Some people can't apologize because they won't admit they were wrong and foolish pride gets in the way too. I'm glad you separated yourself from those people.
Your dad's really missing out, JB! Perhaps, one day, God will bring him to his senses before it's too late. One of my cousins who did not have his father around while he was growing up... I got to see his confrontation with his father once he became a young adult. It was pretty saddening-- he simply told his father he had another man in his life (his stepdad) whom he considered as his father because his actual father was never there. It was a very dishonorable experience for his father who my cousin did not see as worthy of any honor-- perhaps rightly so.
Sometimes song takes me to the bad places, just hits me down the memory lane & I think about my ex wife, even dream of her! That aside, music is the best healer of heart, soul & mind! I agree that this guy deserves all the best in.life! His eyes don't lie!
You're breaking my heart man. As a big, white skinhead dude from the UK. you're breaking my heart brother. I'm so sorry your dad wasn't there and you felt the way you did. You're a good man, I can tell.
Dad is very important to any young person. So God gave you your grandfather to be that stand in. This is what the enemy of our souls wants.....to tear up families....missing dad's....missing mom's. Take this and when you make a family one day....stay and be the dad you always wanted. Love your wife and children and with God's help, maybe we can turn this around together.
Being this video is a few days old you may not read this. Your story touched me...and actually brought tears (not easy for a 54 yr old guy). I cannot image the pain you have felt thru your young life. I wanted to bust thru the screen and just hug you. You are a very sensitive and beautiful person and I would be proud to call you my son.
When I lost my father 66 years ago this month I looked at his casket and wished that I could write a letter. At 10 years old I was just stunned and I felt empty. When you shared your story I had to stop the video. I cried and I went and told my wife about it she also shared your pain. She lost her father to a driver running a stop sign. Neither one of us has stopped grieving. Your story touched us both. You are probably the most genuine person doing reaction videos.
This is what makes a singer a legend. He connects with the people and he goes from songs like this to happy songs and back. He hits all of the emotions. We are a better world for having Elton John in it.
I’m sorry you felt that way. No child should ever feel that way. I never experienced that growing up. I know if my sons had been gay or if my grandchildren where that way I’d still love them no matter what. We are all Gods children. Your father has missed out knowing what a wonderful young man you have grown into. Stay loving&forgiving always💕
My heart breaks for you for being abandoned by your father ,it’s something no child should have to experience. It certainly is his loss he just doesn’t have it in him ,you have to love the little boy you were yourself ,and now look at you ,smart ,sensitive and enjoying the beauty of music and sharing it with all of us . The best is yet to come young man .
There are few things in this world better than Elton John. He is a legend, and you really can't go wrong. Especially with his older songs (and by that I mean 70s, the man has been a legend for 50 years).
My heart went out to you when you told us about your thoughts when you were 7. According to the latest Census figures, about 50 percent of African American boys under age 17 live with a mother only, compared with 16 percent of their white counterparts. Research shows that children in fatherless homes are more likely to drop out of school, exhibit behavioral problems, end up in the criminal justice system, suffer unemployment, and are at a greater risk of substance and drug abuse.
So instead of wondering where the hell your so-called father is, be proud of yourself. Inspite of it all you have this lovely YTube channel which we all enjoy so much. Keep it up and don't get lost in the past. Big X from The Netherlands.
My father died when I was 6. If my mother hadn't tried hard to always know where I was, who I was with, and what I was doing, I probably would just be getting out of the pen 50 years later. My brother agrees with me.
I was a young teen when I heard 'Someone Saved My Life Tonight'. I loved his '70's music because it was my soundtrack of my teenage years. I'm happy to see you experience it and love it the way we did back then. You grew up a good man, because of or in spite of your circumstances. I grew up as a fatherless daughter in the ' 60's, bastard was the word I heard back then. Glad it's not a significant stigma today.
A beautiful song!! Elton John is Iconic. He is a superstar!! It wasn't your fault and he is a fool. It seems like you turned out to be a fine young man regardless.👏🥰
I'm so sorry for your pain. As many have already said it is his loss not to have a fine, intelligent and caring son in his life like you are. But thank God we have gotten you. You are correct, this is an absolutely beautiful song. Thank you for you.
@@AliShabanov A matter of perspective, I guess. "I've seen some shit. But hey, I made it through, and I'm better than ever." That message got me through some hard times in my own life. But, OK. For you, that's depressing. Cool story.

I would love to see a interviews! Also, remember with Elton John some of his most amazing songs were a collaboration. Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics, Elton writes the music. The music however is what makes you feel the lyrics. So it was a perfect collaboration. A match made in Heaven.
So many of us had father's like that. The really sad part though is that we are more than likely better off that they weren't around. I know that my father was a truly hateful and evil individual and I KNOW that either my Mom or one of us kids, if not all of us, would be dead if he'd stayed around. There's no doubt in my mind. Sweety, sometimes we're better off without them. My father never apologized. He only tried to justify his absence. He's dead now. I don't miss him at all. There's nothing good about him to miss.
I wish I could give you a hug. I too had a parent who was there but never showed us kids love. Find Joy in life we must all let the hurt from the past float away like a balloon. Now please watch Elton sing I'm still standing.
I had a father who was always there for me. An exceptionally good, smart, empathetic and kind man. My problem was knowing I could never be as good as he was. That was MY sadness and hurt. I felt like a disappointment. He passed away a year ago. I spoke at his memorial service. I found my voice for the first time. I belted out a eulogy loud and clear like I had never dared. It flowed out like water. There was laughter and there were tears. Afterwards I realized it was so easy because I knew he was not in the congregation maybe being disappointed with me. Then it occurred to me that I was just as decent a man as he, and I always had been. He had just set a very high bar. How fortunate I was that he had. Sometimes people attain greatness BECAUSE of something they were given, and sometimes DESPITE something that they were denied. In both our cases it was love. I found my strong voice at last. I am 67. You have found it early and you are destined for greatness my Good man, as well as your children who will be so very, very lucky.
I always assumed he was singing about a lover, but your interpretation is brilliant, that he could be singing to his parents! Of course, it's both! If you don't get recognition from parents, you're going to attract partners who treat you the same way (until you find a way to forgive the parents, heal the pain and stop the pattern). I'm so sorry your father wasn't able to be who you needed, but you clearly didn't need him to grow into the wonderful man that you are. Truly his loss. Your reactions are so much deeper and more thoughtful than others I've seen. I love your work, James, you're awesome!
Sir Elton was a close friend of our dear Freddie Mercury. Please do "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". You did Angelina Jordan's version but you need to hear the original, beloved by millions.💙
The greatest sings are those that can touch us and tap into our personal experience - even though we have experienced something different - it can speak to us individually - I am so glad you were moved by this song and that it resonates with you - its a song that makes me cry for my own reasons and yes, Eltion is a musical genius. Love to all
If I want a good cry, I just listen to this or Someone Saved My Life Tonight. I dont know why some can never apologize for their wrongdoing. Just have to get rid of the toxic people in your life. You deserve much better. ♥️
Sir Elton is one of the true pioneers of blue-eyed soul. 💙 His entire catalogue is legendary.💙 Sometimes saying one is sorry isn’t about who is right or wrong, it’s about valuing the relationship more than ones ego. P.S. I was adopted at 27 months old. I have dealt with that abandonment my entire life. I understand your pain. Sometimes the parents that abandoned children were also abandoned and/or abused. It could’ve been worse with him in your life. It’s not easy, but try to find the grace. Some peace will eventually find your heart. ☮️💟🌹
Man, summer of '76. One of the best years ever to be a kid. Nothing like the smell of the chlorine from the swimming pool and the crackle of the radio from the speaker system playing music like this....
Elton John is a great talent, singer and songwriter! He has a ton of great songs "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Your Song", "Empty Garden" and many more!
Wow, that's deep. I grew up with this song, and didn't know he was gay. You really brought it home to me. You are going to be an amazing Dad, you totallly understand what a child needs. Too bad for your Dad that he didn't get to know you, you are awesome.
Elton John is the Best! He longed for his Dads love too... basically it was NOT him or you it was their issue. Their messed up problems had nothing to do with their kids...the kids just suffered from them. Really Sad.
Elton's greatest song. While it's true as noted below that Bernie Taupin writes the words, it's also true that Taupin arguably knows Elton better than anyone, and he sometimes writes from Elton's perspective, saying things for Elton that Elton can't say for himself
Thank you for opening up the dialogue. It's his loss. I had the same issues with my father. I learned it was his loss and make sure my daughter doesn't ever feel that way. But sorry is the hardest word because we know it isn't enough, but it's a start....
Omg; I feel so sad for what you went through; no child should experience this, no child; children need to be loved at all times. I was very fortunate; my parents always made me feel special; especially my dad. He was a workaholic, but every Saturday he would take me out to a very special place of my choosing, and would spoil me. My mother was nurturing and a loving sole and loved and nurtured each and dad. I was fortunate to come from a loving home. Once I adventured out into the world I was many times -still are on occasions- taken by surprise and shock, to witness the horrors of what some innocent children had to experience in their homes which suppose to be a place of support and save-loving heaven for them. I became a teacher because of what I saw and teach support and love to my kids as much as I possibly can. You can’t love unless you’re where loved.
I want to hug you so much, I feel for you. You are a lovely young man and your father was the one who lost out. I lived through the 60's 70's and so much was written then with so much feeling. Stay safe.
You have a tender soul, JB. My heart goes out to you. That said, Elton wasn't a lyricist. He had a partner/friend who wrote all the lyrics. Elton wrote all the music. The music just OOZED from his fingers. But he couldn't write lyrics to save his life. There may be exceptions, but none that I know of.
My favorite's Elton John song! And he is one of my favorite singer of all time! Thanks for reacting to that song! Try his song ''Goodbye Yellow Brick road''. This is another of my favorite song by him. Continue to reacting to great songs.
Such a raw emotional reaction, i think we all appreciate you opening up to us and baring your soul. You're totally right that Elton never had the approval of his father (he never came to a single concert). And his relationship with his mother was always very strained right up until her recent death. Normally Elton's lyricist bernie Taupin takes the lead and sends Elton the lyrics ahead of time... but this song was different- Elton wrote the melody and the words. They truly come from his heart, and as a lifelong fan of Elton i had never thought of the song in this way until now- a call to his parents to accept him and love him for who he is... the saddest part is they never did. This is why you are the best reaction channel around- you tease all these new meanings from songs we all thought we knew, and it's like hearing them again for the first time. Really appreciate everything you're doing. Thank you again!
Wow. It takes on a whole new meaning to think it was directed toward a parent, and if you watch Rocketman on Hulu, you’d guess it must be the dad. I noticed in the video, which I didn’t even know existed, that he’s all stripped down. Very minimalist when normally he was flamboyant like Liberace. No crazy glasses or clothes. Just him, exposed and alone with his piano. Very interesting. You could really feel his pain coming through. Thank you for showing this one!
after listening to your reaction I finally understand this song completely. It would be awesome to start interviewing you have such a deep understanding of humanity and emote very well you would do well
Elton's voice still gives me goosebumps I love him. As for your Dad he clearly can take no credit for the lovely person you are today. You can choose your friends but unfortunately you can't choose your family. Not a day goes by when I don't tell my girls I love them , love is the answer to everything. Great reaction, be proud of who you are.
JB .. Remember you are the person you are today because of your life experiences .. a genuine kind hearted individual that understands so much because of your experiences ..realise that your father has missed out on knowing the great person you are ! 60,000 plus people across the world love you man !! And more will come
One of my favorite Elton John songs along with Candle In The Wind and Rocket Man... Sorry it's one of the hardest words to say because no one wants to admit they were wrong. Thanks for sharing more of you with us! Keep it up!
It is sad that you had to go through those things as a child, but take solace in the fact that you recognize it and have become a better person in spite of that. You have a good soul, don't ever lose that.
My Dad left the family exactly when I was 7. My Mom was everything for me, but I believe the fact that I was growing up without a farter figure affected my syche for the rest of my life. I am with you, JB.
Your parents can only give you what they got sometimes it's not enough , just remember forgiveness is for you not for them it's for you; if your a good person your going to be ok, give what you didn't get love.
I'm so very sorry that your dad wasn't there for you. Just remember, it's him, not you. You did nothing wrong. Elton's song resonates with a lot of people. This one is particularly touching. Thank you. ❤
I'm 42 and I haven't got an apology from my absentee father either, but I've come to accept it. Forgiveness seems to be the hardest, but it's the only way to move forward. New subscriber, love your reactions ❤️
Love your reactions, really love how you connect with Karen Carpenter & this is my favorite Elton John song. You feel the music which is why I watch you. Thanks for sharing, what a kind soul you have. God bless you!
Thank you for sharing your personal life with us. You sound like you're a very good hearted person. So sorry for the hurt you have carried for so long. There are so many people in the world unfortunately that can relate to your story in their lives.
Absolutely you should start interviewing the Artists. And I wish you great success with it! -Elton John if you're out there watching this, please, please, please be one of the first.
I will always respect you and watch your videos. Your reactions are truly sincere, heartfelt and joyful. You respect all varieties of music, you're not clowning, you approach it maturely and with excitement to hear new sounds. You're the best and I love you to death!! Keep it going JB, I wish I could suggest SO MUCH music to you, even back to the 1930s. Music is a part of our soul no matter the style or era. 💙💙👏👏🙏🙏
Great reaction! I’m so sorry you’ve been hurt by so many. Two great EJ songs - Your Song and Someone Saved My Life Tonight. I’d love to see you react to those.
His Dad was a piece of work and his mother wasn't much better! It breaks my heart the anguish you felt as a child. You have turn into a lovely person.Remember you will ALWAYS be a better man than your Dad.Peace Love.
That would be incredible to watch you interview some of these artists. It'd be cool to get some insight from them and maybe some current artists would see it and put us on a path to getting back to what made music so great back in the day.
Got for it JB!! Reach out to them and some will respond in kind to your genuine love of music, sharing your heart openly, and beautifully expressing all of these authentic emotional reactions to their music. The 20's is the era of Old School Music Lovers and The NEW REACTOR's! May all of your wildest dreams come true. God bless you!
My niece, whom I raised since she was 7, just came out to me now that she is 18. And all I could do was tell her how much I loved her, how brave I thought she was, and she is will always be the pride of my heart and love of my life. I am so sorry that your father never had the privilege of getting to know you. Much love to you, peace and blessings. Always. As I say, Love is love is love.
Elton Johns music and songs always make me feel so much better. He has the most sensational ability to put into words many of the things I have felt in the 60 years that I have been walking through this journey called My Life. Thank you Elton. I have been and will always be a fan. James~ you are on the right path. Yoy have a good heart. I admire you so much. Sending Hugz from Texas. I'm glad I found you. Be blessed.
thanks JB for the video...i didn't have my Dad either.i gave up on looking for his love a long time ago......what a waste........much love to you brother...keep up the great work
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST REACTION VIDEO EVER. BECAUSE ITS TOTALLY REAL. HOW YOU HELD IT TOGETHER I DON'T KNOW. BUT THAT'S WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT PERSON
Elton John is a God. Every single thing I know of his (many, many) was better than the last. I think it was around the "I'm still standing" time when it went a little off the rails because he became a Broadway composer and that is another triumph for him even if his pop music suffered a bit. Annnywho, my God what a LEGEND. I can never get enough of his classics like this.
Elton is a true master of his craft. Songs like this one, funeral for a Friend and all the girls love Alice are just a few examples of the dozens of excellent songs that prove he is one of the best singer songwriters of all time.
My kids are and we’re always the most important and loved ppl in my life. I’ll never understand parents where this is not the case. My heart hurts for you that you had to ask your dad to love you when that love should be unconditional.
Music is the great equalizer-touches so many of us and our experiences. Your story was heartbreaking, I hope you understand now that your father “not wanting you” was never about you at all. 🤗 hugs
You will love, laugh, and cry to these Elton tunes, Madman Across The Water, INDIAN summer, Levon, Border Song, Amoreena, Daniel,And so much more great ones from 1970 through 1974!
I never thought of that, you could very well be right. We know he had to search for acceptance. It really is so sad, so many children should not have to feel this way. The song means more to me now. It is a pain that never does go away. I suggest you reach out to your father and ask him straight up the things you need to know from him. Time is short, it passes more quickly than you can imagine. I think interviewing artists is a great idea, and I"m sure there will be a lot that will be happy to do them with you.
The beauty of lyrics like this is you can change the meaning to suit you. It doesn't matter what Bernie Taupin (Elton John's lyricist) had in mind, his words are now yours.
I can tell you that YOU don’t need to DO anything- you are a kind and thoughtful young man and it’s very clear to everyone on this page.
I second that Billy.
You're a good guy JB. Your dad doesn't know what he's missing.

my dad left when i was 2, met him once when i was 18. many years later i stood over his grave and thought, it was his loss.

Fact, Elton and Bernie one of the greatest song writing team never spent one day working in the same room. What a team. Don’t Let The Sun Go Down.
However, Elton didn't write the lyrics. At this point it was his partner Bernie Taupin.
Elton is great. I’m still standing.
I guess that’s why they call it the blues is great also!
Bernie Taupin
My favorite's Elton John song! And he is one of my favorite singer of all time! Thanks for reacting to that song! Try his song ''Goodbye Yellow Brick road''. This is another of my favorite song by him. Continue to reacting to great songs.
I was blessed to attend an Elton John concert in the late 70s. What a show! He is a legend and rightfully so.
I saw him on the farewell tour in 2018; he and the band were still awesome!!
Thank you for showing this one!
this and 'Your Song' some of the most beautiful songs musically and lyrically he did.
after listening to your reaction I finally understand this song completely.
Dear James, you are going to be a wonderful Dad.
He is an amazing young man, I absolutely love his reactions
JB .. Remember you are the person you are today because of your life experiences .. a genuine kind hearted individual that understands so much because of your experiences ..realise that your father has missed out on knowing the great person you are ! 60,000 plus people across the world love you man !! And more will come
Elton John and Bernie Taupin created so much magic 🥰
You are making me cry with your stories oh my god jb u break my heart
Literally just listening to Elton John. "I'm Still Standing".
But this is even better!
I'm so sorry brother. That had to be hard. My dad died when I was 8 and my mom simply went off the chain.
My favourite Elton song is Nikita, not really an Elton fan but that one gets me
He has soooo many amazing songs like this! Someone Saved my Life Tonight, Rocketman, Tiny Dancer, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Mona Lisa and Madhatters
One of his most beautiful, touching songs. Man I grew up with the best music!
Ur a good man JB ..need more like u in this crazy world..love ur reaction..peace n love..🙏🏻❤️
JB, thanks man. You strike me as a great person. Peace and love my friend!
Be blessed.
It’s so hard because the I’m sorry is more for the one giving it that the one who receives it. Self reflection is never comfortable.
thanks JB for the video...i didn't have my Dad either.i gave up on looking for his love a long time ago......what a waste........much love to you brother...keep up the great work
You're a sweet young man...I feel like you give us pieces of your story with each video. I look forward to you as much as the music. I'm your fan!
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST REACTION VIDEO EVER. BECAUSE ITS TOTALLY REAL. HOW YOU HELD IT TOGETHER I DON'T KNOW. BUT THAT'S WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT PERSON
This commentary was both heartbreaking and healing.
I wish for you to have lots of love in your life.
Beautiful song. 💕
Talking about writing those letters to your father....🥺🥺🥺 WOW. Thanks for sharing that with us. Just know how many people adore you!!
The interview idea is great! I'd love to hear those conversations.
Hey, JB... I'm Canadian so it's a normal part of living to say "I'm Sorry" and mean it. Those are the 2 words that usually start the healing process.
That and we lose our rights in the lineup at Tim's if we don't say I'm sorry. But you are bang on Karl.
The last of his great songs of the 1970’s and Elton’s best songs by far!
That last high note always gets me. I'm so sorry James that your dad hurt you.
INSTANT FAN!!! There's no playing to the camera here, it's immediately obvious that you're a beautiful human being, With excellent taste in music.
Music is the great equalizer-touches so many of us and our experiences. Your story was heartbreaking, I hope you understand now that your father “not wanting you” was never about you at all. 🤗 hugs
You have touched the souls of 61.2K people!!! You loved by many!
You have a heavenly soul!
Love you James. I'm sorry for your pain. I believe God has a purpose for your life. Hang on my friend.
Love that idea of you interviewing.. I collect musicians autographs... that's my new obsession..
Cannot wait for you to react to more Elton, my favourite ever artist, i hope this is the start of a wonderful journey for you man!
I don't know you mate, but you are loved, respected and remember you are you and the world is better for it.
I love your honesty
The beauty of lyrics like this is you can change the meaning to suit you. It doesn't matter what Bernie Taupin (Elton John's lyricist) had in mind, his words are now yours.
Shared with Sir Elton on twitter. Hope he sees this!
Oh wow hopefully he does
