I get how stressful it is to decide between two schools. I was deciding between university of Maryland and Lehigh, two very different schools and different atmospheres. Deep down i knew i belonged more at maryland but i would cry and wrack my brain for the answer of where i would be happier. Two very different pathways i could have taken. But in that moment of deciding, i had to abandon all reasoning and just listen to my gut instinct (very much Malcolm Gladwell decision making style. ) sometimes you just know and it doesnt make sense and even with all the logic and research, the most reliable source is your intuition
You’re literally academic goals ❤️ so far I’ve been an average student, but I know that I could be so much better! This motivates me to grind these last two years of high school that I have, so thank you😊

Don't overdo or overwork. Be yourself, take care of yourself and try to be the best version of yourself every day. Worry about your grades but don't let that consume you, grades aren't everything. Work hard and smart and get out of your comfort zone as much as you can It's ok If sometimes you feel overwhelmed and crestfallen. Don't be afraid of asking for help and surround yourself with the best people 😁. I hope It helps you.
Two things: 1. Your in elementary school. Learning stuff matters a million times more than grades. And the best way to learn stuff is by falling in love with it. Whether for you that's writing, or math, or programming, doesn't matter. But try to have fun learning stuff outside of school 2. You aren't going to college for 8 years. There is almost no way that as a 5th grader you can know what school you will be best for you. Keep an open mind. As a senior you might want to go to another school more. I am actually going to go to Harvard next year, and while I think it will be a good fit for me, it wasn't my top choice; if you assume it will be yours now and you don't let yourself change your mind, you might try really hard to get into Harvard when in reality another school was a much better fit. I'm a Finnish 8th grader (14 year old), we go to school when we are 7 years old. My dream is to study at Harvard. After I finish 9th grade, I'm planning to go into an IB school and change my study language from Finnish to English. I'm not sure if I should tho, because the only Harvard student I know from my country went into the same school I will, but didn't go on the IB side. Some of my grades fell from 10's to 9's this year, which would be from A's and B's in the American school system. This is because I got depression when I had to leave my city and friends, when moving into another city. All I think now is Harvard and how to get in. I'm just not sure if the best possibility comes from IB or the Finnish education system. I know that our school system is said to be arguably the best in the world but I'm still really stressed out. I still have one year to get my straight A's from lower secondary before the IB, my first language is Finnish, second English, and I also speak Swedish and Spanish. I also don't know if I'll study in Oxbridge or Ivy League, but now everything is pointing to the last one. Any advice? Also, will my nationality play a part, since not many Finnish people have studied there.
Hey ! I applied to american schools this year from France (I'm in an international program similar to the IB), I didn't get into Harvard but I got into Columbia, UPenn and Brown :) Soooo my advice, if you feel like you could get straight As in the IB with a better mental health, then you should do it. To get into those prestigious schools, you have to always take the most challenging classes in which you are capable of getting the best grades. But if you feel like too much work will impact your grades and your mental health, don't do it. Great results and extracurriculars without the IB is better for your application (and for yourself) than failing the program. Also think about what you are interested in. Harvard wants you to pursue your passions. If you don't take the IB but rather invest that time in something else that matters to you, you'll be just fine. Also don't narrow your choice down to a single college. I love all the schools I applied to, and I wouldn't be able to choose between so many different opportunities if I hadn't opened up to the unkown during the application process. I'm here if you want any advice about applying to college in the US or even the UK (I applied to Cambridge and the LSE, and got into the LSE for 2 different programs) good luck :)

I was in the L section in a french high school (I'm currently in terminale), I was also in the american OIB program (option internationale du baccalauréat), so I had "challenging" lit and history classes in english. I took latin and cinema as options and advanced italian as my "spécialité" this year. To apply to ivies you kind of need the SATs, even as an international student. So I took them (in senior year, my god don't do that, soooo stressful). I got a perfect score in english but my maths sucked xD It's okay though because it was explained in my application that in the french curriculum I hadn't done maths in 2 years and had to study alone for the test (I think it cost me Harvard, but I still ended up with 3 ivies so you'll be okay if you are in my situation). I also took the SAT subject tests in literature and world history. I was preparing for the bac exam (before it got canceled by the pandemic lol). I applied to Harvard, Columbia, UPenn and Brown in the US, but also to Cambridge and the LSE in the UK (through UCAS). I applied to "prépas" and other unis in France (through Parcoursup), so I'm still waiting to hear from that. I don't know where you live but I would strongly recommend applying to college in your home country or anywhere cheaper than the US, because you don't want to count on ideal financial aid to be sure to attend university. As an international student, I feel like it is very hard to get enough financial aid.
