@@broontroosers It might arguably sound good on its own (which I don´t agree with, what's the use of a snare drum if you don´t give it time to resonate) but it will either be too loud or it will be inaudible if you're playing together with other people because it's just attack. If you take this to a producer he'll probably try and simulate a snare kettle by adding a dedicated tiny reverb to the snare channel(s) so he's got something to play with (yes I worked as a sound engineer and as a producer).
This is just like what they used to do to kicks in the eighties and nineties to get that exaggerated base drum click: it's a fad that will sound terrible in a decade or two when the fad is over.
Rumours have it not even Chuck Norris will challenge this guy on the drums!

I’d love to hear your take on this song as it was intended. Nick was an awesome drummer RIP and his style was one of the reasons that album had so much character. I’m 50. I was 19 when this came out.
