Another tip to know if your attic insulation is working properly. If it snows on your roof and is below freezing outside, you should not be able to see any part of your roof. That means no warm air is escaping into the attic and melting the snow. If you see an area of the roof is always exposed when it snows, that’s a sign of a warm air leak.

I have a small house also, and it is so easy to keep it warm in the main spaces. The only place I have trouble is the northwest corner room, because that’s the direction most of the wind comes from. So we use straw bales to block the wind in that corner. Otherwise, it holds heat well.

I see so many channels where they are doing multi-million dollar renovations. You seem to be doing a job that a normal person could possibly afford. I know you're about done with the drywall but just in case you need to cut more. After you score and snap then do your final cut from the back side instead of trying to cut down the middle of the break. You'll get a cleaner line, and it will be easier. So, basically, after you snap it and it breaks along the score, finish the cut from the unbroken side. Hope this makes sense. 😁

Before you mud the dry wall it would help to put down heavy construction paper. That mud drys like concrete on your wood floors. It will save you a ton of clean up.

Just a tip for the next remodel: on the exterior walls use Reflectix, brand name for bubble wrap with foil on each side. Place it between the studs before you put insulation and rodents, other critters will not chew through it plus it minimizes bugs in the house. Also lay it across the floor joists before the subfloor goes down for the same purpose. After the fact, if subfloor is already down, go under the house and attach it to the underside of the subfloor, don’t attach it to the floor joists because that creates a warm cavity for critters to nest. Love to see your progress.
I don't know if someone else has pointed it out, but the living/dining room separation is a huge "T" like the house was destined to be yours! Congrats on your 100K subscribers!!

I just did a safety page at work and yes, exposed dirt and such causes radon. A radon detector would be a good idea.
And maybe pouring a bit of concrete over that section of dirt subfloor might keep it from rising up into your airspace...

I have a small house also, and it is so easy to keep it warm in the main spaces. The only place I have trouble is the northwest corner room, because that’s the direction most of the wind comes from. So we use straw bales to block the wind in that corner. Otherwise, it holds heat well.

Been reading the comments and felt like I should chime in. I really enjoy watching this series and you working with your dad. I also like it because it seems realistic. I see so many channels where they are doing multi-million dollar renovations. You seem to be doing a job that a normal person could possibly afford. Anyway, really enjoying watching you bring this to completion and I'm sure the place will be awesome when you are done.
You've done a great job. My husband and I and friends and family have done two houses by completely gutting and redoing them. A lot of work but great rewards.

I know you're about done with the drywall but just in case you need to cut more. After you score and snap then do your final cut from the back side instead of trying to cut down the middle of the break. You'll get a cleaner line, and it will be easier. So, basically, after you snap it and it breaks along the score, finish the cut from the unbroken side. Hope this makes sense. 😁

It makes me happy to see a young woman take on saving a house. I bought my first home 35 years ago. I was not as talented as you on restoring a home. My home was in much better shape. I redid the landscaping, replaced putty and painted windows. i did painting inside the house. it is fun to see you accomplish so much more. You are inspirational to other woman. great job❣️

Before you mud the dry wall it would help to put down heavy construction paper. That mud drys like concrete on your wood floors. It will save you a ton of clean up.
I watch this channel for the same reason I watch the lawn restore guy. It is very satisfying to see a job done well, by people who clearly know what they are doing. When you cut dry wall And It Fits! 😲 That is lowkey amazing to me. And a beautiful hostess just adds to the fun.

Just a tip for the next remodel: on the exterior walls use Reflectix, brand name for bubble wrap with foil on each side. Place it between the studs before you put insulation and rodents, other critters will not chew through it plus it minimizes bugs in the house. Also lay it across the floor joists before the subfloor goes down for the same purpose. After the fact, if subfloor is already down, go under the house and attach it to the underside of the subfloor, don’t attach it to the floor joists because that creates a warm cavity for critters to nest. Love to see your progress.
