Lyrics:
Could you whisper in my ear
The things you wanna feel
I'd give you anythin'
To feel it comin'
Do you wake up on your own
And wonder where you are?
You live with all your faults
I wanna wake up where you are
I won't say anything at all
So why don't you slide
Yeah, I'm gonna let it slide
Don't you love the life you killed?
The priest is on the phone
Your father hit the wall
Your ma disowned you
Don't supposed I'll ever know
What it means to be a man
It's somethin' I can't change
I'll live around it
I wanna wake up where you are
I won't say anything at all
So why don't you slide
Ooh, slide
And I'll do anythin' you ever dreamed to be complete
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall
Oh, May
Put your arms around me
What you feel is what you are
And what you are is beautiful
Oh, May
Do you wanna get married Or run away?
And I'll do anythin' you ever dreamed to be complete
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall
Oh, May
Put your arms around me
What you feel is what you are
And what you are is beautiful
Oh, May
Do you wanna get married
Or run away?
I wanna wake up where you are
I won't say anything
And I'll do anythin' you ever dreamed to be complete
(Yeah, slide)
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall
(yeah slide)
And I'll do anythin' you ever dreamed to be complete
(Yeah slide)
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall
(Oh, oh slide)
Yeah, slide between the sheets of all them beds you never knew
(Yeah slide)
Why don't you slide into my room
Just slide into my room
Oh, we'll run away, run away, run away

I married my high school sweetheart in the early 80’s ! She was pregnant with our first child. My future in-laws didn’t think we would make it. Just like everyone else. 38 years later , I’m still with my sweetheart and wouldn’t change anything. 2 children and 4 grandchildren later. Life is awesome!!!
This is dreams.
Congratulations, my sweetheart and I were marred in 1984 and she too was pregnant and we’re still married with kids that gave us grandkids . Life is good because God is good.
Gee, that was back in the day when the world still believed in marriage. Wish they still did.
Indeed
Good for you both! That's awesome. I can't say the same for me unfortunately, but when both people want to make it work it will. Relationships can't be one-sided. Best wishes for the future!
If I could stay stuck in a decade, I would forever live in the 90s. I’m so nostalgic it hurts and this song just transforms me back to those simpler times!. What a great time to be alive.
Yep there was just enough technology and the Television music was awesome
I feel the exact same way you know, when you listen to a 90s song and feel all the feels down to your bones, and relive moments from that decade and just wish you could live them over and over again forever...
I know being a 90s kid ppl just don't understand how good it really was
Yeah I know that feeling. certain bands and songs really get me. Smashing Pumpkins in particular.
😉
Anybody else feel like people were a lot more chill back in the 90’s?
Spot on. The 90's were the best years for me.
And the 60's, 70's and 80's...Goo Goo Dolls are awesome. They don't write em' like that anymore.
Absolutely. We know how to agree to disagree.
Without a doubt. No social media, smartphones, none of that stuff......just people connecting with others through music, experiences, and just living in the moment.
@@ingothitrust5248we didn’t need social media, we had the good old portable radios instead.
That bridge where he says you wanna get married and runaway. Gives me goosebumps to the core.
This is definitely one of the best pop-rock songs of this century!
For me it is the line...I want to wake up where you are!
You got that
"You wanna get married
*OR*
run away?"
Always!!! That's always gotten me, too!
When I was a little kid goo goo dolls songs would always make me feel in love with a person I hadn’t even met
Hey this happens to me too
that's so totally true
Well said, rawchacho
I feel it too
Hahaha! Exactly. 😅 I've had quite a few imaginary boyfriends back in the day. Haha!
I'm so nostalgic for the 90's it hurts.
It was a great time to be alive
It was a special time to grow up
Yes. It hurts a lot. I treasure the 90's. The best decade of my life and the last great decade of the world.
Why Don't You Slide?
Songs like this, from HS, are bittersweet.
The feeling they evoke is so real, so vivid, I swear if I open my eyes I'll be back in my 17 year old body, and the past 20 will be as a dream.
One of the most nostalgic songs ever written. Whenever I hear this song, I'm instantly transported back to the 90s. What a great decade that was.
It truly is
Couldn’t agree more
Same ✌
Anyone else watching this in 2024?👋
Right here gang🔥💯

You know it
On Schedule for the 2024 Traverse City, MI Cherry Festival !
Yep
"Put your arms around me, what you feel is what you are, what you are, is beautiful"... Fav line from song.
That's everyone's favourite line.
I'd be honored if some 90s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of ARMS OF AN ANGEL by Sarah McLachlan, NAME by the GooGoo Dolls, and BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY by the Verve on my channel in tribute to the era. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace out.
Troll Em. Mine too!
👍
Mine Too
No band takes me back on a 90’s nostalgia trip like these guys. I didn’t know it at the time but when these songs were filling the airwaves in the 90s, they were some of the best days of my life.
Yep this band and Matchbox 20 for me.
Yup, if we only knew those were The Good Old Days maybe we’d have paid more attention
I took my high school gf to this concert. Amazing. Tonic was with them. She and I had different paths but I hope she's happy today.
@@petew4779 In 1999?! I went to that tour at the Massachusetts date! It was called the “Music & Technology Tour” 😂
This and blink 182!
The fact that they still play this on the radio makes me so happy 😊
Hello, how are you doing? It’s nice meeting you here. Thanks for your love and support❤️🤘🏻you have yourself a wonderful day ahead🌺🌺❤️🤘🏻
I heard it at Starbucks when I was working and got nostalgic.
This intro will never get old. Ever. Those string are always hittin in their music!!!
that little guitar lick that kicks in at 0:25 is so good
And the ending is great too
@@caifabe8050that lick is also a SLIDE between two chords. It's so smart. I swear this band is something else
@@vav413 this song is also in general just super deceptively difficult to play lmao, ive tried.
90's music was not of my generation, but in my opinion it was the best in terms of lyrics and melody. My opinion as a 60 year old dad.
Well, the lead singer of the goo goo dolls is 55. So you’re 60, that’s not that far off. You’d have been like 30 in the 90s. Still a time to enjoy and love and relate to the music no matter what your age! Just ignore labels like “generations” because I know 60 year olds who love modern music and I know 15 year olds who love 60s music.
80s was best but 90s had some hits aswell
We, the children of the 90's, welcome you!
Mine as well, as a 60 year old woman (but really 39 😁)
I had the CD, so awesome
It’s 2020 now & I’m still dreaming about growing up in the 90s 😭
Edit: 2021 anyone? Life needs to slow down.
Fucked up huh. Getting old sux
Doldoe doldoe hell yeah haha. Time is FLYING. Kinda bittersweet.
@@jami1730 yup. Like my poor old mama says, the older you get , the faster times flies. Ugggg

@@jami1730 hell yeah bae, Let's party like it's 1999!
Goo goo dolls bridged the gap between country/folk and alternative rock /hard rock more than any other band I can remember and this song is no exception. What a fantastic band
Yeah I can see that
Yess you said it so perfectly. 🥹❤️🔥
Blues traveler
And the Gin Blossoms maybe
I think Matchbox Twenty was somewhere along those lines on their first album as well
Yes, It's 2023 and this Song is still a Masterpiece ❤️ It's like Nostalgia feelings listening to the Goo Goo Dolls. I miss the good old days. These songs are beautiful and they make you feel better when you're listening to them. I just want to slide back to the past before all of this nonsense 😔
Very right
Yes, this song and Iris always make me cry. My 28 year old daughter loves this music, too. She always tells me she knows all the good music because of me. Let's me know how crappy most of the new stuff is.
Miss the 90’s so much. I remember my dad jamming out to this early in the morning as he drove me to school. Scent of coffee every where. Missing that crisp, cool, Texas Autumn weather so much.
Your dad sounds like a awesome cool person. And your childhood sounds magical. I'm a 90s kid too
Sounds like you had a good childhood, don't forget to visit your old man often.
Peace...
Isn’t it amazing that I have the same memories as a kid, only from the east coast.. music really can and does transcend time and space
@@dannydukes1505 what was it like being a kid in the east coast during the 90s? I was a kid during the the 90s at the west coast (California )
Thank you guys so much for your responses! Cant explain the feeling but its a sudden time warp when this song plays. Growing up with all your siblings, seeing your cousins on the weekends and not a care in the world. The first few seconds of the song and the last part always reminds me of October and November. Elementary school was a huge part of my life as funny as it sounds. Miss it
Rainy day trips to the coast. Watching the rain drops race down the window because I was too little to look out. The 90's was a special time.
Hey it's you or maybe 🤔?

lol dude i used to do the same thing with this song and with one headlight of the wallflowers, by that time i did not know nothing about english but the song itself gave me some melancholic vibes.

Last week my best friend died. This was our Jam! She was the best sister I never had. I will never listen to this song the same we did before. I miss you, Ivy. I love you!

When this album came out, I was 16 and just had a complete spinal fusion. It was the most difficult time of my life. These guys helped me through those hard months of recovery. Listening to it now is bittersweet.

Goo Goo Dolls never get old! I was fortunate to see them in Winnipeg, Canada. They are in my top 3 list of bands. I have all the CDs too.
I also play Name and Slide as covers within my sets even though I typically play originals. I don't have enough guitars to accommodate all the various tunings used and that is why I can only realistically perform 2 of their covers. BTW, I am one who has a strict limit on number of covers I played at shows. John is a master at creating various tunings. Tim Pierce played on the song Iris because he liked the tape demo. Fabulous group!
These guys STILL ROCK. Incredible show at Dayton OH this week. Saw them in 98 at Purdue with No Doubt and Bush....what a great era of music.
That’s pretty cool. Go boilers!
I saw bush and no doubt at the Santa Barbara bowl in 96! God how I miss those simpler times!
I'm from Dayton and currently live there. Love seeing random mentions of Dayton haha
I saw bush at 16 years old at werchter festival in belgium litlle drunk and sun going down .memories😊
There's something magical about this song. 20 years ago I would drive in my old beater, listening to the rock radio station and hope this song would come on. 10 years later I let it drop to this girl I was dating that I loved Slide and it was one of my all time favorite songs. She was younger than me and grew up more in the 2000's, but she gave me a weird look and asked me if I was serious. Turned out she loves this song too. 8 years married and now we listen to it together!
❤️❤️❤️
I think this is my favorite UA-cam love story comment ever.
That's so lovely! 🥰
Awesome
This song is literally about teen pregnancy 😂
Can we talk about how all the guitars work together to MAKE this song what it is? Magic.

I’ve found recently, that going on long walks late in the day, on a nice beautiful day while listening to the Goo Goo Dolls is good for the soul.
It’s especially good if you live by water. I live on a river/lake. It feels amazing...100% recommend it.
This will just be hard to do, working a full time office job 😅. But it sounds perfect...

god i really miss the mid-late 90s and early 2000s. The happiest times of my life. I was somewhat happy which is the happiest I have ever been in my life. life now just sucks.
Brian, you love life, you love everything! First off you are not Brian that is an entity given to you by your parents from the day you were born, you are not Brian, you are a Beautiful Soul waiting to fly free of the shackles placed upon us by the beast that is the system... The system lies to us... don't trust the system, it's not our friend, get away from the system as much as possible.. and be you, which is not Brian.. You are much much more.. Find you, go into a forest tomorrow, by yourself, no phone no technology no people... and walk around until you feel anything, then continue doing that, Daily. Go to the Beaches, put your feet in the water, our beaches are filled with beautiful negative ions our bodies need to feed our mind, and allow our mind not to shackle our true self, which is the formless non identified self.. Love you kind spirit!
@ Brian I totally get where you're coming from. I recently went through something similar. Make it better!! Fight through!!
Jeez bro, is your name Debbie?
Same. Wish I could go back.

It doesn't matter how you feel about the Goo Goo Dolls, this song is an example of what "perfect song" sounds like
If someone feels different from what they're suppose to feel about goo goo dolls, they should immediately see a shrink. 😊
Grew up in the 90's but not living in the past guy I'm 33 and am excited for my future. Forget the 90's embrace the here and now their is always something positive in every situation.
You were born in the 90s. Grew up in the 00s. I was born in 81. I grew up in the 90s. And I miss it so much I can feel it
That opening riff is still anointed. Gives me chills. For the record, I do not yearn for the past. I do not want to go backwards. I don't buy the lie that the past is better and everything was wonderful in the world back then. Enjoying the present. Appreciative for the past. Excited for the future.
Now that’s the mindset
One of the realest comments I've ever read...
You are deluded, look around, look what happened with the plandemic, now the climate hoax, the proxy wars, the increasing tyranny of governments/corporations, heck nptice how people are becoming sterile, autism and alzheimer increasing, lgtb perversion and chaos, cancer everywhere due to contamination and experiments. As a christian I also have the duty to give people hope, but NOT on things of this world or the state of it. So I'm gonna put it bluntly for you: Buckle your beld, Dorothy, we are living the END TIMES

I've always appreciated songs with a deeper meaning. for some its just an upbeat tune that means nothing, for others it makes you live another life for a couple of minutes.

If everybody's alarm clock could wake them up to this song each day the world would be a happier place
best comment I read!, hailing from NYC I basically woke up to this song listening to Z100
Considering the song is about abortion, I disagree.
Was thinking the exact same thing, doesn't get much happier than this song.
I thought it was about running away and getting married
Never mind I looked it up and this is what it said, Rzeznik explained that the song refers to a teenage girl in a strict Catholic environment who has become pregnant. She and her boyfriend are debating as to the possibility of abortion or marriage. And I hope they choose marriage over killing an innocent baby.
Every Goo Goo doll song makes you feel something..most of the time its profound...depending on how you perceive it...it always clicks a chord in me...great band.elite in my book always.

Wambui Wachira I owe a lot of thanks to Johnny, my Brother went to High School with Johnny, my brother started drinking in 8th grade, Johnny helped him get of the Booze. Didnt help we were an IRISH Family. We were 70s kids. My brother went to those 70s concerts at Bills Stadium. If you dont know Buffalo had 10 years of concerts 4 every summer at Bills Stadium. He was a law breaker drinking beer at 16 in Bills Parking lots. Those concerts were crazy because of very little Security. It was cool almost every band opened saying ( HELLO BUFFALO ) Rolling Stones liked us played here 6 times. It was cool seeing those 70s girls having the hots for those Long Hair Rock Stars. Those 80s Bills games were just as bad as those concerts. No wonder Bills fans are crazy they party 4 hours before the game. I heard they stopped the Concerts because the Football field was getting beat up. They really did get big bands, Aerosmith, Bob Seger, Alice Cooper, Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Rush, Allman Brothers, Country Singer Alan Jackson. Glad none of us kids were born with that Red Hair. Us kids were worried about our Freckles on our face, in grade school, A teacher said she give me 1 dollar if I could count how many Freckles were on my face. It did suck for me I was only 5'6" Tall. Ill admit us IRISH are Different born with Red Hair & Freckles. Us IRISH do need to be carefull in the sun our skin burns easily. Why am I talking about 70s concerts they were 35 years ago. I really was afraid at those concerts cause I was so small. Afraid of getting in fights. Those concerts were nuts people throwing beer bottals at the stage, people so drunk even loud music didnt wake them up 1 concert we had to wait 2 hours some band wanted to play when it got dark outside, those concerts were just like Bills games parting 4 hours ahead of the show. I always liked the saying KISS ME IM IRISH. ERIN GO BRAGH means IRELAND FOREVER
Yes! I get a feeling from it also that I can't quite explain.

And what you are is beautiful
Oh, May
Do you wanna get married Or run away?
And I'll do anythin' you ever dreamed to be complete
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall
Oh, May
Put your arms around me
What you feel is what you are
And what you are is beautiful
Oh, May
Do you wanna get married
Or run away?
I wanna wake up where you are
I won't say anything
And I'll do anythin' you ever dreamed to be complete
(Yeah, slide)
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall
(yeah slide)
And I'll do anythin' you ever dreamed to be complete
(Yeah slide)
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall
(Oh, oh slide)
Yeah, slide between the sheets of all them beds you never knew
(Yeah slide)
Why don't you slide into my room
Just slide into my room
Oh, we'll run away, run away, run away
Thanks for posting. This song was surreal. Many of the 90s songs were.
😑
Thanks
.
These lyrics are so unusual
This song kept playing all day long the day my dad passed away when I was 13 years old and I still listen to this song every single day and night I love this song.. and I still love goo goo dolls
Blessings
It's almost 2024, and I'm still loving this gem!
We are 2 then !
But im in 2024 !
Timeless Gem !
This song never ceases to bring me to a different world. I wish I could put it into words.
Same. I sort of grew up (spent my early 20's in the military) to this song.
A different place and time where things were pure and the future was bright and hopeful, where the world was connected yet still private, where technology was growing at a semi-reasonable pace, where playing with your friends meant climbing trees and breaking into abandoned lots, where people still loved our country regardless of politics.
you did, two years ago...if UA-cam is real.
Ditto ditto ditto x 10000000…
One of the best songs in history, from the best decade in history. This is the soundtrack for the childhood and adolescence of every kid who grew up in the 90s
I wish Johnny would have left his face alone. He was beautiful. ❤
Yeah it’s really a shame

The Goo Goo Dolls know how to write a beautiful song
The scene where he talks to her as if he was from another time or dimension for me it's something special beyonds words
The late 90's were just magical. Hell, the whole decade was wonderful.
Halloween 2023 and I can't stop listening to this song!

My fiancée went on stage at a club “open mic night” and sang this to me...This will forever be our song. RIP Mitch. Love you always ❤️
Im so sorry for your loss💗💗
@@ellaregan4307 Aw, thank you. That was sweet.
My fave line is :
"Do you wake up on your own and wonder where you are and live with all your faults?"
🤗
The guitar chords in this song are some of the best in a pop-rock song I've ever heard.
Love goo goo dolls
Still listening in 2019??❤🤘
Goo Goo Dolls fans unite 😁
@Crebs Park swell and swirlin'
MAGA !!
@Crebs Park ☹
@Crebs Park 😅
Johnny Rzeznik is the only man in the world who can pull off the anime spiky hair style.
+Matthew Carson I was thinking the same thing! He looks like Tamaki and Usui !!
martha pait Don't know why, but he always reminds me of Tidus from Final Fantasy X.
+Matthew Carson And painted fingernails?
Matthew Carson he's cloud strife!
and david beckham
This classic is more than just a song… it’s a feeling. A cool autumn night, thinking about the ones you love.. God, your life.. your dreams..
I miss this style of music along with the memories 😢 💔 the 90s was the best time to live
90's was a good times.....
This Era of music makes me cry. I don't know why. I think it just takes me to a better time.

I like how the guy is willing to give up his life so the girl can feel safe and secure. It's kinda short-sighted for sure but you can't help but see the romance in his attempt to help a girl he loves.
Damn I miss the 90's. I feel so lucky to have been raised on music like this and older stuff as well. I can't stand most of the songs on the radio etc these days. Damn that makes me sound old, even though I'm only 28 :)
High school Summer Job doing landscaping driving around a lawn mower, got my Sony Walkman with FM radio on 89x listening to this and other 90s goodies like Semisonic and Collective Soul. Now I'm older, schools way behind me and I want to listen to this while driving around my corvette. Some things change, some things stay the same.
you might want to try this but i went through the weird al albums from the 90s and made some playlists but replaced the parodies with the original songs
Challenge accepted
Ahh yes 89x dave and chuck the freak, remember there prank calls in the morning show, first time i ever heard eminem in 1998 on my way to high school was in 89x, and i lived in milan ohio, which is near cedar point!
Googoo dolls forever
Omg in 4k... it's so cool
This band has amazing energy and sound...this is a release that will be listened to and watched for years. Nothing that is too complicated - it just takes you on a ride and makes you feel good.
