The only reason these games are as close as they are is because Sonix doesn't respect DK enough to ban cheesy stages like Small Battlefield. Chunkykong is good yeah, but Sonix makes the conscious choice to not lame DK out and I respect that.

Thats not true. I think DK does pretty well against Sonic, just because he can kill so early with 1 or 2 moves and Sonic doesn't have any projectile for keeping at distance. Is exactly the same reason why in SSB4 some players uses DK against Bayo
DK can beat his spin dash with a f tilt.
Sonix can't stall him because DK commands a ton of space, you're underestimating the match-up
Before I clicked on this, I tried to mentally prepare myself for the second hand frustation I'd feel for Chunky in this matchup

First game belonged to Chunky both in strategy and execution. Sad to see the disadvantage gap between the characters.

@@lennywood-production5139 Was that optimal gameplay what lost him game 3? I'm not even trying to argue, but when you're playing against such a terrible heavy, it's a choice to lose with Sonic. I'm not saying the blame is on Sonix, because it isn't. I'm saying Nintendo made his moveset cringe, and so his representatives in competitive are also forced to play cringe. Not their fault, they're just playing with the hand they were dealt

Yes bro, you shoulda heard the commentary for it (idk why it’s not in this video) when Sonix SD’ed one of the commentators screamed “WHERE ARE YOU GOING!!!”
And people talk about banning Steve...This is probably the most stupidly designed character in the game. What exactly are his weaknesses? He is extremely fast so it's hard to see any of his moves coming; almost all his moves are very safe so he is hardly in any danger even when you anticipate and block or dodge his moves; many of his moves seeem to have priority or funny hit boxes so you end up losing when you try to do a move to counter any of his; his recovery is very good; he is great at edge guarding; he has a kill throw, almost every move of his can easily lead to a combo and as if that was not bad enough, his combos do a lot of damage; he does not struggle to take stocks and has many moves that can kill relatively early; he can easily run down the time if he is ahead or can run around if he doesn't want you to get close and there is really very little most characters can do about that, and trying to chase him down often leads to reckless mistakes that he easily capitalises on: and he is not even a character that will die early!
I could go on and on. Just an extremely poorly designed character.
Can't forget the main thing: whenever you play a match against sonic, you aren't playing smash bros. You are playing Sonic Bros. Sonic gets to decide when he wants to go in and when he wants to go out. You literally can't do shit against it.
Maybe projectile characters have a lil edge on that but being able to fake out spin dash without any sort of feasible punish window is so dumb

Dawg nah he ain’t on Steve level by a long shot. Sonic is just a character that is a battle of mental stability. Steve is that and is just straight up playing a different game than you. Sonic will camp you out and it is annoying because you want to get a advantage state going, Steve will camp you and also gets value for it because of mining. I think sonix just makes this character look really good because he is really good and basically uses that battle of mental stamina against his opponents. He has that shit down to a science. And tbh I feel like the fact that sonix is just such a patient player just makes it that much harder for players to stay discipline while in a set against his Sonic.
Sonix's boxing options aren't that great and he doesn't have great pokes. None of his moves can be thrown out the way DK's bair can.
He's also fairly light for midweight.
It's funny everyone complains Sonic being poorly designed, because the devs clearly anticipated Sonic being a speedy menance in Brawl, which is why his knockback was atrocious.
People complained Sonic was D Tier for an extremely arbitrary reason, low knockback, so the devs gave us what they asked for.
Sonic does have trouble killing if you don’t know how to edge guard
