original, being impressed by the sequel, aaand having my mind short circuit when I saw the manga where all the girl robots have giant breast larger than their heads. Apparently they also have those in Moon Version.

More Robopon! I really liked this series as a kid, even if my Sun Version cartridge was beeping well into the late 2000's. I'd love to see a Let's Play of the second game, or even just another video talking about it... the second game was really great, but I always thought one part about it was weird: There's a skill you can learn with the flavor text "Minna shi ne!" As a kid, I obviously had no idea that I was reading "romaji," or else Japanese that has been romanized for easier pronunciation by anglophones, but the phrase stuck with me and I wondered what it meant for the longest time...
Only later in my life did I learn that the phrase means, "Everybody, die!"

Hearing about the popularity of Yokai Watch really is nostalgic. If anything, it proves that Pokemon hit a magical note loved by all, and others struggle hitting that note, even if they "threaten" Pokemon for a bit.

Also every other game is a remake/update. Every generation has a new game that isn't a remake that add new mechanics, moves and pokemon. Doesn't seem like they're running out of ideas to me.
***** That's not an opinion though, you are just wrong. You are not understanding the function between the different entries of games:
New generation adds new stuff.
Remake brings old game up to date with the current generation.
If it makes you feel better about it the remakes are move like filler allowing a longer period between new generations to better develop the new stuff. The stories are similar enough and there aren't any new pokemon of notoriety (new forms mostly) so you can skip them and not miss out.
Also, not everyone plays pokemon for the competitive aspect. I myself play for the story. As long as the story adds to the universe I'm okay.
If they've spent too much time in a single generation without adding anything substantial then they've run out. So if Generation 6 consists of X, Y, OR, AS, Z, Burning Fire Red, Serene Leaf Green, Celestial Emerald, Brilliant Diamond, Perfect Pearl, Towering Heart Gold, Submerged Sould Silver, Tranquil Water Blue, Shocking Lightning Yellow, Sterling Platinum, Clear Mind Crystal then they've run out of ideas because all of those games fall under the 'at least 2 generations ago' rule that the remakes have been using but is too long without a new generation.
That was hyperbole, I don't actually think they need to go that far to have 'run out of ideas' and will probably say that Z should be the last game of Gen 6. If there is no new gen after Z then I'll be more on the 'run out of ideas' camp.

Fundamentally the games are all go around region, gather pokemon, 8 gyms, Elite 4, Champion, catch deity level pokemon.
However the motivations of characters is what I find interesting. I also like reading pokedex entries, random books, talking to important NPCs and other world immersion stuff.
Afterwords I like to build a team of 6 that are pretty good for free online battle and battle with my friends, but not good enough for ranked.

Austin Setser Pokemon's Mega Evolution is more akin to Digimon's Burst Evolution really, if you think about it. Both the Mega and Burst stages having come before Pokemon's Mega forms. So can they really be counted?

Robopon 2 is a super nostalgic game for me; I played it all the time back in the days. Please, please give it some more time to shine. I, and hopefully a good number more, would really appreciate it.

Sadly (and I mean this, as I love the second game), it will never happen. No-one cares about the game enough to make *any content on UA-cam about it.* Seriously, search for Robopon 2 on this site and you'll find basically nothing about it compared to the first game. The little you'll find is either ancient, incomplete, completely unfunny and poorly edited... or that one meme review that dropped maybe two weeks ago. That's a fun time if the humour's to your taste.
I really hope that Josh proves me wrong with a Robopon 2 video, though. The game needs _way_ more love, and is forgotten about because people think of the whole series as Pokémon knockoffs after playing (or watching partial people play) the first one.
Digimon was amazing. The first season was way better than most of the complete Pokemon series by a huge margin.

CurtisAlfeld you should actually play it… its VERY good if you can get into it and get past everyone saying "this is a pokemon ripoff so I'm going to bias my opinion" (trust me I've seen it done more than you know)… though if you don't have much tolerance for older games or get bored easily by them then you may not like it… just saying… so to each his own...
It's a good game to play if you want to get into game design. Just take all the mechanics of Robopon, and do the exact opposite.

I actually really wanted this game when I saw ads for it in Nintendo Power. I was excited by the infrared feature, and I liked the robot on the cover because it reminded me of the Z-Bot toys that I collected. I think that I liked the idea of infrared because it made the creatures seem more real; it's also like the weird Scannerz toy that my friends and I had in which you scanned UPC codes for aliens to battle. I never actually got Robopon, and it was probably for the best.
I got Yo-kai Watch for Christmas and it's pretty fun! I can see where people can connect it to Pokemon with each of the creatures having certain abilities (for example, Last Stand is like Sturdy but buffer), types, nicknaming, evolutions, and the likes. But it's still its own game and I like it! I've been addicted to it lately. I still love love love Pokemon to death though! heck, some of my Yo-kai I admit nicknaming after Pokemon and Trainers ^^;
but it can be enjoyed by fans of Pokemon!
ps, I also grew up with Digimon too! still love both series!

Adam Van Der Hoeven The rip off I played is called Crystal Monsters. The non-damaging moves were worthless but the way you could power up your attack by pressing the button at the right moment was fun. Also you could combine monsters like Dragon Quest Monsters.
