I love my Five year! Next year is my fifth year. There are blank days, but as the years go on, I get better and better at it, so no matter how many blanks you have, don’t give up on it! In five years, you’ll have a masterpiece.
The blanks tell a story too. There is no need to get upset with blank days. I would like a Hobo 5 year in A5. But the $$$. Maybe when my Leuchtturm1917 is done.
The blanks got too much and it saying a loud story about my inconsistency more than anything, now I just scroll my phone gallery to the years before and fill it when I can find the time each day. 😂
I’m starting my second 5-year next year! I agree with the blanks. 2024 has been rough, so I definitely fell off on keeping up with it, but I’m ok with that cuz that in of itself tells me what was going on
Five-year sounds daunting at the beginning but it starts to get really fun from the second year on!There were events I forgot from 2023. I saw them while writing the 2024 entry and started to pick up bits of memories. It is lots of fun. I'm currently on my second year and I've been repurposing the blank space left from 2023 by combining them with this year's space. I don't like to leave them blank, so I just use them with the 2024 block. When seeing an entry taking up last year's space, I know I've left the previous block blank.
I seriously would love to commit to a 5 year for memory keeping. I will be turning 55 within the next month, and really want to record the next five years leading up to the big "60". Still considering and glad to see that you are starting this practice while you're young. You will cherish that journal in the future.
Initially I'm just gonna continue with A5 Cousin like previous years. Then I saw the fox on a bicycle carrying the moon cover on a HON. So for 2025, I'm rocking Hiroko Kubota's A5 HON.
Thank you for showing the 5 year diary. I am trying to condense a lot of bulk for journaling or future planning. I will probably look into an A6. Hopefully I will be motivated.
Yes! I purchased the Have a Nice Day a5 last year, also in almond. I use on my morning pages journal. I figured the Have a Nice Day is appropriate for it's use. Enjoy!
Excited to follow you on your 5 year journal journey! I considered it for this year but decided it was too much to add to my plate. I am planning on doing the 5 year starting in 26. I did buy a Hobonichi notebook again this year, the special cover with the cats on it because I right now have a whole lot of cats in my life. 🐈⬛ Switching from the Cousin to the Wonderland 222 for 2025. It will be a bit of a change but I'm looking forward to having months and weeks together and some undated pages in the back. I got the core because I haven't been using all the dated day pages. Also staying with a Weeks, but the Mega in that lovely chili red. This way I won't miss the Hobonichi-ness too much 😊. You've inspired me to get a new pencil board! Fun post.
I’m so glad that you bought the covers you wanted. It’s important not to overbuy but it’s also important not to restrict oneself because of social pressure!! I’m from Chile (Santiago) and this was my first year buying a hobonichi (the Hon) and i was so judged because the price was too much for chilean standards but, as you said, it’s my adult money and I can do with it whatever I want. Long story short, I think that it’s one of my best purchases ever. It has helped me so much with anxiety and overthinking, and I won’t put a price on my mental health. Definitely buying a Hon for next year!
I’m happy that you got the covers! Especially the elephant cover! That’s exactly how I feel about the Yumi Kitagishi collections. They just speak to my soul. And every time I look at her artwork it makes me smile.
I was also yes, no, yes, no about the lights A5 pencil board. I also caved and got it (FOMO!!) I thought I wouldn’t like the back, which was what was holding me back. In 2023 I read The Phone Box at the Edge of the World by Laura Imai Messina, such a moving Japan-based story, based on real life event. This pencil board takes me back to the book so I got it. I borrowed it on kindle but think I might get the paperback. I love your videos so I stayed to the end. This year changing my cover for my journal mid-year helped me to stay consistent with the refresh I felt with a new cover, I have also been using the Cousin Avec but I am moving to 2 original books for journaling - 1 for work feelings and learnings (I work in Mental Health) 1 for personal journaling. I used the A6 weekly insert for work planning and scheduling but will try my TC Train in Paassport size - sizing down with many more books, using a Weeks as health tracker. So, as to your change of mind on additional cover purchases, - You deserve it if it serves you and doesn’t hurt you. Varsha 😊
I picked up a Weeks for my daily micro happiness journal. I've been debating a 5 year journal for years, but you may have convinced me. I dunno. I need to sit with it a little more.
I've used the page keeper in other notebooks without covers, both for keeping the page and keeping the book closed. I just stuck the pocket sticker that comes with the weeks in the back and put the page keeper in that.
Yes, the notebooks are great for journaling. I have been doing the same. I love the flexibility they give me. And the 5 year journal can be very nostalgic as you revisit your memories ❤
I'm continuing in the Hobonichi weeks (cherries), I'll be on year 2 of the A6 5 year. I'm also down sizing from a Cousin to the A6 for journaling. I soso grabbed the weekly supplement for throwing in my bag. I msu have purchased quite a few covers too. But A6 is a new size for me (dabbled in 2021 but didn't stick) 😬
Hey sister just found your channel today and you make me feel happy and relaxed. I am dealing with a new medical condition and so have been very stressed. So thank you for that❤. As for the covers I so so understand that I ordered the A6 and not the cousin. So when I went back to order the correct planner I had to get 2 planner covers. Do I need them no but love them and needed them for my mental health. Again thank you for your hard work on your channel and being a wonderful person.
If there were Planner Police, I'd have been locked up with key melted down by now with all the planner purchases I've made, so absolutely no judgment here; it's a wonderful feeling to look at something and feel comforted and WORTH THE PRICE. I also tried smaller planners and have the city lights cover in A6, it is such a beautiful view and comforts me, but alas, I don't use it because that size is just too small - I like your description of "hand-feel" it fits perfectly with how I feel about it as well. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching videos - THANK YOU for your hard work, it is appreciated in my world 😉😊☺ Good luck with your five-year journal as well! I have journaled for over 30 years, so let me just say this: USE archival ink! I have journals that are very hard to read and need a magnifier with bright light because the ink has faded so much and disappeared entirely in some spots. 😉
I only got a few things from the 1101 store this year: my A6 Original in English, the Weekly Supplement, and four pencil boards - two A6 and two A5, both from the same two lineups: Unsodo and Denali at Midnight. I'm very happy that I've pared things back to what I know I will use, plus a few little things I will enjoy looking at. I won't be getting any new covers this year, or for the foreseeable future, since I have several I can swap out whenever I want to. Thanks for the video! I hope you enjoy the A5 5-year techo. I would love to hear your thoughts about the feel of the red leather cover. I looked at that, but I couldn't tell from photos whether the leather is hard or soft, or whether it will patina at all. I ended up getting the natural leather one when I purchased a 5-year techo a few years ago. Alas, I failed to use the 5-year techo, but I do still have the cover.
I love my Hobonichi 5-year. I started using it this year as a dream journal, so not every day has an entry-it depends on whether I dream or remember my dream-but it's been the best vehicle for that purpose I have found. I hope you love it too!
You made great choices! On topic: One CA seasonal change that can offer daily joys is bird watching. We have both a seed feeder and a hummingbird feeder, and we see a lot of great birds (different ones in different seasons). On topic 2: This is maybe my fourth Hobonichi year and I still haven't found my planner. This year I'm trying the A6 avec, but I also bought an A5 gingham hon, and a lemon water mega weeks, in case I feel like changing during the year. 😂 I always used to make my own planners, and they resembled the A5 five-year planner, with a horizontal week on the left and a blank page for drawing on the right (of course, mine had Saturdays and Sundays). I know this is the set-up for the Hobonichi weeks, but the size and the color paper puts me off. I am tempted to get the A5 five-year, just disregard the years, and use it for weeks (then it would last several years -- it was the same in the planners I made: they had enough pages to last for three years). Off topic: My daughters and I are in Orange County, near my mom, and we're looking to move to LA. Do you have any opinions on yes/no neighborhoods? (I had that pencil board in my cart, but took it out after the crashes, and kinda regret it 🤔) --Anyway, tl;dr, thanks for the lovely video!
Lol, I thought the same exact thing about the “LA skyline” pencil board!! (former NorCal Bay Area resident…miss you Cal!!) I found out about pencil boards over the last year or two, and when I first heard about them, I didn’t see the purpose unless you were using Sharpies or something that were going to bleed through. I got my first Hobonichi last year (Cousin…switched to SI for this year, don’t like all the busy/colors/quotes) and got a pencil board because I press down really hard, and I thought that thin paper would be a disaster if I didn’t. Wow!!! I love it so much!!! I keep something to use as a pencil board near anything I’m going to write on. Goodbye cramping hands and paper pads that 10 sheets later someone could pencil rub and see what I wrote, lol. I felt like being creative with the A6 I got and am making my own. (P.S. I hope your 5 year is not the bad batch.) I was very tempted by the 5 year in that gift box, that was so incredibly beautiful…but…I chose my A5 this year as the SI Common Planner because I felt guilty if I didn’t use every single dated page in the Cousin…I can’t imagine that with the 5 year, lol. Your 5 year cover is beautiful. If they had had the elephant cover in A6 (I have a cover for my A5) I would have gotten it. It gives me the same warm fuzzies….it’s still in stock….ummm….
I have the leuchturm 5 year and I love it. I haven't missed a day in 3.5 years and I love looking back on the day to see where I was in previous years.
This is my 2nd time buying from Hobonichi. For 2025 I got 2 planners weeks planner & A6 Planner. 1 for work A6 for Home Cozy Journaling. This, crazy Website crash was wild. I was up at 9pm, and surprise my sister whom was laughing at me about me going wild an excited about the lauch wanted one too, that night. We'll, I had to go to Jetpens. So we both were able to get the covers we wanted. ❤❤🎉 love your input at the end of your video.🤭🎉
This year about the same as every year except I decided to add an A5 Hon for work instead of the A6 Techo. I have my two weeks one for every day stuff, the other for health tracking. The cousin for bills and journaling. The A6 5 year journal this will be my 3rd year in 2025. I did get two new covers in a5 and the search and collect a6 for my 5 year
Got most of them🥰, same as last year; including the 25-29 so exited about this one too. You're going to love those notebooks for free things or side projects, they will make you want more, like the Rhodias ones the paper feels creamier. Couple of travelers covers for other personal projects and of course traveling. I found out about Kinbor ones and the quality is really good, the prices super cheap like $3 for a weeks mega. Apart from all analog PMing and note taking I use Atlassian (Jira & Confluence) because my Notion was getting slower in loading the amount of content just for one task. But for day to day i love analog, it feels like is faster, cousier... Anyway.. I'll probably start to post on my Instagram, had not much time last year so this year feels more organized 😅 Love the new covers and inserts you got. The green ruler squares don't fit the weeks squares btw, and the yellow one is really good for the Jibun techo. 👋
I’m getting my first 5 year as I will be turning 30 next year…. I also have the pomegranate leather weeks set aside as my events/adulting/media diary, joyful moments, observations, etc, the cousin for goal tracking, planning and memory keeping, and the calendar - which will strictly be for timekeeping at work.
I'm so jealous you have the yes/no pencil board because Hobonichi isn't going to re-stock it. I tried to get it, but they ran out. Lucky you! But I'm happy I got everything else I wanted. Happy Hobonichi'ng.
I decided to go with the A6. In contrast to many, I love being in a small notebook and also the portability of the A6. I also decided to go with a Spring start to avoid the rush and also see what other things launch at that time. Like you I'm also wanting to notice the seasons and I will enjoy starting a new planner in Spring.
I get it with the elephant cover. In the spring release the same artist had another a5 cover that screamed my name so I got it and I use it with other a5 notebooks.
I bought the Have a Nice Day almond cover this year too! Also I got an A6 Five Year, but I'm crushed because the paper quality is terrible (fountain pens feather and bleed right through, most gel pens bleed completely through). Looks like it's a common problem with the five years this year, so I'm trying to figure out what pens I can actually use in it. 😭 I hope your paper quality is their usual good quality!
Oh no... I'm planning to start my 5-year with hobonichi this year, too, and now I'm mostly using fountain pen. 😢 Is the problem randomly spread through the A5 and A6 or was it mostly in A6?
@@phoebeyuu4525 It seems like the problem is mostly with the five years in both A6 and A5, but some folks are even having problems with other Hobonichi planners. I'm sorry 😭
😅 I only bought Alettone covers for weeks and A5 and the document case. In 2025 I will be using the Nolty A5 and Kinbor Weeks (shop through my stash) using A6 Stalogy for work log that I had in my stash for 2 years because something interesting always comes up. Still waiting on the Take a Note B6 and Memorist layered monthly for my 6 ring binder (mid October). 😊 Oh yes I discovered a forgotten A5 hobonichi cover from 2018 that was green and littered with pictures of people having a picnic. 😊
If you want to track the seasons in LA you might want to look at Liza Dalby’s East Wind Melts the Ice. She takes the Japanese seasonal calendar based on the Chinese solar terms, and observes them as they relate to her garden in California. LA seasons may be a bit different and lacking in the wildness of other regions, but I hope you’ll find a kinship with this beautiful book. I also prefer plain graphs to Techos and I have that plant book and the folders too. Keiko Shibata’s work is wonderful! I also fell for the allure of the pencil boards and covers this year despite swearing I wouldn’t. Thanks for this wonderful (and validating) video 😊
I hav a6 five years start 2024.... But i hav a little regret, coz the space for each year is sooo tiny...oh my, ur video make me recomsidering to buy 5years in A5 and yeah the cover made me fall in love with it.
I love it! I have the red leather during autumn/winter season and the undyed during spring/summer 😅 I have an A6 though. I think the Hiroko Kubota pencil board is lovely now during autumn ❤
Lovely haul. I got the elephant cover too because I love elephants, its pink , and its soooo prettyyy. I love the colours and the way it is. I am happy I got that one. If interested I have an unboxing on my channel ❤❤
I'd decided on the Take a Note and Sterilng Ink N2 for work and personal planners this year...but...BUT...the toy snake Hon...then the Penco Bag...and a few other things got me today. That's all I'll say. 🤣
It crashes every year! It happened in 2022 and 2023. This year I had to order one part from Jetpens, and then, another one through Amazon at midnight EST to get what I wanted because my most wanted ones were sold out by the time the website had stopped crashing. This was going to be my last Hobonichi buy for a while. 😊
Ha ha don't worry about us, lolol, we are just like you!!! You know, if it were reversed, and I was talking to you (vs. you talking to us via youtube), you'd be hearing 1000x over, for example from me, "I know I said I wasn't going to get this but.....". 😂🤗📘📘📘📘
I thought a five year one a day journal was fun until I got cancer. I'm still keeping it up, but I'm not sure knowing exactly how my cancer treatments were going is useful.
Have you done a pen test in the five year yet? I’ve heard a lot of bad things about the paper this year, and it’s my first time using Hobonichi so I’m a bit worried. I’m wondering if I should return mine or not 😅😅😅

I love that you bought yourself those covers ❤
No judgment at all :) love the covers you got 😊
I'm sorry 😭
FYI the yes no pencil board is by illustrator Shinsuke Yoshitake.
elephants are my favorite animal too!! 🐘
Link to buy the hobonichi?
It crashes every year! It happened in 2022 and 2023. This year I had to order one part from Jetpens, and then, another one through Amazon at midnight EST to get what I wanted because my most wanted ones were sold out by the time the website had stopped crashing. This was going to be my last Hobonichi buy for a while. 😊
"The gasp I gusped" 😂
What material is the pencil board made of?
Trying 5 yr A6. Need pointers lol
Ha ha don't worry about us, lolol, we are just like you!!! You know, if it were reversed, and I was talking to you (vs. you talking to us via youtube), you'd be hearing 1000x over, for example from me, "I know I said I wasn't going to get this but.....". 😂🤗📘📘📘📘
Well that was quite the 360 from the last video!
180 rather?
@@catalinacroitoru7258 I was told there would be no math. 😂
Some people are saying there was bad paper in the five years this year. Can you do a pen test to show if it’s ok or not?
I thought a five year one a day journal was fun until I got cancer. I'm still keeping it up, but I'm not sure knowing exactly how my cancer treatments were going is useful.
Wish the otter life was available for Android 😢 it's so cute
Have you done a pen test in the five year yet? I’ve heard a lot of bad things about the paper this year, and it’s my first time using Hobonichi so I’m a bit worried. I’m wondering if I should return mine or not 😅😅😅
So…what will you be using at your main planner for 2025???
