I'm still amazed you haven't done that amazing duet with George Michael of Elton's hit 'Don't let the Sun go down on me' George is on stage performing one of his best ever performances of the song, when Elton just appears from nowhere and turns it into a duet. The ten thousand George fans' reaction will send chills down your spine. For a live performance it's a masterpiece, one of the best I've ever seen!
This!!!
Agree!! Awesome duo!!
agree - and perhaps RocketMan for the next movie night
@@kelly9876 I was just thinking the same!
I could not agree more. That duet gives me chills just thinking about it!
"Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding"--his 11-minute masterpiece that changes direction over and over. A must-listen.
Been suggesting it for over a year lol You're quite correct it's absolutely his finest work, his masterpiece.
The tambourine player tries to steal the show in the classic live version.
Definitely his best. Need to listen to it.
This...☝️
My thoughts exactly. Masterpiece isn't overstating it at all, one of my all-time favorites.
This is one of Elton’s most moving songs. PLEASE do “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” if you haven’t already. That sounds lazy of me; I’ll do a search 😂
Yes, Yes, the ultimate masterpiece of all the great songs of Elton!
They haven't done it yet. I've been requesting it as well.
🤣
My favorite
I second that.
I am 63 and Elton John's music has been a thread of my whole life.
So am I. Hi there
God gave him an amazing voice
Bernie Taupin is one of the greatest poets of my generation.
absolutely!
I agree!
SOMEONE SAVED MY LIFE TONIGHT. One of his very best
Jay & Amber - Didn't I have the best songs to grow up with? Between the hard rock of Zeppelin and Sabbath, to the soft sounds of Elton, the 70s were one heck of a time to be alive!
Amen!
Beeracuda Well said. Facts. So many memories of that time. Thank You.
Cute remark heard once about 1960s, that if you remembered it...then you weren't there
To be alive in the 70s listening to this, it never ages it’s completely timeless.
Elton's songs are so great because he wrote the music, while his working partner, Bernie Taupin, wrote the lyrics. 😉 👍A winning combination for decades!
Elton interpreted them too.
For me this story sums up Elton John. Nearly 15 years ago, I was speaking to my then girlfriend about music. She was 27 years old, and I was 10 years older, she liked Slipknot, Incubus, Chili Peppers, etc. mostly those kinds of bands. I typically liked classic such as zep, etc. We were discussing other artists and we were comparing tastes, etc. I asked if she like elton john, her reply was "duh, it's elton john".
Side note:
Fast forward to 2019, she was my wife, and mother of out 6 year old daughter and soon to be to our 2nd baby girl. We watched rocket mam. Turns out it would basically be the last movie we would sit down and plan to watch together. She passed away in Feb of 2020, a little over 2 months after giving birth to our baby.
Elton John just transcends above any "box", he appeals to all walks of life, ages, class, and sexual orientation. He is certainly one of a kind.
Jay & Amber, you'll love his "Philadelphia Freedom", "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding", and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me"!!!! Don't let the title scare you off on the second one, starts off slow, then its a banger!
FYI, Billy Joel and Elton John did 21 concerts together July 8, 1994 to August 21, 1994! The "Face To Face" tour.
Someone Saved My Life. Phenomenal lyrics!
Philadelphia freedom is my favourite EJ song ❤️
100% agree on “Funeral for a Friend.” It’s an amazing piece of music. Know going in that it’s over 11 minutes long, but it’s so good.
I'll very much second Funeral/love lies. It is by far Elton's finest work. A true masterpiece.
My husband and I attended one of these concerts in Louisville at Freedom Hall! Loved all the incredible music!!
Elton's homage to John Lennon, Empty Garden, is another beautiful, sad song. One of his most emotive.
One of the saddest songs ever written sung so emotionally. Such brilliant music Elton wrote to Bernie's lyrics.
He sings so sincerely...like he is telling a real story.
You're right, and you have just scratched the surface of Elton's music. Keep digging, he has many layers.
I was born in the 1960s and grew up in the 1970s listening to Elton John, so his songs from this period will always hold a special place in my heart. If you want some suggestions for your next EJ reaction try Border Song, Take Me To The Pilot, Levon, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding(The 1st half of the song(s) is all instrumental, but very cool to listen to), Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Philadelphia Freedom, Island Girl, The Bitch is Back.
Oooh I forgot Island Girl. That's another great song!!!! Nice catch (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
@@alexandervasel6845 Classic song of his.
Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics first and Elton wrote the music later. A heart wretching tale about a relationship that is falling apart.
Grabbing at your emotions to take you through the pain that is felt when you know your relationship is over, but then coming to face the end has come. 😭😭
A beautiful song with such emotional
instuments, the violins and Elton's voice
joining together to break your heart. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Bernie was the goods.
This is their only song where Elton wrote the medley first and it inspired Bernie’s lyrics.
Bernie Taupin who wrote all his lyrics deserves equal billing. Together they were so, so perfect. What a team
I will forever remember the first time I heard this song. It broke my heart. Absolutely gutted me. It still makes me cry, every time I listen to it. What a gift Elton and Bernie gave to us with this one. ❤💔
Me too
I was 16 when this came out. Being a teenager in the 70s was pretty special. I believe music like this helped to form who I am today.
Would you like to hear Elton sing with John Lennon. John asked Elton to join him on his 1974 single "Whatever Gets You Through the Night." Think you'll like the harmonies.
I’d forgotten how incredibly, achingly beautiful and haunting this song is. Thanks for reminding me.
Elton's song "Philadelphia Freedom" from 1975 is my favorite for so many perfect reasons...you gotta hear it!!
Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Philadelphia Freedom, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and The Circle of Life (the last two from the original and best 1994 version of Lion King) are the Elton hits you have yet to do.
As you love moving and thought provoking songs, none more emotional than Empty Garden. RIP Mr. Lennon.
Bernie Tupin's words along with Elton's music and voice. Both are at their best together
Elton also had a UKnumber 1 with this song in a collab with British boy band Blue
When I was young, I heard Yellow Brick Road and was amazed at his talent. He went on to have countless hits and many fans.
This song was covered by Ray Charles on what turned out to be his final recording. Elton was there as this was a duet. Elton said that Ray was astonishing and laser focussed. Even so close to death, the man could still bring it. The session ended when Ray told Elton that he wasn't feeling very well. He walked out of the studio and never returned.
If you DO end up reacting to that version, keep napkins nearby, because you won't be able to keep your eyes dry.
Remember, keep in mind Bernie Taupin is the lyricist for literally almost every song Elton sings…Elton is the composer…but yes, Elton is also the voice.
Just the Greatest singer ever. I love my Rock and Roll. But nothing better than Sir Elton John ❤.
one of the greatest
I love the duet he did with Ray Charles of this song!
Damn, Elton John and Billy Joel on the same day. Talk about smashing out some legends!
He's a true legend, for a reason....
There was a time when this song played on the radio all the time.
Y'all may be surprised to learn that Elton is a huge country music fan. He related his admiration for the late great "Gentleman" Jim Reeves to whom he, Elton, listened in his youth. He has spoken of his appreciation many more times.
Love the glasses but as Amber says, WHATEVER. Elton is so flamboyant and it's perfect for him.
My all-time favorite Elton song - got me through SO many rough times.
ELTON JOHN'S song I'M STILL STANDING is my favorite song and also an anthem for those who have persevered through things.
SAD SONGS and NO SACRIFICE are two more great hits from him.
Another great song from Elton John is "Hey Hey Johnny (Empty Garden)" is Elton's tribute to his friend John Lennon when he passed
ELTON JOHN was the great composer of the music for his songs... but he also owes his success to the beauty of their lyrics. However, it was BERNIE TAUPIN who was the lyricist for the texts of the majority of his great successes, including: Your Song (1970), Tiny Dancer (1971), Rocket Man (1972), Candle in the Wind (1973 / 1997) , Bennie and the Jets (1973), Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973), Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me (1974), Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word (1976), Don't Go Breaking My Heart ( 1976, duet with Kiki Dee), I'm Still Standing (1983), Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues (1983), Nikita (1985), Sacrifice (1989) and The one (1992). Thanks to you two.
One of my favourites by him though he does have so many to choose from.
There are few like Elton, you can go 50-60 deep into his catalog and it is still hits and amazing songs.
As Jacqueline says, please do "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" which is from the album "Captain Fantastic"! Since Amber referred to Elton as "fantastic:" it would only be appropriate. Then do his tribute to John Lennon, "Empty Garden". 😁
The music world struck gold when Elton John met lyricist Bernie. Solid gold!
What a team was Elton, and the genius writing of Bernie Taupin!
I know for 100% certain that you two would LOVE "Harmony" by Elton.
Love Elton's beautiful "The Last Song"
Got another great old Elton song that you will love. The Greatest Discovery. You have kids you ll love it
I just saw him in Vegas 3 weeks ago. Still puts on an amazing show.
Another great love song from Elton is "The One".
My ex wife and I saw him in concert 8 times. Every one of his concerts were wonderful.
This song was another one possibility to dance a girl in my 1990s school years. Great!
Terrific performance. Excellent rendition!!!❤🎶🙌👍
I'm yours.❤💘💝
Imagine now a boy band asking Elton permission to do a cover - Not only did Elton say yes, he joined in check out 'Blue Featuring Elton John - Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word' - bringing Elton to another age group / fanbase - very shrewd.
And he was so funny about the singing - he said he would sing because no one else was so he just did it. And what an iconic voice!
Elton John was able to take Bernie Taupin's lyrics and put absolutely magical music to it. He also performed it beautifully.
One of my many favorites! His older catalog, absolutely amazing!
To me Elton is one of the greatest composers of music in the last 100 years mixed with one of the greatest voices of the last 100 years.
Great song !!! Someone saved my life tonight or Empty Garden (Dedicated to John Lennon) both great great songs !!!
This is my favourite Elton John song. 'No Sacrifice' possibly being next in line.
Thank you both.
Had the great pleasure to attend the first of last weekends three shows at Dodger stadium and it was an awesome show. Sort of bookends for me as I was at his first Dodger stadium show as a 10 year old back in 1975 and as others have mentioned his music has been like a soundtrack of my life. What a thrill to spend this last show with my wife and 21 year old daughter and 19 year old son who sang along just a loud as I did another generation enjoying the magic that is Sir Elton John. Most remarkable was that of his 5piece band that night three, guitarist Davey Johnstone, percussionist Ray Cooper, and drummer Nigel Olson had all been playing with Elton on records and live since the early 1970s. Truly a night to remember and a career to celebrate.
Elton John-Funeral for a friend/Love lies bleeding. The best
Burn down the mission - Elton John
It’s an amazing song!
Blessed is another elton john masterpiece
My favorite Elton John songs are “Mona Lisas & Mad Hatters” and “All the girls love Alice”
Many of his lesser known songs are some of his best. Elderberry Wine, Amoorena....
The one by Elton is pure magic
this is one of the most iconic and remarkable songs of mid 70S and also one of the best songs out of the huge massive list it's been almost five decades since it was released and still nowdays here and there still played
Elton has-been part of my life from the very beginning. I was in high school at that time. I have seen him 4times, most recently a few weeks ago on his farewell tour. Thanks for your reactions!!
Elton John: 'The Last Song', particularly his performance at the Greek Theater. Per Elton John: "I was crying all the time as I wrote the music."
Sir Elton is not only a fabulous musician and style icon, he was knighted for his services to charity. He has his own AIDS foundation and has raised MILLIONS for charity during his lifetime, making such a difference ❤️
Thanksgiving 1974 , Elton John brought John Lennon on stage for what would be John Lennon’s last live performance. There’s a video of them doing “When I Saw Her Standing There”, an old Beatles song.
Agreed, Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding should definitely be the next reaction. If you want some more upbeat Elton, i'd go for Kiss The Bride. Also, ones that don't really get mentioned are Nobody Wins, Crystal, and Island Girl.
Besides Harmony this is right at the top of Elton's best songs.
Oh yeah! Love, love Elton John. ✌❤🎶
Despite all the music Elton has made and all the albums he's released, the first one, "Tumbleweed Connection", (1970), is probably still my favorite. He became more jaded and more bedazzled as time went on, and I like the Innocence and purity of the first one. Beyond that first album, this is truly one of the best things he ever did. You should hear it done with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Chills!
"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is a minor Elton John masterpiece. Check it out!
Elton is truly one of the best, growing up it seems he always had a new hit constantly on the radio, so many hits. I know you two love his music and you love John Lennon. They were good friends and when John was killed Elton wrote "Empty garden", such a beautiful song I know you two will love, he rarely played it live because it because Johns loss hurt so much to him. Please give it a try
One of my favorite Elton songs is Empty Garden about the loss of John Lennon. It’s not widely played but is Amazing!!!
You need a day to just listen to Elton’s songs!!! He has sooo many hits!
I've seen Elton 4 or 5 times in my life, starting in Dallas, Tx, at Moody Coliseum in 1979. Moody is on the grounds of SMU and holds less than 8,000 people. My High School Graduation was held there. It was Elton's single-man tour in 1979. the two-hour show, just Elton and his Piano for the first hour. In the second hour, he added his percussionist Ray Cooper. I sat in the 11th row for the show. It was amazing. Played almost everything up to that point in his catalog. My friend who I went with to the show at Moody Coliseum just saw Elton at Dodger Stadium twice this last week.
70s Elton was the best ever, great reaction! Please do Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding next!
Out of all his hits this is my favorite of all his songs!
I like how you two analyze the songs Elton performs. It gives me a different perspective of him and just how amazing his songs are...
August 1994 in St Louis - Billy Joel and Elton John together in concert. One of the best shows ever.
I find it incredible that Bernie Taupin wrote the words FIRST, and then Elton wrote the music. How could that be?
My favorite version of this song is live in Melbourne with the symphony orchestra 🙌 If you haven't heard that version yet, PLEASE go savor it. It's incredible!
I'm going right now. I love slow orchestral music!!! I can't wait. 😎
That whole show is incredible. I listen to that a lot. There's some great songs on there that you wouldn't expect him to do live, but they where perfect songs to do with the orchestra. Sixty Years On, Have Mercy On the Criminal, The King Must Die, The Greatest Discovery, Madman Across The Water, to name a few, all fantastic.
I just went and watched it - WOW!
I just made almost the same comment! That was unbelievable, wasn't it?
@@davidrold9770 agreed that entire concert was EXCELLENT!! Goosebumps!!!
Ethereal and melancholic masterpiece from someone in the groove at the time . My personal fav is Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
👍🏴
Better n better n better, that's Elton. Lyrical genius Bernie Taupin combined with musical melodic genius Elton = massive hits for 6 decades.
Sir Elton John!! Creating Beautiful, Heartfelt Music 🎶 Since The Late 60's! 🎹
I was 12 years old when this came out, I had a pretty hard and vivid life growing up so the first time I heard this, it touched me in a way that this type of music doesn’t really resonate with children of that age. I still can’t hear it today, without wanting to cry, in a very positive way.
You know, when Elton John passes, it will take weeks for the radio songs to play all of his songs as tributes.
Crazy you mentioned Elton at Dodger Stadium. I saw a photo of him at that concert that a customer had prominently displayed in their home.
Oh my gosh. Love Sir Elton.
Elton has more talent in his little finger than all the other artists put together .
Elton John was my first concert. Loved him then, love him now!!
It's a shame he is doing a farewell tour. 😔😪
My first concert too! 1976 his bicentennial tour.
@@donnagonatas3155 1989 for me, Donna.
Oh, I adore this song!! Dodger Stadium was the last US stop on hid last world tour. I saw him there in 75 & this tour in San Diego. He's amazing live!!
Bernie Taupin wrote most of the Lyrics for Elton's song and deserves big credit.
One of the most beautiful falsettos in music
I remember listening to this song I still remember I was 9 years old one of the greatest songs I've ever heard I am 53 years old now Elton John is always one of my favorites
LITTLE JEANNIE, BLUE EYES & SAD SONGS ARE HUGE SONGS 💯 💪💯
Elton and Bernie Taupin have such a connection when writing music, it is truly amazing. Elton during an interview many years back said they aren't even in the same room when they write these songs, he said Bernie writes all the lyrics then he sends them over to him and he does the musical side which he also sets them tempo and the direction of the song. The lyrics Bernie sends him for a song usually resonates with him so when he starts putting the music to the lyrics the song just flows from him from what I understand. They are just two artist that together make great music with each giving just as much as the other.😀
He is just perfection
