I discovered this guys music about 2 years ago and he's a phenomenal artist from Norway! If he ever hits the states I want to be the one he calls!
I can't listen to High Time without listening to Rock Steady, so I'm playing them both in one video!
The purpose of this video is to demonstrate the importance of being very specific and intentional with what you choose to play. These two songs are heavy in feel and solid as far as groove is concerned, very reminiscent of my approach to gospel music.
So what you'll hear is not a replica of the drum sounds or the drum orchestrations, but more the sound and feel of gospel music!
    Song1
    High Time
Its all about the syncopation of the initial groove of the song for me. Everything moves in such a way that its simple, yet complex enough that each musical movement doesn't get in the way of one another. Keep it simple and it should feel just fine!
    Song 2
    RockSteady
If you're familiar with the gospel style of Andraé Crouch, you might enjoy this one! This so reminds me of something he would write!
4 on the floor grooves in gospel can be tricky to navigate, especially at a tempo like this. You have to keep that pulse while also supporting the music and its movements. One of the best to play gospel with this feel and the best in general is TERRY BAKER! Listen to some of those Kurt Carr records and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about! I defiantly went into my Terry Baker bag for this one! He knows how find the groove, keep the feel and set up the bands without doing too much! its truly an art form!
    Thanks for stopping by!!!
