With your permission, I would like to re-upload your original video to my channel. Then, if a fraudulent copyright claim is filed on my channel, I will fight it to the fullest extent of the law, to the point that a lesson is learned to never do this again. You do good work, sir, I respect your work, and I want to help send a message to companies that do this kind of abuse that it doesn't work.
Oh my goodness - what a great suggestion! Mark, if you take Louis Rossmann up on his offer, he will show the manufacturer what the Streisand effect really is!!
And they acted in an absolutely underhanded manner. Civilized people can discuss this stuff on technical merits alone. They stopped so low the stoop hit them in the head. Absolutely shameful what they did.
as 30 year audiophile alot of this so called high end stuff is way overpriced and mark has exposed that good for him, if that TE had sold his phono stage for a resonable price he would have made more units and more money but no they all suffer from greed
But how can it be the manufacturer that sent the takedown if they were the one who sent it to Mark? They somehow didn’t know Mark would put it on youtube. Sounds very unlikely. I think someone read the thread over on diyaudio (which is very supportive of Mark, and somewhat supportive of Evans) and just decided to troll.
Congratulations on reaching 100K. The copyright and flagging system on UA-cam is very random, and often false flags. Every one of my strikes has been completely nonsensical. I really thought they'd tell you the specific thing that caused the strike though, whether it was music or artwork. Although my recent strikes had no information about the cause and I couldn't get that answer from UA-cam. It wouldn't surprise me if entire technical channels get deleted in the future because we probe about in live electrical equipment and it's deemed dangerous.
I believe the manufacturer's name is on the claim when it says the video is unavailable...if you can find the old link maybe you can verify this.🙏 Ps Love your videos!
deeming electrical current dangerous is copyrighted. There are a lot relatives of the deceased that claimed they have discovered it. Yet none claimed a patent after they got bitten.
Existing is dangerous. They're going to get a very vocal and well-funded fight if they try and remove the technical stuff from YT. I'll just cancel Premium and move to Floatplane if they pull some BS like that. Actually, I kinda want it to happen. If Floatplane gets much bigger, they'll need more people. I just might be able to get a remote job with Floatplane. I already get my music somewhere else and run a home server to access it anywhere with internet. I can add music remotely, download to my device, give friends access, etc. You might be surprised how much music, videos, and lyrics you can stuff on a 500GB M.2 drive. YT is going to lose their monopoly if they don't stop pushing good creators to other platforms. Twitch is in trouble, too. It seems that these companies couldn't make an intelligent move to save their own butts. It's all just shady, dodgy, underhanded BS. Anything to drive profits, as long as it's not honest or ethical.
The video gained a lot of traction on hifi forums. Lots of people were horrified at what you get for £25k. The manufacturer will have claimed the copyright strike. You have revealed his BS for what it is
@@jukkauh Nah, just drag the opponent to court. You'll win. Internet isn't its own lawless free for all. There's ways to take people to court, especially when you know exactly who it is.
You must fight it. If for no other reason than to not reach the three strikes threshold. If you actually have proof that the manufacturer sent it to you for repair, post that and the strike will go away soon enough
After seeing Rosmann's video and reupload on NickT6630's channel I have to say something. At first BIG respect to you, Sir Mark for doing this repair, reverse engineering It and showing the people about this how do I call It-scam. I mean 25.000 pounds for some garage made science project worth 100eur in material? Plaastic circuit board holders and so badly designed? Not to mention copper "covers" with the holes made by some kid,and "PLASTIC" screws holding cooling for the transistors? NO COMMENT. Come on this is a big shame for our technical field. I as engineer was feeling bad and ashamed what I've seen inside of that "premium" ovepriced junk. I have no words for It. I've seen a lot of bad stuff but this, with that price tag is probably worst I will ever see in my lifetime. Thank you for your video It was really educating and usefull. God bless you Sir!
You might be able to fast talk me into believing cheap electronics can make audiophile grade hardware. Like if what you were paying for was extreme parts binning for low noise, that would be fine. But for $25k you can build a much better enclosure without cutting into your profit margin too much. There are hobbyists doing much better work just in terms of fit and finish. This is pretty embarrassing and that's probably what the manufacturer is trying to hide.
@@freyalewis2460 yeah i think you can get some pretty good audio with cheap components and assmebly like this... but none of that justifies the pricetag at that price, i would expect the thing to be a fraction of the size with an integrated powersupply and a lifetime warranty (mine, not the devices)... and even then that still feels like a stretch... like none of the principles inside of that thing require crazy levels of expertise or skill in assembly... it requires some sure... but im betting if i ask around among the second year university students for engineering faculties, someone could build something like this
Can't believe you're all naming and shaming Tom Evans for putting out a shoddy overpriced amp called the Mastergroove. People who happen to google his name could get a bad impression of him.
The fact that the copyright claim doesn't specify which part of the video is in violation of copyrighted material is a dead giveaway that the goal of the claim is censorship and has nothing to do with improper use of any sort of copyrighted material. Fight it, Mark. That video was fair and honest and needs to be reinstated.
Find a lawyer. They will prosper from this idiocracy, and give you right although their fees may eat all monetary compensation you get. But at least you get revenge...
that guy just can't stand to have his £25,000 soldering project exposed, the audiophile community is very sensitive about their hobby and can't stand to see the nonsense exposed. All that remains for them is to press the "copyright infringment button".
The manufacturer is just annoyed his designs were put in front of thousands around the globe, professional EE's included and for what the design really was......a shocking ripoff. Mark, you need to follow up with UA-cam and get the video reinstated as a matter of principal. If the manufacturer wins here then a terrible precedent is set........which isn't good for the rest of us.
Despite my 30-year career as an electronic engineer, I have learned and continue to learn a lot from Mark. He is an excellent professional and an excellent UA-cam host. Good professionals are like that, they share their knowledge, they don't hide anything, and they enjoy sharing techniques, methods and information. Everyone wins. Unfortunately for Tom Evans, I am speechless. I don't know him and, frankly, I don't want to. What I saw was a terrible product, assembled in an amateurish way, a disgrace to electronics. 25K euros? What a shame. I wouldn't spend 25 euros... Mr. Tom, please grow up.
@@EyeMac-u8k that's not how it works on yt -- you play some copyrighted music that gets recognized by YT automation and your video monetization is claimed by whatever party. As an Anglophile, audiophile, and lover of the “can-do” attitude: I shower you with nothing but praise for your content & “cheeky demeanor”. Cheers, Mate!
As someone who has also recently had to deal with a manufacturer trying to bully me out of showing/saying something they didn't like with legal threats, I sincerely hope you can get this resolved. This is an abuse of the copyright system plain and simple, and I really hope you contest the claim. Manufacturers should not be able to behave like this, and for those who don't know, an actual copyright strike does damage the channel itself in how the algorithm recommends it, it's not just a case of that one video going away. Keep up the great work Mark!
I believe and certainly hope scd learned something, same goes for Notket and I'm sure both lost quite a bit in terms of credibility and... sales. Now this...
Sadly Google doesn't give a shit. All they care about is playing the market and being politically correct to reach widest audience, which also means preparing for another atrocious Rewind video. They have their fingers so far up their own ass they can probably nibble on fingernails. Oh how I wish someone took them to court with class action lawsuit and too millions.
This is the fourth similar case I have heard of now. None turned out well for the manufacturer, including yours, Goldensound. I hope this goes the same way, then maybe companies will get the message.
"Tom Evans" should be absolutely ashamed of himself ! ... TOTAL snake oil exposure by Mark. ( which probably explains the video takedown ) Do not let these scam artists intimidate you Mark ... get the video reinstated!
It is not snake oil, it does put out a clean signal, it is just not worth what he charges, not even close. The manufacturer is just embarrassed that we saw the bad workmanship and how basic it really is. All the parts are basic and cheap, he is charging £24000+ for his research and knowledge which is just insulting.
@@rossalexander5128 "he is charging £24000+ for his research and knowledge" Seems that your auto-correct is on the fritz. After all, it appears that it changed "datasheet and copying" to "his research and knowledge". Maybe you want to fix that nasty auto-correct app...
@@mamalala8723 There is a bit more involved then copying datasheets. Tom has maybe used the typical setup for an op-amp as shown in the datasheet, but that is only a small part of the total circuit. Is it overpriced? Sure it is. If people pay it, well done Tom Evans. Look at people buying Ferrari's.
its not snake oil. it works and it takes a lot of time and effort to measure all those op amps and components to get a low noise output but. the quality and secrecy behind what essentially is just a electronics expert duplicating what the manufacture has recommended then being aggressive toward a person they sent it to tobe fix is not on.

There's a growing outcry on the internet and you have an absolute ton of support. I sent a scathing email to Tom Evans HiFi and told him exactly what I thought of him and his product! I believe Evans is taking Legal action. Hat's off to you for exposing this joker. His product is exactly as you described. I was disgusted at seeing plastic standoffs being used on such heavy parts. That's pure greed at work. I heard this conman charged 2,500 pounds for a repair.
The prices charged for Magico and some other speakers like Wison Audio and B&W are insanely marked up. Magico M9's (4 bass drivers and a mid and tweeter in an aluminum can... $800,000! Just take a look at the price of pre-amps used in professional recording studios, e.g. SSL, BAE, Universal Audio, Warm Audio and others, some of which are using discrete components and/or valves/tubes. There is no reason that this pre-amp held together with plastic stand-offs and bits of cardboard should cost more than the pre-amps used by recording engineers to record your albums.
I remember enjoying the video enormously and thinking 'how the hell is that pile of junk' worth £25,000 ? It wasn't and now the manufacturer has no sales ! you did a sterling job, and I did think I hope you don't get into any bother. By having he video taken down he has admitted that the price tag for junk is far to high. Keep up the great and honest work !
The answer is, "It's not worth £25,000." So-called audiophiles love nothing more than to be parted from their money, and many manufacturers are very willing to accommodate them. They all deserve each other.
I'm really pissed off at those a*holes who made you take down your video for supposed "copyright infringement". The truth is that they are selling for £25,000 a device that is worth about £250, and so your video, which explained the circuitry inside in detail, showed the scam. We stand with you, as always!
He has aired the circuit on YT which they did not like and the makers did not expect that to happen and those who know about electronics would question why it is so expensive and its not worth the asking price and exposing the over inflated price tag. They are also scared that some other manufacture would also copy their circuit.
@@itsonlyme9938 The manufacturer was sure that - without a schematic and with the components abraded - Mark was not able to repair it. And instead... However, they do not need to be scared to be copied: from what I understand and what I remember from the deleted video, the circuit was nothing special. Mark also mentioned that at least one part is nothing more than the implementation of the circuit suggested in the application note of the components. So nothing "exclusive" or secret.
@@andrea.dalessandro So basically the manufacturer of that pre amp scrubbed off a load of letters and numbers from a couple of extremely common transistors.
After watching the repair video of the original £25k device, I was amazed at how poorly the device was assembled. Such an assembly would not withstand postal transport. This is how Mark revealed a dangerous product in terms of electrical safety that should really be taken away from consumers.
Yep, big companies seem to be able to do whatever they like these days and they don't care how that affects individuals at all ! I'm currently in dispute with Amazon over some bogus nonsense they dreamed up and they are refusing to communicate with me over it, makes my blood boil !
The worst part is, guilty until proven innocent, but you have no means provided to actually prove your innocence, so you are always guilty even if you aren't.
I thought that video was terrific. This is not the first time I’ve seen a manufacturer self destruct by thinking that flexing their muscles will distract people from the glaring exposure of their product. It only makes it 100 times worse because by taking down the video, they confirm everyone’s suspicions. Also you fixed what they couldn’t. I love your videos and your approach to fixing things.
You know nothing about how the system works or why it is how it is. The DMCA Safe Harbor provisions are what allows sites like UA-cam to eschew responsibility in the case of actual infringement. Standard process for a DMCA claim, anywhere, EVER, is to remove infringing materials and THEN investigate. You don't leave a turd in a pool in hopes that it's a Snickers. You fish it out, THEN determine if it's a Snickers. If it is, throw it back in the pool. Kids love Pool Snickers(TM). "but..." No, stop. Just learn how this shit actually works before whining.
Thanks to Louis Rossmann's repost of your video, I found your channel. I must say that, even if im not an electrical engineer, I'm absolutely hooked! The removal of your video has backfired tremendously since so many others have reposted it on their channels!!! Bravo 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼, now even more people have been exposed to your excellent work and work ethic.
The utter irony is that I'd have never known about Tom Evans Audio or your channel, Mark, if he hadn't copyright struck you. In any case, glad to be a new subscriber. Keep up the great work.
How true. They tried to hide their overpriced gear, and wound up blacklisted and helped a good creator get some views, so win-win in the grand scheme, get rid of junk products and promote good educational content.
UA-cam Copyright striked not tom evans and as a content creator there is no ability to defend your position as it is done blindly. This is an example of why CREATORS MUST UNIONIZE.
Not snake oil, per se, it's actually good. The circuits themselves aren't a secret either and fairly easy to design, not for the layperson, but for most, if not all, electrical communications engineers. Those will be aware of the difficulty of sourcing, selecting, and matching the parts as well, that's where a lot of time and money has to be spent. It's still way overpriced IMHO. The really shocking thing is the construction. Noone, and I mean NOONE, should be fine with putting their name on a product, built this poorly. If they consider this good craftmansship, which they obviously don't, they must be delusional. In this case they're just a greedy narcissistic AH.
I own a valve phono pre-amp, nice and simple, a pair of ECC83s, a handful of resistors, capacitors, diodes and a simple power supply, built for me by my dearly departed friend Glenn Croft. It cost me £150 as I supplied the enclosure and transformer. It sounds sublime. I'm prepared to state that the Tom Evans Master Groove phono pre-amp is not 166 times better by any metric whatsoever.
Hello and greetings from Germany from an electronics engineer who also learnt his trade at a university over 35 years ago. You show in an entertaining way how in the past, as well as today, very expensive snake oil was produced and sold in the audio sector. Tom Evans' reaction indicates that he is obviously now realising that he has also produced a little snake oil or, as you have seen and shown, he has simply recognised very well how to create an expensive product using standard circuit designs, some of which are taken from manufacturers' operation manuals. However, I think it's very dubious to strike back via copyrights now and I believe that this action will be pretty bad for him for marketing reasons. So keep up the good work of repairing beautiful old and expensive things. Best regards, Jens
To be fair, cardboard can be the right choice for shimming. In something priced like that I'd expect it to be museum archive grade acid stable cardboard that will last 1000 years, but the fact of it *being* cardboard isn't in and of itself a real problem IMO. No idea if it was, of course....
@@iatsd it's more likely cardboard from the bottoms of packets of fig rolls, because it sounds sweeter. This would also help to explain the limited production numbers, as Evans is only able to consume a finite amount of fig rolls per year.
Laughed very hard at this one, thanks mark. The irony here is the manufacturer has just made it ten times worse for themselves. Congratulations on the 100k subscribers, said early on this channel deserved it.
I never heard of Tom Evans, neither I heard about you. But these news spread like a wildfire lately on tech-forums and I cant believe I just watched a 40 minute video about technology that I dont use and dont fully understand. Appreciated and very interesting! All the best to you!
The thing is, the preamp did do what it claimed to do - amplify the very weak signal from a moving coil stylus, without introducing extra noise and maintaining clarity and extension into the frequency extremes. Whether it did it better than less expensive moving coil preamps is open for debate
@@thomasstone1363 it does better, that's out of the question. I wouldn't even have an issue with them selling it for that price, if the physical construction and layout had me drooling. Sure they slapped on a 400% idiot Tax, I expect that from companies in this niche, even after already applying a 200% niche tax, but the construction is just outrageously shoddy!
Why? The Lithos power supply boards are what makes the unit special. These are Tom Evans-copyrighted designs, and from my recollection of the video, Mark took measures to protect those designs. He discussed the reverse engineered schema's for the main amplification sections, which in itself is not a copyright violation. Also, as I said elsewhere, you grossly underestimate the economics of small series production and mark-ups in the chain. The 25k is a retail price. Dealers take a hefty chunk of that. If this is truly hand-built (and there is no evidence to suggest it isn't) then another significant chunk of that money goes to components and time spent. Apparently that, the time and effort to build a brand, perform marketing activities etc. are things a manufacturer is not allowed to be compensated for, in your opinion.
Oh yes Barbara Streisand effect at it's finest 😂. This is the reason I no longer give a shit about "audiophile" brands. BTW that copyright strike is pure bullying. Yt really needs to fix this BS. Much love mate.
I saw your video posted by another user and found it fascinating for a number of reasons. First of all, I learned several great tricks I hadn't seen before such as plugging in the shorted device board and watching the overheating component using a flir camera, heating a screwdriver to melt a slot into the broken screw in the standoff, repairing the broken cover, and some great soldering techniques. I found your whole approach to troubleshooting exceptionally efficient and well explained. As for the copyright strike, I truly don't get this at all. With 124,000 subscribers (+1 more) essentially you are exposing this product to a huge number of people who otherwise would never have heard of this manufacturer. Clearly these are being hand built judging by the workmanship, so what is the point ... are they ashamed of their work, the price, the right to repair? Watching the video, honestly I was mostly captivated by the troubleshooting and repair than the actual product. It could have been any electronics equipment really. Chances are this manufacturer does not have deep pockets, it's not like they are Sony or something, so I wouldn't get to concerned about it all. Glad to be a new subscriber.
Pockets not as deep as Sony maybe, but the serial number was 58, so up to the time that unit was sold, he'd earned 58 * £25,000 as a cool £1.45 million. So deeper pockets than me, that's for sure.
@@kirkhamandy No, there is no way he is making 100% profit on each sale, that's just not realistic. 100% markup maybe but definitely not profit. You have material, labour, overhead, dealer costs. My point really was more to do with the irony of why a small manufacturer would basically thumb their nose at the exposure to a large group of people who otherwise have likely never heard of them. I would be very surprised if they go beyond a cease and desist letter, if that.
@@StealthParrot, I take everything you said onboard, except "material and labour." That pre-amp's design spared every expense on materials and was built by a lad in a shed. 😂

@@redolgreg That is a damn good question, if I got it right them the manufacture (Tom Evans) send this device to Mark with a statement that Mark could not repair it, that sound odd in some way, so either Tom Evans is a raving lunatic or he really believed that this unit was beyond repair which really puts Tom's electronics skills to the test, or he was just drunk and not in control of what he was doing that day. There must be more to that story between Mark and Tom?
This is a excellent example of how a manufacturer can ruin their reputation. I also saw that previous video and I don't understand how this reputation could have arisen at all for such work.
And trying to censor the video will only make it worse. His circuit design and theory might hold some value to Hi-Fi enthusiasts, but, his mechanical design sucks. And it would've been easier for him to hire a junior mech eng. to develop a new mounting assembly. Even I could probably create a better method for routing the wiring. Mounting the PC boards on the top and bottom of a mounting plate that is then mounted to the chassi would make pretty much remove of the problems with his design. He made the assembly overcomplicated and janky by only focusing on sanding numbers off 😅
As a builder and repairer of audio amplifiers and pre-amps for some 50 years now I admire Mark's skills and tenacity (and his workshop!). Even though the Tom Evans Pre-amp is built using sound electronic theory I question the use of tantalum capacitors. They are one of the most unreliable components I have found in hi-fi equipment. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Keep up the good work.
They sometimes try to set the board on fire! 😂 Well, "the problem" could be solved by a hypothetical 4 year old in my case! Me: "So, Andrew, what is the problem here you think" Andrew(4): "The smoke, the smell... and the small fire at the corner" Me: "That's right!" 😂
I have used tantalum capacitors with varying results and would be interested in the observations by others. I have had trouble where they may be subject to high inrush current (ie across a power supply rail) but great results when used for example used for emitter decoupler in a small signal circuit where current is very limited. In my life I have seen too many burnt ones though!
@@g0fvt I've serviced thousands of video game PCB's from the 80's and 90's that have tens and sometimes up to 100 or more tantalum caps on each board. Any half-skilled tech could figure out what they'd done, not that they'd done anything spectacular. A bunch of power supplies and op-amps clustered together is little more than a breadboard design shoved in a box, and certainly not worthy of the pricetag. I have watched your channel before, but now I have subscribed to help support what you do. This situation is wrong and I suspect in the long run, the "manufacturer" of that device will regret the Streisand effect that he has launched upon himself.
Found a link to the original video. If you click it, UA-cam is happy to let you know: "Video unavailable. This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Tom Evans"
There is only one person that will have wanted that video taken down and we all know who that is. Shame on him, but well done on your subscriber numbers Mark. Keep up the good work :)
I did watch that video and you didn't do anything wrong. Shame on the manufacturer indeed, they don't understand that by doing that they're just shooting in their feet. Congrats for the 100K, very well deserved!!
Tom Adam's pathetic actions will only make matters worse. Just Google "tom evans mastergroove" to see how far details of his abysmal build quality has spread. The emperor has been shown to be naked 😄
Too bad Mark, that was a great video and you did great work on the repair, I was quite astonished on how well the lid came out after gluing and polishing! What a shame.
Now I have to add; I had never heard of Mark or this channel. I watch many electronics repair channels, or I did until I found this, thanks to LR. I have been binging on Mark's back catalogue, and now have to pace myself so I don't run out. It has been an interesting journey, watching Mark's past three or so years condensed down to a month. What's astonishing is how little he has changed as his subs grow. I notice mainly a growth in his confidence, not in his abilities which speak for themselves, but with his audience. We now see a little more of Mark, when he subtly jokes with us, but the core is a bloke who is totally passionate about what he does and is simply delighted to share it with us. I don't watch Mark because he is a master technician ( he clearly is ), as there are plenty of them all over YT, along with many who are not. I watch him as he humbly takes us on the journey, admitting his mistakes, acknowledging his rare failures, and just being a decent, honest bloke who you might meet at a pub with a dart in his hand. I dunno if Mark goes to pubs at all, I am just saying he is an unassuming genius who deserves far more subs than the pretentious people who actually get them. I can never do what Mark does, as much as I would love to. I just love his channel, and wish there were more like it. I thank Mr Rossman and a certain Welshman for raising the awareness of Mend It Mark.
Hold on. I remember watching the original video and you saying something along the lines of the customer said you wouldn’t be able to repair it, assuming that you may have issues getting support/ schematics because it was an ‘artisanal’ product. I didn’t realise it was sent by the ‘artisan’ (or something) as some sort of gauntlet throw-down. If they can’t even package their goods safely for shipping what hope do we have for the quality of their cardboard shimmed product??? Congrats on your UA-cam plaque. Hopefully there’s room on the wall to display along with your swimming certificates 😁. Once again, many thanks for the excellent videos Mark, keep it up fella
When I build something and it turns out to have a noticeable flaw, the wife and I refer to it as "artisinal". Numbers sanded off the components is a dead giveaway. The company I used to work for, marked their components only with their internal part numbers. Of course, they were all standard parts, ordered from the manufacturer with custom markings. This was done *solely* to prevent third parties from servicing the boards. Odd that the manufacturer should have sent it to you for repair...they were obviously aware of your UA-cam channel. What did they think would happen?
@@antronargaiv3283 Asus do this in motherboards, graphics cards and possibly other products too. They have their own markings on ICs to mess with people but they're just that, remarking a of common ICs on the market. I think the only goal is to make it difficult to get replacement components so people just buy a new one instead
@@antronargaiv3283 The only way I can think of that happening, ie: manufacturer sending it to Mark is, The customer must have sent the amp to the manufacturer, the manufacturer said it can't be fixed and will have to send it back. The customer must have said, ship it to Mark instead of me.
Fortunately I've seen the original video and and was really shocked what could one try to sell for that money. Also wiping off the names of the components is just really pure and insecure. Good and reasonable manufacturers rather show "inside" pictures of their products that you can appreciate their craftsmanship. Good lesson about to be careful and know what you are buying and spending money for. Many thanks Mark for your great educating and entertaining videos. Keep going.
Not just insecure, but outright fraud and deception. "Hand matched, hand crafted, only 10 a year, blah blah blah blah". Nope. Just decent off-the-shelf components using the reference designs.
@@freecycling6687 I've being checking a lot of high-end stuff in last 20y, I must say there are mainly 2 types: 1. Re-used quality Japanese/asian electronics in very flashy case 2. Completely DIY crap which marked as hand made by some voodoo audio cultist engineers
I came here from Louis' channel and I just wanted to say I wish you the best and hope this mess can be sorted in some way. Congratulations on the 100k mark. You surely deserve it.
Congratulations on the award! As others have said, the manufacturer is probably embarrassed by your previous video showing how shoddy the build quality is for £25k.
Rossman sent me, hat's off, you did very high quality work on less than quality gear. Way more than it deserved in hindsight, but you wouldn't have known that then.

Fantastic Louis, this really needs to happen.
From another Mark: I'd love to see how that pans out!
The manufacturer doesn't want people see the emperor has no clothes.
Yeah. First sale doctrine - this is consumer good not a piece of media. If they are not happy with putting their brand on it - nobody forces them lol.
It's gotta be that. Mark is on it when it comes to copyright music.
And they acted in an absolutely underhanded manner. Civilized people can discuss this stuff on technical merits alone. They stopped so low the stoop hit them in the head. Absolutely shameful what they did.
This. The manufacturer got butthurt. Rubbish overpriced perspex anyhow.
as 30 year audiophile alot of this so called high end stuff is way overpriced and mark has exposed that good for him, if that TE had sold his phono stage for a resonable price he would have made more units and more money but no they all suffer from greed
Manufacturer - didnt want his shoddy work exposed
nor the comments, which were fairly brutal.
Lol the build looked like a 16 year olds gcse project!
The turtles all the way down design was not impressive.
Well that was a advanced Vellemann kit.
Thank you Tom Evans for introducing me to this wonderful channel and all the information this kind, knowledgeable man has provided his viewers.
I believe the manufacturer's name is on the claim when it says the video is unavailable...if you can find the old link maybe you can verify this.🙏 Ps
Love your videos!
deeming electrical current dangerous is copyrighted. There are a lot relatives of the deceased that claimed they have discovered it.
Yet none claimed a patent after they got bitten.
And believe in coincidence that only this video has been deleted by chance? Come on.
Dangerously probing around in live wires is copyrighted by @ElectroBOOM I think ... 🤔
You have revealed his BS for what it is
Well put.

After seeing Rosmann's video and reupload on NickT6630's channel I have to say something. At first BIG respect to you, Sir Mark for doing this repair, reverse engineering It and showing the people about this how do I call It-scam.
@@freyalewis2460 yeah i think you can get some pretty good audio with cheap components and assmebly like this... but none of that justifies the pricetag

I never heard of Tom Evans, neither I heard about you. But these news spread like a wildfire lately on tech-forums and I cant believe I just watched a 40 minute video about technology that I dont use and dont fully understand. Appreciated and very interesting! All the best to you!
I saw the original video, £25k for that... the designer should be reported under the trades decription act...
Something is worth what people will pay for it. "Artwork" for instance is an example.
@@derkeksinator17 It looks like a prototype, not engineered for mass production.

BTW that copyright strike is pure bullying. Yt really needs to fix this BS.
Much love mate.
British humor at its finest. Splendid work, Mark. You are the real Master of the Groove!

Obviously the opening it up and exposing how it's built was the determining factor. It showed how shoddy the parts were inside. It showed how it was a scam to anyone who purchased it.
There are a few possibilities. I think it may be more the case that Mark essentially reverse engineered the design - revealing that the "secret" to its noise figures has been known for decades.
i have become addicted to your channel. im from north Israel. @@chucklemken8639 not here for that
But why send it to him?
He made the assembly overcomplicated and janky by only focusing on sanding numbers off 😅
@@Rotwold He simply needed one PCB to lay out each channel. Epic failure.

I don't even own a soldering iron and believe this to be one of the best channels on YT!
Me: "So, Andrew, what is the problem here you think"
Andrew(4): "The smoke, the smell... and the small fire at the corner"
Me: "That's right!" 😂
I have used tantalum capacitors with varying results and would be interested in the observations by others.
These are high current situations and I've seen only a handful of bad tantalums spanning 3 decades of work. They do fail, just as much as any other component. The problem is they usually fail short, and take out other components, instead of failing open. I'm not sure if there is a better component that could have been used in this device or not, I'm not an audiophile. If it works, then use it 😃
@@jeffc2190 thank you for your input, yes they do usually fail shorted, I seem to have seen a disproportionate number of failures. They are usually selected for their low series inductance, hence often used on the 5v logic rails.

It was a great repair video. I was shocked at how shoddy the construction of that amplifier is. Really takes gall to sell it for that much money.

If the manufacturer; the very entity that sent the unit to you for repair, is who filed the copyright complaint against you, they need to be publicly ratted out, shamed, and financially penalized.
If that was the case and they know that mark does have a you tube channel, should have insisted on a NDA before purchasing his services
Otherwise it's just fair comment about something in the public domain
Or "united healthcare'd" 🤣
Sounds like a deliberate act by them from the very start. What's next, a copyright claim because the english language was used to describe a circuit? There's nothing new under the sun regarding basic amplifier design (and that's all it was, BASIC).
The manufacturer sent it to Mark on the instruction of the owner, not because they wanted to. Also they were convinced no mere UA-cam engineer could fix it. They had quoted £6000.
@@jimfarrell4635 So... yet another incident of arrogance against the customer by the manufacturer. Rip them off in sales, rip them off in after-sales service.
Manufacturers have always been dumb with their attempts to stop someone understanding how they built something, to make it unrepairable and try to stop someone cloning their product. Any half-skilled tech could figure out what they'd done, not that they'd done anything spectacular. A bunch of power supplies and op-amps clustered together is little more than a breadboard design shoved in a box, and certainly not worthy of the pricetag.
If they'd designed an amp from discrete components I might believe they'd really designed it. But to (so badly) put together something from bog standard ICs in a rather uninventive manner...
