How many America Christians even know any Christian Palestinians. Good churches should be inviting Palestinian believers like this brother to come speak.

Christian evangelical here. I'm deeply sorry for how my fellow CE's support Israel without question because of their false eschatology. They mean well I suppose, they just are taught wrong things and do not study the Bible for themselves. Even when they do, they have so much brainwashing and it's hard for them to just read it as it is apart from that dispensational lens. My heart is with the Palestinians in this conflict. I'm doing all I can, especially online, to spread the word to these poor deluded souls, and praying I can reach some of them by the grace of God.

Great discussion. We moved to Qatar from the US and it’s amazing how sharp the contrast is in narratives. It didn’t take me long to realise that what I thought I knew about this issue in addition to what I thought I knew about the Middle East was far from what I was actually seeing/hearing/experiencing upon arrival. There’s so much left for us to learn when most of our lives we’ve only been getting one side of the story…

Preston, thank you so much for this sensitive interview of Daniel - you gave him ample time to share his thoughts and it was very informative. I am also of the Christian faith, and I am also a born-again Believer, which is a smaller subset of those who also claim to be Christians. My thoughts as a Believer, come from my Prayers to my Eternal Creator God, who I have asked to intervene in this intractable situation, according to Matt.6:10. Because of the sad history of events, I dont believe there is a solution that can be reached by the involved parties and allies. This one requires Almighty God's Sovereign intervention, because He alone knows, who, what, where, when, why, and how of this historic tragedy, and only He can miraculously solve the issues with His attributes of omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience and Righteous judgements. As a Believer, this one will only be solved by petioning Eternal God with prayer and fasting. I ask all Believers who read this, to join with me in prayer for a miraculous 'healing of this land' and establishment of a just Peace that only Eternal God can bring.

The God we preach loves us to the point of death and yet holds us accountable for our actions. The same is true as a parent. I deeply love my children, but if I truly love them, I speak the truth about their actions and discipline them. 2 things can be true at the same time. We hold them in tension. We must do better.

I'm confused! I am a Messianic Christian. I have been a Christian since February 1989. Like Daniel, I too studied theology at the London School of Theology. I'm only two minutes in to this video but I am struggling with Daniel's claim that Israel only existed in the minds of colonialist (Britain) with the Balfour Declaration in 1917. Leaving aside the huge and complex subject of Zionism to one side because that is a huge subject even amongst Jews, some believing the land and State of Israel is existentially Zion, whilst other believe Zion will only exist with the coming of the messiah. But for Daniel to suggest that Israel only exists as a consequence of the Balfour Declaration, or the region being declared a State in 1948, is wholly inaccurate and unscriptural.
The region was renamed Palestine by the Romans. Before this, neither Jew nor Arabs in the region were known and did not refer to themselves as Palestinians. Arabs living in the region did not begin to call themselves Palestinians until after Jews from across Europe and Russia began to return to Israel after the second world war. And did not become known as Arab Palestinians until 1967.
Jewish people have been persecuted and expelled by numerous nations. You've only to read the bible to know how often they were exiled from Israel. They have been expelled from numerous countries across Europe and the world over thousands of years. The Holocaust during the second World War meant it was no longer possible for the world to turn a blind eye. I won't go into how Britain and other countries knowingly closed their borders, preventing Jewish people fleeing persecution in Europe leading up to the death camps in 1941.
The point I wish to make is that as Christians, which should be our first love and identity, whether Jew or Palestinian, we should not engage in rewriting scripture, or the histories of peoples in an attempt to erase them from the land. If there is ever going to be any hope of peace, Christians, including Palestinian Christians need to acknowledge the right of Jewish people to settle in the land and turn to Christ for our identity and the solution.
National identities, politics and unforgiveness only create barriers, whilst not forgetting that God in his wisdom made Jesus Jewish. Jewish people, Christians, whether Messianic or Arab, need to recognise that God called Abram (who became known as Abraham), telling him to leave his family and his land to go to a place God would show him. Where did Abram leave? He was called out of Ur, modern day Iraq, to become a great nation....a holy people. Galatians 3:28 tells us we are all one in Christ. At the same time, we know that Israel and the Jewish people are also important to God too.

It's telling that this comment was written so shortly into the video. Your remark seems mainly about semantics and nomenclature and particular Zionist interpretations of scripture that are themselves disputed, as Daniel mentions. When and whether or not Arabs/non-Jews called themselves Palestinians; even if one accepts that Jewish people have a 'natural right' to this region, nothing justifies the systematic brutalisation, dehumanisation and dispossession of fellow image-bearers of God. Hamas' actions were despicable but that is sadly what can happen when a people are consistently denied their humanity. Some will react in inhumane ways. Even if using self-defence as a rationale, the Torah speaks of proportionality (an eye for an eye, at most) which the Israeli regime notoriously ignores. Christ said Himself that His kingdom is not of this world. It's sacrilege to justify colonialism in His name. Where is the denouncement of the Far-Right Netanyahu coalition or high level officials referring to Gaza as 'human animals'? As you said, we are one in Christ and that is our primary identity. By ignoring that non-Jews also occupied the region and were forcibly displaced in 1948 is to do exactly what you decry; it's re-writing history. No life or people group is more valuable than another. I implore Christians that if any theology, ideology, ethnicity or nationality causes us to advocate, be complicit with or turn a blind eye to the mass oppression and immiseration of a population by another, esp. one that has far more power, then it is an idol and we need to repent and return to the beatitudes.

@danielbbannoura you stated that the Palestinians want Hamas out, and so does Israel. It seems like Israel and the Palestinian people have a common enemy. Why not evacuate to the south and allow Israel to eliminate Hamas. Why stay in harms way. No one wants civilians harmed. But it is Hamas that specifically targets civilians. Not just to take hostages for negotiation like you stated, but to slaughter them. They hide behind civilians, and launch their attacks from schools. They use all of the Palestinian resources on weapons instead of developing Gaza. Gaza is fenced in to keep Hamas out of Israel. We see what happens when Hamas gets into Isreal, they slaughter civilians. The blockade is also in place to prevent even more weapons from entering Gaza. This would not be necessary if the Palestinians would stop attacking Israel. You ignore these facts and make it sound like Israel does this just to be hateful. You stated several times that Palestinians just want to end the occupation. What exactly does that mean? It sounds like they want an end to Israel, not a 2-state solution. I agree with you that the only real solution is Jesus. However, it's really hard to preach the Gospel in Palestinian territory. I pray that this would all be over soon, and peace would come to the region.

Wow that was a lot to take in. First off, Daniel I am so sorry for your loss of family and friends due to violence from the Israeli government/army and from the conflict in the Middle East. I can't imagine the pain of that. I know 2 hours is not enough to get your full perspective on everything so if you have time to respond to this Daniel or Preston and I'm misunderstanding or characterizing points you have made, please push back and clarify. I'm not meaning this comment to be antagonizing but I am a brother in Christ who cares about the truth.
For starters, what countries in the Middle East are you referring to that have multi-ethnic and multi-religious identities?
Here's religion percentages in the middle east:
    -Gaza Strip: 99% Muslim
    -Iran: 99.4% Muslim
    -Iraq: 98% Muslim
    -Saudi Arabia: 96% Muslim
    -Egypt: 90% Muslim
    -Jordan: 97% Muslim
    -Kuwait: 99.9% Muslim
    -Oman: 95% Muslim
    -Syria: 87% Muslim
    -Turkey: 99.8% Muslim
    -Yemen: 99% Muslim
I always have a concern when the argument, 'You can make the bible say whatever you want it to say' is brought up in response to a particular view of Scripture without giving Scripture evidence to why the argument is false. Most of the time from what I see, the people who say this are always the ones who discredit the most amount of Scripture, which ironically is picking and choosing what you want from Scripture. You can't just say, "you're wrong in your view because people use the Bible for all kinds of things". That's not an argument. Prove your standpoint from Scripture. Do you believe in 'Replacement Theology' or do you believe that many of the promises for Israel in the Scriptures will still be fulfilled?
46:30 I don't know if you meant this comment this way but it certainly feels like a not so subtle antisemitic jab at the Jews to suggest that Israel is just European Jews with a tone that they aren't true Israel. That is pure antisemitism and is consistent with the antisemitic, hate group called the Black Hebrew Israelites.
52:10 Daniel this is about as objectively false as you can be on history. You appear to be getting your American 'history' knowledge from fictional, reframings of history. If you are embracing everything taught at modern secular universities, I'd challenge you to come back to Scripture and hold what's said from university with discernment and suspicion. America didn't want independence because Britain didn't want them to own slaves. Are you just reading American 'history' from the 1619 project's fictional history or something as your source? Hannah-Jones is not a historian and her works are not based in any evidence what so ever or in history. Her 'history' has been debunked.
Daniel, you keep bringing up that "it's your bias that makes you think that Jews are victims and Arabs are the aggressors", you have to admit you have much more reason for bias than anyone in non-Palestinian or non-Jew in America would have. I'm a Gentile. I'm not Jewish. It's pretty easy to see who the aggressor has been throughout history, and it's not the Jews.
1:05:00 Israel seems to mainly want the land promised to Abraham. How do you know they want to continue spreading?
1:06:00 "cancerous entity"...I'm sorry but this is really inflammatory language and honestly feels like it reveals bitterness and antisemitism. Do you believe like the Black Hebrew Israelites that the Jews in Israel are counterfeit jews? Just about 50% of the world Jewish population lives in modern day Israel.
1:11:00 This is definitely not historical fact. You can't own the evils of your own people and would rather try to blame your people's sins on Israel. Israel did not create and fund Hamas. They showed indifference to stopping the rise of Hamas but they certainly did not create Hamas the way you are saying here. They simply did not get involved as Hamas grew in power early on. Saying something is not a 'conspiracy theory' is not the same as giving evidence. I really don't think you should be blaming Israel on the actions and standpoint of Hamas.
1:19:30 Preston I would challenge that sometimes you make simple truths more complicated.
1:21:00 The barrier was built by Israel following a wave of Palestinian political violence and incidents of terrorism inside Israel during the Second Intifada.
1:28:30 Again, I don't think you can blame Israel for Palestinians support and votes for Hamas.
1:31:00 57% of Gazans express support for Hamas, and a study in 2021 said up to 77% of Palestinians support Hamas so it's inaccurate to say the vast majority of Palestinians in Gaza do not support Hamas.
1:45:00 it is highly disputed whether the hospital bombing was Israel.
1:46:00 I have to make an objection to the argument about how you can't be against the LEGAL murder of babies without also being for a bunch of leftist political points. You can be against the murder of babies and not agree to every single leftist ideology. Also, no pro-life Christian is in favor of killing Palestinian babies that I've heard.
1:47:00 Just want to point out that 'Christian' and 'Fox News' are NOT synonymous.
1:47:42 What Hamas DID on October 7th is pure evil. It is deeply concerning that you have a problem with that statement. You can't blame your own individual actions to behead babies, and rape and kill innocent women and the elderly on your trauma. Can you condemn a person's actions as pure evil? Can there be any balance in this conversation at all? Does saying someone's actions are pure evil mean you are saying the person doing the actions is an animal?
1:48:00 "Violence is always a sign of something wrong, what drives people to it?". Any Christian with a biblical worldview should know this is false. We are fallen creatures and have a sin nature and that nature (anger, bitterness, hatred, unforgiveness being the root, which these are all sins) is the primary driver of our unjust violence. Cain didn't get to blame trauma for killing Abel. Does this justify all of Israel's actions? Of course not, and each person pulling the strings to murder Palestinians will also have to give an account for their sins.
1:48:13 To condemn someone's actions as pure evil does not mean you are making them out to be animals. Can you call the actions of Nazis pure evil? How about the actions of Slave Traders and Slave owners? It's pure evil and should be condemned and the people who perform the actions should face proper consequences. They can still repent, can still be forgiven, but that doesn't remove the natural, just consequence. Just as you have the right to call some of the acts of Israel against Palestine as pure evil.
1:49:00 They were literally live on social media platforms showing the killings. It's not a Jewish 'narrative'.
1:51:30 I again would really caution you calling the Jews racist, fascists. Fascism is thrown around quite a bit by the political left in American and is most of the time used improperly. And is it wrong for America to support Israel? I don't know anybody he thinks our support means we will never disagree with their actions. Also from a biblical standpoint, overall, we should pray for, bless and support the Jews in general.
1:51:57 'You're a product of the white supremacist ideology'...Have you read history? Hitler (an actual white supremacist, not just someone who doesn't buy into leftist political policies) wanted to kill all the Jews largely BECAUSE of his white supremacy. True white supremacists have not supported the Jews historically. Also, that term is used in America to categorize anyone who doesn't agree with all liberal and secular talking points. To say support of Israel is due to white supremacy is honestly one of the most ignorant things I have heard in a while.

1:52:20 What's wrong with a fundamentalist Christian? A fundamentalist Christian is a Christian with a biblical worldview. If you don't believe in the fundamentals of Christianity, you are not Christian, like by literal definition.
1:53:00 again saying white supremacy is the cause of supporting Jews...
1:54:10 You can't prove that Israel is TARGETING babies. Hamas killed babies with blades. I'm not saying I even support Israel's continuing onslaught at all, but let's speak accurately.
1:58:40 This BLM slogan is not Bible. This continues to show that you are what you consume. You are what you listen to, study and read.
1:58:50 What about the Pax Romana?
1:59:20 "If peace is obtained, no one would want to pick up a gun". This continues to support the secular culture narrative about the nature of humanity versus the Scriptures. We are not born good. We don't sin just because of trauma or difficult circumstances. We sin because we are born with the curse of Adam and need to be born again in Jesus.
1:59:20 God is not 'fundamentally' on the side of the oppressed as if the oppressed can do no wrong and is always justified in their actions.
1:59:57 The verse says 'Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness'. Those who hunger for obedience to Christ in ALL of his commands and according to His terms. Of course God is a God of justice but you don't need to change texts to add more zing to your point.
2:00:00 Luke 4 is clearly a reference to Jesus setting us free from the oppression of SIN. His first coming was to set us free from our slavery to sin. His second coming will be the ultimate end of all injustice and oppression. Of course we as Christians should fight for the truly oppressed, but Jesus first coming wasn't about setting people free from human oppressors. The Jews expectation of the Messiah was for military conquest for the Jews but Jesus shocked them when He came to die for the sins of the whole world. But HIs second coming will remove everyone who continues to willingly resist Him as King and not submit to His lordship and atoning sacrifice. Daniel do you believe in the literal and physical return of Jesus?
2:00:38 That is definitely about the age to come.
2:01:30 This is one of the big problems with Marxist ideology. All they want is revolution. It's super easy to just point fingers but when it comes to actual practical solutions, leftist thinkers have none. Or they think if you remove any law or border and just simply allow people to do whatever they want unhindered, somehow there will be a utopia. Daniel do you really think that just saying, "You know what, let all Palestinians back into Israel without any restrictions and it'll work out just fine" will end up working? Literal Presidents of middle eastern countries have publicly proclaimed they want the complete destruction of Israel. Islam calls for the killing of Jews. The Hamas charter literally says, "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it."
2:04:30 You keep saying Israel's motivation is about racial supremacy. A people wanting there original homeland back and to not be annihilated by the countries around them is not racial supremacy.
2:05:30 What gospel message did Russell Moore give that is not the gospel of Christ exactly? To say Russell Moore proclaims a false gospel is a stiff accusation.
2:06:20 How is your heart 'filled' after this discussion? Filled with increased animosity against the Jews? I mean, even if you agree with Daniel, I'm not sure saying my heart is 'filled' makes sense with the subject matter.
2:06:52 If it's about context, you should have brought someone with less of a blatant bias and who's understanding of history has not been shaped by secular universities radical Marxist philosophies and distorted worldview. I think you could say this gives you a glimpse into the worldview and perspective of Palestinians. Or an American Palestinian's perspective.
So much of this fits exactly with the current secular culture. You never take responsibility for your own sins, but constantly blame your sin on someone else. 'They made me do it' will not be pardoned at the judgment seat of Christ. Repentant sin covered by the blood of Jesus will. You want to make excuses for it, those sins will be judged.
I am talking in broad strokes here of course. Israel has not been perfect. Israel still needs to repent and believe in Jesus. Palestinians are loved by God and are able to be reconciled to God through Jesus. But in general, the Arab nations have been hostile against Israel for all of history because there is an ancient hostility and hatred from the line of Ishmael that hates Isaac. You can't look at history, the history of Arab nations, the history of Islam (which yes is very tied to Arabs) and the Islamic holy books like the Qur'an literally call for the killing of the Jews, and not see that common thread.
Daniel, I have to challenge you that you appear to be more rooted in your race and nationality than in your identity as a Christian. I think it's distorting your view of history and this situation as well as causing you to honestly fight for the wrong narrative. I also believe that, as well as spending so much time reading secular sources and Progressive 'Christian' voices, you are Eisegeting a secular worldview into the Bible, instead of letting the Bible help you to interpret how you should respond to the world around you. I of course think it's ok to want your own people to have their own land and a way to live in freedom and peace. But the way you are talking about the Jews is deeply concerning.
It is not ethical from a secular sense and foolish from a Christian stand point to say that it's fine that the people of Israel should not be able to have a homeland of their own or that it's wrong for them to have their own country. Also, saying Palestinians are indigenous of that land and the Jews are not...history and the bible would stand to differ.
I'd challenge you both to re-read Romans 11 and tread carefully. Watch your life and your doctrine closely.

I have questions about Hamas' use of "human shields" as well. I hear it all the time, but I don't if has been verified by independent report, or if it's propaganda.
Back in 2013, Amnesty international investigated the claim and said they couldn't verify that Hamas uses human shields. Here's the report:
      www.amnesty.org/en/documents/mde21/1178/2015/en/
      In sum it says:
"The Israeli authorities have claimed that in a few incidents, the Hamas authorities or Palestinian fighters directed or physically coerced individual civilians in specific locations to shield combatants or military objectives. Amnesty International has not been able to corroborate the facts in any of these cases."

Vast majority of the Palestinian Jews (Old Yishuv) were anti-Zionists, and did NOT agree with the mass-arrival of mostly secular, culturally alien, politically troublesome Zionist Aliyah.
"We Orthodox Jews whose forefathers promoted the development of the Jewish Yishuv throughout the generations, who for many centuries constituted the most important element of the Yishuv in the Holy Land, were always on the very best of terms with all sections of the Community. We had hoped that the real purpose of the Mandate would be the promotion of a "Home" to which Jews who lived in the Diaspora might be able to return as their Home Land in order to live here in accordance with the Commandments of the Almighty. It was upon the first appearance of the Zionist organization as a political entity, created in and by the spirit of reform, a spirit to which Orthodox Jewry is so utterly opposed that the idea of the foundation of a Jewish state in the Holy Land was first advanced." I don’t expect that any government will make any lasting difference in the hatred and wars among people. Only by death to sin and resurrection to new life will we see real peace. Preston, Daniel is justifying ! It's disgusting. Preston, you and Daniel are even going so far to suggest that Israel orchestrated this. It's outrageous. And then after providing a distorted summary of 150 years, a reading list of contested literature to support ideology and theology, states that scripture is like a "bazaar" that you can "make fit anything", and then preaches the gospel. Although I am familiar with the few that he mentions, I am aware that the majority of Jewish scholars are highly critical of them. But they are handy to quote from if they suit your narrative. However, the aspect I found most disturbing was that Daniel was supposedly reporting as a Christian, but I found it was not a Christian perspective that he shared at all. Great episode. He provided very important context that is really necessary right now. He was definitely NOT presenting both sides though. He clearly is anti-Israel (not without some justification) and used labels of neo-nazi, racist, apartheid state etc. to describe them but was always favorable in talking of Palestinians. Though not necessarily "supportive" of Hamas, he is clearly sympathetic to them. When he referred to people blaming Hamas he said that was blaming the "victim" . He said supporting Israel is supporting white nationalism. You should have pushed him a little about the six day war that started with Syrian back Palestinians guerillas attacking across Israels border and then Egypt (after inaccurate intel from Russia) moved forces to the Sinai penninsula ejecting a UN peacekeeping force that was guarding the border for years. Any atrocities committed by Palestinians were condemned but at the same time justified by saying (several times) Hey, if you're mistreated enough you pick up a gun. You should have asked him about the Hamas charter that clearly states the intention to eliminate Israel. I do not support the terrible atrocities committed by Israel or Hamas. He cited atrocities for which there are differing accounts though he squarely blamed Israel. He didn't talk about Palestinians used by Hamas as human shields. He seemed to deny that though overwhelming reports cite otherwise. I learned a lot from him though and I am thankful you had him on the podcast. It seems (though I don't support Israels oppression of Palestinians) the only solution acceptable by Muslim countries in the middle east is the elimination of Israel.

Preston, you have really stepped into it. If you have guests about this you really have to do your homework. This fellow just distorts, does he mention the displacement of Jews from all the Arab lands. Why are the territories "occupied"? Because the Arabs started three wars to drive the Jews into the sea and the Jews won. If these people would stop sending terrorists into Israel to kill people their life would improve immensely. Every Israeli wants peace because they have suffered from all these wars.

II would say this christians understanding of historical claims aren't complete. If he truly studies the bible and its historical context with reference to history, Israel has always held a much longer claim to the land. From Genesis to Paul, the land of Jerusalem is promised to the Israelites. Any historian will agree, the term "Palestine came later after christ from the Romans in later 2nd century after vanquishing Judaea. I would look at the solutions both sides suggest; if Palestinians say Islamic government should have authority over the land, then this is not biblical, therefore I question his Christian commitment. But if we think biblically, sorry to say, the name "Palestinian" means very little to the promise made to the descendants of Jacob and David. Point is, Geo-politcalics has no weight to a much bigger conversation.

@@annlowry9841 that's a fair question. So I believe Christ changes the way we think about the land and the people. Through Christ, the land is extended to become all the earth and the chosen people become everyone (no difference between Jew and Gentile, see Galatians 3... etc.). Saying that a secular political state is the same as biblical Israel is historically naive and biblically very sloppy. See Gary Burge's "Whose Land? You don’t have to agree with him, but Jesus calls us to listen, identify with pain, and then ask questions if we want to influence. Your response here concerns me. And I know you from Remnant and believe you are a genuine believer. But this is not the way. He straight up critiqued Hamas, stated he doesn’t condone it and grieves the death. The 500 anglican hospital death is debunked now and the deaths much lower with the missile being from an undetermined source based on third party investigation. The people who support palestine support hamas overwhelmingly abroad. People in power are not going to be receptive to international support of palestine if US individuals are supporting the worst vision of palestinian resistance. If you want to support palestinians and gazans be wary of making this mistake.
