Hey guys, welcome back to another Sunday night video. Something a bit different this week. It's a free clean, but not necessarily something you might expect. Anyway, i'll let the video do the talking.
If you enjoyed this free clean, let me know in the comments, as there's plenty more areas like this dotted around Cambridge that look abandoned and overgrown that I could tackle.
Thanks again to all my lovely regular watchers, especially my loyal members for supporting my channel. Hope you enjoy this, love ya, Nick.

It means so much to people in wheelchairs and with mobility issues for sidewalks and crossings to be kept clear. Impassable areas often prevent them from getting to stores or accessing public transportation and severely limits them from participating in every day life. Thank you ❤
The lack of access is all part of Labour’s war on pensioners!
All of your hard work makes your community look so much better. Thank you.
Agreed, but why are we paying council taxes? Because lazy contractors are getting paid to do it, and they don't and the council don't hold them to account.
Thank you for cleaning the ADA curb ramps. The inserts in the pavement are called Truncated Domes. It is to let the blind and visually impaired they are close to the street and to stop. Those areas are supposed to be kept clear for those using wheelchairs, walkers, canes, seeing eye dogs. Also thanks for cleaning the drop inlet. That would cause water to back up and pond on the road. It doesn’t take much water for tires to hydroplane and not be able to steer or brake. Again, thank you.
Debby, watching from Cedar Hill, Missouri, USA.
Just an FYI, ADA stands for American Disability Act so doesn't apply here as this is in the UK but I know what you meant.
@@berkleywoman I knew that, but I didn’t know what they were called in the UK. I am sure there are some kind of rules that apply there for access for the disabled in public buildings and transportation.
Anyone who does something very worthwhile for his community on his own time and dime is a great guy. I absolutely loved this video. I hope your neighbors appreciated it. Thank you Nick. 💯🙏🇺🇸
Nick you're my hero. :) Imagine if everyone did just a little bit how beautiful our communities would look.
Imagine if everyone complained their MP every day until it was cleaned up😊
👍👍 Amazing hard work you've done there!! You made it look better, cleared those drains, and made it safer for everyone. I really enjoy watching you work because you take a lot of pride in the work you do and it shows.❤
You are a LEGEND! 😊
Now that is the neatest and cleanest buststop in Trumpington!!! 👍🏼👍🏼 Now imagine if everyone took some time out of their week just to invest in making their neighborhood cleaner and safer for others? You, Nick, are setting a standard for others to follow. ❤ Well done! Now, if the council (?) would just install a trashcan in that middle of the road island, it would help keep the trash off of the ground. 😉 Great job and thanks for sharing. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
❤
I find if one puts a rubbish bin anywhere, big items get dumped next to it. Or its not emptied fast enough so there becomes a litter issue. We need to learn to take our rubbish home and dispose properly
That helps so much for people with mobility issues. Great job!
Hi Nick, well done. I do this kind of job on occasion (not professionally) and I would like to share this: I put red cones for the pedestrians, I wear a hi-viz shirt, eye protection (when using the trimmer especially), and ear protection. I try to orient the trimmer in a way that the risk of throwing a pebble into a window or parked cars is minimized.
A pair of protective eye glasses last me a year, because of the many scratches from little stones and what not when using the trimmer (garded).
But you are the pro here, so the only thing I can say is 'take care mate'. Cheers :)
Considering your a novice at this, you do it so well😊
Aw thanks Ms Gilly 😍
I am really impressed. I am very aware that learning when, where and how to use a particular tool is the sign of a real professional. Your fellow residents will appreciate coming home and not seeing a big eyesore. Zen and the art of the shovel. A thing of flow and beauty. It is your focus and efficiency that made it such hard work. Thank you, sir!
Such a lovely comment, thanks Jossy ❤️
My curiosity would have got the best of me and I would have perked under the grates to see if the channel was open for drainage. Nice job!
love these videos where public spaces are so improved, brilliant job!!
Well that was a nice change up to watch, now each time you drive by you'll smile with pride mate 😁👍
What a difference! You should get some of your own advertising boards up as your doing stuff like this! Let people know who did it!
That is a remarkable difference! Excellent!
That crossing area looks fantastic! Shoveling up all that debris looks really easy on video, but it is incredibly difficult and wears the body out pretty fast. Well done!
👍👍👍 You are a true gentleman with a kind heart. Thank you Nick
Thanks Pete, top man
Great job! Shows you care about your community.
I love a good pathway reveal. Good job! Next time though, please wear gloves and a high visibility vest.❤
You can tell by the mud collecting & grass & weed growth that that corner of the walkway floods regularly due to that storm drain being clogged up. Great job! Making a huge difference for the disabled community & the public at large.
It's perfectly clean and accessible now, thanks to ypu, Nick😊
What a community minded chap you are. Lovely job after a few hours labour. Looks great.
I really enjoyed this one. I must say that I hate seeing mud and weeds around roundabouts and kerbs etc. Once upon a time, councils had more money more time more pride than now. Not many left now but some kerbs used to be painted black and white, or white and a solid colour if near a petrol station etc.
I hope you can find more projects to do like this. I also enjoy watching road signs being cleaned.
All the best mate , keep at it.
It’s awesome to see you jumping on the community clean up bandwagon! These are some of my favourite videos! There are tons of community stuff like this that needs pressure washing too… obviously not at an intersection but you know what I mean 😅 great job as always, Nick! It really does make a difference when you clean up a space like that that would be ignored possibly forever… you’re a champ! It actually looks like besides making the drainage work again, you also uncovered marks on the street and curbs for the blind. The change in texture tells them where they are in the street.
I loved this! There are so many areas like this here in the U.S. Like you said, local governments have limited budgets so they have to focus on certain priorities. I’m in New York City and when there is an impending storm we are asked to pitch in and clear the storm drains of debris. Being a good neighbor does make a difference. Thank you for being one!
Wow, when it was sped up it looked really daring. I kept telling myself: If he had been hit by a car he wouldn't have been able to post this video. 😅
I really liked the transformation there.
Maybe for the future: remember where you took the before pictures and take the after pictures from the same point of view. That is always striking in my opinion.
Such an improvement, it’s lovely to see you doing this kind of work. Uncared for open spaces have a subconscious effect on people, I think, it just sort of brings you down a bit to see them as they deteriorate. One of our local councillors goes round cleaning road signs of his own bat, it’s great.
I loved this one! Also, loved the one with the graffiti removal. It's always special when it's your own community. 🤓💖🌵
Nice job for your community Nick. Such a difference.
Nick I am very proud of you for doing this and doing an excellent job of it. As a wheelchair user obstacles like that are really difficult and that makes it so much harder.
As someone who thinks a lot of you next time I better see you in dayglow bloody yellow or orange while doing it my heary was in my darn mouth the whole time and while I know you must have been fine as you posted the video doesn't stop me worrying 😅😅
Many thanks for caring for your community 👏👏👏👏. You are a STAR 🌟 👌❤️
You deserve a medal.
It's commendable to see someone taking an interest in the public. That's some job you did there mate, and you're right, it makes all the difference. Well done, and Thankyou.
This is so much better, good job! It's actually my first time seeing a crosswalk that is not straight. Are they more common in Great Britain?
The "Look right" and "Look left" are for smartphone users looking onto the ground, aren't they 😉
They're not uncommon but the majority are straight.
100% that's what looks left/right are for
@@Notherenotever The Left/right is to aviod damage to the passing traffic.😀
Nathan does great things. Glad you've enjoyed the small crisis jobs and are doing some of your own. 8:41. You did a very nice job, that is a greatly improved area and better driving visibility.
Truly wonderful job Nick. From all the comments, it means a lot to many people. Please do be careful mate.
Looks fabulous! It was so nice of you to clean up that area. I got a sick feeling in my stomach when I saw that “Look right” on the ground! Reminded me of my visit to London several years ago! Being from Chicago, where we drive on the “right” side of the street 🤣, I was glad they had those reminders! Almost got knocked over by a cabbie!
Hi Nick, awesome job as always. ❤ You may already know this, but I wanted to share… Shovel tip; I sharpen mine to make cutting through weeds, grass and roots easier. I do a quick sharpening before putting it away, it cleans the blade and makes it ready for its next use. You are much tougher than me. Trimming in shorts, all those little gravel pieces, they ping around everywhere and they hurt on bare skin. ❤
I love that you're doing this! I watch Nathan's channel and as a matter of fact he just visited us in the U.S. He helped some people in some really bad neighborhoods and did it with a big smile.Thank you for doing this, I know a lot of people will appreciate it.
Love this! Yes, please do wear a vest next time, and maybe bring a couple of cones as well.
It's exactly the same where I live. You should see the park near where I live, what a mess it's become.
I love to see people do community service for their neighborhood. Very good job.
Fabulous job. Amazing how much better it looks and great for people needing the access. Keep up the great work and yeah Nathan is great.
Very busy road, glad you made it safer for people to cross, excellent job Nick
It is amazing what a small job that is done can make such a difference. Well done. Respect
Great job - two hints for you 1) wear puncture proof gloves (needles and glass) 2) one of the other channels I follow the man sharpens his shovel blade to cut through the dense stuff.
Nick for Mayor of Cambridge! A hero. Not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed. 🦇
Excellent job wish more would follow your lead. Keep up the good work. You are making your community a better place.
I do watch Nathan also. Thank you for your work and giving to your community
Very much enjoyed. The area looks much cleaner and maintained because of you ❤
Thank you kindly Christine 😊
You have done a great service to this community. The people from the area will see and appreciate what you have done. Way to go. Littleton Colorado USA
Thanks so much Maureen 💕
Great job Andy, shame the council can't do it. The state of the roads reminded me that when I lived in Cornwall you always knew when they were going to chop up and trim the hedgerows, they sent a roadsweeper around the day before, (it's true, believe me).
Keep up the good work and posting the videos...👍😊👍
What a transformation! I often pick up the garbage on my street, but you are inspiring me to do a bit of de weeding and clean up as well.
Awesome ☺️
Brilliant video, I really enjoyed watching this clean up. Hope you do more like this in the future 🤞.
That's the plan mate ❤️
Fantastic job 👍 If the council done that half the road would’ve been coned off for days and cost even more money. Councils only want to do half the job and spend the bare minimum nowadays with minimal effort.
You obviously don't understand how council landscaping works. Councils contract most work like landscaping to private companies like Serco, SUEZ, etc. They cost more money than hiring people to do it themselves. Councils have limited budgets for landscaping. My Dad is part of a specialist landscaping team which was cut from 6 employees to just 2 for a major city. The government has been cutting budgets for these for decades. So when people report issues they take a long time to get through all the reports and the contractors don't always do the job when requested. My dad says things used to be so much better.
Councils weren't even allowed to run their own bus services when private companies like Arriva refused to take the contracts for vital but quiet routes. I think the law has changed on that, I'm not sure.
First of all, case in point from my comment yesterday about you doing the ladys yard for her since she was not in good health! Now, a little background in my mental health, I have bipolar 1 disorder, and wow are you triggering my "lets clean everything" mode, (mania is the culprit on my feelings right now lol)! I love it! That's a great trigger! and BTW most of us bipolars have 0 filter, so what come out of our mouths is 100% truth! Sometimes a little TOO honest at times lol. Anyhow, another job smashed out of the field! AWESOME JOB again!!😁😁
Looks amazing! Hopefully you inspire others to do the same, well done cos that looked hard work.
Well this was a really fun one…great idea!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Just found the channel…new subscriber….appreciate these cleanups as walking with two toddlers in a stroller this makes a huge difference……
Fantastic job Nick. So much safer for people to use for sure!
Thanks very much for the upload, have a great week :)
The sped up footage does make it sound like you're working next to the Formula 1, which is quite nerve-wracking! But it does highlight what a busy road this is, and how important it is for everyone to be able to cross safely. Thanks for doing that, I'm sure the pedestrians of Cambridge are appreciative!
Have really enjoyed your content recently. Another great video. Respect for doing something nobody else would.
Much better looking and safer for the community. Nick. Good on you.
That was wonderful, I enjoyed this video very much. Thank you.
That was so awesome to watch! Totally enjoyed! Thank you for all your hard work! It looks amazing!😊
Looks amazing!!!God bless you for thinking of your community! 💕
Very nice work! Thank you for the video!
Nick, you are a gem, a blessing to your community and an example to others. Well done, Sir!
Great job, but be careful with the council coming back and saying that you're not allowed to do that because of liability.
It looks amazing.
Thanks mate, but I’m sure they’ll be fine with it 👍
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning I do something similar with a few hundred metres of grass verge opposite my home. I had a chat with a parish counselor and he was fine with it, a county counselor that I also spoke to about it was slightly less fine, and although he said he was OK, the council themselves, an anonymous body, may have different ideas. Mainly due to the risks and H&S. However, my main worry is if my strimmer or mower throws up a stone and hits a passing car. A neighbor of mine looks after cleaning a stretch of footpath in the village with the council's permission, they supply the tools and take away the collected rubbish when she leaves the bags at the end of the road, so they are open to people doing this sort of work.
It is great to see someone taking some time and effort to keep their neighborhood that little bit nicer for everyone else. Thank you.
I rather suspect that I know where you were working and I'll be over that way for 2 days next week, I'll give it an inspection if I'm right! :-)
@@PrestigeExternalCleaningI wouldn't be so sure. The council where I live tried to prosecute a young lad who thought he was helping the community by doing something similar.
@@LeeFrancis-f6y where’s this? And did they succeed in prosecuting? I very much doubt the courts would take it seriously. My actions are no different to people litter picking to clean up an area, and Cambridge city council welcomes litter picking with open arms
Good on you Nick! 😊 much better.
Fab job what you have done but, please wear protective gloves when picking the litter up because you just never know what you might put your hands on.
Yes! One stray needle can change your life in a really bad way.
That was epic mate!
Nick, as you know I enjoy your channel. Proud that you saw a community issue and tackled it. Looks good. Same here in Queensland at the end of my street onto a main road neither the council nor Main Roads want to own up to clearing the entrance road to our little village. So like you I am onto it for safety and ambiance for the entry way.
Well done and cheers. Howard👏🏼👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘
Well done for your community!
Oooh! Nice! I am down for all of your video’s, they are all such a lovely watch I’m looking forwards to each week, but when you said its mostly roof cleaning during the winter one of your last video’s, I was kinda worried. Variety of spice, yadayada… But this is amazing! Keep up the good work. 😊
This one made me happy! Beautiful! Good job, and the world is a little bit nicer ♥
Wow! That really looks amazing!! Love you beautifying the area!! Great work! Love to see more of these❤❤
Great job. I also was watching Nathan’s videos.
Nice job! I like the conversion to general cleanups!
More people need to be put on community service doing jobs like this for stealing from shops or graffiti etc.
New subscriber, always wanting you to stay safe but I really enjoyed this. Taking care of our transportation infrastructure is important, it keeps rainwater flowing to drains and prevents concrete degradation. Maybe less traveled roads and orange cones and vests.
Cracking job!
Well done, every little helps the community and it’s much appreciated. I really like this channel and looking forward to your next project 😊
Дай Бог здоровья!!!❤
Thank you kindly 😍
Fair play to you sir, I take my hat off to you, I’ve come to the conclusion, why don’t community service pay back do this job ?
Thanks Jane ❤️. Great idea that, having people doing community service do this type of work. Not sure why it's not in place 👍
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning I believe on some routes they do, but not where the traffic is speeding about the place, the outcry if a CS person were injured would be exhausting
When was the last time you seen any scroats doing community service?
Brilliant I do thin my development everyone appreciate s it good on you , you’ll have a great feeling every time you pass it
Fantastic job every little helps xxx
Wow! You really made a difference. Great work! Hi Nick! ✌️
Great job Nick. Blind and partially sighted people need to be able to feel the bumps in the paving at crossings and they cannot if it is voveted in dool and weeds. I’m glad you will be wearing a hiviz vest next time. I don’t think a cone or two would be out of place either. You need to get stickers for the side of your barrow that say ‘subscribe.’❤❤
Great job!!! I'm sure all appreciate what you do. God Bless
I really enjoyed that - great that you took inspiration from out Nathan here in Aus - what a fantastic improvement - well done!
Wonderful idea Nick, but please wear a high viz when you’re that close to a road. I was somewhat worried about you. Area looks so much better. We need more Nicks 😊 keep up the excellent work xx
Fabulous job Nick, I must say it was a pleasure to watch and giving back to the community is such a selfless thing to do, I would love to watch you do more, but don't forget your high vis next time, hugs😊
Great job and a lot of hard graft. Should be nice for locals for quite a while to come!
Hoping your back is ok after this! That’s a lot of hard work ❤ looks GREAT!!!
Great video. You have made a huge difference, thank you
Awesome job mate, well done.
WOW NICE AND VERY CLEAN NOW ... THANK'S TO YOU.❤👍👍
Aw, thank you kindly 🫶
amazing job
