I’m super excited to start our series on starting to learn to use colour for your drawings and paintings. Our ultimate aim is to be confident using colour for figure drawings and paintings.
We will be focused on those difficult early stages of navigating colour and light. A lot of what we will look at involves principles of light and its reflection and colour theory. However, before we get to the technical side, I felt it important to first address one of the most important aspects to learning colour: building your own intuitive use of colour.
My mum Mayko is a master of intuitive use of colour - her pastel drawings for example are so full of life and so expressive, and she hasn’t studied the science of light and colour in-depth. Instead, she’s studied her favourite artists a lot and done tons of trial and error to build her skills.
In our colour series, we will try to balance the technical side against the intuitive side.
